Tim Hortons is Not Canadian-owned anymore*, donuts are not fresh, but trucked in. Trudeau got a pre-order discount, the donut shop uses local ingredients, all recyclable materials In its packaging and pays above minimum-wage. Tim Hortons does not and even has a reputation for taking away peoples breaks and shutting the store down over a $.10 wage raise in that area.

Canadian here. This wasn't a controversy. A couple of conservatives tweeted about it and then it was reported on by conservative news outlets. No one thinks not going to Timmie's is bad.

Having Worked at Tim Hortons I can tell u firsthand that the food there isn't edible nor should be labelled real doughnuts. Basically it gets shipped to the store in cardboard boxes....and piled in a freezer. And people go into this freezer bare handed without washing their hands (the door handle is dirty, everything is dirty), peel the tape off the boxes getting tape on their hands...and fingering the premade frozen doughnuts while freezing their fingers/balls/ears/face/skin off cause there's likely a giant fan blowing and no way to turn it off. If they fall on the ground....they aren't thrown out. Often this freezer is like a shed outside the store so u bring them from there out into a gasoline filled street that they might fall onto as well....and finally into the store. I'd be surprised if a bird hasn't pissed or shat and it hasn't fallen straight onto the dougnuts u bring uncovered back into the store. Theres deff tons of spiders and cigarette and gasoline smoke out there.
U bring it inside....toss it on a tray that was sitting on the tiled flooring that is visibly coated in dirt....grab the tray that isn't cleaned between uses...put it in an oven from the 1970's for 1 minute to warm it up..or put it in the top oven whose dial is often set to the wrong temperature and has a tiny little white speck showing what temp its on....which is often hidden due to sugar or dirt or has multiple while smudges and set to the wrong temp so u can unknowingly cook at the wrong temp......and then its transferred to the tray at the front or its coated in this sugar splooge that comes from milk bags....that looks and feels and smells like semen. And there is no space in that tiny friggin store, so often things fall where they shouldnt or get stacked where they shouldn't.....there are trays to store them that are literally 5cm off this dirty filthy ground. And most people when something falls on this ground...just pick it up and sell it all the same. And yes there are security cameras all over the damn place, and the managers are the ones teaching u to cook this way.
Often people are selling items that aren't even cooked. Often people are selling items have fallen on the ground, that have been prepared without washing their hands. And that chocolate or maple icing on top? People with their bare hands grab the dougnut and smudge it in this sauce and then have to manually smear it on the dougnut with their bare hands.....and most of the lick their fucking fingers while doing it. SO u get saliva....dirty hands...dirty floors...dirty pans...and dirty boxes that infect ur food before it even gets to ur mouth. Also when people throw out the garbage they dont wash their hands after....and anytime u touch that garbage ur hands willl REEEEEK OF TRASH. So when they grab ur doughnut and give it to u...their hands are likely garbage hands, and that smell DOES TRANSFER OVER that's how pungent it is!
In other words: enjoy ur fucking American owned doughnuts u Canadian right wing morons. Most of the customers are construction workers who don't care either way. I sympatheize with construction workers...they are so dirty from the job and their hands so dirty that they understandably dont care. But for other people bringing it home and elsewhere...itrs gross. Almost everyone uses the drivethrough on their trucks.....and the gas emissions and cigarette smells get in the store on the food.
Oh and when things are 'cleaned' we used brown water to clean them....I'm not even joking, we were not allowed to drain the water when it got dirty cause the hot water tank was so small. So we would clean in water so brown and thick u couldn't see past the surface. And then dip in sanitzer solution....for 1 seconds and then 'occasionally' rinse some of the sanitzer off....occasionally cause there was no space and no time. SAnitzer needs 30 seconds to work...not 1 second...and ur likely eating something prepared on a plate that was sanitzed for 1 second and not washed off afterwards. SO enjoy ur "cost efficient" doughnuts owned by an american conglomerate that overworks and underpays its employees and doesn't even offer benefits till 6 months fulltime on the job. The store didn't even carry bandaids or disinfectant and the oven mitts were so worn out that u would burn the tips of ur fingers on the tray if u held it for too long.....and there was no space or time to make space so u'd often do exactly that while trying to find some kind of surface that wasn't the floor to lay it on. I'm pretty sure everyone else just used the floor...
