Your on some next level. Love you brother. I have a Marrema sheep dog in ITALY 🇮🇹 . 3 months old. He was tough at first. You have been a blessing Sir. Thank you so much.
So glad I watched this. I used some of these techniques with my 5 month old pup this evening and it was a truly different experience with him in my backyard. So grateful for this content.
This came suggested at a really good time. So much focus on training, that I am missing just taking my GSD for walks in the woods, just the two of us. Also, nice reality check on the kids. I needed that, too.
So true, I ve done diabolic training until 4 mo then I stopped. Now I need to just be with my dog and bc he’s already trained in basics the pup just does things and he’s so chill. We re done with training and now do life things like waiting at the bus stop with bunch of ppl, or hiking on trails , or going into stores. And like you say nothing is more rewarding than my morning coffee with my dog at my feet ❤️
Thank you so much Larry. I'm not exactly burned out but I am training a new pup for work as a psych service dog and I do training here and there for others, but I often struggle to find my balance between training and enjoying the dogs I work with. I really needed this.
We got a puppy about 6 weeks ago,She's about 18 weeks old. I've watched hours of you videos and they have helped me so much. I get the burn-out and frustration end of things, and this is with only one puppy. When I get to my wits end I just watch more of your videos and it gets my head back in the game. Thank you for all the work you do making these videos,I'd be lost without them....Peace!
This is exactly I what I’m going through now with my 3 month rottweiler and I feel like people are afraid to admit they have a weak bond with their dog/puppy for what ever reason. But thank you this gave me hope and motivation to stay positive.
THANK YOU!! This is exactly the issue with my lab mix. She’s absolutely bonded to me, but definitely decides when she wants to engage with me. This is such a creative solution to avoid conflict or me calling to her constantly. I’m putting it into practice the second I get home!! Also, THANK YOU for posting these videos. I watch a lot of trainers on YT, listen to podcasts, and used to volunteer before I decided to raise my own pup. Your videos have been the most useful BY FAR. They’re clear, straightforward, and have actual examples without just theory. Your conversation about the German Shepard who refused to “out” a toy and you were able to access his curiosity to switch off the possessiveness was amazing. Being able to communicate is one thing, but starting the dialogue in the first place is a step I didn’t even realize would be so important. Thank you!!
I love everything. about this video. You answered questions I didn’t even know I had yet regarding how I would handle others wanting to pet my puppy in public,. Also, this video says just so much about your character. I love watching your videos because I think your are an incredible and moral ally fair trainer, but I think you are just a really good guy too! Thanks again!
I'm so glad I saw this video. I've watched hundreds of dog videos because I don't want to make any mistakes with our new dog and I forgot about just having fun with it. Thanks Larry Happy Thanksgiving
Hi Larry, This was an excellent video and just what I needed to hear! I've trained German Shepard before when I was a lot younger and fitter ! Now I have a three month old GS and have got so carried away with the training and work aspect that I too have forgotten to just have fun. So this morning I did our morning walk off leash for the first time and she was a star. She never let me get more than about twenty feet behind her. When I did she sat and waited til I caught up. I never thought she would do that! We live on thirty fenced off 30 acres- can you believe I had never let her off leash before! Crazy ! Anyway thanks so much for your excellent talks and training advice! You are very real and sensible about training. Let's all enjoy our polite dogs cause we only have them cause we love them!
I have a 12 week old female Malinois and I am going through this EXACT thing with her. She was so into learning in the first few weeks and now it’s like we have hit a brick wall and all she wants to do is play with my other dogs. Thank you for this video. Your other stuff has gotten me pretty far with her so I am hoping we can get over this hump, too.
This is the perfect video for me right now, I've just taken on a 7month old rescue, some sort of mix collie, gsd, husky I think. Only had him a week and I want to get a head start on training because I'm 7 months behind but I struggle with getting him exited and interested in me and play, so I will definitely try this so I can keep him engaged even when I don't have treat rewards for him or when I'm not training. Does the exact same thing with toys when I can get him to play with toys
Thank you so much Larry. This is the first video that has described exactly my own frustration with my 19 month old border collie/Retriever cross dog. He will only engage when he wants to. Fantastic when he does but he drives me mad when he chooses the finger. I'm not enjoying him as much as I should be. I'm going to try the engagement tactic you've described and see what happens. Really appreciate all the videos Larry. I can totally understand how you can get a bit burnt out trying to keep up with the demand for knowledge from all of us dog owners. It's very much appreciated.
