  • In this fly tying tutorial Brig ties his Rippin' Rooster!
    Typically when I’m looking for streamers, I’m looking for a pattern that is going to make the most movement possible. Especially when I am fishing still water.
    The Rippin’ Rooster is a result of a few long days on Strawberry Reservoir with a bunch of follows but no commitment from the fish.
    I was talking with Lance Egan at the shop one day and mentioned my issue with the fish not committing. He gave me some great advice to switch directions right as the fish came close to my fly. Surprise, surprise, it worked! I did run into some issues with the fly line spooking the fish when I’d switch directions, so I knew there was a way to design a streamer that could do this with much less effort.
    The schlappen mixed with the articulation of this fly makes it easy to get the same movement. Take a slight pause as soon as the fish follows and then STRIP once and BOOM! It’ll entice the fish to strike.
    I have had success using this streamer on rivers and lakes in Utah, Idaho and Montana. Tie one up for yourself and let me know how it works near you!

    Slick pattern man! I’m assuming your intention with the use of rabbit vs a deer hair head is to gain a bit more depth and a faster sink rate when using sinking lines/sink tip? Either way, it’s a cool bulkhead styled streamer and I bet the thing does move and change direction like crazy! Again, nice tie!

    Gidday Brig. Nice work. Thankyou. Psst. Dont leave your scissors on the bench or Cheech will use them for cutting wire.

    No stabs at Cheech while filming? Mustve been after hours

    • @brigham.wilson
      @brigham.wilson 5 місяців тому +1

      Exactly. He wasn’t in the studio when I filmed it and it didn’t feel right taking a stab at him when he wasn’t there to get all fired up. It doesn’t have the same thrill.
      Also, Cheech couldn’t help in the filming because he’s not allowed to touch the camera gear. The Cheeto dust from his fingers gets all up in the camera.

      I throw that on 6wt and I vary the line based on the body of water I am fishing.
      Lakes: Typically I use the SA Sonar H/2/4 (sinking line).
      Rivers: SA Sonar Trout Express (sink tip)
