He didn’t just win with Gief.
He won with Gief against JP, his worst matchup (edit: apparently it's Sim but point still stands) and arguably the worst matchup in the whole game.
Snake Eyez is an inspiration.
JP vs gief is doable. Just need 2 or 3 combos. SF4 was much worse for gief.

I think the new mechanic really helps Gief out. In sfv he'd already have lost 1/3 or more of his health chip damage from blocking or gray health from vskill armor by the times he's able to get in from all the zoning.
This isn't just a set, it's a whole life lesson
Right? A lesson on being patient. 99 seconds is a long ass time. And no matter how much time and effort it took to get in on JP, the round never ended by timeout. And there's definitely a life lesson in that.

This is the best Zangief player of all time. He's been a top player for this character in SF4/SFV/SF6 and won Evo for SF2.
People who do not play SF6. Have NO IDEA how hard it is to beat a good JP with Zangief. But, Snake Eyez made it look easy.
I only played the two CBTs and even I know how hard it is to beat JP. The recent tournaments showed how tough it is to deal with his zoning game. Snake is just on a whole different level. Other Giefs would most likely be blown away.

I think Guile and Luke are harder for Zangief than JP

I remember first seeing him make a statement with orange pants Gief in ST HD Remix, he won EVO 2010 for that. I think he preferred ST, but then learned SF4 because of the competitive direction.

This fight taught me the importance of staying neutral and holding your ground. Keeping that pressure on. As a chun player I back myself into a corner a lot.
I do the same with Ryu. A lot of matches end early too. I’m not keeping in mind there’s 90 seconds.

the REAL low tier god, that was absolutely incredible play by snake eyez, i clearly need to learn to be more patient.
It's gonna be a good Capcom cup. Snake Eyes had some great matches to spectate back in the SF4 era. I stopped following competitive during 5 but I think I'm back.
Snake Eyez is hands down the best Zangief. He has the perfect range for every move, he has such a mental fortitude. Hardly countered so he make that buffed HP works. So much attention to detail.
Yes, Reynald lost his composure and made many mistakes and questionable choices, but it goes to show how SE Gief gets in your head.
You know you have a great fighting game when someone wins a tournament with a supposedly F-tier character against his worst matchup that happens to be a top tier one . Glad I jumped on the SF6 wagon early , this game will keep on giving for years to come 🤩

Congrats to Snake Eyez 👏👍. I mean, holy F, I played a bit of Gief (got Platinum 4 rank) and the matchup against JP is just so frickin hard to the point it feels like 7-3 mu. But Snake Eyez played veryyyyy patience and proof that nothing is impossible. Anyway. With Gief won CPT US and Kim and Ryu won World Warrior JPN and Germany, Capcom Cup X definitely will be really interesting to watch.
Exactly. Gief players know how hard this is, yet non-Gief players like to lecture that it's "doable". I'm platinum 4 too.
As a diamond gief, it is certainly a tough matchup, but don't use that as an excuse, use that as a reason to spd jp even harder, best of luck comrades

Not an excuse no, the match up is still fun, especially when you bag a win. Just saying it's in JP favour - because Gief cannot afford to burnout and lose parry, whereas playing an opponent in burnout is no different to usual for Gief.
@@lukeblaker8009 I never say it's an excuse. But it's a clear fact for Gief that he needs to work super hard to beat JP. And btw, i have four characters at Diamond (Ryu at Diamond 2, Lily-Marisa-Luke at Diamond 1) so i know how hard the matchup against JP with other characters as well.

I watched Snakes evolution gameplay with SF6 Geif and he has become an absolute monster.
As a Gief main True Gief inspiration really makes you slow the game down in your head and analyze each opponent, everyone talks about our hugs but looks at JPs kit lol straight zoning
By no means does this mean zangief is a good character. It just means snake eyez is a top tier player and knows the matchup. At this point it's not about knowing the zangief matchup, it's about knowing the snake eyez matchup

The funniest thing about this advent is that, for a variety of reasons that I won't elaborate, this is the only Gief player who even had a _chance_ of making it into Capcom Cup. And he pulled it off.