Off all the UA-cam videos out there, you are truly the best. I have used most of your advice on my Australian Sheperd and she is just the best dog in the world. I recomend your videos to all my dog friends. You are even very popular here in Norway. Keep up the good work Larry😀😀👍👍
Forest is amazing.. Competition work. Hes spot on just like you.. Such intense work to begin with the end in mind makes you strive!! So many awesome people here!! Thank you!
Thanks dude, my 7 mo gsd is top of her obedience class but i have been really burned out w training. You made me think of my first dog, no obedience wizard but my best friend and the sweetest girl. I have to remember that she will only be a puppy for so long...good advice for my 3 yo daughter too 😂
I love this!!! I try to take my Mal out twice a week to a local creek for fetch and for him to sniff around in nature. It’s peaceful and I have a lot of laughs from the crazy stuff he does. He’s an anxious fearful guy so these moments are just about having fun. Thank you for everything you give us through your videos.
This has really helped me too Larry! Bahaha it puts me at ease to hear all the ways you’re bettering yourself because I know I can follow in your footsteps!
Thanks for sharing, probably one of the most important videos out there. I'm about to get 9 week old puppy and have been on UA-cam trying to learn as much as I can. It seems overwhelming that people are trying to train dogs so strictly that it seems almost like it's better not to have a dog. I recognize that there is a diference between spoiling a puppy and training them as if they're a robot. It's a fine balance because if you don't train them and they're out of control you will lose joy in having them and they'll end up abandoned. But if you're overzealous in training them you also lose sight in why you wanted a puppy in the first place. Thank you again for sharing this story!
Great episode! I had problems taking my dog to the baseball field to watch my son. My cocker spaniel was focused on everyone else and I was a little embarrassed by his behavior. Can’t wait to try some of the suggestion in the video
Dear Larry , first of all I personaly really enjoy all nor videos , and all the hard work you put in to your dogs , your clients dogs , and every dog really you come across of. But I would like to say ( you probably won't even respond to this ) I get it u busy , but as I said I would like to say 1thing , your pets , your family needs you , needs your attention before any of us do. They deserve your relaxed self , just to chill and go for a walk on the beach and stuff , so please don't put your self to a burn out position , because who ever likes and follow you here , or IG or FB we will be exeited and happy for you . if its 1-2 vids/ month or its a 30 video / month , so please kick back and enjoy living . you are a great help , I am a new trainer in school and I just love your ways :) so thank you for everything.
Thank you so much for the video! I am struggling with something similar with my little Mal. It’s my first Mal and it’s gotten me off to a discouraging note. But I have been so worried about doing everything so right with him I think it’s had me a little distracted from how much I just love my dogs. So thanks for the video! It had some really great tips for me to try.
I have been waiting for this video since I started working my gsd puppy. 10months old now. This is a game changer. This perfectly articulated my frustrations with my dog. Larry for the win.
I have wanted a dog for some time over 30 years or so .I now have a puppy i listen to everything and take information from everyone, i take what i think will work for me and i try to apply it to my new puppy . I am 4 days into this relationship and what you said in the first film i ever saw of yours was that you dont sleep when you get a puppy until the puppy is comfy and can hold its own toilet times to a schedule sort of thing ,well first night i didnt sleep much every 90 mins i would take him to the garden wait until he releived himself and then just give him some time, the 2nd night the same and so on by the 3rd night he was lasting for over 6 hrs he has made a mistake but only once and i am so glad i did this i am tired but i am also proud of my puppy giving him my time is the best thing i think i can do for him .please continue with the smart advice i am hooked i love learning thank you
You’re a great guy Larry. You have a great work ethic and you’re passionate about your work. At least you’re smart enough to self evaluate and change it up. Great stuff.
Thanks for the video Larry, I needed to hear it too. I have a now 15month old Doberman and I have put a ton of effort into trying to train her, and satisfy her mentally and physically each day - I mean a ton. I'm just an amateur trainer so a lot of it was frustrating for me. The frustration is from my own preconceived expectations and then reality creates a mismatch. I should be spending more effort to enjoy her....Thanks for the video
Thanks Larry! - I have a 11 week old Rottweiler pup ‘ Radar’ I am trying my best to expose him to as many experiences as possible, people, kids, water etc. etc. He seems to be doing well however I have the ‘is there anything in it for me?’ Also he can get pretty aggressive at times trying to nip my legs and the leash. - It seems this behavior tends to occur directly after he sees something new or experience’s something new. My question is Is the motive for the behavior latent fear ( fear after the fact).? Or am I doing something wrong?- When he acts like this I put him down. The battle can go on for several minutes we’re I’m holding him on his back and he’s trying to bite me. Thank you for all the content you put out. It helps a lot. You always seem to discuss problems I’m having and your content and advice give me confidence for which I’m very grateful!
