I've been to 2 Sabaton concerts in Calgary. The one time they asked us if we wanted to hear a song in Swedish or English and we all voted Swedish. He did a double take and was like "wtf? Do you all speak Swedish now? Well, prove it then."

Since Charles V, ruler of the holy roman empire couldn’t pay his troops they mutinied and forced their commander to lead them towards Rome where plunder was plentiful. When the invading force entered the Vatican pope Clement VII escaped to Castel Sant’Angelo via Passetto di Borgo. The few remaining guardsmen gave their lives on the steps to St. Peters Basilica.

The thought of people calling something old, when it's only a few years. Always bothered me for various reasons. Lol I listen to music as old as 1940's. In my mind, everything after the year 2000 is "new" to me.
Their concerts are a BLAST! My wife and I have gone to see them 4 times so far. Would've been 5 but they had to cancel a lot of their tour dates when some of the guys from Judas Priest came down with covid. Can't blame them for cutting the tour short, all things considered. 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻

As a fellow Canadian (PEI by way of Toronto) I suggest checking out Fields of Verdun by Sabaton as it deals with the WW1 battle of Verdun which is one of the bloodiest battles Canadians have fought outside of The Somme. Great song, great video and great Sabaton History video for it too. If you're looking for something along the same lines as Sabaton (military history) I would HIGHLY recommend Iced Earth - Gettysburg (1863). It's the pinnacle and magnum opus of the bands 30+ year career. 32 minutes long covering the three days of fighting - July 1, 2, 3 1863 - from several different angles - The Devil to Pay - from the Union perspective (specifically General John Bufords intercepting of the Confederate Army at Gettysburg), Hold At All Costs - depicts how friends and family were fighting on opposing sides but despite being friends, they were at war and the lines must hold at all costs and last the High Water Mark - Generals Lee and Longstreet debate their plan of attack, Longstreet doubts the plan will succeed, delays issuing orders and ultimately the Confederates loose the battle. Lee, believing God was protecting the Confederate Army and his leadership divine, realizes the mistakes of his beliefs and upon the Confederates utter defeat on July 3, blames himself and announces the blood of the battle is solely on his hands. It's fucking EPIC and deserves much more recognition from reactors than the few reactions that are out there.

I'd recommend his song "Kuoppa" (meaning "Pit" or "Hole" in Finnish) or "Colder" with his first band Charon to start. Or even "Dance With The Dragon" by Dark Sarah, if you like musical theatre.

On May 6th 1527 189 Swiss Guard mercenaries stood their ground along with 5,000 militiamen against a force of 20,000 plus strong made up of German mercenaries, Spanish soldiers & Italian mercenaries who were in service to the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V in his war against Pope Clement VII. The troops, because they weren't being paid, decided to mutiny against Charles & plundered Rome as well as the Vatican City. The Swiss Guard organized and lead a retreat to Castel Sant'Angelo for Clement, defending every inch of the movement, where he stayed until a ransom was paid out to the mutinous pillagers. All 189 of the Swiss Guard perished. However to this day the Swiss Guard still act as bodyguards to whoever holds the office of Pope because of those 189 who upheld their contract to the very end, despite not having been paid themselves prior to the sacking of Rome.

On May 6th 1527 189 Swiss Guard mercenaries stood their ground along with 5,000 militiamen against a force of 20,000 plus strong made up of German mercenaries, Spanish soldiers & Italian mercenaries who were in service to the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V in his war against Pope Clement VII. The troops, because they weren't being paid, decided to mutiny against Charles & plundered Rome as well as the Vatican City. The Swiss Guard organized and lead a retreat to Castel Sant'Angelo for Clement, defending every inch of the movement, where he stayed until a ransom was paid out to the mutinous pillagers. All 189 of the Swiss Guard perished. However to this day the Swiss Guard still act as bodyguards to whoever holds the office of Pope because of those 189 who upheld their contract to the very end, despite not having been paid themselves prior to the sacking of Rome.
