It's a nice change to draw Illaoi. She is so unique! The tricky part of this skinline is balancing elegance and the raw strength of Illaoi.
Lessons I learned:
- Low angle camera angles can still be exaggerated more by pushing the foreshortening. (The weapon in this case)
- Braids are hard to draw but Mingchen's PO of aligning them with multiple V shapes first then offsetting the other half made it way easier to understand.

► The price of splashes is under NDA but I recommend searching for Karla Ortiz's art rates to give you an idea.
► A splash takes 4-5 weeks. 1st week for multiple sketches. 2nd week to figure out the colors. 3rd to 5th week to render and polish.
► I paint with the canvas size 8,000 x 4,500 px but it is shrunk down to 7,000 x 3938 for final. Final file is around 800mb.
► This video is 40x speed up. Do the math based on this video's time. Usually, the real time is around 40-80+ hours. (if the other thumbnails were added in). Actual work hours are more than 100+ hrs when you factor in the other thumbnails, research, and contemplating time.
► The toolbar at the left side is called Lazy Nezumi. It helps me get smoother lines and have perspective guides.
► To quickly color a grayscale, I use two methods.
GRAYSCALE COLORING 1ST METHOD:
• Layer on top: The grayscale set to multiply. Brighten it up and colorize depending on the mood you want. This Acts as an AO pass.
• Layer below: Use a solid brush to paint in the flat local colors.
GRAYSCALE COLORING 2ND METHOD: (Messier)
• Layer on top: Set this layer to softlight and add in your colors. This makes it a bit look dull on the highlights so you need to manually fix the highlight colors.
• Layer below: Grayscale here.
► Tip for revisions. You can use liquify on multiple layers. Right after you do it on one layer. You can press Alt+Ctrl+F to apply it again to a different layer. Make sure not to deselect your selection if you are doing this.
► I use color dodge and sometimes linear dodge blending mode to add in lighting layers.
► I group layers using this logic:
1. Post processing
2. VFX, magic
3. Character
4. Some fog
5. Background people, elements, etc
6. Sky and far background
► Here are my tools:
2008-2020:
• Wacom Intuos 3 6″x8″
• Samsung T190
• Intel Core i7 3.50GHz, 16GB RAM, Windows 7
• Photoshop CS6, DAZ 3D, Alchemy
2021:
• XP Pen Artist 24 PRO
• Dell UltraSharp
• AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-Core, 32 GB RAM, Windows 10
• Force Series Gen.4 PCIe MP600 500GB NVMe M.2 SSD (this is important for faster everything)
• Photoshop CC, Daz 3D, Zbrush, Maya
► To open a second window of your artwork in Photoshop it is located in Window - Arrange - New Window.
► To temporarily convert your artwork into grayscale. Go to View - Proof Setup - Custom - Select Dot Gain 20%. Then Press Ctrl + Y to toggle this view.
► I am not going to upload longer or shorter versions of this because that takes too much of my personal time. I'm already giving this away for FREE.
Absolutely stunning :D always love to see how riot artists make their champion splash arts
Thanks! Just want to clarify that I am not a Riot artist. I'm working under West Studio. :)
@@deivcalviz hehe ik it's still super interesting you post them here :>
@@deivcalviz you're not a Riot artist, you're a "Riot artist" ;)
I got faster to watch your video than to study for my test, I love your art, thanks for sharing it with us
Dinner is served yet again. As always, thank you for the meal Deiv!
I always used to love watching the speed paint videos riot would release way back in the day with summoner spotlights, thank you so much for this.
EARLY AND YOUR ART IS ALWAYS BEAUTIFULLY MADE
Finally someone draws some different face other than 100 new chinese themed skin. Almost every new femake skin has the same face and same proportions.
Great work i like your content!
I am in awe. thank you for posting all the notes in the FAQ's below on your workflow. Thank you for sharing

Woooow! This is awesome! Thank u for your work!
I just wanted to say that all your timelapses are very inspiring and motivating to me! I have learned a ton and I always get a boost of motivation while I watch them. Maybe one day I can be this good! ^^ thank you for sharing these!
Esto es increible, recientemente estoy intentando lograr algo con mucho detalles y ver cada uno de estos procesos es una gran ayuda y ver por donde comenzar
Simplemente increible!!
Nice job on this Deiv! Seems like so much chaos to control :)
Just leaving a comment for the stats! I could watch these time lapses with popcorn I swear. Thanks so much!
I enjoy your art and taste in music.
Missed your vids so much!
It's Lunar New Year now, thank u for this!
Happy Lunar New Year!

