Chris Hedges has become one of my favourite writers and broadcasters on political subjects, especially pertaining to US politics, economics and society. I had the great pleasure of hearing Professor Noam Chomsky be interviewed by David Barsamian at Macky Auditorium in Boulder, some years ago. The discussion was most elucidating, and I have Chomsky's autograph in my Chomsky on Anarchism book, which I shall cherish forever; a great man with a great mind.

Dr Pflanze wrote a three-volume series during the 1930s on the life of Bismarck, since at the time many Germans were saying that the 20th century history was based on Bismarck's actions.

Disagree While Chomsky did achieve a lot in his political activism and through his writing, he still at times serves the establishment he claims to be fighting against.
Chomsky "even if it's true (911 was an inside job) who cares? It's just a distraction"
His take on the climate is a joke, he has literally bought into the corporate sector propoganda on this issue. Electric cars are utter green wash, the pollution involved in producing them and their batteries is FAR worse then normal cars- ofcourse the pollution is all somewhere else, in the mines and the factories, and all the batteries can't be recycled so get landfilled, 80% of all environmental destruction and pollution is coming from corporate business practice and production methods, has nothing to do with CO2 production, the corporate sector has basically found a way by paying climate scientists to produce reports and models, to shift the conversation into a complete fantasy. They are now trading CO2 certificates and carry on ruining the planet while claiming they are actually doing something.
That Chomsky has bought into this joke just shows where he really sits.
The only answer to protect the environment is to force a change in production methods, but the corporate sector isn't interested in paying the actual costs of the damage they do, they prefer you don't shower so much and blame mankind itself, even if every single human being changes their behaviour, it only impact 20% of the problem. Cut all the CO2 you like isn't going to stop spieces extinction when corporations are destroying their habitats by chopping down forests, polluting rivers and strip mining mountains.
"It's ok we ruined the environment but we paid a CO2 certificate"

    • @ghostlyphantasm2352
      @ghostlyphantasm2352 Рік тому +7

      @@jollyyeholiver1578 First off....
Chomsky position on 911 was that there are many many provable crimes of the US government, therefore instead of focusing on those that can't be proven it is better to focus on what can be proven. He actually said - it doesn't matter whether it is true or not, what matters most is that the US has used it to justify wars, and he referred to the fact that THIS was the more honourable focus. He neither officially denounced the theory or supported it really. EDIT - a man in Chomsky's position is well aware that his political positions will be attacked from all angles, taking a position of supporting an unproven event puts his credibility on the line. He just told people he would not discuss it in public debates, his personal feelings on the matter and it's credibility may in fact be different in private.
Second the electric car thing you mentioned - you are scientifically inaccurate on that and your statement shows no proof for your claims only opinion - you are entitled to that. But electric cars do not produce more co2 than normal cars. However, from a scientific point of view current diesel cars are fully capable of running green fuel and being modified and in that case it can offer benefits.
Third, I don't think environment credits was actioned or supported by noam chomsky therefore it cannot be a criticism of him and if it is by explanation then part 2 is so much at fault that part 3 has reduced meaning.
And "Many manufacturers are researching how EV batteries can be repurposed once they've hit retirement age. One idea that's proving to work well is repurposing EV batteries to power homes and buildings. However, there are no definitive answers as to what will happen to EV batteries once they’re no longer recyclable.
The time that batteries spend in an EV is often just the beginning of their useful life. Once removed from a car, most batteries will still be fit for other demanding jobs like energy storage in the electricity network, or in the home - a growing area of demand." - source EDF energy.
But if you want to carry on believing right wing propaganda and refuse to research and investigate such things then you will never know the truth and complications of such things.
Carbon credits are BS, no doubt, and it's idea under any name. If you followed environmentalists of the intelligent kind and not dim wit journalist kind you will quickly find out most groups and individuals who are part of these intelligent groups have been protesting against this for years. Check out juice media from australia as just one example.

