I usually get every year: - Laptop (might not need a new one every year) - Planner - 1 1/2-Inch Binder - 5-8 Tab Binder divider - A notebook for each class (if you prefer writing over typing) - Pens - Pencils - Highlighters - Sticky Notes - Index Cards - Hand Held Calculator
I would highly recommend getting a big binder with dividers and using it for all or multiple classes. This allows you to add paper to a subject unlike notebooks. You can also hole punch any printouts. I’ve done this since highschool and it can be much more organized.
this is kinda a bad idea because why would you want to take out a big binder each time and plus some days you only have one class to go to not multiple classes. Edit: forgot to mention there’s binder notebooks. Basically notebooks that allows you to add the amount of paper you need.
No literally!! I live at least a little over five minutes away from my college so there’s no need for nothing that has anything with the dorm, the supplies only!
I'm going to go to college but I will go home every day since I'm living with my parents. I don't need to worry about dorm room stuff. I just need the school stuff for studying. This video is perfect because the other videos i wach say "you need toiletries" "you need clothes " etc and I dont need to bring that stuff.
I didn’t get binders or notebooks for college (unless the professor required it). I got a clipboard/folder hybrid and put loose leaf paper in them. I took notes on that and dated, labeled and numbered the pages. Then I’d file the notes in the specific folder for the class. It’s so much lighter this way and way less wasteful. It carried over for the subsequent semesters. I could keep the class handouts and my own notes together and organized. I always dated the class handouts too so I could correspond them to the notes I took that day. I wrote in pencil cuz I liked to erase things easily and keep my notes tidy. After I’d go over my notes in pens and highlighters.
I recommend getting file folders because they are great for organization. I have been using them since highschool and they take up less space than a binder.
I took a gap year after graduating highschool, so I'm starting college a bit later than my friends. I start in eight days, I'm so excited but I had no idea what to get. Thank you for the help.
bruh as an incoming freshman at emerson this is literally so helpful ! and the effort that goes into linking everything in the description like damn props go you !
This helped me a lot honestly last semester I did an online summer course for my first semester of college this semester I’m going in person driving an hour everyday and this literally talked about all the real essentials THANK YOU
I'm starting college next month and the things i buy for my school stuff is just binder, fillers for my binder, ballpen, file organizer, sticky notes, highlighter, yellow pad, dividers, clip board and a bag
I’m starting college in two weeks I’m 19 and have been working since 16 so I thought it was time for a career change and I’m going to be doing software and web development a levels and there’s really not a lot of videos telling me what to expect and what to get as preparation lmao I’m so unorganised rn from lack of information so when I go for my induction next week be sure I’m gonna bombard the tutors for a idea of what I need
I’m going in two months and personally I prefer iPad more than a laptop because it’s much easier to carry around for me and the one I’m getting has data so I can use it anywhere even if there’s no wifi. I also love mini pens they just write so nicely. For any kind of paper I enjoy using kokuyo brand because the paper is a nice quality and the pen just goes well with it. You just have to wait for a couple seconds to dry because the paper is more silky so it takes a bit longer to dry than a dollar store paper would. I also have this “invisible” post it notes where I can put over a text and I’ll see the text which could be very useful especially if you’re borrowing a book and cannot write on the paper. For pencils I just get those bulk mechanical pencils and get a tombow eraser. I like stabilo highlighters they are long lasting but I also have some sharpie highlighters the ones with the clear middle. I’m planning to use my tote so I’ll just get an organizer to keep it from getting messed up. I also have this waterproof usb from the brand gorilla which is amazing and I’m planning on getting another one. A regular 6 inch ruler, gum, and some snacks (I chose afternoon classes and I get hungry when I study). It’s also good to bring a water bottle with you. A small notepad to write important things or train of thoughts to make sure I don’t forget Here’s my starter list: •tote bag •iPad •waterproof usb from Gorilla •bag organizer •kokuyo notebooks/binders/papers •small notepad •muji pens •tombow eraser •pack of mechanical pencils •stabilo and sharpie highlighters •clear post it notes •6 inch ruler •water bottle •gum •snacks
Thank you for your very informative video! I’m an incoming Emerson freshman and can’t wait to get to Boston next month! What camera do you recommend bringing to school? I was looking to get a new one before the year started
i’m so happy for you! it depends what you want to use it for! i personally love the canon g7x for vlogging it’s so versatile and the quality is so good! i have a link for it in my description if you’re interested!
I’m going to be a freshman in college here in a couple days and I’m saving up for an iPad do you think that can work out as well? Like for taking notes
Do you take tests on your college laptop or do your college classes administer their tests on special computers that are permanently stationed on the campus?
hmm, i honestly don't know of any good printers because i never really thought of getting one! i know HP is definitely a good brand of printer if you're thinking of getting one!
i personally didn’t have one just bc whenever i would print something there would be a stapler in the library but there would be some times where i needed one in my room...luckily my roommate had one!
I’m having this problem too :( Nor my family or I have the money to buy a laptop or IPad. I’m studying art so an iPad is kinda a must for me and it’s pretty stressful not being able to afford anything.
happy back to college szn!! comment your school and year to see if there are any in common!

