This title is total click bait. Tracey was NEVER Marge Simpson and never says she was in this interview, she just does an impression of Julie Kavner, who voices Marge. False title!!
Darreyl Henderson Agreed! She was just doing impersonations of her fellow cast members doing the voices for the shorts.
I feel cheated and I'm thinking about suing somebody or other. I hate cheap come-on titles.
@Lola Baria Okay, but it's a deceptive joke, so GN gets a wee punch in the face, but can be spared the knee to the groin.
Darreyl Henderson D'oh! 😆
jiggus figgus I wonder how she feels about The Simpsons now seeing as how successful they have become they would have to be one of the most famous families in the history of television
The Simpsons is where I first heard of Tracey Ullman. I always think of The Simpsons when I hear her name.
Actually Tracey Ullman when she had her show in the 80’s. She put the cartoon The Simpsons in her show. As small as I was I was probably six or seven years old at the time. I remember the Tracey Ullman show on Fox.
@Pete Jones Easy: I had never watched the Tracey Ullman show before.
Lowenstien
Ah...don't you mean... youngest heard of the Simpson's from watching tracy ullman
Theybjad a short clip shown during her comedy show
@@HumanimalChannel what the Hell was that?? What did you actually mean to.say??
3:25 she impersonated Julie Kavner so well it was so hilarious.
Tracey Ullman hated The Simpsons-skits, she wanted the 'cartoon bits' off her show. When it spun off and became a hit she wanted credit as being part of the success and sued for money. She failed epicly.
+Zarkow Thank You
*****
It is very much how it went. Look for the Conan sit-down with the Simpson writers, or read the books from the events...
*****
You don't think that the actual WRITERS for the Simpson show may know about what happened?! (Conan was one of the writers early on the show too.)
+David Roberts The creators all corroborate this story
+David Roberts And yet you don't provide even one of your "reliable sources".
i remember it well, shorts, crudely draw, but so original they became the star of the show, it blew up. i couldn't get enough of it.
Tracey Ullman is what an actor ought to be: take a trope and make it flesh. She is utterly good she is.
All I heard from Simpsons people is that Tracey Ullman hated having The Simpsons on her show and thought it "took focus away" from her. :/
kbamm69 Back in the late 80s? How was it like? What did you think about the simpsons at the time? Did you ever expect it to become as popular as it is now? Sorry about the many questions.
Michael Lugo In 1989 in Australia, I first saw a short Simpsons skit before "Turner and Hooch" at the cinema when they would sometimes show a short film with the previews. It was quite bedazzling with its striking colours, distinct voices and edgey humour. I think people were in a state of shock and rapture and were left thinking "What WAS that?? Did I just imagine that?"
dan man:I watched The Tracy Ulman show. The Simpson's were small skits with no voice overs. Then started to have voices. The pilot episode was a The Christmas Special.I knew I liked it.Then everyone was talking about it,about how funny it was.The rest is cartoon history.
They ALWAYS had voice over.
Yeah, it was The Tracey Ullman Show
When my uncle got his OBE, my grandfather said it stood for 'Other Bugger's Efforts'.
Hahahahahahahahaha!
whos your uncle
Tracey Ullman is one of the greatest talents of all time.
I was still in highschool when her show was on. I do remember the beginning of the Simpsons very well. Tracey Ullman is a funny lady.
That Julie Kavner impression is really spot on
She has never gotten enough credit for launching something that two decades later is still going strong, AND she is still as beautiful and funny as ever.
Because she doesn’t deserve any.
Umm She he hated the Simpsons skits and wanted them off her show and only asked for credit when they became popular...
