- We're a quarter of the way through the NHL season so it's time for DZ, Luca, Corwin and Jesse to discuss one of their favourite topics... Frauds!

As a Canucks fan, never believed that they were Stanley Cup contenders. Just want to make it to the playoffs, at least!! Anything beyond that is a treat.

Which is completely fair to be realistic. You don’t go from missing the playoffs for three years straight to upper echelon contender status.
As a Canucks fan that isn’t a cup winning roster. That being said, I think they’ve exceeded most peoples expectations

- Leafs and Oilers as playoff teams via finishes in top-3 divisional spots
- Canucks, Jets and Sens as potential playoff teams
- Flames and Habs as non-playoff teams but with the Flames likely to finish better than the Habs
With December already underway I see the:
- Canucks as a playoff team
- remaining Canadian teams as potential playoff teams although that may change should a point come this season during which ANY such team falls 10 or more points out of a playoff spot (the Sens already 8 out going into games whose scheduled start times are Monday Eastern Time)
Demko is proving that he is an elite tender. And with the firepower they have, I don't think it would be a surprise if they advanced a couple rounds in the playoffs. They have a stud D-man, plenty of scoring, a game-cahnger goalie. Don't get me wrong, I hate the Canucks, but it wouldn't surprise me if they have moderate to high post-season success.

it is wild. They have proven themselves against so many good teams such as the stars canucks and avs, its not like thye are just beating bad teams.
Devils were missing Jack and Nico for a bit there and are currently missing Meier, Hamilton and Haula. They just need to heal up and find ways to not get hurt somehow and I think they will be alright. Mercer has looked a lot better as of late

I mean thats part of the problem, the depth is an issue as well as the goaltending and defense. I wouldnt call them frauds necessarily because they just havent been good this year, but you'd like to see better from them in every aspect. I also think they just dont know know what a fraud means, the meaning changed every other minute.

I was at the game this week sitting behind the net when Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made that save, we were out our seats full goal roar that was unreal
Demko has in fact been great for years. He was injured last year and still good when he returned. When on top of his game he is a top 5-7 goalie.

How are we just glossing over the fact that the Devils have been a walking infirmary so far this year? Hischier missed a month, Jack missed a couple weeks, Meier has missed nearly three weeks, and now Haula and Hamilton are missing time... The fact the Devils are just outside of a playoff spot given the injuries they have sustained is a borderline miracle. As for Vanecek, he has been an unmitigated disaster, but Schmid is the better goalie and appears to have control of the crease going forward. Just judging off of standings, I understand the argument, but context is important.
They also mention Dawson Mercer's slow start, which is true 0 points through the first 10 games, but now he's up to 9 points in the last 11 games.

In my opinion fraud is a team that got off to a great start that you expect to come back down to earth the final 3/4 of the season
The criteria shouldve been either that or just simply whether or not the team lived up to preseason expectations. Dont think it ruins the video but absolutely made it harder to follow the conversation

Luka isnt wrong (coming from a canucks fan), they've slacked on their system execution and the forecheck isnt as consitant as it was to start the year, the success rate of the dump & chase is dropping. injuries to Suter and Scoucy are big hits, and have really shaken up the structure.
Adding Zadorov is fantastic but they need to tighten up on passing and shot selection as well as defensive breakdowns. The top 6 needs to start producing at a consistent rate, and visually need to not be outworked by the bottom 6 (namely Höglander, Garland, Joshua, Lafferty) who have been great pace wise.
Team still has a long way to go and the games against the Avs, Vegas, and even the Sharks are clear indicators of that.

he made some points but they have had lots of injuries on D and have played average of late. still 4 of the leagues top scorers, one of the best d pairings in the league and 1 of the best goalies. to say this team is not good is crazy. but then again they said vegas and NJ were frauds while giving the oilers a pass.

Talked about the devils struggles didn’t mention Hischier missing 12 games, Jack missing several games, timo missing games. Now Dougie is out.. many many injuries to key role players have also affected them.
The goaltending has been poor I won’t discredit that point.

Because their defense and goaltending have been struggling since the start of the season and it’s been costing them games. They went 3-2-1 to open up their season with a healthy roster and let up 23 goals in that span and the first goal in all six. Their struggles are way more than just injuries.
It’s still too early to assess how goalies are doing. Some backups do face easier matchups as the starters take on the stronger opponents. However, I think the biggest distinction between the best goalies and average are when the best are off their games, they are still somewhat reliable. They aren’t liabilities like the average goalies, which destroy a team when soft goals are let up.
Here in central NC we have 1 useable outdoor roller rink and 1 in very bad condition. The hood one hosts pickle ball throughout the week 😫. I don’t have a whole lot against pickle ball. But I agree. Can this not be played in any other open area? Not in the rink?
I don’t hate the current Jets logo or jerseys. Clean, simple and pretty cool. Heritage is better but like the Canucks, just use them as thirds and enjoy them on occasion.
The only team that really NEEDS to go back to their old jerseys are the Ducks.

