- Simple and quick vegan dessert made from tapioca pearls and is great for gatherings and parties.

There are many wonderful kuih desserts in Malaysia which are sold in small stalls by the roadsides or at night markets. Some are sweet while others are savoury. One of my favorites is 'Kuih Sago', a mildly sweet 'kuih' made from tapioca pearls.
It has the consistency of jello but not as hard. The soft and chewy texture of this 'kuih' together with its mild rose flavoured taste, brightly coloured in pink and coated with shredded coconut definitely makes this 'kuih' stands out.
This is a great dessert for gatherings. If you are unable to find rose paste extract, you may substitute it with rose water or any colouring of your choice. Natural colouring can also be obtained from beetroot. It is not necessary to steam fresh shredded coconut. I did it because I was using frozen shredded coconut. Steam the desiccated coconut too, if you are using it for this recipe.

I had a few questions on the recipe.
1. Is it fine to use a different fruity flavored extract besides rose?
2. I noticed that you use fresh pandan leaves. I was wondering if frozen is fine because the asian markets I go to do not seem to have fresh pandan leaves.
3. I saw another video that you just uploaded and instead of a banana leaf, can I oil the bowl instead?
Sago? How can something so "sago" taste so delicious? :p
"Sago /ˈseɪɡoʊ/ is a starch extracted from the spongy centre, or pith, of various tropical palm stems, especially Metroxylon sagu."
beautiful like it
Should make carrot cake next
Soooo cooooll

looks good
I do not have pandan leaves in Mauritius.. ..any substitution
I will try cause I love this kind of dessert we have similar dessert called lokum it's famous in Turkey and Middle East just we used cornstarch instead of sago, although we used sago in another desserts, we called the sago "sagudana" in Arabic.
Thank you for your hard work.
Can you help with a substitute for pandan leave! Cause I can't find it here!
by the way you are so beautiful 🌹
thank you
Hi~
how long we keep the kueh for? If i decide to only coat it with shredded coconut when i serve.
This looks yummyy
yes...very yummy and very soft..
😍😍😍😍😍😍love it
May you show the packaging of rose paste extract please. Thanks 🙏🏻
now i know how close thailand and malaysia are XD in thailand that's call "sakoo" hahaha
+Jayriya J. Wow! Now we both learn something new!
I just put my kueh sago into the fridge.... How long do i keep it there?
Any replacement for pandan leave
I use pandan extract for coloring.
Hi what ìs pandan extract plse
Can i put some sugar to the coconut or just salt?
👌👌nice
Hi. I don't have any banana leaves or pandan leaves. What can I use instead ?
Besides using rose paste for this recipe, what are the alternatives we can use? As in..different flavors.
gnulmd2 Food coloring
Selalu gunakan pisau plastic ada dijual dikedai bakery khas untuk mengeluarkan kueh basah dan memotongnya rengan tidak melekat pada pisau dan tidk mncalarkn acuan kita sama ada auan kaca mahupon aluminium
looks delicious, where can I get the rose paste extract?
I am guessing that we can use rose syrup which you can buy from many Indian stores.
+Grace Ng Thanks!
+LT Chua in Asia, local supermarkets would have it at the baking section. Otherwise Asian grocers would have them in foreign countries but yes, +Grace Ng is right rose syrup works fine ;)
+Nyonya Cooking Thanks.
nice

A quick question regarding desiccated coconut does. Here where I am located this coconut comes in 2 versions sweetened and unsweetened, which would be the best to be used?
+Murphy Mukesh Alungaram unsweetened ;)
Where do you buy pandas leaf and rose paste extract in london??
Hm....Chinatown? Or Asian grocers! - Admin
How do u keep them? How long?
farhanah fauzi thank u!
Can we use brown sugar instead?..
Yes, but the taste will become more brown-sugarish, if you know what I mean ...
Nyonya Cooking thanks 😊
What is this Rose paste? How do I get it? Can i use rose water instead?
Daniel Cheong You can use food coloring as the alternative ingredient
I couldn't find rose paste, so i used rose flavouring and red colouring.
Daniel Cheong is
Would be nice if it is more concise. Straight to the point.
Are "sago" tapioca pearls?
It's like tapioca but its made from sago palm extract. A lot of people just use tapioca because it's easier to find. I'm Filipino and we use sago in our sweets too.
+purawngailocano oh I see. I don't know what is sago and so I'm just curious. It looks just like the tapioca pearls I find in Asia supermarkets in the US. Thank you for the information :)
👍👍👍👍❤❤❤❤❤
wats an alternate for pandham leaves?
You can add one teaspoon of rose water
My mom calls it in English as TOOTHLESS DELIGHT
+Murphy Mukesh Alungaram I had to laugh! Haha! So so true!

Failed.... My kueh came out too soft (can't cut because it is lumpy!) i saw other videos whereby they soak the sago then steam it, like steaming pulut for kueh salat. Your recipe calls for boiling no wonder it is watery!
Uk put the pot direct on the water it doesn’t break.

it's sa-go not sego. hehe. anyways good video!
In english, it is pronounced as Se-go dictionary.cambridge.org/pronunciation/english/sago Of course in Malay, we follow the suku kata and pronounce it as sa-go.
well it's better to pronounce words base on their origin, not base on how another country pronounces it (especially since this is a Malaysian channel) So users from other country can know about these kinds of things :)
But it seems sago is initially from Portugese. I guess that's when they came to Malacca and intro us this word.
epique wenqa aka epik Point taken! But then I made a mistake in the earlier comment cause in malay, it should be called Sagu not sago as stated on the title. 😂
hahaha true true! XD we are too rojak till we get confused..thus the life of malaysians. anyways keep making awesome vids. i love the fact its very easy to make. makes someone like me, lazy, feel like im able to cook tasty food!
It's all about the choice, to cook or not to cook. Haha!
Looks yummy..