I just gotta say I'm really enjoying your videos and am getting a lot out of it. Not only preparing for the new puppy I'm anxiously waiting to be born, but also relating to past rotts I've had and different experiences with their training or behavior. I want this puppy to play frisbee!!! My last rott wasn't interested besides going over to it when it landed and pissing on it! It was very disappointing! LoL
Before engagement training, Mango sounds exactly like my puppy!!! He is just super unimpressed by me. Will start using your training tips and hopefully turn him around!
@@gatlingoodman9772 I'm fostering a 6yr old dog part time and the dog has shown that he's not very interested in me and the training, and has never actually played tug or chased a ball. He's taken the tug toy a couple of times but weakly, and I let him win, but he just then turns around and drops it, end of play. There's something I saw Larry do casually but I haven't seen him talk about. He gives reluctant dogs playful pushes on the side just behind the front leg. So I tried pushing the dog around when he was engaging with me and we had our first tug of war. Another thing I learned is that he was bored with my training because I didn't proceed at a fast rate of more and more and different commands quicker and closer together, so we made more progress today than usual. A big deal that he played tug with spirit for the first time. Pushing him around a bit did it.
@@gatlingoodman9772 I'm going to be paying more attention to what Larry is actually doing, things that he might not think about. I just remembered something...Caesar Milan pokes dogs there as a correction and he says dogs poke there as a correction. hmmm...I like the friendly push...but there might be something in what he says, although it never worked as a correction when I tried it.
Love you videos Larry. I find the content of your videos extremely informative & interesting & educational. Great content. Keep up the good work mate. All the best.
Love the information you cover on this video. And I wish this publication included a link to the podcast that you spend the second half of the video talking about.
That was amazing video! Enjoy watching and has helped me with our Great Dane/ Mastiff puppy who is just 6 1/2 months now. Would love to hear your thoughts on her with other dogs passing our house. I have used food in my pockets for awhile now, which was interesting to hear you say that. Thank you for your time you put into these videos for all of us.
Aaaamen. There’s something about the reprieve of an off leash well behaved dog and just being with them...like we want them to be with us. Great reminder.
This maybe the best advice I have received concerning puppy engagement. It is so frustrating when it happens. Only advice I get is you have to be more animated, use a different currency, you boring. I did all those things, toys, different food currency, bring the excitement, and my 5 month old would look at me like I was crazy. Thank you for this video, if it can happen to a great trainer like yourself then it definitely can happen to me Can not wait to try your suggesting tomorrow THANK YOU
Wonderful video as usual my dog is German Shepherd Saint Bernard mix a little cuckoo but he and my children basically all I have in this world wonderful to have all of their love the children and the dog enjoy your family God bless
Join the Dog Nerd club. You're right though ,enjoy your dogs. I spent an hour in the Sea watching her learn to swim. All the worries dropped away and peace prevailed,Best hour I've spent with my Girl in ages. Nothing worse then being blown off by a young pup :) Been there :) Nice ,yet important video. Thanks Larry
Thanks Larry, same goes for my horses. 10 horses, seems like it’s all about training. Only training and you’re right, exhausting. Question: if you had taken your dog, say, like the soccer field and Mango didn’t behave, would you have let him misbehave, or realize you have holes in the training and do the training then and there.?
Hi there, I'm training a 5month old dutchie. He has basic obedience, but we're having basic issues because he loses interest quickly. What do you recommend for an older pup that will NOT release a toy for food. He will out for another toy, but not for food. He's not horrible, but doesn't see huge value in bringing the toy back to me.. Do you have a video somewhere? Thanks
Thank you for these videos! It makes me feel like I'm not lost with training our new husky. How did you train your dogs to leave things alone? I know you teach the "leave it" command but I couldn't find a video on how you taught that.
