This is so inspiring. Totally gorgeous sonically, but also the UI/UX. I so badly need to find an Arc. One of my favorite applications of Monome gear I have seen to date.👏
One of the few videos that really truly sells the norns hardware. A lot of stuff I see looks cool but usually is just controlling some ultra boring modular setup and just bleep bloops. This is absolutely compositional and beautiful. Soundtrack scoring level.
this is amazing!!! Feels very different from most of the applications I've seen for these devices. I appreciate the opportunity to see another side of them
Very nice work and quite inspiring too for the animation of articulated orchestral instrument samples, I suppose. Just to figurated out musical motivs, question and answer melodic phrases-parts... Or just as a jamming ambient passing momentum in the real discovery of the quest-ed musical theme. One day I like to become a member of the monome and arc community. I like your work very much. It is always an eyecatcher to discover a new video of you.
Oh ! On another video (where you present the drum part of your device) I said that I didn't see the artistic interest of it, musically speaking... well I guess I've changed my mind ! This is awesome ! An instrument of the future ! Very cool !
The monome is such a fascinating device. It does nothing by itself. I can send a message to light up an LED, and I can receive a message from a button or encoder. I look at the device and imagine what kinds of musical interactions are possible. So I try out my ideas and share them, including the code. I've been doing this since 2006. Lately, my videos are pulling visitors from unrelated content, and they see a single video out of context, and reflexively post comments that are simultaneously smug and ignorant or sometimes abusive. At that point, I have to ask why am I doing this to receive abuse? I'm not making money from youtube, I get nothing from this. People also conflate monome (the hardware) with my work (the software) and it isn't clear if they're passing judgment on one or both. Anyway, thank you for taking the time to explore a bit more and for your honesty. I'm not anywhere close to running out of ideas, but it might be easier if I keep them to myself.
man! your work is truly hypnotizing. I could totally see you jamming with four tet. your instrument is really something else, it feels so human - and this example is just beautiful. fuck the haters.... also i could see this kind of content work well in shorts or on tiktok. it ticks all the boxes. i'll subscribe and share, maybe one day this will bring in a cent or two- @@stretta
@@strettasadly the music community is pretty toxic and has, in a lot of ways, been built on elitism and exclusion ever since times long past. It sucks, but I think that's all the more reason to put your foot down and share your creativity with the world anyways, because there *is* value in it and anyone who's opinion is worth listening to will appreciate you sharing your art with the world!
Monome is still such a wonderful set of controllers. The music world has moved on but I still enjoy the look of setups that build around the grid and arc.
Each 'string' has a decay time based on the current note duration. When a note is triggered, this time value is fed to an associated line object, and fills a matrix. The matrix is updated to the monome with a grid message every 30ms.
Looks like a Monome (the grid thing) and an Arc (the knobs) put togther to create a strummy arpeggiator The knob on the right cycles through the notes of a chord when it's turned, and the bottom half of the Monome is used to decide what chord to play
can't express how I hate that digital "kchkh-s" phase offsets.. when will processing power suffice, to calculate on-the-fly sample zero crossings.. besides those pesky bastards.. alluring, as always..
this the coolest shit i've seen this year. and its 6 years old
He’s like Neo. We hear some music. He sees the matrix.

Just great!
Wonderful!

Full song please!😊
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
I know this is quite old and you may not recall, but how did you manage the LED fades for each “string”? It’s a lovely animation. :)

@@stretta very cool! I ended up doing something similar with async events in js to build the matrix
This is great, but what is it?

Thanks for answering! I'll have a look into that... Anyway, this is not only an awesome demo, but beautiful music played skillfully

Thanks for that in-depth explanation.
Resembles the Harpjji ❤
Is this script available? Been looking for it on lines with no success
It is called 'Strum' and it is part of the gridlab package on my github. If you search for 'gridlab strum' you should be able to locate it.
oops, just riding the yt-wave, stranding in the future. nice
Seq?
Omg what is that???
why did i bother learning arpeggios
so what is that ?
Hello, I have an explainer video here: ua-cam.com/video/mz2K-VmZT6g/v-deo.html
