- ~3D Printing a complete Iron Man Suit~
In this series of videos i'll be doing my best to document and explain my process of constructing a full size, at-home built Iron Man suit.
For years i've been dreaming of this project and thanks to the cost of 3D printing tech dropping in price it's finally obtainable.
I'll be using a multitude of different techniques and skills i've learned throughout the years; a vast majority of them stemming from the automotive world, to make this a reality.
In this third video i cover the progress i've made so far. The torso and arms are complete and now i'm half way done with the legs
I've began modifying and fitting the suit to myself to make it more comfortable and wearable.
I had a lot more to cover but i had to split this update into 2 parts basically. Update 3 and 4 so stay tuned for more information regarding the progress with the motorised helmet , resin casting some clear parts for LEDs and plastic-welding parts .

Truly love the progress of the build so far but I really can’t wait to see the new prints and build for the new helmet! Keep up the awesome work, man!
Brian Nieto thanks man! I actually just finished printing it last night and it’s a perfect fit. A good size for the suit and it kind of looks a bit nicer detail wise :) I’m uploading video 4 today.
Frankly Built can’t wait to see it!!
Brian Nieto btw! You are my 200th subscriber! Haha thanks man!
This is cool as hell. I have wanted to build a war machine suit forever. This gives me the motivation to do it.
war machine suit????? this isnt war machine, this is the MK85.......
Clearly he’s just saying what he wants to build he isn’t saying this is war machine
@@calumbetts9779 omg lol i just realized this like 20 mins ago im retarded af XD
Did you?
@@messiboy3358 No I haven't. Other house projects took priority but one day....
Awesome videos. Keep up the great work.
AAAAARRRRGH i printed the wrong chest piece, i tell you this 3d printing is a learning process for sure but your guidance and tutorials are priceless Frank lol almost like the go to standard! great keep up the hard work it is appreciated!
Really enjoying this build process, keep it going :)
CreatorOblivion thank you! I’m enjoying it to haha
I ordered a cr10 because of your videos lol. You rarely see videos like these on youtube specially for cosplay since thats the main reason i wanted one so bad. Thanks for your awesome videos. Keep them up! Please.
Man. That like warms my heart haha thanks! If you want to know anything about them and setup or tips hit me up on Instagram (frankly_built)
I love this stuff man. It’s the best hobby I ever started and I love sharing information about it. The only reason I got into it was for this suit build. So don’t be a stranger!
It’s fun to watch these and see how far you’ve come!
Atleast someone likes watching them still haha I cringe at them now
@@FranklyBuilt I think these reinforce the concept of everyone starts somewhere. Not automatically perfect out of the gate.
Rewatching old videos and man have you came far it’s just mind blowing
Right?? Haha
2:24 doggo 10/10
Nice job! I would make some money in kids parties with something like that. LOL.
Underrated
You should print Iron Man Suit for Your Dog!
Kick ass job!
omg this is so amazing XD
This is probably my favorite video. I like seeing the progress and adjustments made to the fitting of the suit. @PhillyRich31
Thanks!
I'm actually thinking about making a static full size suite. How do you make the suite more solid? Also what do you use for the suite to stand, in the cheap? Thanks
Where did you get the 3d model files as I just got a printer and would lobe to take on a project like this.
I found one good way to scale is to cut a small outline of the model. Take about 10 minutes to print to make sure the length and width match up. How I do my Predator bios.
Alex_Hayashi that’s actually what I did on a few parts! They’re called test or size rings! They work super well
Nice
Predator
I’m so glad I found you bro I’ve been wanting to do something like this for a long time and now I know I can. The only thing is I don’t have a 3D printer. What would you recommend?
Creality Cr-10s
@@FranklyBuilt k thanks man I’ll look into it
can you please link the forearm stl file if you still have it. I am starting to build my own and I liked the look of the forearm.
Can you also link the hand topper please if you still have them.
Thanks for the motivation.
Which filament is this that looks so nice!
Sunlu PLA+
Hey bud I’m curios I’m wanting to start my mk85 suit like yours but yours looks way better than anything I’ve seen on thingiverse! Also what software if any do u use to cut the part into pieces because I can only find the whole parts and checking to see if there’s stl files that’s already cut like yours before I spend weeks in fusion! Lol
I use DO3d files. Keep watching this video series I cover everything. And tons of other tutorials
Id like to print this exact suit. Can you provide likes to the files / site you used?
Mind sharing your dimensions? About to start a halo and Ironman suit and am curious! Love the video
Joshua Haas the dimensions for what? Lol my entire body and a suit I printed for it? Haha that’s a crazy order. I’m sorry lol you have to scale and measure for yourself when it comes to armour building. But thank you very much! If you wanna talk in Instagram I can give you some more tips!
Hi, I saw the original model was made for a 6ft tall person. I am a bit over 6"2'ft with a small waist and normaly broad shoulders. Do you know how to scale it properly? Regards,
Jonathan
Research a program called Armour Smith
@@FranklyBuilt Thank you for your fast reply
Amazing progress! What are your sanding techniques to get rid of the print lines?
Jack Midgley thanks! And I’m just using like. 150-180 grit sandpaper for now. I don’t actually have to much layer lines to cut down really. I’m using a .6mm nozzle at .2mm layer height. 5mms print speed. I’m just doing it mostly to save time on printing it later. If you want to see more or talk hit me up on my Instagram! I love sharing any techniques I can with people. 👌🏼
@@FranklyBuilt Use XTC 3D resin followed by 80grit and you'll halve your sanding time. Then jump straight onto a couple of coats of filler primer and 300grit and you'll have a super smooth base for your paint.
Joel Carter honestly what you described is more work than what I’m already doing. I do about 1-2 quick passes with a palm sander with 100gritt and it’s baby smooth. Zero layer lines ready for normal primer lol I sanded the entire suit in about 2 hours in my garage post print.