Hello, I've been following your videos for a long time, you're such an amazing trainer and person and i really mean it, you helped me raising my gsd pup, i just have some questions and i am wondering where can i message you?thanks God bless you, your family and your dogs
I love Work and Dogs I live in Saint George Utah haven’t found a good trainer anywhere he can ever give me some advice I will prescient that I complete it in competition obedienceAfter that got really ill so I cannot follow through open to do this again for the rest of my life and never change
Hey Larry, I was wondering, how can I use the method where you feed out of your pocket to train getting your dog’s attention when there are 2 dogs involved and not a lot of space to keep them seperated? Greetings from The Netherlands.
Hi Larry ! Can you point me in the right direction to some of your training for walking. I have a 1.5 year old German Shepherd who is the ABSOLUTE WORST on a leash. He will pull me right down the road. He won’t listen when i tell him to heel or to not pull. I’ve tried a harness, pinch collar, normal collar. I’m not sure what to do. He’s so stubborn. He gets way too excited when we take him for walks to the point I don’t even want to take him for one because he’s pulling so hard the entire time. He’s a little over 100lbs and very strong. Thank you !
I have a 3year old German Sheppard husky that I adopted from a shelter last yer. I spent the first 6 months with her day in and day out building a strong bond with her. We worked really slowly on her spending time home alone and now shes ok. But my biggest problem is that I cant get her attention. I know she knows her name but when i call her she wont even look at me unless i have food. Ive been working on "look at me" or "focus" whatever command you'd like to call it but when anything else is happening, i mean anything she has no interest in me at all. How do I get her attention?
Did he ever do a video on this concept that he’s talking about? I have a 10 wk border collie/malinois mix that I just adopted a week ago. He is VERY food motivated which is great!! However, I live in an apartment complex and don’t have anywhere fenced in to practice this with him and to transition him into being off leash. He will play and respond to my commands with food but he becomes very disinterested in me and some of his toys VERY quickly. I need to get him dependent on me ASAP!
Hi Larry. Thanks for awesome videos. I have a GSD puppy 4.5 months old. Please answer these 2 questions: 1. My dog does everything when I'm teaching him (i.e. when I hold the food or toy as reward) but he's not as responsive during the day. How can I improve his response to commands. Especially when I call him to "come" if he's holding something valuable to him (maybe a bone) he even runs away from me because he knows I'll take it from him. 2. He suddenly started barking at EVERYTHING. When some family member comes into the room, when someone enters the house, when someone is passing in the street. And it's getting annoying. I searched around and tried to teach him "Speak" and "Quiet" but I can't find anything that makes him bark every time. Meaning he barks at it but when I try to repeat he doesn't anymore. How can I make him stop barking? My friend says maybe it's his "fear stage" and will go away after a month.
For 1- you need to gain the dogs trust try by feeding the dog by hand and also to get an immediate response use impulse training And for 2- try socializing him more often and carry treats to reward, i suggest you start clicker training for basic obedience because it fixes alot of problems.
My puppy blanks me all the time so this video really struck a chord with me. Thank you larry. Every video you put up helps me in some way shape or form. Check out my latest video if you wouldnt mind. If you have the time i would like your opinion on what you see. Thanks Larry.
How do you know what length contact point to choose for your dog? I’ve got a 6-year-old German Shepherd with, what I consider, thick fur and a 4-month-old German Shepherd with pretty thin fur (no undercoat yet, I’d assume). The pup hasn’t started ecollar training yet, but I would think both dogs wouldn’t need the dame contact point length.
R.L. Duck look at the previous videos he mentions that contact point lengths aren’t necessary try placing it very high and under the ear make sure its tight and when you move the collar it moves the dogs neck, then move the transmitter up and down to dig it into the fur, but also use a deshedding brush because some hairs could block the contact
Timely, my new 2 year old rescue won't bring back toys either. I also misunderstood your marker word from watching the videos, I had understood that the marker was to mark the good behaviour and that it was important NOT to reward every time to keep them guessing.
Can you do a video on how to transition from giving food as reward to no food? I've been training my 18 month old rottie and he's great when you have food but without it he's not so good.
I have a puppy that will be 7 weeks old this Friday. I got him at 4 weeks old because the mother quit caring for him. I just got a crate today. He hates being confined. And he wants to rule the roost. Man is he a handful! He knows "here", "sit", "down", "out" and "potty". But he wants to be a pay me dog if he's in the mood. He's smart. He loves milk and will sit and wait with big puppy dog eyes while I get it ready. Everyone kept telling me he was too young to train because he's just a baby. BS! He has already learned bad habits from not being crated.
