Fun fact: In over the moon the story is actually much more toned down.the lover and the lady were both gods but was sent down to live a mortal life after killing the Jade emperors sons (the sons turned into actual suns so they had to be shot down).the more modernized version is that the lover gets the immortality juice and the lady takes it and drinks it for herself.but I like the version where the save it and the lady has to used in self defense from a robber is clearly better (Yes I watch over sarcastic productions why do you ask)
The reason I loved onward so much is because it is one of the only movies I have ever seen where the older brother isn't a jerk to the younger brother, and the two siblings actually care about each other
Wolfwalkers by far was my favourite animated movie of 2020 and may even be in my top 3 of all time. It was just so beautiful, some of the scenes had me hypnotized. I couldn't take my eyes off of it.
I watched "A Whisker Away" with my sister and we decided to talk over the characters and make jokes. Then two weeks later I watched the movie alone to see what the actual movie was like. Let's just say it was a much better experience when we were talking over the characters.
My 7 year old sister watched "A Whisker Away" before me, she found the plot and girl to be annoying and disturbing. A 7 year old could see the problems this movie had with its stalker romance but the fact grown adults didn't is unsurprising and concerning
"This really was the year of the furries wasn't it?" Considering Beastars and BNA were HUGE this year, as well as "The Fandom" dropping, that wouldn't surprise me.

6:19 thank you for mentioning this nasty trend in Japanese romance movies. Extraverted girl tries to push an introverted guy out of his comfort zone because "she cares about him". I can't see why people perceive this type of behaviour as anything else than obnoxious and downright abusive.
No, really, I can't thank you enough. You're the first person I have ever heard to speak out about this. Last year I had a huge argument with my friends over "I want to eat your pancreas". They loved the movie, while I said that the relationship between the main duo had abusive undertones and was like, unsustainable beyond some shitty high-school romance. Not because she had little time left, but because how entitled to the guy's time and attention she behaved. And how much she was fixated on "fixing" him. I was like, girl, he's just not your type, ok? Don't need to force him out of the library, if you care about him, respect his comfort zone. It's your problem if he seems "wrong" to you. And guilt-tripping him on your first meeting with "I'm dying so stick to me" thing, what are you doing?? Is this guy your bucket list checkmark or is he a person? The biggest part that frustrated me is that the story never acknowledged these character flaws, and the girl was painted as an angel that came and saved the guy from misery before passing away. F that. Anyway, my friends didn't see it and the movie was universally loved so I eventually just shut up about it. Sorry for venting in your comments :D
@@dumpsterDeity I hated A Whisker Away but I loved I want to eat your pancreas. To be frank, it was more of a coming of age since they did not really end up together at the end, though it was romantic and she just wanted to live her best life. The whole point was that she was to die. He could’ve just left and yelled if he hated it but he stuck around and hung with her. She dragged him along and since he was used to his mundane life, he didn’t object and when he did, he still decided to go with it. If he never wanted the trip, if he never cared, he would have never went on the train, he wouldn’t have cried, he wouldn’t have missed her, he wouldn’t have seen her mom, he wouldn’t have read her notebook, he wouldn’t have visited her grave. She wanted to be with him because he didn’t look down or treat her differently when she was ill. She was the bridge to his character development and change. He cared but never showed it until her untimely death. The boy had a shell that stopped his friendships. She was the one who cared and took him on adventures to show him how to treasure life. Her death showed that he cared after all when he cried. She was looking for a friend a person who would understand that she was about to die and would not pity her so they hung out. The part where she pretended to kiss him and he pinned her down? They got into an argument. They never romanticized that. A whisker away full on made her a stalker, AND she received no development, just the guy. In pancreas, she left and he was able to form a relationship with her best friend. He thanked her for helping him because of the journeys and learning to live with being able to befriend people like YLIA. She served a purpose in his life. He learned to make friends. I fail to see the abusive undertones because the relationship was fine?? Except for the only time they crossed the line, they clearly made it a bad thing. It really differs from a whisker away. It’s more like YLIA. It was a tsundere who developed and deredere female who taught them to come out of a hole they were stuck in. In a whisker away, it was a tsundere that CLEARLY did not like her presence (“but in the end it was because she liked me that she did creepy shit!”) and a creepy cat yandere who STALKED HIM.

For me Onward certainly has its issues with certain scenes being forgetful, but the ending far and away makes it my favourite from the year. The loving relationship between the brothers and the great voice acting makes it even better imo
As a sibling whose father wasn't around much (due to divorce), I cried at the end when Ian sacrificed for his big brother. And if a movie does that, it's automatically good.
I think we can all agree that Cartoon Saloon and Laika really deserve to win an Oscar to catapult them into the spotlight. They’re both incredible and yet they get a fraction of the viewers and revenue that Disney, Pixar, DreamWorks and *shudders* Illumination get. Update: Wolfwalkers missed out on winning best animated picture at the Golden Globes, which Missing Link won last year. The chances aren’t looking good for the Oscars. I’ll come back again when they’re announced. Update again: Mission failed, we’ll get em next time (hopefully)
Agreed, but you seem to have forgotten that Spirited Away won in 2002. Wolfwalkers winning would still be monumental, but it wouldn’t be the first time a 2D film won. Still, given the dominance of 3D films, it would still be a massive shock to see.