@@FranklyBuilt Nice! I just got a sandblaster and it gets rid of the layer lines in no time.
Jack Midgley smart idea haha 😂
How does the plastic welding work?
Use magnets or electric magnets
Bruh he just rubbed him fingers over the cod pieces I’m sorry I was dying 😂
hi! how many days of printing has it been? speed and mm of the printer? tnx
Rolando Logronio hey man. I have another video on the page with some more print details! You should check it out.
But in a nutshell, weeks lol I’m going to have a video at the end detailing entire print times, post work, all the time and bits.
I’m printing at 50mms speed
Hey franky, thanks for the motivation hehe, am facing a problem with scaling the hard wrest !! 90% is to big and 80% is too small, i tried 85% but still can’t get my wrest inside without breaking the plastic, how can i solve this issue ?!
try in-between like 81, 82 , 83 and print test rings
Hey Man, Great work!! I think is time for me to get my hands on one 3dP, which one do you think is better for an Iron Man suit? CR10?
Any CR-10 variation for sure
I'm thinking about trying my hand at 3d printing airsoft armor and gear. But am having trouble. Well any 3d printer do? Logically I know I will have a easier time with a large 3d printer.
I was thinking some wicked full body armor. With 3d printed nuts bolts and screws to help hold everything. Onto the person wearing it.
Oh god's if I could somehow magnetize the armor peices. I could actually put thin light weight metal plating. With screws and bolts and nuts holding the plates into place.
I'm not thinking one or 3 peice armor. I was thinking multiple layers and peices.
Under and outer armor so to speak.
Yet
I am thinking about getting a cr10 because of you, how hard do you think it will be to make a gundam suite?
Mark Carey oh that’s awesome haha and do you already have the 3D files for it or will you need to also model them?
@@FranklyBuilt thanks so much for responding. I have the files but heard it would take over a year to print. And since i have never printed anything before im nervous about messing up and think i should do a smaller armor build first. Thoughts?
Mark Carey well I had most of my suit printed on 45 days roughly. You would really need to start practicing abs printing to see how long it would take. If you have the files, download the Cura slicer program and learn it. Then you can slicer and render the code to see just how long print would take you
What do you recommend for PLA weld?
Soldering iron! I have another video on it actually
It looks cool thanks for the video. But I need the files for the suit please can you give us the link
DO3D.com. Check the description
Do you think that plastic will be tough enough to make armor for Airsoft guns?
I do actually. With a strong enough infill
I'm thinking about buying one for me and my son, my daughter is also into cosplay which I also find quite interesting. What kind of printer do you have to get that will print something that large?
🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
Hi Frankly, I`m a fan of your videos. I`m from Germany and in process of making myself a 3d printed iron man armor. I can't get any further with the cura settings for the arms and legs. Can you give me a tip for the settings? Greeds Uli
Hey Uli, hast du das Problem lösen können? Wie weit bist du?
Link for this gauntlet you used?
HOW DID YOU KEEP THE FINGERS TOGETHER ?
He uses a five dollar elastic band roll on Amazon and then uses superglue to glue in the fingers
How much filament did you use for this
The FUNTIME foxy plush Adventures about 14 rolls
where do you get the files for the armour. I have the helmet but i want the rest and soft want to waste money on poor files.
Do3d.com
Make a suit for the dog 😂
Can I ask how long something like this takes
Months
@@FranklyBuilt I have a 3d printer been wanting to 3d print spartan armor
I'm a 3d modeler and cosplayer.
Would this type of 3d printed plastic be stab-proof??
Richard Kennedy uhhhh probably not lol 😂 why?
@@FranklyBuilt Just wondering nothing serious.. what type of plastic would I use if I wanted a strong suit though? could I print a metal suit?? that'd be pretty cool.
@@sydcorp_innovation_asf9338 yeah you can print metal but you would need a kilm and a well ventilated area because of toxic fumes
did you have much waste from printing the whole suit??
Nope! Maybe 2-3 rolls total
@@FranklyBuilt is 20% considered a low amount of waste?
It's my dream to print an iron man suit, but I'm too fat 😂
Do you have template or pdf iron man...
How much material was used for this
15 rolls
Cool thats a good job man!
Franky aryan482here 😁
How much plastics did you use
15 rolls
What the glue and the name of the puddy you use I'm from Australia so I can not translate it
Nother question how can you size it to any one body to fit
I have a video on scaling actually! Check the cosplay craft playlist
Cyanoacrylate glue
where is files any link?
In the description
can you send the template
Am i the only person here watching this at almost midnight?
Not just you bro
@@AjioneCanty-to8eu damn you saw this 2 years after i comented
I'm building the same armour myself right now, although it looks like you're using the old version do3d files. This is my third Iron Man build. I've previously built mk45 and mk50 suits. www.starkindustries.ch for some images. Hit me up if you want to compare notes.
Joel Carter oh it’s you! I’ve seen your work in Facebook man. That’s awesome. I didn’t know they had new files for the suit? I know they updated a few things but haven’t noticed a difference in other people’s builds.
@@FranklyBuilt Cheers buddy. Do3d updated the abdomen mainly. No great shakes, but more screen accurate.
Joel Carter good to know. Not too bad then.
Cant you Just Put the Link from thingiverse of every Part in the comments or Something ?
Geistergrieger HD no lol these files aren’t from Thingiverse. They’re paid STL files from DO3D.com. It’s one full file set
Frankly Built I see the website but no link to “order” what’s the price for the file set?
Anton Talks Tech yoo have to email them! I think the set is like $150 right now
@@FranklyBuilt I see! is this the Iron Man Mark 85 ? or which version are you making
Anton Talks Tech yeah it’s the 85