Take a look at the eighties. THere's a reason James Brooks waited for two years for her to have a baby and then come back to work. Nobody else could have pulled off a show like this. Comedy of course is in large part subjective, but Sam Simon has worked with some of the biggest talents around and says that she is one of the all time television greats. The guy may have been nuts, but I'd take his opinion over people on the internet. Even though I often don't find her laugh out loud funny, although I don't find much of anything laugh out loud funny right now. Most celebrities tend to have both big egos and be quite insecure so what is said here really doesn't mean much, but thats kind of true, define what 'credit' actually means. Its sort of like Frazier being a big hit, but you don't give credit to Ted Danson for it. I think she gets plenty of credit without it.
Yes, we remember. Some of us actually remember reading Life in Hell before the Simpsons started. I wish Tracey's show had lasted longer.
3:24
Thank you
Thx
She sounds like Whoopi Goldberg.
She takes no credit for it, she ACCEPTS credit, big difference. She is a great comedian.
Yes, she does take credit. She hated The Simpsons and wanted them off her show but when they became popular and big hit. She wanted credit for it, so yeah, she does take credit credit that she doesn’t deserve because she didn’t create the Simpsons Matt Groaning did.
Tracey Ullman is a favourite of mine. She's brilliant in everything she does.
Ha ha, makes me feel old that I actually remember all this. (Of course, Tracy wasn't ever Marge, Julie always was, but it's wild to think most people may not know how it got started)
I remember watching her show and seeing the Simpsons here and there.. Brilliant woman!
I love her hair. It's going gray, but she's not ashamed of it and it still looks gorgeous.
+Evija3000 yeah the colour looks good but I love the blowdry she's had - like the volume shine & styling
pennydesouza Yeah. I meant it's gorgeous altogether, including the styling.
Hi I think I accidentally pushed the report button on you. Have no glasses on yet (just woked up) I am so sorry about that :(
+Lola Lolita I wish all commenters in UA-cam are as sweet as you ! :)
+Audaxi I think you are right :(
How humble for such a powerful talent.
i remember watching Tracy's show and waiting for the bit with the Simpsons cartoon. Always looked forward to it.
Linda Grainger! Her show was amazing. I remember the Simpsons interludes. I used to listen to her CD but I can't find it anymore.
I love Tracy Ullman she is the best !👏💗
In an interview, Dan Castellaneta said that he mimicked Walter Matthau's voice for Homer initially, but it was too difficult to maintain it.
One of those rare occasions its an all British cast...
Yeah and actually funny but British humour is wasted on Americans
Tracy Ull,am’s first show in the US was excellent.
She is one of the most underrated comedian
+crimson gate32 She's brilliant.
Underrated? So she's actually funny then?
Drivel! She's acknowledged and respected on both sides of the Atlantic.
i remember it well, the simpson's were an instant hit. the characters were so different and over the top.
I remember .. with a big smile, her (Tracy) video for her hit, "They Don't Know"..and one scene in particular where she's driving and as was the fad back in the 80's or earlier, some people had their name and the name of their boyfriend/girlfriend. across the top of their car windscreen. Paul McCartney was in the seat next to her, no dialogue just "Tracy and Paul" on plastic, across the top of the windscreeen.. Great song as it happens and very funny video which still exists on You Tube.
Tracey Ullman is a GODDESS.....and a ridiculously funny one too! LUV her.
To be around watching the Tracey Ullman show and seeing the simpson bits knowing that one day it would make great trivia and then here we are years later making myself feel old...
Wow, she does a good Julie Kavner impression.
I remember seeing it on her show as a kid, scared me a bit they seemed creepy to me in their rudimentary form lol.
How does RALPH FIENNES not have an OBE or an Oscar! I’m baffled.
Search "Conan O'Brien The Simpsons" on here. It'll come up with an interview Conan conducted a while back with a bunch of Simpsons writers from past and present. They say that Tracey Ullman hated the Simpsons shorts and wanted them off her show, only later to claim credit and try to sue them for it when The Simpsons became huge. One of the writers (I think Jay Kogan) says that she used to say the exact same thing which she says here, that she "breast-fed" The Simpsons.
It s 1 hour 20. No way am I watching all that. What time in particular?