One way I can tell 100 percent its the real Snake eyes is the way he plays on low HP as an ultimate bait vs zoners definitely a vintage tactic from him!

@@GamingCentralTV1 Only Gief's EX- Lariat should hit people from behind. He should have to pay with meter in order to anti-air that effectively. Forget the extra move and keep the damage. That makes every match with Zangief nerve-wracking, and that is the way it should be.
Maybe instead of calling for nerfs focus up and improve like Snake Eyez. We not getting a balance patch for a whiiiile, and fortunately the game is in a state where anyone could win and the most represented character Ken is also just the most popular character
Snake is also a pro player, and yeah it was a hard thing to do, but that only talks of the caliber of player snake is and grief is in desperate form to get some buffs.
@@Amaling snake eyez is in the top top top percentage of fgc players who also so happens to play a low tier character. there are few characters in the game that can carry a new to mid level player much further than the rest, one of those being jp. to say the average player needs to focus up is dodging the fact that jp does need nerfs of some kind, as does the other top 4 or 5 characters. if you play any fighting game, its a given that you would try to get better at it despite the obvious disparity in character balance. you cant tell everyone to ignore the glaring issues of certain characters and to simply get good like the pros.
I feel like people going "Zangief doesn't need a buff, just look at Snake Eyez" forget that Snake Eyez has historically always been a Zangief player. He was famous for it in 4, famous for it in 5, and is hella famous for it in 6. He can't be used asa reference; he was going to find a way to make Zangief work no matter what and if the expectation is that players just commit the same time and effort to achieve similar results, that is simply unrealistic.
Zangief needs buffs.
I wouldn't say it's the weakest he's ever been, but you FEEL the absence of Green Hand and Flex Parry.
11:03 crazy how fast things fell apart for Reynald after this point. it would be hard to confirm that single jab into Stribog into CA, but he coulda won 3-1 right there. then he missed Lovushka input in the next round and Snake steamrolled and Reynald looked stiff in the second set. Very well played by Snake Eyez though, he clearly deserved the win

Proud of Snake Eyez. You always gain more respect with a player you main for years. Pro players that switch their mains depending on the strength of the character, have no soul. The measure of a great player is if he can win tournaments with weak characters. You see how good Snake Eyez is at Street Fighter.

@@quarium5681 I don't care who players pick. It's up to them. But when you pick JP, Ken, Luke, Guile, or Juri, YOU HAVE TO WIN YOUR MATCHUP. No excuses. You can't say you are at a disadvantage. When a player picks the worst character (generally speaking) in the game, and wins a major tournament, he gets ULTIMATE respect. When you win a tournament with one of those 5 that I mentioned, you are a good player, but you SHOULD win. Reynald should be embarrassed for getting 3-0d in that second set. I don't care that it was Snake Eyez on the other side.

Even as a grappler player, gotta respect Reynald's tricky approaches. Good on him for recognizing and conditioning Snake to never expect an approach and pull it out to win a few rounds.
Off meta characters tend to win with lack of MU knowledge so props to him for the confidence and playing a smart game (especially in a GF match). Even though it ended in a reverse 3-0, fantastic game by both players.
Loved watching SnakeEyez since I started playing SSF4AE on Steam. He still continues to impress.
I'm noticing something about this game, well in general but mainly this game, what splits apart good players is how you play in long sets, try to play people in FT10s or above and you'll see most people just can't but they'll beat you in a FT2 FT3 with no problems, it's like they're scared of being downloaded...and then you have gdlk players they'll just smoke you in a FT20 FT30 lol

Sorry but its not about abusing characters, those you mentioned are easy to play. The problem is that people don't want to struggle to play the game, and that's what playing with zangief awful tools is, struggling all the time.
