In todays video we get a new car sent to us by Joe from Shifting Metal. Joe wants to resort this 5.0l SL500 back to standard in order to sell it at his dealership. But there are a few hiccups along the way...

Makes sense for Joe to want it standard. Maximises the potential customer demographic. Then they can do what they want with it after purchase. Good shout with the roof. Always nice to know someone who lives with the car on a daily basis.

As the owner of a Mercedes SL I agree they are very underpowered for the size of the block, but it’s not built for performance, it’s a luxury boat really. I’m glad you got rid of that grille, I thought it was awful

Same age SL 500 as mine. I've got silver with the two-tone grey and all standard including the AMG alloys you showed. It's true it's quiet - understated, and I love it. But, I've also got a Triumph Stag, with stainless system - one of the best, most distinctive, V8 burbles you can get.
Ha ha two cars ends apart, Id prefer the sound of the stag myself, love a nice burbly v8

I have had 2 convertables both new an astra and a peugeout 308 you must start the engine and slightly touch the frottle whilst opening and shutting, this apparently is the process on all convertables even though its not in their manuals . If you don't the roofs jamb, also you have sensor in the boot you must engage with partician curtain you pull out to start the roof process. I'm waffling but basically start engine whilst operating the roof cos it kills the battery and the roof , my guess that's what happened to this sl

Another fab job. I can see why some of the Columbian flour merchants mods are not for everyone but I don't mind them. That V8 was a stunning sound with the modded boxes but the original tips look better. Would have kept those mods, and the wheels too. I agree it's lost its character.

Forget the tint, the grill and the wheels, it should be a crime to change the exhaust back to original. Also Liam I agree with your idea the side exhaust on the taxi would look amazing. As always a great fun to watch and keep up the hard work lads❤

Glad you picked-up on the registration changes on Vehiclescore - my car's had one previous owner but has had 3 plate changes so far (registered new on a private plate, then the dealer gave it a year-appropriate plate, then my private plate was put on) 😆

Selling modified cars is a nightmare, to massively generalise the younger guy will want to put his own stamp on it and the older guy would probably be a Merc enthusiast who'd want it 100% factory. The potentiel customer base is tiny when modified.

Definitely not a fan of the wheels or the tint, I think these look classier with the standard wheels and no tint, especially with the grey interior.
The back boxes I'm in two minds about. On the one hand, the Before sounds proper muscle car, but it's also supposed to be a mile-munching GT, and depending on how loud it is inside, the Before could make it worse at being a GT. But the stock backbox is so muted! I think a set-up half way between the two would be perfect; it would still sound like the big V8 it is, but also be able to do hours and hours without being tiring or drone-y.
I have a big soft spot for the R230 SL. I think they looked great in their day and look just as great now.
Id definitely have no back boxes if it was mine, it just made the 5.0 noticeable