4.4 million cap hit, and this is the last year of his deal.
So... If the Canucks want to keep him (and why not), they have about 6 months to figure that out.
He's an RFA, so thankfully shouldn't an issue so long as they have the cap space (which they should once Myers is off the books).
The Panthers are for real….we had three major injuries , Bennett and our top two defensemen, everyone is back, we are healthy, Bobrovsky is playing quality goaltending and Stolarz in replacement has been stellar. And we just finished the Canadian trip and got 5 out of 6 points between the Sens, Leafs and Habs.
We have depth and also we got grittier and tougher and even bigger….i can’t see Leafs matching well against us in the playoffs, and we can say a lot about the Caps, Devils and Wings. In the Eastern I thinks the only true contenders are the Panthers and Rangers and that’s going to boil down to goaltending in the playoffs. Good luck leaf fans and I think they need to rethink their approach, nothing you guys don’t already know, things are not working with the core 4 as needed. One pleasant surprise is Woll and you guys possibly having a legit number one goaltender for the next decade of he keeps playing the way he has. Leafs lose that game this week to us if it’s not for him.

I know the devil's been pretty mid but they lost he sure and Hughes at the same time. Specifically during the stretch without both is when they lost seven of eight. They definitely need to pick it up but I feel like calling them frauds is a bit much

As a huge Seattle Kraken fan, I agree that they really aren't living up to their potential. It feels like there's something going on with the Kraken. Now, I wouldn't call them frauds but I do appreciate that it was only a brief mention.

As a VGK fan I love our tandem but our defense plays a major role in that and makes it easier for the goaltenders. Wouldn’t say we have the best tandem though. Best defense? No doubt about it we’re the best IMO
@@Adi_1922maybe that is true in Thompson’s case but you can’t say Hill hasn’t stood on his head when the defense is playing sloppy and the team is turning the puck over on 50 percent of their passes.

I will say the devils have had some injury problems early on. It's not easy to win with your top 2 centers injured. Hischier, Jack, meier, and now dougie.

Strongly disagree with Corwin about the West being better now.
The West has some of the top teams in the league (Colorado, Dallas, Vegas, LA) but also a lot of weak teams (San Jose, Anaheim, Chicago). It’s very much a feast or famine conference.
The East is a lot more closely packed together. You have top teams like NYR, Boston and Florida, but the gap is much smaller to the middle and bottom teams.
Like Montreal (14th in the east) to Florida (3rd in the east) is only 8 points, while the same gap from 14th-3rd in the west (Anaheim-Vancouver) is 13 points.
Hell, even Ottawa (last in the East) only has played 17 games for some reason and have as many as 7 games in hand on teams above them.
It was hilarious at one point seeing Vegas, Vancouver, LA as the top teams in the west and top 5 in the league, and then seeing how far back the rest of the division was

Also, I'm biased, as a Caps fan. It's not our jerseys that are ugly. It's that logo that brings the whole thing down. A better logo on that template would be fine (it looks better, for example, with South Carolina's logo).

Best hockey podcast
Quick and shesterkin are 5th and 7th on goals saved over expected. I dont know if Shesty needs to be called out for that and its a difference of 0.3. Shesty isnt peforming at his Hart level from a couple seasons ago, but hes still one of the best in the league right now. Just happens that Quick decided to become the greatest backup ever at the same time.

-If Edmonton didn't have Mcdavid/Draisaitl they arnt a good enough team on defence and goalie and depth forwards
- canucks if play a hard team 1st round like Vegas,LA,Seattle ect they could be a upset team

canucks had a great start because it was drilled in to have a good start. Lots of confidence beating the oilers twice, and fair enough we've had a lot of easy opponents. That being said, we've played the most hockey in the league so far and had multiple back to backs already. Also lost Carson Soucy and Pius Suter who were playing awesome. Petey has been slumping a bit too, Miller has been on and off. Still not cup contenders but for the city of Van it has to be playoffs this year, a tough 1st round likely playing LA or VGK!
There's 5 teams that have played the same amount of games or more.
As an Avs fan, if the Avs don’t win the Cup, I also want the Stars to win. 1) I live in Dallas and want to go to the parade and 2) I really want Pavelski, Heiskanen and Robo to win it.
It’s not easy to pick a fraud among Canadian teams. That said, I have never seen the Leafs as Cup contenders in recent years considering a flawed roster but didn’t think the Oilers would start their season so badly. Whether this season they’ll come anywhere near a playoff spot is very much a question.

