Thank you!
Dammmmmm noice ty for list
omg tysm you're contributing good to society
You are GREAT
Thanks
Great tips, also:
1. strainer basket "collander" for quick small bits of laundry and to wash delicates that can't be machine washed (in the sink).
2. Air purifier or houseplant.
3. Small cooking apliance for convienance (if there is a community kitchen).
Good ideas, but make sure you read your housing contract carefully to see what's banned, if anything. Some of the rules are 'flexible' (most ban pets, but nobody's getting in trouble over a betta fish unless they slept with the RA's girlfriend or something), but they're less flexible about stuff that might set the place on fire if someone leaves them unattended, like candles or hot plates.
Air purifier is a must especially if the college has (known or unknown) mold and/or air quality issues... Also a good recommendation is to check all vents in your room to see if you need a new filter in any of them
Can you imagine how insane someone would look if they arrived at school with all the things this guy recommends
Lmao
I might've looked insane but everybody came to me when they needed something because I just happened to have everything lol
@@shaq__2400 true, you'd be our saviour
@@shaq__2400glad to know someone agrees with my school of thought
nah bro would be a Swiss army PERSON
As a current college junior living in a dorm for the 3rd year 98% of this is accurate. I would recommend splitting some stuff up with your roomie tho (if you can, like yall only need one toolbox, but you both should get the bed shelf) so the bill doesn't add up
- Consider bringing a second power strip, and bringing that one with you to classes for the first week. If you end up in a classroom that hasn't been updated and has like four outlets for fifty people, you'll be guaranteed an outlet, and four or five extra people will be able to plug in their laptops. Even better if you can get one with twistable outlets, in case someone has one of those bulky chargers that block off an extra outlet.
- Large Ziploc bags - they make plastic bags you can connect to vacuums to vacuum-pack bulky stuff like out-of-season sweaters, but you can get more or less the same effect by putting them in a regular Ziploc, closing the zipper except for an inch or so, and then sitting on the bag before closing that last inch.
- Not so much an item to pack as something I've done more times than is reasonable: If you need a stapler and nobody has one, you can pry empty staples out of nearby bulletin boards and 'manually' staple your pages together. Looks a bit odd, but it's better than nothing.
This is such a boujie list. I’ve been in college for 5 years, and unless you’re high maintenance, you’ll like maybe 20% of this. Definitely get an umbrella, desk lamp, and a toolbox though. College isn’t too scary. You’ll be alright young-ins
Good luck with your doctorate!
@@SuchDarkness How’d you know I’m going for my doctorate?

Scott is every college student’s saviour. He’s honestly awesome
Thank you so much for making these. I’m going to college in a few months and honestly- I was super overwhelmed at first. Your videos have made me realize that I have so many other people in the same place, and that I’m not alone. I also actually feel prepared and excited, something that didn’t seem possible with all the stress of trying to navigate college. Thank you, I want you to know that these videos really do help(:
Most of all, you’ll accumulate things over time. Don’t overstock yourself freshmen year!
Good luck at college!
I hope you have a fun time at with new friends and have fun trying to figure out whare your college dom is❤
8:27 love you love you
A note on allergy meds. Try to avoid Benadryl if you take it in the am. It will make you sleepy and might affect class performance. (You shouldn't take it to help you sleep unless you have an allergy preventing you from sleeping. The sleep they give you lacks REM sleep which is what makes you learn and feel refreshed)
Zyrtec is going to work the same, but wont make you sleepy so you can take it in the morning.
I am 6 years away from college but I still watch these a lot-
Ok, deadass?
I really wanna thank you for this series, I watched all of them before my freshman year and you SAVED me.
The umbrella, the storage, EVERYTHING.
THANK YOU.🥰
“GETTING A KETTLE IS LUXURY!!!”
me a british person: it’s apart of every house hold
same i love in ireland and i have ever been in a house that didn’t or doesn’t have a kettle 🥲
*live
Same here in Aus. I was surprised when I found out Americans didn't know what electric kettles we're.
@@mimig7251 IKR!?!??
@@mimig7251 do you actually believe that?