'Me' >> Don't be lazy.
its somewhere in the first 20minutes
Dont be lazy? Who has an hour and 20 minutes to kill? Ill skip through until 20 minutes but then im giving up.
Just checked it. Go to 5:40.
I don't care what anybody else thinks....I think she's still awesome.
Ralph is one of my favourite actors
The Simpsons started on her show its not surprising.
+Jason Mooney She was against the simpsons from the start.
+lochyes why?
+Vamanos Ninja Because it was more popular than the other segments of the show
BimodalMetal6 That would be painful.
She doesnt have to work again.. They HAVE TO pay he a percent now cos if not for her show Simpsons may never have got famous
She also voiced Lulu from The Little Lulu Show.
Yes I did know that Graham Norton & thank you for asking :) It premiered that episode when I was in junior high school/8th grade as a pre teen & have been watching it ever since *happy sigh*
Pfff, Ullman HATED The Simpsons. That's why nobody under 30 even remembers who she is in North America. Also, it would say, "Created by Tracy Ullman" in the credits. Now, of course she takes credit for them.
+Nicolas Vincent oh gee man...Tracey rules loved her ever since that show- even was taping it...who knows if the simpsons ever took off without her????
+Nicolas Vincent - She didn't hate the Simpsons at all - she loved them. Where do you get this info? Don't believe everything you read.
+dippylala there's an hour long interview on UA-cam between Conan O'Brian and a few of the original Simpsons writers in which they also make this claim. They state that she hated the Simpsons and was constantly trying to get it pulled off her show, only to change her tune years later when it became immensely popular. I can't remember at what point it is in the video, but it's well worth watching the whole thing anyway
+dippylala Watch the commentary tracks. I was paraphrasing the creator's of the show. Ullman hated & wanted nothing to do with the Simpson's. She didn't even want it on her show, that's why she didn't bother with any of the voices. Had she, she's have had a career in North America since The Simpson's spun off. Instead, she blames, and maybe with good reason, The Simpson's success on her dwindled career. Who wouldn't be bitter?
+Nicolas Vincent she gets royalty fees from the Simpsons
She tried suing them when they got their own show. Saying she owned them.
I’ve always found it funny that she never wanted the Simpsons cartoons as a part of her show, but as soon as they found success on their own, she sued for a payday, and thankfully lost.
"Love you to death" is a seriously under rated film she was in in the early nineties. If you 'find it' its worth watching if only to see Keanu Reeves and William Hurt as drugged out assassins and Kevin Kline overplayed italian accent.
I still remember the time Tracey Ullman once said, _"Yeah, I breastfed those little devils!"_ during an 1990s interview! Too funny!
God I love Ralph Fiennes. All day.
Agreed. What a star!
I love Tracy Ullman. Awesome
Edward Medina *awful
Tracey gave birth to The Simpsons.
She is one of England's national treasures. Love her.
Whoooooo
I used to think The Simpsons was the one American comedy that wasn't absolutely detestable, and I quite love it, but then I found out Tracey Ullman was responsible for creating it
she wasnt, but go on.
If you've never seen Jeckyll, James Nesbitt was insanely good.
But she wasn't the original Marge. It was always Julie Kavner. Tracey was doing a great impression of Julie's voice.
Best talk show ever
She did the shush in the Gracie Films logo at the end of each episode of The Simpsons
She hated The Simpsons and wanted it off her show, after it’s success she suddenly looked back on it fondly 🤷🏾♂️
The Simpson's first premiered on the Tracey Ullman show, but she didn't create them, Matt Groening created the characters, and it was the cast of the Tracey Ullman show who voiced them, while I assume they were being paid as cast members of the Tracey Ullman show at the time. So I think from a strictly "who created the simpsons" question, then it was Matt Groening, but Tracey Ullman gave them their first public viewing, through her show. So they wouldn't have had a pre-established audience without Tracey Ullman.
