    Loved the use if a pencil. I've never thought of using that to highlight black. Blew my mind! DANKE ROMAN!

      I knew about it for the prop making, it gives metallic effects like nothing else, but may be hard to protect. Never even crosed my mind to try it for miniature.

    I love that pencil highlight every time I see it. Crisp and easy edge highlight, damn quick. I use to "feel" like steps like this were a "cheat".
    I've gotten to a place where I've realised that, outside of rigid competition rules, whatever gets you to the end result that you're after is absolutely fine. There's no such thing as a cheat, there's just tools, techniques, and styles. Mix and match as you need, to get the end result you're after.
    You have encouraged me to be braver, for that I thank you.

    It's funny how I prefer the painterly style to super smooth perfectly rendered digital style. Now if I could just get there in 15 minutes! Nice job Roman

    Thank you for the excellent video. I found it very soothing and educational. I particularly liked the closeup shots at the end; They helped my understand the most essential lines and values of the face.     Amazing paintjob for 15 minutes. This made me subscribe. So many little cool tips and tricks in one video.
    Just one question if you'll allow me: Was this a soft pencil? I couldn't spot it well due to it being out of focus.

    never thought to do a rough 'wet sketch' for the base coat like that, love it!
    how do the pencil highlights hold up overtime, do you have to reapply?

      Thanks a lot. Well, I bet due handling miniatures differently from person to person I'd say consider for yourself what your pencil work needs ... varnish or not. Depends on how much you touch them models ...

    Okay let's get the gist of the workflow here...
    * wet blending base colors, James Wappel style, makes sense
    * Pick out key details and apply God-tier painter skills to make them sparkle effortlessly... sigh, makes sense
    * use pencil to throw on easy edge highlights... makes sensWAIT WHAT, A PENCIL??? (watch this section 5 times, mind blown)

      I keep thinking it's some special mini pencil. it is literally a soft HB sketch pencil? I know you have to find the one that works for me but I feel like I need to break out my charcoal pencils now.

      Yes, it was an HB or 2B or an H. These are the ones I got on my table

      Does the shine/highlight still show through once varnished? About to try it today with a mech unit I have.

      @@MarkWidner Give it a try. I do not know. I did not use varnish and I might believe that the results vary on pencil and varnish you use. Experiment your own result is my suggestion.

    The sheer amount of paint you laid down at the beginning is giving me anxiety. I'm not sure I would ever be able to paint quite like that, but I definitely do need to learn to be a little looser with how I approach things.

    Love this Roman, but a bit of feedback - the phone screen kept stealing the camera focus so it made it a touch difficult to watch you paint the miniature. Very cool panitjob eitherway.

    Would you recommend varnishing over the graphite with gaming pieces? Or is it hardier than you would think?

    Very cool Roman, pencil trick is new to me, can I use any standard pencil though, also will it rub off with handling or do you have seal it?

      If its a gaming piece it's good to finish with a varnish as all paints will wear off with continued handling no matter what type you use especially pencil .

    Throw the subscribe edit before you start the Mini next time. You were about 5 seconds into the mini and edited it already. It can really throw people off who are new comers like me! Just a little tip (: this was fun thank you

    Love it. But Please deactivate Auto Focus on your camera and Set the Focus on the Mini.
    A lot of the time only the wet palette is focused 🙈

    I'm curious about the first brown layer when you covered 90% of it by the black after. Does it have something to do with the wet method you use, causing the colors to blend and not be pure brown or black?

    Can I suggest using a camera with a manual focus. It is very annoying to not be able to see the process.

    The end result looks great, but unfortunately the mini is out of focus for almost the entirety of the video so I don't really see the details of what you're actually doing. EDIT: It is definitely better in the second half of the video