This needs to be an add for college students
I swear Scott is the adds we actually want to watch
Also he's awesome keep it up 👍
you honestly don't need most of these things. Definitely get a fan, bring formal clothes, bring an umbrella if you'll use it, you might want to bring a couple tools, check if your dorm allows extension chords before you bring one, and everything else just wait to see if you need it when you actually move in. You don't want to be wasting money on a bunch of unnecessary things when you're a new broke college student. And you don’t want to shove a bunch of stuff you don’t need into your already cramped dorm
yep! its good to know these things if you run into problems, or if youre in a specific situation that warrants them, but dont bring a shit ton of stuff your freshman year
Plus, if you can make do with just the essentials for the first semester, many people who drop out or transfer after that first semester are looking to get rid of stuff they don't want to bring with them.
the first one is really the saying " Never judge a book by its cover"
Hey y’all! I’m a college student and something I did for a makeshift nightstand is grab one of those sets of drawers from Target and put it on top of my desk, which is under my lofted bed. It gives me more storage and works perfectly!
I’m not gonna be able to enter college until 3 more years, but honestly this is a LOT more helpful. My sister watched these too, and let me tell you, these tips were a life saver.
Honestly, if i was gonna get a dorm in college, this video is a LIFE saver! Thanks for the tips!
I'm moving into my first dorm in the Fall and this is a complete lifesaver, honestly. Thank you!
I'd love to see more

BEING UNNATURALLY TALL
Are you ranboo?
@@mango3steen No, Im tall
@@JoeMama-md4zt ranboo is unnaturally tall
8:26 meanwhile me fitting 3 of my friends plus myself in my twin XL at home but we’re all large and we slept with our legs hanging off the bed
I found this recently! I'm a high school senior and this came in just in time!
Thing to bring that were pretty useful:
Scrubba wash bags- they're great to use if you need to wash a few things to wear for a couple of days. Plus it's compact.
A lantern that has a solar panel and hand crank: quite useful if there's a black out and saves you money on batteries. Plus you can double it as a desk lamp.
Power banks with built in wires: quite useful if you keep on misplacing your charging wire when you're rushing out the door.
Travel cutlery: quite useful if there's no cutlery around or if you're a bit of a germphobe.
Collapsible travel mug and/or insulated mug: the collapsible travel mug comes in handy and it saves on space in your bag. The insulated mug is great on those cold days/nights when studying or relaxing.
Insulated water bottle: great for warm weather.
I'm not even planning on going to college but i keep writing down all these things you say, thanks fo rmaking a video of alot of them cause this is better then scrolling to find them all, love your content!
0:45 plastic wrap or like the silver foil thingy works excellent for that too!! :)
5:25 I did like a visitation to a local University (in the uk) every dorm had a kettle
5th year of college person here.
You’ll be fine guys ^w^. Good luck, and make connections SERIOUSLY.
Yay. In a good few years I'm going to college and I will make sure to watch this the summer holidays before I go there.
I’m watching these like the college I’m about to go to isn’t literally 5 minutes away from my house and I’m gonna live at home
Scott your amazing! It's cool you do this. I didn't find out till I got to college what I really needed! None of the stuff I brought, lol! Parents should be watching these. I'm a grandparent and do! 😊
Scott speaks faster than I run 😂
You can also use a paper clip to hold pages together
I’m a childfree 40 yo, long since graduated college and never lived on campus anyway… watched the whole thing because your delivery is so funny
6:37 that sounds good for time of the months
thank you! I need this
I literally have been saving your videos like this so hopefully I see this when I’m college lol!
Congratulations! You just saved many many many many many many many many many lives
0:35 I’ve got an 8am and my roommate usually has class around noon and they really thank me for staying quiet. I make it a point not to disturb them so we don’t argue in the future lmao
I’m gonna be a freshman this fall so thank you so so much for this!! So helpful
My bi posture wont let me use a lap desk lmao
The amount of times I laughed during this video🤣🤣. This was great, helpful, and entertaining. Thank you! You are very funny😂
Thank you so much❤
I actually have the food silicone lids, and they are INSANELY useful! They come in like 8 sizes, would highly recommend
Ive tried the loop earplugs. They work so well. 10/10 recommend
Starting my freshman year of college in two weeks and im terrified lol. this was super helpful
I am subscribed to your channel and your the best u make the best videos and ur so funny ❤❤
The fan for me is a MUST HAVE. They crank up the heat in the dorms during the winter months, so the pipes don’t freeze, which means I end up using a fan even with the freezing weather outside
7:22 this made me giggle 🤭 thanks scott
Wow 1 min not bad I NEEDED THIS
I just love how Scott makes everything sound too literal 😅
2:42 I had one. It broke on the way to class on a huge downpour. I live off campus and was just near my building when it happened. Not a fun day 😢
Scott makes college sound fun
sometimes
Tip: Get shower caps (free from hotels and pretty cheap too) if you don't have the silicone lid thing. They are light, space-saving, and reusable!