My list of movies I watched: 1- Soul - A great movie that discusses death to celebrate life and has great messages about trauma and dreams. I’m really mixed about the ending but I think I would have the same opinion if it didn’t happen. 2- We Bare Bears The Movie is a perfect ending of the series with a great message of inclusion and I really wasn’t expecting it to be a immigration allegory (even though the show had some heavy themes throughout) but it had some annoying and outdated memes jokes 3- Candace against the Universe - A great revival of the series with an amazing writing and totally unexpected character growth for the lead character 4- Onward - Not amazing but pretty fun movie 5- JLD: Apokolips War - I love the main characters arcs but I don’t like that all the undeveloped characters died in 5 minutes so they never got proper arcs of their own. Even though I really liked the ending I reallythink Flash should’ve done something in this movie prior to the ending (and it’s pretty obvious that it was going to be another Teen Titans and Batman movie but they decided to end the continuity) 6- Ben 10 vs The Universe The Movie has a great arc for Ben, Kevin and Vilgax. I can’t believe how great Vilgax is in this reboot. However, it has almost the exact same plot as Secret of the Omnitrix which for me is the greatest Ben 10 story of all and it has some improvements but is mostly not as good. If you are not a fan (which I obviously am) you probably won’t like it but even people who hated the reboot seem to like this movie and I think it’s because Ben 10 doesn’t really work in 11 minutes episodes so a movie is great for this type of series. Pretty great year I’m looking foward to watch Wolfwalkers, Spongebob, Scooby, the DC ones and the one with the siblings I’m really dying to see the Mitchells vs the Connected Mchines already (Why there were 2 movies based on 2000s cartoons named Character X the universe?) I really appreciated that point towards the end of Soul when Joe was playing the piano back in his own body, with its lack of words for an ambitiously long time. It just kinda let emotions come and go as they please, and all in all felt very refreshing.
Yeah, I agree.
The movie has a weird pace because it's realistic. It still manages to be expertly structured and subverted a lot of expectations.

Fun fact:
In over the moon the story is actually much more toned down.the lover and the lady were both gods but was sent down to live a mortal life after killing the Jade emperors sons (the sons turned into actual suns so they had to be shot down).the more modernized version is that the lover gets the immortality juice and the lady takes it and drinks it for herself.but I like the version where the save it and the lady has to used in self defense from a robber is clearly better

You again
Don't forget a Made in Abyss villain turning himself into a furry.
Don't forget Aggretsuko season 3
I still both need to and am afraid to watch Made in Abyss.
Asa furry, despite what the doc said, this Fandom is real shitty. It has it's good parts but it's mostly the newbie furs or the blind ones that say the Fandom is fantastic
@@abithatsometimestrolls4080 I’m more of a newbie to the furry fandom only really getting properly involved this year I’m already scared of most of the ppl here
6:19 thank you for mentioning this nasty trend in Japanese romance movies.

I like that Onward was so high it’s an extremely underrated movie that I absolutely loved.
Agreed
As a sibling whose father wasn't around much (due to divorce), I cried at the end when Ian sacrificed for his big brother. And if a movie does that, it's automatically good.
I agree, I cried during the movie
I think we can all agree that Cartoon Saloon and Laika really deserve to win an Oscar to catapult them into the spotlight. They’re both incredible and yet they get a fraction of the viewers and revenue that Disney, Pixar, DreamWorks and *shudders* Illumination get.
Update: Wolfwalkers missed out on winning best animated picture at the Golden Globes, which Missing Link won last year. The chances aren’t looking good for the Oscars. I’ll come back again when they’re announced.
Update again: Mission failed, we’ll get em next time (hopefully)
Cartoon Saloon has never made a film that earned back it’s budget and that saddens me deeply.
Song of the Sea did actually. Just.
LAIKA made Coraline. I fully agree.
A 2d animated movie winning could change history
Agreed, but you seem to have forgotten that Spirited Away won in 2002. Wolfwalkers winning would still be monumental, but it wouldn’t be the first time a 2D film won. Still, given the dominance of 3D films, it would still be a massive shock to see.

@@pokemaniac0075 I'm not watching Wolfwalkers because it's furry crap (even more so than Zootopia) and requires subscribing to a streaming service with that as the only worthwhile thing on there. I'm not wasting $6 on getting a subscription to a crap service that I'll probably forget about and be charged more money for later. If Wolfwalkers just released on Netflix it would be just as popular as Klaus was last year. I know Apple TV is only $6 and if it was a rent for $6 people would watch it but since it's literally "furries the movie" (the main characters literally turn into wolves and stay that way. Every furry's wet dream) a lot less people will watch it because they will be judged. My brother still refuses to see Zootopia because every character in an anthro but even then that movie is less furry than Wolfwalkers because humans don't exist in the universe of Zootopia and there's no furry transformation scene. What's wild to me about Candace vs. the Universe is just how much of it was made during the pandemic. I know it wasn't the only one, but seeing the process unfold on Dan Povenmire's TikTok was awesome.
My list of movies I watched:
1- Soul - A great movie that discusses death to celebrate life and has great messages about trauma and dreams. I’m really mixed about the ending but I think I would have the same opinion if it didn’t happen.
2- We Bare Bears The Movie is a perfect ending of the series with a great message of inclusion and I really wasn’t expecting it to be a immigration allegory (even though the show had some heavy themes throughout) but it had some annoying and outdated memes jokes
3- Candace against the Universe - A great revival of the series with an amazing writing and totally unexpected character growth for the lead character
4- Onward - Not amazing but pretty fun movie
5- JLD: Apokolips War - I love the main characters arcs but I don’t like that all the undeveloped characters died in 5 minutes so they never got proper arcs of their own. Even though I really liked the ending I reallythink Flash should’ve done something in this movie prior to the ending (and it’s pretty obvious that it was going to be another Teen Titans and Batman movie but they decided to end the continuity)
6- Ben 10 vs The Universe The Movie has a great arc for Ben, Kevin and Vilgax.
