Great video and thanks for some of the tool part numbers. Nice to know what you use and some of the tools you alter to make work more better. Good to know...Borg Warner then Raybestos on the frictions, Transgo on the shift improvement kits and Sonnax.
Thank you for your work Hiram. Can we use a 4L60E from a 4.8L engine and put it in on a 5.3L engine? do we need to flash/ reprogram? 2006 4.8L trany on a 2000 5.3L Silverado extended cab. OLDSKOOL TRIED & TESTED
It'll work just fine , some '06 have an input speed sensor. It can be used on earlier models with no issues. Earlier models can't be used for later models and that have the sensor. It will shift hard and flag a code. Check the 1-2 Accumulator spring, if it has only 1 use the ones from the earlier one. If it has 2 It'll be good..
Hey Hiram how's things, just your Aussie viewer here ;) Great video and most informative tear down! Just for your own knowledge if your interested I have that same transmission in my V6 powered VY Holden Commodore. It was fitted to these models here Holden Commodore (VR, VS, VT, VX, VY, VZ, VE), 1993-2012..
Got to ask. How much of a transmission rebuild could be avoided with proper fluid changes? OEM lengths to me make no sense these days because the fluids did not change but the service interval did? I have in my vehicles changed transmission fluid every 2 years or 30K which ever comes first. And I make sure that the fluid I use either meets or exceeds the OEM specifications. How often do you recommend for fluid changes (I would love to hear from the channel creator)? I did have to rebuild my transmission once in my Town Car but I bought it used and the fluid upon initial change when I got the vehicle already showed signs of degradation including the OEM factory plug in the pan from Ford. A fluid change did help a little but it still needed the clutch packs replaced. Unfortunately the first rebuilder decided to use a custom rebuilt torque converter in contravention to what I specified. The new surfaces he bonded in the torque converter were not cured when he reassembled the torque converter. With friction material 2 inches deep in the transmission pan forced a full rebuild a second time by a different provider who replaced the failed torque converter and pulled the transmission apart to clean the friction out of the transmission. I was pissed. But in every previous vehicle I owned had the fluid changes done on the 2 year cycle and I never otherwise had any transmission failures. Does this sound right to you?
Man all I can say is Gracias!!! Always learn a ton. Question for you. What do you use to flush the coolers for these 4L60E's ?? Again I do appreciate the time and effort put into these videos.
Hiram, I'm seeing a ton of input drums with grooves in the aluminum teeth that mate with the reverse input clutch pack. Any thoughts on the possible causes for this issue? I have got all kinds of theories but would appreciate your thoughts. TIA and glad to see you doing these videos again.
I have a 1997 chevy c1500 with a 5.0L v8. I was wondering if you could help identify a replacement 4l60e. I'm not too sure of the small differences between models. Is there a number I should be looking for on a replacement transmission that will fit my vehicle? Thanks
I was hoping you could give me some advice got an 07 Chevy 1500 4 l60e transmission works fine but shifts extremely hard from 1st to 2nd I've already replaced the 1-2 accumulator and sprinting did not help can you steer me in the right direction thanks bud
Hiram I bought a used 4l60e for my 94 truck used.. the guy said it came out of a 94, but the trans is actually a 95.. will this work? the pump says PWM on it, can the pumps be modified to use on non PWM applications?
Hey Hiram, when converting an 8l90 4wd to 2wd, are there 2 plugs or places that need drilled out at the end of the trans to let fluid lube the output shaft bushing? I know a 2wd 6l80 has 2 holes that allow fluid to lube the output shaft bushing. Thanks!
Hey hiram Ima fan and a subscriber Have a 4l60e question for ya i have a car i got that has no gears fwd or reverse I took a line off and ran it to see if it had pressure and it seems to fluid come out pretty good Its a 01 yukon i appreciate any help thanks!

Gracias por compartir tus conocimientos 👍
estimado Maestro, mis saludos y solicitud para que haga video en español de estas transmisiones actualizado, solo he visto el desarmado.
It's not an Econoline, that's a Ford. the transmission your working on is GM

Also noticed no load springs on the 3/4 clutch pack in this video. Is that a difference in the new version?
Buen día, sigo éste tipo de programa algunos son en Español y otros en inglés, bueno sería que tuviera una opción para escucharlo en Español.

I was quoted 3500 to rebuild this exact late model transmission to oem with a few supporting mods. Is that price in line with where it should be?
Thank you!!
Bill
Surprise, surprise a special bolt to just pull the pump. I think tool makers and automotive manufacturers are in cohorts together. 😁
Sure does seem like it.
Please any help I want to put another Trans ( used) meanwhile I rebuild my original unit with beefed up parts! Thank you so much!!!!!!

can you use a 4L80E transmission on an older GM V6 3800 engine(1998-2002)? is there any hardware requirement or supporting modifications?

So what was wrong with it??
