DSJ suffered from MCW disease. Both of them were not wanted by their coaches. Both were given carte blance to do whatever they wanted their rookie years. Both sustained injuries. Both couldn't hit a bull in the ass with a sledgehammer and both have been bouncing around the league from team to team.

Phil Jackson or Jackass was the big dummy behind his stunted growth when he picked that bum from France because of his wingspan and Triangle defense potential.Remember DS Jr.went after Frank to Dallas and Donovan Mitchell went 13 if my memory serves me well to Utah.
Pitino called Jackass and stated Mitchell was a stud and Jackass said "No.I don't think he should be drafted that high".But French Toast should have.So much for the basketball IQ of Phil Jackson.
And then he resigned right after the draft.Oh and don't forget he got NY for sixty million. Also he enabled Joking Noah to rob the Knicks also.
I would have screwed that organization up for a whole lot less if Dolan wanted to be made a fool of

You're incredibly forgiving of smith jr. especially saying he had good height, or the most nba potential of the point guards. His shortcomings were well known and he didn't build on them his rookie season or his second season. He was mostly seen as being a 5-10 pick with increased risk and that's why no one had him top 5 or as the best point guard. Yes, everyone knew about his explosiveness but also his inconsistent performances and effort made not be seen as high. Not to mention the athleticism was there, but the shooting, defense, and decision making wasn't and never arrived. You also can't fault the mavs for trading him so quickly when it became evident luka was going to be special.

"Where you are drafted can make it break your career". If it wasn't being overrated/over hyped as an amateur, athleticism robbing injuries, or wrong attitude, it's almost always being drafted to the wrong situation and not getting an opportunity that ends careers prematurely. James Wiseman is having a career like that so far as the #2 overall pick. Injuries in his first and second years and then being drafted to a team in a win now mode and not getting the opportunity to develop. I'm really hoping dude doesn't end up on this channel.

It is very important when being drafted by a team that the team has a track record for development. This is where the video goes wrong in the assessment if he went to the Knicks, Hornets, Wizards, Kings or Rockets then he'd still be where he is at. It isn't about opportunity instead it is about mindset and team development plan. You see Jalen Brunson develop in Dallas so it isn't that Dallas couldn't develop talent (Luka doesn't count he has superstar level talent so he was always going to develop). But if Smith Jr had went to a team like Toronto, Miami, GSW or Utah then he wouldn't be out of the league. Those teams have a track record for nurturing talent. How many 2nd round picks you see from Knicks/Hornets/Wizards/Kings or Rockets become rotation players on a good team. Smith problem is now, he is trying to pick his next location rather than say hey let me go here and become a better player. He could easily sign a summer league contract or even a G League deal. But he probably thinks that isn't good enough for him.

Wrong. He was not pose to be the next Ja morant. The only similarities they share is athleticism. DSJ doesn’t have the court vision, handle, change of pace, hang time/body control, floater, or finishing ability that Ja has. Nor the jumper. It’s real simple.

It was a tough situation for him to begin with he was drafted by the Mavericks in 2017 when most people thought he was going to the Knicks. He has a decent, but not great rookie season. Then Luka was drafted by the Mavs in 2018 which cause a conflict of interest due to both of them sharing the same position. The Mavs try to play him off the ball which isn't suited to his game at all. Then they trade him mid-season to The Knicks which is supposed to be his big opportunity. As a Knicks fan, myself the acquisition of Dennis was intriguing to me due to his explosiveness and athleticism, he played pretty well showing some potential. Then as time went on he ran into some problems that he ran into in Dallas. There was a logjam at his position, he wasn't a consistent shooter, plus he lacked the defense that is needed to play for Thibs. I still believe he has a lot left due to his age & talent if he could get with a team like Santonio, Memphis, or OKC they can possibly develop him into the play he has the potential to become.

Rick Carlisle stunted his career. Dennis caught 2 bad breaks in a row. He ended up playing with 2 Power forwards who like to play point guard. The coaches made him play off ball and being undersized that’s a problem smh. You can’t win if your coach is creating tension with the Star player and basically “Rondo’ing” you.
