I sell luxury bronze hardware and have been trying to resist this as I also own the brass. There is a softness in the hand to bronze that is hard to explain. People are asking why the big jump price. Bronze is harder to work with than brass. You can stamp brass, where bronze usually needs to be cast. Thanks for sharing! I am visiting in Tucson this week and loving the weather and food.

It cost more because it's a limited edition, not because it's harder to work with. Plus the fact that the price of the Brass Sport jumped as much as thirty dollars from many sellers, so the Bronze took the same jump.

Brass = alloy of copper and zinc.
Bronze = alloy of copper and tin.
It's true that bronze is somewhat less ductile and malleable (and requires a higher melting point) than brass, but BOTH alloys require a casting process, and in fact I'm sure the machining/manufacturing process of both versions is the same.
This large difference in price (quite high: almost triple) of the bronze version, therefore, CANNOT be justified in any way by a difference in the cost of raw materials (tin is not much more expensive than zinc on all in these small quantities), nor because of an extraordinarily more complex and expensive manufacturing process, but simply because it is a series or special edition compared to the brass version, which is not. In short, because Kaweco feels like it and wants it that way.
      That's all. Period.

Happy for you. My favorite part of brass and bronze -- any metal I guess -- is the way body heat is conducted in both directions, and these friendly little pens are changed by us, and vice versa. We're both scratched, dinged, bruised and oxidized by life. Both reflect how we've been used, too, from newly unboxed to ancient and mellowed by age. Hard for synthetic polymers to compete.

How splendid! You bring to mind one of the reasons for a collector to get a particular pen: the material. I have an ensso Italia copper with titanium nib. I think I'd love it just for the material, but how much more for the sensory aspects of it! Weight! Smell! (If smells are a problem for the reader, copper pens are not for you.) Initial shine evolving to personal patina! (Or, keep it polished.) And, the bounce of that nib! It will be a long, long time before I get a silver pen (talking to you, Yard-o-led!), but bronze, now . . . . Thanks for another wonderful review.

I just ordered one last night (F). My first fountain pen and I’m not a collector, so it’s going to be my utilitarian non-plastic pen for a lifetime. I’ve used a fountain pen before, while in college years ago in music orchestration composition class. Bought this mostly for autographs and business signings. 🎶

Brass is composed of copper and zinc, whereas bronze is made up of copper and tin, sometimes with other elements such as phosphorus or aluminum added in. As a military note: Both bronze and brass were used to make cannons in the 1600s through the 1800s. The other metal used in early cannon manufacture was cast iron. Kaweco hasn't made a cast iron version yet.

NEVER (I think) due to the high level of rust/corrosion of iron. That is why nowadays we work with STEEL (iron alloys) and not with iron alone.

I bought my brass sport based on your videos Alicia and it is my favourite fountain pen. I now have the steel and I believe there is a bronze baby in the house that I will be receiving later in the year! The last couple of plastic sports I received have had pretty much perfect buttery juicy nibs, I think Kaweco have upped their game with nibs either that or I have been very lucky! Terrific video. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I have and love the Brass Sport. It is my daily pocket carry and “Travel Pen”. Like you I had a bit of FOMO since this is a limited release. I’ve heard that the QC rejection rate is higher on the Bronze due to the difficulty of the material, thus the higher price and the limited release. I’m hoping the bronze patina will be more interesting than the brass patina. I do REALLY enjoy your videos. Loved the appearance on Hemingway’s channel. The raw aluminum is my least favorite, but it's just as good a pen as the others. For me, the Brass with a gold nib is my favorite, the Brass with a steel nib is second, the steel is third, the Bronze is fourth, and the Aluminum is fifth. But all of them are excellent pens, and it's just personal preference with the metal.
I will say that I prefer raw metal, regardless of the pen.

I am a huge fan of these pens, I love them all. I like the Sports for their diverse color selection; the AL Sports for the added weight, special edditions and the matte finish; and now the Bronze Sport for the added heft, look and feel. Just a beautiful pen. I am curious, are the threads on your Bronze Sport sharp? I don't own any of the other pens shown here so I don't have anything to compare it to. All the threads on the AL Sports I have are smooth. Just wondering what the threads on the metal pens in your video feel likw, are they sharp? Are they all consistently sharp? I hope they will smooth with time but I just don't know. It's the only thing I don't like abut this pen.

It is beautiful, but wait a month or two. I'm not a big fan of rose gold on pens, so Iprefer the look of a new Brass over a new Bronze because the Bronze reminds me of rose gold. I don't write all that much and never for a long time, though. My sister-in-law found it too heavy --- she will spend hours writing and drawing, and she finds the heavy pens tiring to use.

Holy s... it costs 190 euro when the Brass costs only 70 euro. Can anybody share why they have such a big difference in price please?

Because Kaweco wants. That's the only explanation.

      That's all. Period.

I was surprised by the price point. A $200 fountain pen with a steel nib. I normally expect a gold nib at this price point. The bronze body must be more valuable than brass or something along those lines. Your whole collection is beautiful together, that's for sure! 😊

@jamesaritchie1 ok that makes sense. I missed that bit of information. I avoid the hype of limited edition pens especially when pen companies are turning them out on a consistent basis just to make a grip of money. To each their own.

I am happy that people like and buy the pens they love. The more fountain pens are sold helps us all. But I cannot understand the attraction to Kaweco Sport pens. In my estimation they are ugly to the extreme.
