Watching reruns of this show is becoming a bit of a guilty pleasure for me! Aside from a mortgage I've never had any debt aside from carrying a credit card balance for all of three months. Seeing how these people live their lives with their heads burried in the sand is just alien to me - makes for addictive viewing! Unfortunately this show doesn't seem to actually teach people about money or how to handle it. It would be very interesting to see how these people got on a couple of years after these shows were filmed. I'd bet the vast majority of them are still swimming in debt and barely keeping their heads above water.

One show they gave a single mom with 2 children 50 pounds to live on for the week. This guy who has a wife and son, they give 140! whyyyyy the huge difference?
I thought that too when they said 120. I bet they had a look at fixed expenses to get to that number. It sounded like the wife here had a 5 pound toll to get to work everyday plus petrol. Maybe it was too far or remote for her to bike or take transit. The other mom I think was in walking distance for day to day stuff. Not sure what the other fixed costs were, maybe the kid? I assume its based on that since it was struggle?
I think it depends on the debt to some extent. If there's an immediate need for a larger portion of the salary to pay off the debt to avoid losing an apartment etc.

This guy really wanted to change and He has been one of the best so far! He loves his family so much that he wanted to understand why he was the way he was and that's what I loved about him. That he wanted to become better for his family 🤗❤ I wish him nothing but success for the future!
What a strange thing for his mother to have done. I cannot imagine ‘pretend-calling’ someone to take my child away!
I would have chosen to stay away from things that tempt me to spend.
I remember my mother use to regularly pretend to get the police or the authorities to take me away! I think I was about 6 at the time!
My mother once convinced me that my mother is not my real mother and that my real mother was a "posh rich lady" and she was only looking after me till I was older and now I have to go and live with posh mummy now. I about 6 maybe 7 and I still never forgot the moment or the heartbreak I felt
queenpig The heartache when you found out you didn’t have a rich mother?
Im about the same age and also have workingclass parents who was very aware of the kids should behave well and appear neat and tidy. The standard threat for tired parents in Sweden and Denmark was to say that to send the kids to the chimney sweeper 😆
@@nicolataylor6011 terrible thing to say to a child!
Hugs to U! 🤗
Shows don’t have background music like this anymore!
He seems like a nice guy but he'll never be a director. Directing a movie is being responsible for EVERYTHING.
My friend is full time film maker. (in fact I know a few). Passion is not blowing all your money on crap and dreaming about it.
Producer is the one responsible for everything, Inc finances.
@@Guernsey576 Right, but as they said he wanted to be a director I was pointing out the huge responsibility the director has on the creative part and overall outcome ;-)
Su Ann Working in the arts is about five times harder more continuous work than anything-Many are called few are chosen😊
That’s a fixed mindset. He can become a director if he works hard.
That psychologist is a genius!
Maybe because I'm older I feel this way but explain how any woman can sleep with a man who garners absolutely no respect as this one? He is nauseating...."beautiful distressed pair of trousers...beautiful beautiful!"
I would still be attracted to a kind man with a good heart like this one. Even if he wasn’t a winner in the eyes of the world.
Tried looking this guy up online, see what he's up to now. Being a sci-fi geek, I'd have thought he would be all oer the net, but I can't find him anywhere :S
Larry Bundy Jr Let’s just hope that he’s found happiness then.
@Alison Brown Don't knock it. I have mobility problems and would be very cut off without the internet. It's also brilliant for being able to let my gym bus scheme know if I don't need a pick up. ( I can still get exercise from all the machines in the gym.
Am I allowed to mention the names of shops? I take Dvds that I no longer need to a shop called CEX. My sister and brother in law took some back for me. I expected £28. They came back with £60. And the receipt to prove it.
@Alison Brown A Sci-fi fan with absolutely zero internet presence? I find that hard to believe.
@Willem Chastity ah thanks matey! got some more up soon!
It must be so easy to get credit cards in the UK because in Australia, once you max out 2 x credit cards you're lucky if you'll ever get approval for another
Smart people!
Because the program was produced over 15 years ago (prior GFC). Credit card approval was much easier back then.
Get him to flog the comics and crap on ebay to pay off the debt. 😂
PhilipsMedia5 DVDs are worth fuck all now 😂
@@Dessan01 he wont get back what he paid on the mainstream dvds but the stack of Asian dvds still go for £5-6 a pop, play.com use to sell them at £2-3 same with most gorezombie dvds those still sell for £3-5. He would however make a decent return on the art toys the mars attack bust for example and the prints all sky rocketed.
Dessan01 but this was filmed in early 2000’s
@@h930hec Kasabians Shoot The Runner is on the soundtrack, so this dates it absolute earliest Autumn 05.
He could still sell his comics and films today, sure totalled up maybe 2, 3k, but that's 2k off.
Too true
Is has got to be the most 2000’s thing I’ve watched in a while
Thank you, Jason and Benjamin for sharing this. It mirrors mine within my family although I actually physically moved state with my own family to get away. My clothing also lightened up since my dad passed away. I use to wear black a lot, now it's beige and grey. Interesting.
he can open a online store, sell his good taste in merch.
Anteroization good taste?!
When he went into the hair salon and did the cosoltation, he looked completely different, and did a great cut.
Great episode. I really loved the coaches approach in this and the work jason put in. Well done✅
Good for him for thinking about his family and changing his ways
Whenever I see adult men who collect comics, DVDs, video games etc. I just instantly think what the hell are you doing it just screams man child
I always find it weird that the ones that spend a fortune on clothes never really look very flash
This is the kinda dude who leaves there family for a younger man years down the line 😂😂
lol judging by his ig that is precisely what he did
Haha no way What's his IG?
