Owner Tamiko decided to downsize her home after tragically losing her husband. With her kids grown up, she no longer needed the space and the opportunity opened up for her to build a laneway house on the Vancouver (BC) property of her mother, brining the family closer together.
Find out more about this tiny house and others on our website: www.livingbiginatinyhouse.com...
The house, designed by Tamiko’s brother-in-law, architect incorporates elements of wabi-sabi (the world view of acceptance of imperfection) and Japanese design, drawing from Tamiko’s Japanese heritage. The home was designed and built with a lot of love and attention to detail creating a very special place for her to call home and begin a new life.
I hope you enjoy the full video tour of this very special home.

I’m scared Bryce is a vampire - we always have to wait for him to ask to be invited in ;)

Not only is this architecturally awesome, but the footprint is just right too. Something of this size is probably compatible with more people than a really tiny house on a trailer.

If this is tiny, then from now I'm declaring myself a microorganism.

The most adorable feature actually is seeing she live next to her mother and enjoy the garden together..

Love that she has her mother near by after losing her husband, and that her brother in law helped her design this wonderful home for her!

Her brother-in-law is a great architect. That home is a piece of art.

If you think that house is tiny, you haven't stayed at a house in England.

Between the loss of her husband, friend, and her kids leaving the nest, it sounds like she's had to endure a lot of seismic shifts in rapid succession, yet her warm and welcoming demeanor have remained strong. Wonderful to see her thriving in a space that I hope has brought a renewed sense of consistency to her life.

I love how she credited the Architect, interior designer and contractor for their hard work, such a lovely humble sweet woman...i dont usually see a lot of them doing this in real life. I am a huge fan of this channel and would request Bryce to mention the architect and design team atleast once, even as written text, cause even though the client initiates the idea and funds this, the houses are design team’s child, when we appreciate beautiful architecture who should also appreciate the hands that raised them, a little motivation & appreciation goes a long way.

I really enjoy all these episodes but THIS one had so much more meaning to it for me. She talked about her grief and transitioning from the home she shared with her late husband, and the way she expressed what was important to her in her living space was quite personal. Plus, the way the home was connected to her mom’s house was so special. 👏🏾👏🏾❣️

Bryce not only created a show that pleases his audience, it’s an adventure for him as well. I never get tired of seeing these tiny houses. More importantly, the story that goes along with each one. You feel like you’re actually meeting these people yourself. The imagination and creativity that goes into each one is what really draws me in. It’s no wonder there are over 4 million viewers. I’m hooked.

This episode was so meaningful. I just lost my Mom whom I took care of by myself for 11 years. We lived together. Then lost 2 of my best friends....all within 3 months of eachother. I can honestly say....I truly was able to feel her grief when she spoke. What a beautiful lady...such a lovely home and gracious story. Thank you for sharing your journey with us. Namaste

Awww, it's zen and cozy at the same time! A tricky combo to pull off. I'd live here in a heartbeat (especially with heated floors)

How wonderful that Vancouver allowed the little house to be built behind the main house. This is what is needed for people to look after their elders in their waning years. Every city and municipality needs to allow this--garage conversions and new construction. So innovative. So necessary!

"I'm not the gardener, my mother is. I just cut the checks." LOL - I wish I had someone to cut the checks for my gardening habit! Gorgeous home, made with love.
