I literally bought this amp - and the Z12 controller - last night!! I have never - after 45 years of playing - gone down the midi path, so have been taking a deep breath cos when the gear arrives I have a lot of learning to do!! And then, lo & behold, your video shows up in my recommendations! And I'm Aussie, too! The Gods are smiling upon me. 😁😁😁 Looking forward to the learning. So disappointed the rotary pots on the front can't be midi controlled, as you pointed out. Now THAT would be totally awesome.
Had one of these for a couple of days, and still haven't got around to the MVB. I was pretty confident it would chug, and I heard its cleans are glasses, but the USP for me was the marriage of top chug tones with some beautiful edge-of-break-up cleans, didn't expect them to be so usable. Not an Orange, but very usable.
I wonder: Can I use the DI out without an IR? I mean, it would be useful for sending that signal unaffected straight inte my soundcard and DAW to test different IRs before uploading them to the ENGL... Or would I need an Attenuator/loadbox and take the signal from the speaker out to get an unaffected signal from the amp? That's another thing to buy for my usecase which is like to avoid.
@TheSuperFunAwesomeHappyTimePedalShow cheers. I ended up going for the Z12 footswitch anyway, just for the phantom power aspect. I don't think I can do tap tempo with that, but I can live without. Thanks again, great in depth vid.
Really wish they made a cheaper version of this without the builtin effects 👀 I got all my own effects but the thing itself sounds killer and the other features are cracking
did you guys ever record that tutorial on how to set up the midi controller? i'm very much in need of some help cause i want to just activate the MVB function with one of my pedal 's switches and for the life of me I can't make it work lol (it just goes to a boosted clean channel preset)
is there a way ta switch channel via midi with the airstep? I mean not with the additional cable for switching - is there a way? thanks, I love this demo!!
Love this amp... really want to get one... However, I am confused about whether or not I should buy a cab 🤔 I used to own the ENGL Screamer 50 with the ENGL 2x12 vintage 30 Cab and it all sounded incredible. I want to go back to having a setup like this but with the Ironball SE Tube amp. I love the sound of ENGL Tube Amps. Question - If I only bought the Amp head and outputted via IR to a good pair of studio monitors - would it sound just as good as the Amp with a 2x12 V30 ENGL cab? I presume you'd still be hearing the tube tones straight from the amp head?? Same for recording to DAW. Would you still be recording the Ironball's original Tube tone?? Thank you..
That’s a difficult question to answer...because some people (like me for example) really like the sound of amps through studio monitors but others seem to really not like it! The guitar will sound like a recorded guitar/amp... the amp will also interact slightly differently with your guitar...feedback for example will usually - but not always - sound quite different to the kind of feedback you get from a guitar speaker cabinet! I think you definitely need to get used to it...but once you are used to it...or at least once I got used to it...I started to really like it Hope that kinda makes sense?!?
@@TSFAHTPS Thank you. That's quite interesting for sure. Doesn't seem to be too much in it between Cab or IR->Studio Monitors. So if you were just sitting at home playing around with DAW etc, would you think that new software like Neural Amps / IRs are almost just as good as real Amp / Cab. I have an Axe FX2 and don't think it is, but that hardware is old now 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️😊
I also have Screamer 50 (first production line combo on v30 celestion made in england) and I bought E606SE recently. The third onboard IR in ironball sounds perfect to my ear. Screamer has been my main amp for over 7 years now and I just switched to ironball. its awesome amp.
@@TSFAHTPS Hello! I too am looking for a midi foot controller that will send CC messages as the Engl foot switchers do not. I have found a couple that do however they are very expensive (RJM, Liquid, Roland, etc. If you still are planning on the expanded video for this, that would be great!
I think unless you want pristine cleans this thing will have more than enough power! I guess it all depends on your drummer too. I used it for cover band gigs but without a speaker, just with the direct output straight to the PA and it worked great

Great video mates, the only video that shows all the potencial of this head and his clean channel. The other vids are guys playing full gain...

Love this amp!!!!! The clean sounds amazingly good!!! 👍🏽👍🏽 Loved the STP Meatplow riff 🤫
It’s a great all round amp...I like it a LOT!!
Hehe...thank you...I just listened to Purple for the first time in many many years...still such a great album!!

You can turn the IR off and just record a direct signal - the amp has a built in attenuator so no need for any extra gear!
Well dam!!! I thought the unboxing was good 😳 bye bye old Marshall amp hello soon to be purchased new Engl
Ultimate 20w head! For me absolutely.. excellent video both thanks!🙂
Thank you BluesSumlin!!
This thing really has absolutely everything, add all the foot switches and has really totally everything.
It sure does Robert...killer features and it sounds really good...I like it a LOT!!
Very nice video. Have you done a video about to program midi function ? I will be very useful thanks
I've been looking for a lower wattage amp for a while; literally bought this halfway through your video.
Hope you will like it…I think it’s a great amp…I use it all the time!!
Thanks for the review, guys! Very well done, except one thing. Why did you turned mids all the way down with Ormsby? Nobody plays like this...
Great review, guys.
Thank you very much Kevin!!
Regarding bad rear camera view - I think it's because the back is poorly iluminated, on the other hand well lit background view looks fine.
Just got the amp and Z9. Do you still plan to do a video of the Z9? I can't figure out S.A.C. for the life of me!
Did he ever do the full video of using the midi switcher with the Ironball? Thanks. Great vid.
No he hasn’t yet…but he…or I…will try to do it soon!!

They do build the normal Ironball (without SE).
@@johannesstadler9424 oooooh. Now we're talking
@@RJW14 it doesn't have Features like Impulse responses, delay and a noise gate to name a few. Also the clean channel sounds a bit different I think
@@johannesstadler9424 can use wall of sound or an independant IR loader like a mooer radar for the IR, but I've got 2 delays and 2 reverbs so yeah 😂
@@RJW14 I already own a Torpedo Captor X for IR's and silent recording/stage. So I am on the fence of buying a used ironball right now
Nice! and the midi programming video? I really need it! 😅
I’ve been wanting to do that video for AGES…I just always run out of time!! I’ll try to do it asap!!
About to buy this with the 2x12 over the mesa mini rec. Any thoughts? Looking forward to the midi programming video.
I think it’ll sound great!!
Midi video should be out in a few weeks!!

Подскажите пожалуйста, когда отключаешь выход на кабинет и берёшь линейный сигнал из усилителя в звуковую карту, теряется ли влияние оконечника?