Hope this guy stick to the plan and hope his son is having an amazing life growing up
I’m a twin. Twins compare themselves to each other, that’s just how it works. My parents pretended they would send me off to be adopted too.
Just his comic collection alone would sell for a small fortune. He keeps ten super good condition still in its original packaging.
This series is so good. Love that vintage real tv stuff. The fashion is awful lol
Emma Philomena all that money wasted
I love ben- such a gifted therapist !!!
Wonder what the wife and sons wardrobes look like.
I think the exercises he was asked to do were very insightful and not at all easy to do but he made a lot of effort. What his mother did to the twins was inexcusable! Of course that is going to leave lasting scars. He made a lot of improvement and I hope the best for him!
Back in the day when people actually bought films on DVD's and music on CD's! At least he can stream them these days. Wonder how he is now?
He will still be in debt, people rarely change as takes work ! And discipline with money !
A lot of niche stuff isn't available on streaming services.
@@murasakiahiru yeap agree I still keep my dvds, and blue Ray's for that reason! Not everything is on streaming services,
@Stu Sadler is that true or you trolling bro ?:)
@Stu Sadler any proof online ?
Watching reruns of this show is becoming a bit of a guilty pleasure for me! Aside from a mortgage I've never had any debt aside from carrying a credit card balance for all of three months. Hated how it felt so got rid of it asap and never had any debt since then. Now I don't even have a mortgage, fully paid off home and not a cent of debt. Will be staying that way.
Just to add that this was a really lovely episode, prob the best one yet. He really took everything to heart and made some big changes to his life. Couldn't help but root for the guy!
It’s my guilty pleasure too. I actually try and look the people up after I’ve watched the episodes, as I’m intrigued to see what they’ve done with their lives. I watched an episode with a lady called Alison. Googled her and it says she’s gone bankrupt. Wasn’t surprised though!
@@amyrushton9448 Yeah I think I saw that episode too. Pretty attractive blonde girl who had issues even walking into a lower priced store right? She really didn't seem very happy or receptive to any help re her spending habits so not a surprise things finally caught up with her! When I have a sec I'm gonna have a google and find out how things turned out for some of the others.
Everything makes sense except the female partner and their son. 2:48. I mean, really! When was the last time you kissed a pair of your new shoes?
Nothing gives you confidence like having your finances sorted!
Digging into the root causes of some of these peoples spending habits and then not offering ongoing therapy can really be quite detrimental to their health. I really think its quite irresponsible for Ben to open this can with people and just leave them to ruminate on it :(
We don't know if they offered after therapy or not.
@@lup6974 Hm i highly doubt the producers would foot the bill for the further therapy sessions necessary
@@Spiderbro8 We have the NHS, mental healthcare is covered so it's free and available for him anyway, I'm sure they would sort that out and if not, self referral
I decided to stop watching this, as soon as I realised how selfish this guy was but I persevered. Jason did so well dealing with his problems, that he ended up such a great guy - so glad for his family!
Oh damn he has a family ? ...lmao I spend too much but at least I do not have one of those.
Any comic collector can find joy in not buying new ones & rereading the old ones.
I still buy DVDs. I didn't have internet for 6months and those DVDs helped me through a cold shitty winter 🤣
he's talented hair dresser. That's a solid skill.
Dizinii deceased 😭💀🤣
That blonde mannequin at 37:15 totally got me !!!! I was thinking, my she is soo good in staying absolutely still and doesn't even blink !!!! She totally got me pretty good, it wasn't until about a good 1-2 minutes that I realized that "she" was a suped out mannequin...
I actually got loads of money for my old DVDs at a recent car boot, so there are still people who want them :) I would like Benjamin to stop making these swooping generalisations about men and women. I know enough men who have big trainer collections and loads of clothes...
I must say i am quite impress with overcoming his demons .
This guy is by far the most twisted person so far and come through.
😊
That's the thing with spending money on STUFF- it becomes worth nothing and you have nothing to show for after spending all those years of hard work. I used to be a bit of a spendaholic myself and had mountains of cheap clothes and shoes, and a few years ago I came across minimalism. Since then my life changed drastically! I really hope he really will change those habits, because I don't think his partner will put up with is much longer..
Benjamin is just excellent! I wish I could be helped by him
Benjamin - you are a genius man!
I wonder where he is now Jason if you are out there somewhere hope you are well does anyone know where and how he is what he is doing now if you can give me information would be appreciated many thanks
Are his comics an Investment that he doesn’t know about though?
Because they are recent they won't be worth a lot, plus he's borrowed money with a high interest rate to buy them.
@@djhaynes99 the shop he works at hasn't existed in 10 odd years, the comics might be old enough to be collectible by now!
@@joxidearmageddonator882 A few might be, but were talking the odd one being worth £500 max. When you factor the interest he paid on the loans, it isn't a lot of money.
What a jerk.He whole life is a bad joke. Childish silly man.
I can understand how his thoughts worked when his mom would get say she'd be get rid of either one twin, and that that would be the independent one since he wouldn't need his mother's love.. I can actually see how that seeped into his current relationship with his wife and kid and eventually lead to becoming dependent on his wife.
You pretend you're tough and all that by calling him a joke and you obviously can't even try to think of how it would feel.
this program is very mind awakening. I try to call in my credit card co. for the balance thruout the mo. to see how much I am spending esp. with high cost in living. the lady who helps with people with their budget has a extensive wardrobe wonder what her budget is for clothes maybe she makes a lot of money.