    • @jollyyeholiver1578
      @jollyyeholiver1578 Рік тому

@@ghostlyphantasm2352 ok first that is a direct quote I saw Chomsky make.
Second I never mentioned CO2 with regards to electric cars, I was referencing, that the production methods, and mining that goes into creating them causes more environmental damage.
And third Chomsky has completely bought into the nonsense of climate change, as have you. CO2 levels do not lead to increased temperatures, it's reverse, increased temperatures cause more CO2 to be released. The data suggesting otherwise is manipulated.
CO2 is not the issue, it's corporate production methods that are the problem, and the corporate sector knowing environmental groups were gaining power, have used their money to invest in bad science, and have effectively managed to take over organisations like green peace, it's all green wash today.
97% of scientists agree with their funders, best results money can buy. The Tabbaco companies did exactly the same thing with smoking they paid doctors and scientists to do bad research as a means to muddy the waters and spread confusion.
Science is a joke today it's almost completely suffering from Corporate capture.

the fascists got the workers to build a gas chamber so large it has no walls (global warming)
the permafrost started irreversible melt at 400ppm, theirs 1600ppm equivalent of CO2/CH4 in perma frost more than 50% will be melted by 520ppm....(releasing 800ppm in process) so unless we can trap 800ppm co2 in the next few decades we cant stop venus effect & we will be looking at a 2000ppm world, the only debatable factor really is how fast ice melts/how fast we hit that point
the reason we had to stay below 400ppm that everyone conveniently forgot when we blew through it was all the feedback loops that kicked in after 400ppm mean that if we couldnt keep it below 400ppm we definitely couldnt reverse the runaway climate change that comes in a 400ppm+ world
even if you removed all human industry from planet tomorrow wed still hit 2000ppm CO2 over the next century now we have set off loops so talk of carbon neutrality is pointless unless we can start taking 10 or 20 or 30 ppm co2 out of atmosphere every year we cant even keep up with the loops we have already set off

While I quite admire Professor Chomsky for pointing me in the correct direction reflecting my lifelong belief in true egalitarianism & direct + economic democracy. That said, you can't separate the Republican party from the Democrats as some sort of abhorration or unique danger.
The unique danger is the American Bourgeoisie, & their ubiquitous funding of both "wings" of capital. Even those not directly influenced by Bourgeois $, bow to the dictates of party leadership who is. While I agree the hate being pumped into the societal zeitgeist is extremely dangerous, the core issue remains Bourgeois control of means of production, the state, ect.
Trying to fight these individual issues while leaving the root cause in place is like trying to clean up an oil spill without plugging the leak first; which means we'll continue to spin our wheels, slowly moving backwards, until the problem overwhelms even the strongest Proletarian movement.

He can't tho. He can't "wake up to the fact" of anything at this point. He's 94. I understand that he sounds very coherent for someone so old but the ravages of time spare no one. His brain, anyone's brain, is not going to be same anymore at 94. Just as his face could not be expected to have stayed the same from his youth.
In other words it is physically impossible that Noam is still the once brilliant man he once was because of the known science of what happens to the brain in the aging process especially at ages approaching a century.
Unfortunately Noam appears to have experienced a lesser state of brain decay so far. In that he sounds coherent enough so that all of his many, many sycophants will still hang on his every word as if the Oracle of Delphi has spoken. And I say unfortunately because you are right. You're 100% right about the mistake Noam is making. That mistake is likely something we will have to clean up for many years to come amongst his adoring fans who have very little critical thinking skills but great parroting skills.

We need to regulate two instincts. That of being territorial and that of being competitive. Neither should harm either the environment nor each other and that is where they should be capped, on a global scale ! What a catch 22!

All hunter gatherer societies compel cooperation and sharing. Because they need it to survive. And i believe humans have some egalitarian tendencies, as other primates do.
But in capitalism, to survive you have to compete with others for a job. And whoever is most loyal, exploitable, and/or useful in furthering their owners' capital wins, so ofc ppl will be competitive in that environment

Overthrowing systems is not easy, violence has to be used, it fails many times, and you get a lot of negative publicity. With the current political climate in the US , leftist forces must join the political arena with Democrats if we even have a chance of making the Democrats move even more towards our position.
Current example. Cornel West's campaign, as it is now, I support. But when the rubber meets the road (General Election) I have no choice but to go for the Democrats. I believe it would be a bad idea if he were to stay in the race until the end.

Add to that like for example US involvement in the world and the US props up disproportionate power in places like Ukraine. After the occupation of the square in Kiev the US could have backed the pro democracy groups in Ukraine, but it's easier to just prop up the NeoNazis in Ukraine and far right nationalists who are a minority of the population. This causes war and conflict too which the MIC makes money from. And then also this whole Ukraine thing is a way by which the US can wage an economic war against Europe.
