Best demo of this amp so far!
I have also seen multiple videos comparing the Ironball 20 SE with the Fireball 25. All made the mistake to not tune each amp individually but to tune the Fireball and then use the exact same settings for the Ironball.
Of course the Fireball will sound better, although the Ironball never sounded much worse.
You now have shown what I expected, watching all the other reviews. The Ieonball can sound just as full and mean as the Fireball, if you just tune it a bit by raising the bass slightly and lowering the mids.
Thank you for that! My decision to get the Ironball is now settled and I won't sought after the Fireball at all.
I really like how this guy shows everything from the inside
I like that you are consistent with the choice of chords so we can compare the sounds over the same progressions. Another great video.
Thanks Dave :) Yeah, I had difficulties to come up with more chords 😆
Dude, this demo is heads and tails better than any other demo on you tube. Instant subscriber. Perfect job!!!! REALLY thinking about getting this amp now. Thanks.
Wow, thanks!
Very thoughtful and thorough. I liked your measurements and weight check! Very different from the usual review!!
One of my favorite amps I’ve ever played! Great investment if you want the heavy tube sound and new technologies.
some high fuzz on that clean channel cranked up. wonder if it's actually in the amp but I assume yes cuz it's not in there when you play softly.
the best video for ENGL ironball special
Wow. My first impression is it’s a very expensive amp for its wattage. However tube design, combined with modern technology, the IR loader is brilliant with solid German craftsmanship I think justifies its price tag . My EVH Stealth LBX is about to be jealous. Great demo!!
Felt expensive compared to the competition, but the build quality is head-and-shoulders above the competition: this thing is a sleek tank, design near perfect, obviously built in Germany with admirable pride.
Hey man great video this is the only one i could find which actually sounds like an Engl!
Great review/demo!
This is a very cool amp. A lot of features here that would make it a great gigging/home studio hybrid. IR loading is an amazing feature. And this thing sounds TIGHT. great for chugga chugga.
Totally agree!
Tube Sockets on PCB , oh no ... Thanks what a great Review ! Its a great sounding AMp!
Awesome Review, thank you :)
that noise gate is only good for live, obviously. That high end fuzzy sound was not present in the lead channel. That one sounded nice. Clean was nice when it didn't have that fuzz in there.
Great demo!! Subscribed
Looks like a big improvement over the original. I didn't realize those handles they use collapse--that's good to see. Wonder when Diezel will finally release their VH Mini. The competition keeps heating up.
It definitely is. A cleaner clean is a plus, even though I know not many will use this amp as a pedal platform
Great review Thanks
When you store presets does it store the reverb and delay settings that you dial in as well?
Excellent video sir.
Leaving here to buy one. ENGL should give you a % lol.
Great rewiew.🔝👌🏻
ausgezeichneter Verstärker und Bewertung...Hail Hydra!
Tremendous review, very thorough and greatly appreciated. Do you or anyone here know the SE's pre amp tubes position: V1 gain stage, v2 cathode follower? V3 phase inverter? V4 tube fx loop? Can't find any info online or in manual that i read... Thank you
Thanks. I assume something like this shall be mentioned in the manual or inside the amp. I don't have the amp anywhere near now and can't take a look. Chances are it follows the common logic you described
These days I think all amps should have bias adjustment on the outside chassis. Would make retubing this a hell of a lot easier. Still a cool amp tho.
I partially agree. Yes, it would make it much more convenient for those who know what they're doing. On the other hand, you don't want a control like this to be exposed to people who have no idea what it is but can't resist from turning knobs
@@MaxSoloMusic well your point is valid. I just assumed everyone knows this. And that's why assumptions is mother of all fuckups. 😅
Я в будущем думаю купить такой, это наверное лучший вариант для домашнего использования
Is this too loud for home use at 1 watt???? I love this damn thing.
no it isnt loud, if you are still intrested I can be more specific
If I were to record with this (without owning a cab, but using the IRs), I would turn speaker off, use the IR balanced output to my audio interface/DAW controller, and keep it on standby mode in the front? Can the standby switch be used as if it were plugged into a cab? Or will that damage my audio interface without a cab connected? I'm thinking about one of these for recording, but don't have a cab for it yet.
Update: Fluff addressed this in his older review. Standby can remain on with no cab selected for using the IR out XLR port.
Yes. In Speaker Off mode all the output power gets dissipated in the in-built soaker's resistors, so no need to be conected to a speaker. The brilliant thing is you can output a balanced line level signal that comes after the power tubes (and let them crunch your cleans!).
@@gastonpossel what happens if I turn the power section ON, by flipping the standby switch up, while still using speaker off in the back? This is bad to do? I have the Engl 🙌
@@miremaker It's perfectly fine. If fact I often record silently from the Line Out with Speaker Off but passing the signal through the power tubes. The soaker resistors take care of the power dissipation, it's designed to do so. The Standby Switch is useless IMO.
@@gastonpossel what if I turn it on through using headphones. Will I hear the difference from the power section being on? I used it with standby on (switch down), and thought the Engl sounded a little thin.
Oh well, so the SE version indeed has better lead channel. I hate the high frequency fuzzing of Ironball std edition like old radio which looks like is tamed by the SE version.
I have it and it is the noisiest amp I've ever had, squeals screams and sounds like interference is coming into the unit.
That's really strange. I've played many Ironballs and never had any problems with them. It's either a malfunction or the problem is somewhere else in your signal chain.
@@MaxSoloMusic Maybe a malfunction, I've tried different cables, different cabinets, 4 different guitars and all squeal like a stuck pig. Guess I should try to send it back to Sweetwater. times like this that you would prefer a local retail outlet.
