      Same, I rarely look at my art and think it's good. A few things I have been proud of but not many. I mainly draw in like, cartoony, doodle style but if I'm not going to give it to anyone I know I tend to try and trace somethings but I change the designs on it or I add things sometimes. I feel I do better with that and I hope that I can draw them on my own in the future. If you have fun in the moment with the drawing and art then that is all that matters.

      @@zclaudteoriasdbs7964 I try to do that after. Plus I'm not selling them and I don't say "Oh yeah, I did this myself." I just get frustrated if I don't get it right so having done one via tracing which looks good I worry less with the one I try to make without tracing. It's just if all I see is what I deem a failure I will get disheartened and give up. If I can see one I drew by hand even if it is via tracing and is good then I can feel less like I have screwed up everything. I don't always draw via tracing. I do do stuff from my mind and from references without tracing. I just get more disheartened if I don't.

      @@that1confusedfox435 if you use art as a way to relax then I don't see tracing as bad thing. But if you want to improve practice drawing shapes and look at the thing you want to draw from a broader spectrum. Basically try to fit it in a shape and use measurements and shapes to guide you

    • @that1confusedfox435
      @that1confusedfox435 Рік тому

      @@zclaudteoriasdbs7964 I do try to. I mainly draw for relaxation but if I want to draw something from a reference to get better or try new things (which is rare but I do try and not trace since I do genuinely want to draw things without tracing) I will try to draw it without tracing and instead look at the image and try to follow the same lines whilst just using my sight, not the actual image. Most of this is done from images of animals online so not other people's art and I have done some ok drawings in my opinion from just looking at it and trying to draw what I see in it. Most of them are spur of the moment ideas to draw characters of mine or whatever but they end up not looking like garbage so I call that a win. Most of the time I start with drawing what I can see in pencil in a notebook, then I take a photo of my pencil outlines and go over them in a digital art app I have because I love the feel if digital art. I do also draw in pencil but mostly cartoon little characters which I do actually make on my own. They are simple but I love them. I have even done some more detailed looking pencil drawings on my own but have yet to figure out how to give them faces (They are animals which I try to add fur detailing to. They look great, just don't know about the faces). I do try but when it comes to drawing for relaxation I do trace sometimes. I rarely show anyone that art anyway so it's mainly just for me to essentially trick into not feeling like if I were to draw, it will turn out rubbish if that makes sense. Yes I do sometimes show them but honestly only to close people (which isn't many).

    This could be a stylistic thing but I even noticed there's a level of beauty in imperfection like when I was in school & someone who drew really good simplistic drawings (think of diary of a wimpy kid & other simple characters) they might not be good at drawing a full on scenery but they could draw an epic stick fight scene when they're board.
    Another example being the journal entries in RDR2 where Arthur Morgan would draw a bird, major landmark, or something related to the events in his journal they're rough yet still have a nice level of detail & charm to them

    Honestly- this helps a lot. I still fall back on 3/4 views of my characters, and headshots, and I’ve learned it’s better to still do those things as long as I compose the piece to tell a story instead of never doing them again. I like doing them! Today even, I used those two things but framed the character in the reflection of a chef’s knife, and I think it tells part of his story so well. Thank you for the reminder Scott! 🧡🖤

    As a left handed person( also artist) this is very much appreciated since it kinda gives a perspective of how a left handed person learning to draw would draw ,im not saying this is how ppl draw but it just gives a view of how it looks

    This just motivated me to start filling my own journal with poetry.
    It may not be colorful, but i like to call it art too :)

    Thank you for inspiring me to attempt using watercolor again after watching your videos for a while now! I've always stuck with digital art so traditional art has been hard to me, but after watching a short where you had mentioned experimenting with your artwork really sparked my interest and got me to make something I'm very proud of! Remembering that I don't have to stick to just one art medium made it an enjoyable experience, I thank you again for reminding me to have fun with my art and try different things :D

    I love how you’re so encouraging and post these art advice at the right times whenever I’m sad 😭 makes me feel better 😊 I just got on this short when I was feeling down about how I haven’t been able to make my moms children’s book because I feel like her story deserves a much better artist than me..and watching these makes me think maybe I can do it. I really appreciate when you tell us we CAN do the art things you do, I hope I make it someday. 😊

    Somebody told me this and I didn’t believe it until about a year ago, because that’s when I changed from doing my practically I just straight lines for arms and legs to actually semi detailed limbs. Even a month of drawing only every now and again can greatly improve your art.

    So true! I recently took time to doodle again, two people in historical clothes. Which is where I realized I suck at drawing folds without a meticulous reference and I can't draw leather boots 'quickly' for the life of me. But even if the faces I drew looked wonky ... I still love what I drew, because I did some fun stuff with it and managed to capture my idea of an intertemporal, intercultural romance. Thank you for sharing all your stories and tips about art!!!

    I always wanted to paint and draw but it was so frustrating! I would obsess on not using references or using the perfect color. I kid you not: I started drawing again and painting and it’s like every doubt goes away. All I hear is you saying: “get a stock photo for reference” “use a stencil” “make your own style based on things you like from different styles” and now I create with peace of mind. Thank you so much! This “create a story” technique is going to help me be more creative 😃
