    Yamaguchi's failed jump floater was the point that changed the momentum. Karasuno got a burst of determination after Yamaguchi's display of vulnerability.

    I completely understand tsukishima's frustration with kageyama here. Kageyama is playing kageyama's best volleyball here, but he's still basically thinking of everyone as pawns who he has to micro-manage. So kageyama picks both player and approach and that's super frustrating if you, as the player, think you have more to contribute than just being a swinging arm.

    Tsukishima as a character is honestly very hard to like in the first season (unless you’re like me and saw his cocky smirk and immediately fell in love lol). He’s rude, he makes fun of his teammates and their insecurities, and on top of all of that, he doesn’t really get much screentime after his introduction. Episode 22 is really the first time we get a closer glimpse at what he’s like as a player. He’s different from the other players on the team, because he isn’t overly excited about each play. You’ll notice that when everyone is cheering, you can almost always find Tsukishima in the background with a blank expression. For a guy that’s more like Hinata, I can see why you would instantly dislike him. He’s the moon- quiet, calm, and the opposite of the sun. But in this video, I was happy to see that you got excited upon seeing how Tsukishima really is as a player, when you watch him actually work with Kageyama and do what Tsukki does best -other than roast people- which is think. And it looked to me like you were enjoying it! Tsukishima is definitely difficult to like, but I think that would be the same for a lot of the characters in this series if you didn’t know what made them tick. So far, we’ve gotten backstories for nearly every character, but we haven’t seen a glimpse of Tsukishima’s yet. It’s hard to like a guy that comes across as an unmotivated asshole, and I completely understand why you wouldn’t like him, even if I got a little offended every time you talked down about him. But that’s because I know what makes him tick and what he’s really like, and I can’t put you at fault for not appreciating Tsukishima the way I do when you know nothing about him. It was nice to see you get excited over him when you got to see what he’s really like, and I can’t wait for you to get to know him the way the rest of us do! I think some of his plays will really excite you... though I am sorry to say that he doesn’t become less of an ass. But at least you’ll know why he’s an ass. It makes a difference I promise lmao.
    Sorry for the essay XD I binged watched all of your reactions today and I really love your content! Thanks for posting

    Side note: kageyama, hinata and even someone like Malfoy refer to their senpai (upperclassmen) with respect, as required by Japanese culture (which sees people with more experience than you as higher in the hierarchy). That's why "yes Sir" (translating the formal "yeah sure") towards Asahi aka manbun (and the other 2-3rd years)

  • @TheIrizarr
    @TheIrizarr 3 роки тому +1

    From the perspective of a martial artist (also applies to military) the use of sir is universal and not at all indicative of age. Interestingly in Japanese all the players are usually saying here when you see the translation of "yes, sir!" is a formal version of the word "yes". Respect is very integrated into the language and you can see that with the use of different words for specific social contexts as well as in the use of honorifics after names.

    Hiya Coach! Just found your channel - love this series and have checked out some of your others vids, they're badass! Thanks for the reaction content on this anime in particular. Not only is it nice to have sports advice but its cool to see you react too. My sis and I were both tall so we were athletes in high school. We also both took Japanese in college and have been to the Land of the Rising Sun a couple of times. It's her fault I binged Haikyuu on Crunchyroll and what led me here.
    Lol, the reason it's translated as "Yes, sir" is mostly just the juniors showing respect to the upperclassmen. But Suga does have some nice grey grandpaw locks , I'll give you that. (Very fashionable.) I effin' love the nicknames. I come up with them all the time for whatever I'm watching regardless if I know the names of the characters or not. (Spent most of my Game of Thrones binge referring to Jamie Lannister as Prince Charming From Shrek.) XD
    I call Seijoh Teal Team 6......because Oikawa's basically the leader of a tactical unit. Wait until you meet the Wild, Wild Cranberries and their coach, Count Olaf. (Arguably one of the only characters I don't like in this show.) Plus Captain Cranberry, Pennywise, Jpop, and (a bit later) Sierra Mist. There's also a team I refer to as Hooters. (but not for the reason you'd think). ;)
    Can't wait for you to see how the Crows take on more challenges via setbacks.victories. Keep up with the vball advice too. 🙏 I played basketball in hs but always wanted to try volleyball. (It just wasn't a thing where I lived.) Learning stuff from your vids makes me sort of want to join an intramural team somewhere.

    I've started to realize a lot of the influences that flued Kageyama's change of character throughout the show. I had realized before how Oikawa was his role model and likely his behavior towards Kags is responsible in part for Kageyama's self-possessed attitude in the beginning. I also noticed that Suga was a big part of Kageyama starting to change, but it wasn't until watching this reaction just now that I realized how Suga changed not only the way Kags played but also the way in which he interacted with his teammates. Kageyama changed when his role model changed, and I love that. It is a good reminder to always be aware of your actions and behavior because you never know who might be watching and imitating you.
    On another note, I love how convinced Coach is that Karasuno will win. I remember having that exact feeling when watching these episodes the first time. No spoilers on how it ends though!!!!!

    It's kinda sad to see the backstory of Kageyama, and maybe the main reason he ended up like he is is because of Oikawa. Like he was just a young kid who loved the sport, and he almost got decked for asking somebody he admired for help. I can definitely see how he would develop that "Gotta do it all myself" mentality after that.

      i don’t see how it’s oikawa’s fault at all how kags turned out. oikawa struggled with not being good enough but he never treated his team the way kags selfishly did. kags problem with wanting to win alone were his own. i’m not excusing what oikawa did but he said sorry and they both moved on from it. it’s not like he’s out here slapping ppl left and right. he broke down that one time. kags was fine right after it happened and the day after. he never held it against him. after that incident oikawa started working with his team and bringing out their strength. also oikawa isn’t obligated to teach him. would it be nice sure. but he has his own issues and he’s a kid too.

      @@blah409 Oikawa was an important role model for Kageyama. I'm not saying that Oikawa did it intentionally, but it probably did have a huge impact on Kag's mental. • @blah409

      ppl react to things in diff ways. oikawa and kags are diff. kags was oblivious to the whole thing. he is socially awkward and can’t read the room. he still asked him for help the next day. and again in the future. if it really affected him then why would he seek help from oikawa again. like how kags affects oikawa so he pushes kags away with pettiness. what happen to kags and how he turned out is reveal later on. he only ever talks about how amazing oikawa skills are and it terrifies him. he just wants to surpass him. that’s it. he knows oikawa has a terrible personality but he doesn’t care about that. i understand what your saying and yes some ppl would be affected but i just don’t see it in this situation. the way kags treated his teammates like crap for 3 yrs, that whole thing affected kindaichi way more than kunimi because everyone’s diff.
      i know some ppl will still think its oikawa fault in someway, even if it is i still don’t blame him cause kags isn’t his responsibility. ppl expects a lot from him when he’s a kid also dealing with his own struggles to take the time out to mentor a kid that is causing him stress. i would push him away too.