As a sophomore preparing for college, I see this list as an absolute win
So accurate
I can testify, those loops earplugs are the best I’ve ever used.
Waiting for res applications to open. Very happy my res is two separate rooms
Not me whose LITERALLY in elementary school but I’m watching these videos cuz I think they are rllly reallly rlly helpful so THANK YOU:
This dude is a hero
I can confirm the Loop earplugs are good, I get overwhelmed extremely easily and it takes away the audio aspect of it :D
SCOTT I AM IN THE 10TH GRADE YOU’RE STRESSING ME OUT
My roommate in a few years will be asking me a bunch of questions when they see me with 1000 things just because this guy told me to bring the items

Ok I am obsessed with trolls band together and I literally got an ad for the movie right before this video and I was watching spoilers before this
As a person about yo graduate collage soon this is helpful
I am going to search for this video in 5 years. Oh boy, can’t the future just wait.

I didn't need allergies medication when i when away for college for a year in Brunswick GA by Saint Simons island, but the moved to Athens, GA and my seasonal allergies came back in 2017 sarly like they haven't left me for a year away at college by the Georgia coast.
I’m going to Louisville and I’m really scared so thx for all of this man
😁😁thanks
I'm in middle school and I'm already preparing myself mentally and physically for college
same here
Hey I did the same when I was young but called for being “skinny” and not “eating enough”
Stay healthy don’t let hate get to you and I love your mask
I think the only thing I still have from my first semester of college is my medicine box/first aid kit the amount of times it came in handy was nuts
Trusting the algorithm to bring me back next year
The speed this man talks is incredible
I LEGITIMATELY HAVE THAT SAME STEP STOOL.
I watched you for recess on the tv in our room (5A) lol
You did it
i remember the first time i watched one of these i was thinking that i still had a long time to think about my college dorm
*i graduate in 3 months*
This is awesome because my brother is going to college soon
Scott, what is that tent thing in the background of the photo of the mattress topper? Looks really comfy 😅just curious
HOW THE FRICK AM I GOING TO BE ABLE TO AFFORD THIS?!
As someone who lives in Pennsylvania, 5:35 was so real, i’m used to it, but whenever i go out of state my sinuses praise me, i don’t even have allergies.
Idk I’ve lived in Pennsylvania for 9 years and I never had allergies or at least of what I recall
I will definitely need headphones 🎧
1:33
small fans are a great idea but you need to clean them like once a month
im using a fan like that rn in my room and the blades get dusty. having that dust blow on your face all night or all day (or both, yikes) kills you
i just busted it out for summer, havent cleaned it. woke up a few days ago; "why do i have sore throat and a cough??? haha thats weird"
yes you deserve a oscar
3:40 omg 😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣😭😭😭💀💀💀💀
I ain’t in college yet but the MOMENT before I move in,I’m running to this corner of the internet to see what I need😅😅😂😂
Part 3 dipped
No one:
Me: *giggles as I steal this to use for my private high school*
In my dorm I am fortunate (or unfortunate) to have carpet floors. If you do have carpet floors get carpet cleaner cuz nothing is worse that spilling your dining hall burrito bowl that you brought back to your dorm so you could watch youtube in peace all over your carpet and not having a way to clean the sour cream out of the carpet. Seriously its a life saver.
The umbrella thing. Dear god do not forget an umbrella. My university is in Arkansas which rains like every 2 days. I got to chemistry soaking wet. I legit looked like I stepped out of the shower and into my 8 am. It was horrible I had to use paper towels to dry everything
Going to college in 3-4 months and I realized I'm so not prepared 😅.
6:12 sir i drink canteen water I only fear the flint Michigan water as i need no more brain damage
I can confirm allergies are bad in PA. 5:48
A little psa: if you do end up getting a power strip, please do NOT plug any space heaters in them. Power strips aren't built to handle the power of space heaters and can cause a fire. I hope this helps!!
I now am going to college close to home
