this guy is a legit speed demon, LSU had probably the fastest and second best defense in the nation, and he torched them, this game really affirmed his quickness, and agility, he's not as fast as Deanthony Thomas in terms of straight line speed in fact i'd reason he's not a top 10 guy in straight away speed, but he is incredibly explosive and agile, and it makes him so much more of a threat for any defense, you can contain speed, but when it's mixed with agility and explosion, you have a big problem

Tavon owned Matthieu in this game. Something I'm going to be seeing twice a year.

I live in the Cali but grew up in Florida so I watch SEC and Oregon and USC kinda get the best of both worlds.Last year I thought there was no way LSU would beat Oregon I just thought the speed and pace of Oregon was too much. The way Oregon recruits is pretty special. The only recruit linemen that are agile bcuz they run lots of zone plays and they pull there linemen frequently during games. LSU man handled that Oregon Line and thats all I needed to see to be convinced they have the #1 Defense

I give props to LSU for playing WVU and Oregon in the preseason.SEC for years have been criticized for not playing preseason games against the top teams in the country bcuz the home field advantage down south is too good to leave.LSU shut down the Oregon's Running Game no other team in the country during the Chip Kelly Era can say they did that. They made Oregon one dimensional and Oregon doesnt have the greatest receivers that why they won. Oregon probably has the best offense in the country

so to hold them to 27 on a neutral field is very good.Plus they scored a TD in the last minute of the game with LSU back ups in the game. There's no way to prepare for the Chip Kelly Oregon Offensive pace, It's like no other offense/pace in the country WVU did expose the LSU secondary some of that was because LSU had never faced that type of spread passing offense in the SEC, no excuse but they did win soundly. Bama's D is good bcuz Saban is a perfectionist. LSU simply has a little more talent

I was still impressed with how WV played. What other Big East team "AT the time" would even be able to come close to hanging with LSU

also Cal held OU's offense to 12pts in 2010. you're right OU's and WVU's offense is tough to stop, but there is a formula for it. Good front 7 play, and Bama had the best in front 7 in the country. the stats indicate Bama was more consistent in all phases of their defense. youre right Lsu had is extremely talented, but Bama's defense played better consistently. I grade skill by consistency, but it's you grade it by talent and ceiling that's fair.

their comfort zone. So yea they gave up 400+ yards passing but WVU threw it almost 60 times I think.Tavon Austin probably had half of those yards almost.Bama held Arkansas to 207 passing but they're conference opponents who are quite familiar with each other.Plus Arkansas is more of a balanced team like USC.Arkansas had great wideouts but they also had a nice O Line with good running backs.Arkansas doesnt run a lot of 4 and 5 wideout receiver sets which allowed Alabama to stay in their base

  • @joinerSUjagsbluengol
    @joinerSUjagsbluengol 12 років тому

the reason i refrain from that is because talent and ceiling can be misleading, especially when the most talented secondary(Lsu's) can give up 400+ yards in the air. arkansas passed for 185 yards against bama and had 226 total yards and passed for 207 yards against lsu and 254 total yards. that was the best Common opponent offense that they each faced last year. Arkansa also is a Spread pass style and Bama held them to less yards.

You have a lot of exceptional points, LSU does have a more talented secondary and more depth in the secondary , and they did man handle Oregon's Oline. I may be wrong, but Auburn did the same thing in the championship game the year before, and Ohio State did it in the Rose bowl as well. Teams with athletic Dlines can usually slow OU down.(USC certainly did last year), Dont you think bama has better LBs? their Dlines are very close in skill with Bama having an edge.

WVU offense is ran by their head coach Brady Holmgren who when at Oklahoma State a few years ago ran a spread passing attack that gave the top 2 defenses in the Big 12 Texas and Oklahoma plenty of fits. This offense is works particularly well against aggressive defenses like LSU bcuz there 4 and 5 wide receiver sets make LSU get out of there base defense 4-3 which is there best package as far as getting all the talent from each position on the field at the same time and makes they play out of

You have some very good points, and i may be wrong, but i think Bama has the better defense because LSU gave up 27 points to Oregon a very strong offensive team, but a team they had a summer to prepare for also oregon had 4TO's. They gave up 21pts to WVU and 463 passing yards, bama gave up over 20pts once in a game against a georgia southern(they let a lot of backups play), Bama played better consistently, and have just as much talent if you look at their secondary/defense. good points

My thoughts exactly, they played hard the whole game.

Hard to tell bcuz Bama schedule was weak compared to LSU.LSU probably had to the hardest schedule in the nation that's why many felt if LSU lost in a close game in the championship they shouldve split the title. So yea Bama had better D stats but if they played Oregon and WVU who knows.Bama and LSU are kindve of mirror images of each other.Bama has better offense scheme and talent on O.LSu has very old school approach on O but LSU Defense has NFL players,Bama D is just coached great by Saban

the run and then Oregon will hit you with play action.Bcuz LSU has speedy linebackers they were playing the Rex Ryan defense basically leaving their Corners on islands and allowing the front 7 to focus on the run. Bama I think wouldve struggled with the Oregon frenetic pace and although they're more disciplined on Defense bcuz of Saban ultimately that might have been too much speed for them, they still would've won bcuz of trent richardson and their O line but game wouldve been close

Bowl games you have so much time to prepare so your not really going to see a team come out and dominant in one aspect of the game unless they're superior to the other team.Example 2004 USC vs Oklahoma. LSU normally has better DB's than bama although Bama might produce better safeties under Saban.Linebackers definetly goes to Bama but D line probably slight edge to LSU and I mean real slight. Bama doesnt really have any weaknesses but their strength is their weakness. Their linebackers are big

LSU had the best defense by far yea I said it!!!!!Alabama had the 2nd best. Alabama's offense is just way better than LSU.In large part because LSU is stuck in the 80s with their White Boy Passing QB/ and Black Guy option QB.Bama shoulda smacked LSU the 1st time they played last year, I think their kicker missed 4 or 5 FG's. Bama will always be better as long as they have Saban. But defense LSU had about 7db's who went pro last year or are going pro this year or next year.

and physical but arent fast and they arent great covering in the passing game.Oregon would've done better against Bama rather LSU because LSU strength is that their very fast and their linebackers can run sideline to sideline which is normally what Oregon thrives on is that their athletic O line along with their frenetic pace and speedy tail backs can beat the other teams linebackers sideline to sideline when they run the ball.If the other team has bad linebackers their safeties cheat up to stop

WVU's uniform selection (all yellow against a team in yellow pants) is pitiful