He asked her if she was a Creator of the Simpsons and she replied Yes. I don't think that is true but whatever.
True. She just gave them a slot of a few minutes for the creators to present their show. She never contributed anything besides that. I’m glad she lost that lawsuit.
First watched tracey in 'Girls on top' 1985 when I a lil kid. Then she left and smashed America.
Since I’m not a Simpsons fan, I wouldn’t have considered clicking on this particular clip if I didn’t already know that the Simpsons began on the Tracey Ullman show at the end of the 80s. I’ve hardly seen anything that Tracey has done, but I still feel more like I’m a bigger fan of hers than the Simpsons.
She is fantastic!
Always loved Tracey Ullman!
Tracey is incredible!
I 💕💞💘💖 the Graham Norton Show & of course Graham Norton! 👏 🌟✨💫🍸
1:50 ..... camillatoe
That is a very misleading headline. Tracey is not the original Marge. She just does a pretty good impersonation of Marge.
3:25, interesting
She sounds more like Marge Simpson than Julie Kavner does now
A nice impression of Marge/Julie.
She also played little lulu
@2:52 IS The Simpsons Part
3:27 She sounds like Bobby Hill trying to do an Impression of Marge Simpson
Im from canada and have no idea what they are talking about and dont want to google and would rather wait for an answer here.
I knew that because I used to watch The Tracy Ullman Show. It was very funny, but it only lasted a few seasons. Too bad it wasn't around longer.
Ullman also had Dr. N!Godatu cartoons on her show, but few people remember those.
The only thing I remember of Tracey Ullman was the crazy witch lady in Robin Hood: Men In Tights lol
My question is...does Tracey Ullman get any financial residuals from the fact that THE SIMPSONS originated on her show? If not, she must be kicking herself for missing out on that cash cow!
Here's what Tracey said on one of the award shows after she wanted the Simpsons cartoons *REMOVED* from her show: "I nurtured those little devils." Yeah right.
If she kept doing Simpsons she would a LOT richer.
Ralph is just gorgeous
What is weird is how she has played her since 1989 and that it's her real voice.
Tracy Ullman hated the show and wanted it pulled from her show. She fought to have it pulled. Conan O'Brian did an interview with some of the writers of the show
3:25 - She says "Julie" (Julie Kavner, a writer and actress on the Tracy Ullman Show and the voice of Marge Simpson) did the voice, not Tracy; am I missing something?
The Simpson sketch was taken out when it was shown in the UK. LOL!
it's a shame that BBC America screws up the showing of Graham Norton. it's on at 10 no 11 no 12. or it isn't on at all. or we see it 5 months later. But we get The next generation without fail. I don't even watch anymore. I do try to tape Graham whenever I see it on.
Who still uses tape?
+Jack Davids he means to DVR
+Jamie Ramirez or VHS
+Michael Riley - Just be thankful that BBC America does not charge you with a TV tax (£145.00) - like BBC Britain does.
People who still records
Did anyone else notice the other guests immediately looked uncomfortable when she said “I breastfed the yellow people” heh
Am I the only one that came here cause she plays Robin's mom on HIMYM ?
I love Tracey's Angela Merkel!
The mother who didn't love her children until they became successful
Watched the original writer's reunion show of the Simpsons. According to them Tracey Ullman hated the Simpsons. Wanted to get rid of the cartoons from her show. There were five writers on that panel and they all were of that opinion.
Damn he reminds me of David Bowie here
Nice to see a socially distanced sofa. She must have trumped.
Video is four years old.
I love Tracey Ullman x
Love her....
It's not fake it's just hexafluoride.
Am I the only one who recognizes her as Robin Scherbatzky's mom?
Tracey was in a few woody Allen films as was Julie Kavner
"How many mother in laws is that?"
I used to watch the Simpsons on her show and I tried to tell people to watch it.
I remember her tv show in the 80’s also The Simpson’s.
As misleading as the title of this video is, she does a great Julie Kavner!