All the underlying stats and analytics show that thr Oilers were playing way better than their record. It was pretty much a case of everything that could go wrong, went wrong.
@@johanstinson The Leafs are in a playoff spot but barely while the Oilers are still out. The Sens this week have the potential to earn as many as 6 points, with home games against the Rangers and Leafs followed by a road game against the Wings.
The Oilers this week play 2 games, with respective Wednesday and Friday Eastern Time ones against the Canes and Wild at Rogers Place as part of a 5-game homestand. It'll be interesting where the Canadian teams, by the end of all games that started by Saturday ET, will be in the standings but on points the:
- Canucks have 33 (66.0 points % rounded to the nearest 0.1 percentage point)
- Leafs and Jets, 28 each (respective 63.6 and 60.9 P%s)
- Flames and Habs, 23 each (47.9 P%s for each team but with respective 7 and 4 regulation wins)
- Oilers, 19 (43.2 P%)
- Sens, 18 (47.4 P%)
Jets are 12-8-2 with 26 points and they're humming and so good

Luca is being delusional on Vegas. Adin Hill is the best goalie right now and the stretch was because of lack of goals, the defense were extremely strong. LA is not as good as people think.
The Kings are not "obviously the best team in the Pacific". That would be self evident if LA played every game on the road, but they can't seem to figure out how to hockey on home ice...where they've gone nhl .500.
Hronek, who recently turned 26, is an RFA after this season...and yes he will get paid. In fact, he may well get overpaid given the overachievement of the Vancouver Canucks at the start of the season. No that's not a poke at Filip Hronek...who I'm a huge fan of. If anything it's a poke at the clown show in Edmonton and San Jose. The Canucks were scoring at will against those teams early on and it puffed up a bunch of guys' numbers.

As to "pissing on the Oilers and Sharks", I suggest you re-read what I typed. Edmonton is most definitely a circus this year and the Sharks were...and still may, set a record for the worst season in NHL history. I think Grier wildly underestimated just how bad the Sharks would be this season.
Edit: LOL Just went back and checked. The Canucks are +32 goals against the Oilers and Sharks this season...in six games! Even though they're +31 total. Yeah, guys like EP40 and Hronek are going to get paid because of the gaffs by Edmonton and San Jose management.
Kings have won 3 of their last 4 home games so not quite sure what you’re talking about

To be honest I think the Leafs being a WC team might be the best thing for them. Get away from the Tampa Boston Florida ghost and play a metro team. Granted i agree with you guys saying they've underperformed this year (only five regulation wins same as San Jose? COME ON) I think it would be interesting to see what happens if the Leafs are in the opposite bracket and not playing their rivals till the CFs. IMO because its the effing Leafs lose in round 1 game 7 OT to the rangers after coughing up a 3-1 lead both in the series and in the game

Devils defense has been pretty bad and goalies are atrocious. But they are just having alot of health problems. When they were completely healthy in the beginning of the season they were in second of the metro 1 game behind the rangers. Then they got hurt lost nico and jack Meier Hamilton haula for a significant amount of games. So it's unfortunate but I don't blame them for where they are....I think they'll go on a run

The amount of disrespect that cam talbot faces is crazy. dude holds the record for most wins in a season for edmonton. he was in the all star game in 2022. if he has a semi decent team in front of him. you will win games. honestly one of the craziest NHL stories too, guy went to Alabama Huntsville for college hockey.
He is from my small hometown and worked at our local grocery store. He is the man and always happy to see him do well and to see people praise him

How can the Leafs be frauds when their goalie right now is a rookie and the old starter now backup is a toss away from Washington? As a Flames fan, sure we didn't get off to a great start to the season at all. But they are playing way better. To say the Flames are the team you'd least like to cheer for and are in such a bad place is absolutely wrong. Edmonton- 2 best players in the world (as some might say), bottom 5 team. Toronto- literally only has cap space because half of their roster is on the IR. Those 2 teams are in way worse shape and i'd hate to be a fan.
Corwin is so wrong about the west being the best. The metro is the best division in hockey rn all but one team has above a point per game pace. Only 8 teams in the west have above a point per game pace. The west is a cake walk rn and it has been for a few years
It’s the devils they are the biggest letdown of the season for me! They signed Meier which I am a fan of and I liked the signing , but it’s been a huge letdown of the season! They didn’t sign one of severson or graves and they bring a defensive dynamic that other players this season on the team don’t! The goaltending has been atrocious! Both being in the 40s in rank of goals allowed with both being over rheee won’t win many games o don’t care of they score a lot! You are asking this offensive to have to score at least three a night to even have a chance of winning and as great as their offense is! It just isn’t feasible for that to happens! And they have been bitten by the injuring this season with Hughes, haula, Meier, hischier and Hamilton missing time so far! Don’t be surprised if they don’t make the playoffs