Holy shhhh. Two in a row. We deserved it. I just finish watching the other one.
Might get busy again soon and disappear again so I'll just dump the backlog XD
@@deivcalviz can't wait to see two more uploads base on your community post. XD
@@vin4216 ;) going the netflix route of releasing the whole season haha
Good choice of songs for the process!
Man you went on Maya to get everything looking right, real mvp!
Stunning and remarkable as always sir!
THIS IS HECKIN AMAZING, I'M IN LOVE WITH THE LEATHER TEXTURE HOW DO YOU APPLY THAT??
Mix of rough brushes and also you can get free leather photos in the net.
WOW
I love this one.
absolutely amazing . I'm your fan. :) About thumbnails. did you make more thumbnails of values in this case, or did you just go ahead with that?
Thanks! Yes I usually make around 5 thumbnails with values. Im not allowed to pose those unfortunately but you can check out artists from riot who regularly posts those.
leon the lobster music 😌
Thank you so much for another splash art timelapse :3 but I'm wondering with the shading layers. After defining all the lighting, do you merge the multiplied greyscale layer with the normal flat layer below? I couldn't keep up with the layers part and it's the step I'm kinda in a conflict with when it comes to putting details.
Yup I merge it and continue painting normally.
@@deivcalviz sorry for late reply but thank you :3 that part was my biggest gripe when starting to colour lol
If I may ask, what do you keep in mind when you’re post-processing the splash, esp when you harmonize the colors (Like how you add that ambient fog and glow to make the character “fit” within the environment)? I tried using airbrush but it usually ends up making the piece look rlly muddy. Tysm!!!
Post is usually to help improve the read of the focal image. Any distracting colors of values should be toned down and the focal areas increased in contrast.
This is extremely helpful. Thank you. One question though, do you think the game art industry will perish because of AI? I just want to know if i have a reason to live or not haha..ha
I dont think the industry will die.. It's just that more people will have access to it. Now, maybe a single person can do his own game by himself + AI.. This will result also in lots of low skill jobs getting cut unfortunately.
Concept and Illustration jobs will still remain though but getting in will be harder since the skill level needed will be a lot higher than what AI can do. That is what I think but who knows!
@@deivcalviz I'm hoping that at the very least it will be like that...I just got accepted into university for a game art course. I wasn't even able to celebrate because I kept worrying, "What if this takes me nowhere? " I'm an international student, so I run the risk of wasting a lot of money and family effort too🥲
The effects you made at 50:10 are very impressive, can you tell me how you did it?
Thanks! It is usually a combination of many layers of linear dodge and/or color dodge depending on what looks better. There are lots of tutorials on how to make fire in photoshop online.. you can try copying those techniques and just change color so it looks like magic. :)
@@deivcalviz ❤
Hey :"з Can I find out how you adjust the color on the layers after plasticizing the line? Please I'm very interested т0т
do you have a specific time in the video? Not sure what you mean
@@deivcalviz 6:41 - 6:43 you edit her back and then adjust the color to match what you edited
I don't know how to say otherwise ,^^
@@DarkMari Ahh Photoshop has a repeat last filter used. It's Ctrl + F and you can repeat the liquify to any layer you select. Just dont do any other filters and dont deselect if you have a lasso.
@@deivcalviz Oh my God, thank you !! Once again I learn something new from you!
How did you know where to put camera level when 3D. I have try that But turns out it's not the same angle with my thumbnail, Thank you.
Dont worry. My 3d is not accurate. Its not properly aligned too. Just lots of trial and error and play around with the lens type as well.
What is the size and resolution of the PSD do you use ?
around 8k pixels wide.. 16:9 ratio
tiene los ojos de mi Lao-Ren XD
SLOW DOWN BRO!
Might get busy again soon and disappear again so I'll just dump the backlog XD
@@deivcalviz You should give us this pleasure every week, not a day! :D
Boss, you draw too fast. Can you explain your drawing process and principles next time?
