I am a 67 year old guy and I annoy my grandaughters by texting them pictures of my baking achievements.My son said when they were hanging out at his house together one of them said "does he send you pictures of his bread too ? So it's working LOL
I remember when my mom would make them. She'd press out the slices of cookie with the palm of her hand. Then she'd put a teaspoon of jam in the middle and top it with another slice of cookie. When they came out of the over, she'd carefully sprinkle powdered sugar on top. They are very good that way. I have been waiting for my sister to find my mom's recipe. Done these for an old fashioned outdoor wedding tea and they were a big hit, not even a crumb leftover. Have made them with blue cornmeal and they turn out so pretty.
I am 74 now, but way back when, my grandmother and I used to make these cookies. She was born in 1898 and went home to God in 1965. I miss her very much. She had a garden on one acre that she tended too and grew everything. She also had fruit trees and berry bushes. Plant in the spring and harvest in the fall. When it was time to harvest the stove turned on at 5am and turned off at 6pm. Canning was a joy. Root cellar for all the canned foods. She supplied 2 men that had roadside stands with vegetables and fruit. Canned and fresh. They bought from her and sold to others. Every season people looked forward to Grandma's veggies and fruits. Bet it might be- my parents married at the beginning of WW2- they had just lived through Depression, slam bang Wartime shortages- but they came through it fine but a lot of Mama's recipes were from those eras but I was fed just fine. Maybe were money- poor but we were wealthy in 🥰 Love!

My husband had a severe allergy to wheat rye, outside and barley. I had to developed my own receipes. I found a receipe on a bag of corn meal. I could not use any wheat flour. I used all corn meal and no wheat flour. They were delicious and he into them. Thank you for your program and for sharing your faith. These remind me of the Fruit Ice Box cookies my Grandma always made for Christmas. The amount is very different but putting them in rolls in the refrigerator, or even freezer, to slice off and bake as you need them is the same. I will use different types of fruit and nuts depending on what I have on hand, I love the versatility of recipes from my Grandma's where they lived through the depression as well. Some of the best recipes came from those hard times.
I'm 58 and i remember my dad making these when i was younger. Yrs later i made them myself. I forgot all about these until i saw your video. Thank you!

Hi Becky, I just made a batch of 12 Christmas cookies with Christmas shapes cookie cutters I bought at the Dollar 25 store Hahah. cutter of 6 in the pack. Second batch of 10 is in the oven. I'll frost them with different colors, I have white, red and blue, for the other colors I'll add food coloring to the container of Pillsbury white frosting in the morning and bring them to Christmas Dance tomorrow 12 23 22. I just mixed up the dough. Looking forward to baking them tomorrow. Talking with my dad about using haft flour and half substituted like corn mill He said that his mom would make pancakes with half wheat and half white flour. That they were the best he ever had.

I found a similar recipe years and years ago, in a magazine. The recipe called them “Cornmeal Cookies”. I have been making them ever since, at least 35+years. They are delicious. And I prefer to use yellow cornmeal. I roll and cut mine, works great that way also.

Hi Becky, I just made a batch of 12 Christmas cookies with Christmas shapes cookie cutters I bought at the Dollar 25 store Hahah. cutter of 6 in the pack. Second batch of 10 is in the oven. I'll frost them with different colors, I have white, red and blue, for the other colors I'll add food coloring to the container of Pillsbury white frosting in the morning and bring them to Christmas Dance tomorrow 12 23 22. I found a similar recipe years and years ago, in a magazine. The recipe called them “Cornmeal Cookies”. I have been making them ever since, at least 35+years. They are delicious. And I prefer to use yellow cornmeal. I roll and cut mine, works great that way also.