yes it's definitely personal preference! mine has differed over the years!
dom coleges give out alot of printouts or is everything omnline based unlike highschool

i’ve done this all through high school but i always look like a nerd with my huge bulky binders 😭
Thank you!! I was kinda frustrated because all these "college packing videos" only cover dorm essentials, but never supplies!!
No literally!! I live at least a little over five minutes away from my college so there’s no need for nothing that has anything with the dorm, the supplies only!
I’m starting college in less than one month! I’m so nervous 😭

Always know your schedule classes you have
I’m going to be a freshman in college here in a couple days and I’m saving up for an iPad do you think that can work out as well? Like for taking notes

this video was so helpful! thanks!!
i'm so glad!! thank u for watching!!!
I start some clear classes on Tuesday, and I’m excited! This was super helpful!
good luck on your semester! you got this!
Do you take tests on your college laptop or do your college classes administer their tests on special computers that are permanently stationed on the campus?
it depends on the professor! usually its on your own laptop
I would personnally use the Maruman Kurufit Binders and i bring all of them but their so thin and light weight it barely takes space in my backpack
Hey girl! I loved the MacBook case cover in your thumbnail! Where did you get it from?
hey! here's the one that I bought! amzn.to/3xLY7e9
Yesterday I was watching year 7 videos and all of the sudden I’m on college
What highlighter colors do you prefer?
Do you recommend ball point pens or felt tip pens or some other type of pens?
College next week lol
I have an iPad and I don’t really have the money to get a Mac. Are these two things relatively similar enough to work the same ?
Yes
such a fun vid!!
thank u!!
yessss finally thank u girl for the essential realistic supply list 👏👏👏
of course!!
What kind of printer would you recommend?
hmm, i honestly don't know of any good printers because i never really thought of getting one! i know HP is definitely a good brand of printer if you're thinking of getting one!
Thanks so much for this 🙏🏽
Omg Emerson is like my dream school to go to do you think I could get in
of course! manifest it, and work hard on your application!!
can u use an ipad with a keyboard
Stapler?
i personally didn’t have one just bc whenever i would print something there would be a stapler in the library but there would be some times where i needed one in my room...luckily my roommate had one!
how many folders should you use in college in highschool i over packed so many notebooks and folders and it just was too much
i only use one!
College professors still require you to purchase books? I thought all the textbooks were online these days.
most of mine required actual textbooks all the way through my senior year!
does anyone know what i should do if i can’t afford to bring a laptop 2 school ):
Get ur money up
I guess see if your school has a library or a computer lab that you can use
I’m having this problem too :( Nor my family or I have the money to buy a laptop or IPad. I’m studying art so an iPad is kinda a must for me and it’s pretty stressful not being able to afford anything.
i know my university has a program where they loan students laptops. check to see if yours does!
I move in to Fisher College in Boston in 1 week!!!
that's so exciting!
I’m going to Amherst in a month 😓😓
WE NEED BRAIN TO GO TO COLLEGE 😅
Kurtis Conner
Why don't some professors allow you to take notes on your laptop?
we get distracted easily on our screens - the professors want all of the attention on them!
Instead of a laptop is an iPad ok? >.
yes!
CSUN 27 button ---------->
I'm still in high school student but I'm also thinking about my college year
