Hip Hop Icon Robert Lee Taylor From The Movie Beat Street Talks About The Culture Live From The Pro Am Dance Expo Check out The Live Stream Sat Jun 12 @ 4pm Here www.sckmediatv.com
Lee, nice to see you again after long time, since 1984 in movie Beat Street in cinema and after I watched that movie on VHS casette and inserts on UA-cam many times, you are my favorite dancer od all time as Turbo from Breakin'. Thank you on this channel !
Beat Street changed mine & so many other lives when it was released here in the UK in 1984. The two 'Breakin' movies were good but Beat Street was amazing & on another level with the dancing & showing & educating all the elements of Hip Hop. Also the Breakin movies were glamorous with sunshine but Beat Street looked dark & gritty which most youngsters in the UK could relate to. Massive respect to the mighty legend Robert Lee Taylor & massive respect to you for making a awesome interview with him, thank you. Peace from the UK
I typed in Lee (Robert Taylor) today just to see & to my surprise I found this vid interview from a yr back. Leeee! Looking young & healthy 🙏🏼 God bless you brother! HIP HOP loves you! A legend no doubt. I still watch Beatstreet all the time. You shined bright w your dance moves & great acting. Hope to see more of you. Peace & love!
Remember way back in the day of seeing Rob in the hallways of my H.S. (NY SCHOOL OF PRINTING. NOW KNOWN AS HS OF GRAPHIC COMMUNICATION ARTS) while changing classes. Cool dude.
Rest in Peace Kuriaki (devastating windmill in the historic breaking dance scene at the Roxy) and Buck4 (original members of the legendary Rock Steady Crew).

I have the up most respect for Me. Taylor as a Celebrity who takes the time for his family. My grandson was watching beat street on his fifth birthday. He really was really into Lee's dance moves n it was a
Sad day for my baby cuz his grandma died on that day. I am friends with Robert on Facebook n I sent him a message. He didn't answer me he called me on messenger n spoke to my grandbaby. That act of kindness on his behalf not only meant the world to my grandson but to me as well cuz it brought a smile to Jah Jah face but to mine as well. Robert is such a kind soul may God continue to bless him and I truly wish him much continued success
I was born in 1970 in northern New Jersey, heard hip hop first hit the radio airwaves in NYC in around 79'-ish, was already breakdancing in a crew called Floorlords by 1982 and when Beat Street came out Lee became my cultural hero of that time. And I can't begin to calculate how many times I've watched that Roxy battle (and the entire movie really) over and over. I hope Lee sees this comment one day and sees how much I appreciate his humble attitude and contribution to the culture! 🙌
Man I really miss those days. I remember my first time traveling to NY from VA @12 or 13 seeing the big city for the 1st time blew me away. Seeing The graffiti on subways in person rather in "Right On" magazines was no comparison. The thing I never had a chance to witness while I was there was breaking. Seeing Beat Street on the big screen is something I'll never forget. I can say that's when I fell in love with HIP HOP.
Breaking is alive and well @candycane9264. It's ALL OVER youTube. It's just that it's underground. You don't see major artists hiring B-Boys commercially. They'd rather hire booty dancers instead of B-Boys. But, you're going to see breaking in the upcoming summer Olympics. There's nothing to revive. You even see a little breaking in the You Got Served and all those Step Up movies. It's changed but it's still around.
Thanks for this interview of one of Hip-hop greatest influencers Robert Taylor, I hope he speaks more on the culture. #BeatStreet #RobertTaylor #Lee #Breakdancing #HipHop

Legendary b-boy movie, don't forget wildstyle, also great, less budget, If you notice Lee didn't wear a matching tracksuit like the NYC Breakers(beat street) did, bcuz he wasn't a member, maybe that's also why his battle moves were limited, he probably wouldn't have, but they weren't taking a chance he outshined his b- boy crew in the movie
That Roxy battle looked it was multiple takes...unless it's just the editing. Whatever, awesome movie. I got into art, graffiti because of ramo..lol..then I graduated, I'm an artist/ Illustrator for dark horse comics. 👍🏻💯
"Yo Ramo: When you gonna teach me that style man? 'Practice up on it.' 'I like you man.'" Me and my childhood friend, John "DJ Vicious J" Parker used to watch Beat Street over the telephone and could recite every line, word for word. Crazy! What I never understood was during the infamous battle at the Roxy, why didn't Lee do the classic routine he did later in the movie, when he did donkeys, suicide flip and the classic 1990 move? During the battle, all he did was a little footwork, followed by a backspin. And if you really pay close attention, while he's doing his routine, he had a knee brace on but after he finishes his backspin and gets up, the knee brace magically disappears. Nonetheless, Beat Street was an absolute classic. #NewYorkCityBreakers #BeatStreet #HipHop4Life #BoomBap #SoulCityBreakers
Lee had doubles the Roxy battle was relatively routine but the hard stuff another kid did all of that. This came from a guy in NYCB who was in the movie. I won't call his name I don't want it to come off as hate he told me this in 1986 at W. 4th St at the court..
Wild Style came out before Flashdance but very limited release . Wild Style I think came out in 1982 . For me the first time I have seen Breakdancing was the BUFFALO GALS video with RSC and MALCOLM MCLAREN . The first time for most people seeing Breakdancing live in person is when Top Masters Crew led by ledgandary B Boy OZROCK who was a member of RSC in a club on LANDSDOWN ST right next to Fenway Park in 1983 and they performed to the instrumental of SUCKER MCs by RUN DMC . I was there . Became a full on BBOY after that night . Was already a Dj by 1982 working on cutting and matching beats thanks to inspiration from GRAND MASTER FLASH
Meant to say for most people from BOSTON seeing breakdancing live in person was in a roller skating rink called SPIN OFF which was converted in a a under 21 dance club on SATURDAY night called DANCE FACTORY . after TMC performed that night . BBOY crews formed all overb Greater Boston including FLOORLORDS and the DEVASTATING ROCKETS which was the crew I was in
Wow . Though it don’t actually believe that battle in the Roxy ( if that’s what they were talking about ) was done in one take . There is a continuity error in the film where Lee or Robert was wearing a knee pad prior to going into his back spin and then when he actually does it , it’s gone .

Lee was bad ass on Beat street. Sad what happened to Bucky and kuriaki Long Live Bboying
Wow . Though it don’t actually believe that battle in the Roxy ( if that’s what they were talking about ) was done in one take . There is a continuity error in the film where Lee or Robert was wearing a knee pad prior to going into his back spin and then when he actually does it , it’s gone .
