Just got this Nero 5 pump, it’s 100x better than my VorTech pumps. This is the best pump on the market as far as I know, insanely quiet, powerful super compact. Worth every penny. Can’t wait to get another one. 👍
Guys, remember to enable the location on your phone. I thought my pump was knackered till I realized I hadn't enabled location. It needs Bluetooth and location turned on. Sounds simple but it took me ages to work out why mine wouldn't pair with the app!
If you have a nano tank and are looking at this pump, look away and at the nero 3. It's smaller with less output and better for smaller fish and smaller tanks.
In the past we've seen videos comparing the flow pattern of powerheads, can you tell us if the flow from the AI Nero is more of a wide cone or a jetsteam suitable for longer tanks?
Good video as always. I bought 2 of these when they were released and love them. The control is simple and quick to set. As good as my 2 mp40qd in my opinion. Depending on the flow selected the 15 degree can be a bit suspect. For exqmple on a pulse i have found the head can readjust itself, no major shakes for me as i have them on the back wall.
While Vortechs have their own opportunities, having the wire outside the tank is a huge positive. Currently running 2x MP40 one on each side of my Reefer 750. Eventually planning on adding two more and placing them all on the back glass
@@AJ-bi6ns I've just personally never liked them. I can see puffers or triggerfish chewing on wires, so I get that part. But it's not aesthetically pleasing to me at all, with a giant bulge on the outside of your tank is terrible. I'd rather have a low profile pump inside the tank. But that's just me, we all like what we like.
I am very interested in this pump after this video: everyone is talking about the Nero5, but this is the first time I’ve seen the directional positioning feature (and I’m lazy, so I’m sure it’s been covered elsewhere). My big gripe about the Vortech is that it’s a flat, unidirectional device. If this sells well (and it’s got a lot of fans) maybe they will offer a “Nero 3” with a little less power, magnets good for .5” inch glass instead of one inch, maybe a wifi-free controller at a cheaper price. I’d by two mini versions for $300!
Looking at getting a new wavemaker but need help. I ve got a 300Lish tank including the the sump. Will i be better off with 1no nero 5 or 2no nero 3? In the video it says you should aim for 30-50 times more so i m guessing either option is fine but what option is better. Thanks
The absolute only thing keeping me from buying this instead of an EcoTech is that the dang cord is still in the tank. Put the cord on the outside, and I’ll buy it every time
I have a 55 gallon. I bought a Nero 3 is that enough for live rock fish only tank. I was thinking about buying another one to put on the other side. Curious can I place both of them on the back of the tank?
The only issue you may run into is that since a 55 is pretty narrow from front to back, the pumps on the back wall may blow some of the sand away from the front of the tank and create a bare spot.
I just got one, haven't powered it up yet but have installed on the tank. One thing I noticed is the mag on the pump itself seems a lil weak, I have accidentally slightly bumped it when working on the new tank and have seen it come off easily. Not sure if the mag mount is stronger once in operation, to be determined. Another thing I didnt really like but is purely preference is the cord on the top and the bottom of the controller, imo would be easier mounted and grab able if both cords came out of one side of the controller instead of one top one bottom. The nero 5 is very nice though other than my con preferences.
@@dramad2974 glad you found both of them! (Not the mag) now dont stick your hand in the tank and bump it again. Turn it up with your ai/phone app and magically it doesn't fall off.. Look forward to the video recreation of you bumping it off the magnet, in a new tank. Probably not even on at that point! Before you start to badmouth something might want to read the instructions or ask other people who have had it longer with more experience.
@@jnava121 Agreed.....nothing more aggravating than looking for product reviews and having to read reviews like "Awesome product, better than all the others....just haven't taken it out of the box yet though.."!!!! Aside from just defining AC and DC motors, can you explain why someone might choose one over the other? I haven’t been able to find a video/article about this topic.
Generally speaking, DC motors are a bit more quiet and more energy efficient. DC motors can also be more easily controlled, so there are some features there too.
Not necessarily. We usually suggest using a random flow mode. When setting it up, watch how the flow interacts with your rockwork, sand bed, fish, and corals. You can usually get flow right just by the visual. You don't want the corals' flesh being blasted into their skeleton, you don't want fish struggling to swim, you don't want sand blowing everywhere, etc.
Yep! The driver itself is really light weight, so if you use a quality double sided tape, you shouldn't have an issue. I like the 3M brand double sided foam tape specifically.
Hi, great vid and interesting comments on the phase setting. I currently run it on 180 degrees but noticed you recommend 90 for more variation in flow patterns. I might be missing a trick here but I don't understand how 90 sets the child slightly behind the parent but 180 is anti sync? What happens in the phase modes between 0-90 and 90-180. I love this pump especially as when you clean it the magnets stay win place and you are not trying to remember where it was set. Also very quiet. I also think people should remember it's new and will undoubtably go though a development cycle as the MP series did
Honestly, this pump is too expensive. If it was 125 or 150 I'd buy it. But for the price, better to just get an MP10. EcoTech service is on another level. I do see a small niche though for peolple with peninsula tanks. The wire can stay in the tank instead of the outside if you needed to place one on the long side of the tank.
just get a jebao slw series same flow less features but you can get 3 or 4 jebao slw series for less than one of the AI nero pumps which are made in the same factories as the jebaos.
I have one in my 46g bowfront reef and when installed long ways across the tank it's perfect. But when placed on the back of the tank it really did blast everything. They really do move a lot of water volume. I'd have agree with everyone here... Mp10 is probably best

Drat, I was looking for one with an outside power cord that attaches to the pump magnetically through the glass/ceramic. I've seen those videos of Hon Non bo landscapes with water flowing and waterfalls, and was looking for something that would work in such situations. One is shown here in this video around the 3 minute mark: ua-cam.com/video/UwCacA-sErQ/v-deo.html

I can think of a lot of other things I could spend $300 on.....
I think they’re great value when you compare them to the ecotech pumps. I’ve spend money on cheaper pumps that fail within a few months.
You should add that if object is preventing the propeller to rotate pump will shut itself off and go into standby mode.

Will i only need 1 of these pumps for a 260 Litre reef tank?
If you're keeping softies or LPS, you could probably squeak by with just one. If you're keeping SPS, you'll need more flow.
Better than the gyre ?