This ol video hits hard. I’m glad I found it and will rewatch it many times in the future as a reminder.
I swear you’re the most sincere guy on the internet, Larry. 💯

Loved this video. Really hit home completely.😊
You and Haz , of Shield K9 , are great . Very Knowledgeable and know How to explain things . Thank You So Much For All You Do !!!
The soccer story is gold. I found you from an Interview with Robert Cabral and I am binge watching your videos. Thank you for all you do Larry.

Great advice on getting your puppy to engage!!
I needed this. I just recently got a new puppy intended as a personal dog and I’ve been stressing out over family interacting too much with him
Hey Larry I just wanna say that you are an awesome dude. I have learned so much from you and I keep doing it. Greets from Germany
Will start using your training tips and hopefully turn him around!
the exact same with my 8 week old rottweiler pup. Did this work for you?
@@thankmelater1254 thank you!
Every Siberian Husky owner: "wait, normal dogs care about what you say and want to listen to you?!"
Ty for all you do.
Love you videos Larry. I find the content of your videos extremely informative & interesting & educational. Great content. Keep up the good work mate. All the best.
Love your video , can you tell us what toys are best for puppy Chihuahua to be exact
Love the information you cover on this video.
And
I wish this publication included a link to the podcast that you spend the second half of the video talking about.
Thank you. I am grateful for you.
Wow....I thought it was just me, my friend! Thank you for this video!
I truely agree! You're an awesome dog trainer!
Thank you for this video, if it can happen to a great trainer like yourself then it definitely can happen to me
Can not wait to try your suggesting tomorrow
THANK YOU
did this work for you?

Wonderful video as usual my dog is German Shepherd Saint Bernard mix a little cuckoo but he and my children basically all I have in this world wonderful to have all of their love the children and the dog enjoy your family God bless
I wished i lived closer to you. I absolutely loved this video! And gives me so much hope for my malinois
Thanks Larry. Timely for me as well.
Love!! Love times infinity!!
Very nice story 👍🏻
thanks dude. had some extra fun with my dogs today.
Thanks! I needed that.
Great video!!
watched several of your videos m8, subscribing!
Thanks
Can I use leave it when my pup trying to bite?
Hey Larry, do you train protection dogs too?
Thank you !
What are your favorite podcasts?
Amen brother!
What a great video, I have the same problem with my Mal and she is almost 6 months old and I'm afraid it's gonna get worse 😣😣😣
Hi Larry how do u make your 14 week old rotty pup walk. We go to the yard and he wants to lay in the grass and eat grass.
YOU should do a video on losing a dog. Or dealing with the death of a dog. I feel like you'd give good advice.
Hey Larry . Do you have a link to the Podcast please?
Hi Laura. If you go to Itunes or spotify, type in the canine paradigm and you will find it
Thanks Glenn, much appreciated.I don't have itunes and no idea what Spotify is lol. I will Google these things :)

Hi Larry. Thanks for awesome videos. I have a GSD puppy 4.5 months old. Please answer these 2 questions:
BTW, when I took him to vet the other day he didn't let the vet touch him. He's usually very calm around him.
For 1- you need to gain the dogs trust try by feeding the dog by hand and also to get an immediate response use impulse training
And for 2- try socializing him more often and carry treats to reward, i suggest you start clicker training for basic obedience because it fixes alot of problems.
Thanks so much for the video, sounds like my 5 months Belgium Malinois
Sounds like my dog, lol! Thank you for making this video. You should have way more subs!!!
My puppy blanks me all the time so this video really struck a chord with me. Thank you larry. Every video you put up helps me in some way shape or form. Check out my latest video if you wouldnt mind. If you have the time i would like your opinion on what you see. Thanks Larry.
my 3-month-old puppy isn't interested in any toys! any tips?
I can’t wait to try this with my dog. Sounds just like your dog! He does the same thing while playing fetch. Thank you!
I tried this with my JRT and she did great. A dog barked at her through a fence and instead of engaging like she usually does she walked away with me.
Can you do a video on how to transition from giving food as reward to no food? I've been training my 18 month old rottie and he's great when you have food but without it he's not so good.
hehe Mango sounds like a Briard... my male Briard looks at me like I'm crazy sometimes when I ask him to come.
I really wish you has Thais expirience on video. Mango Is beautiful
lol Same with my puppy and I do same I use his meal to get his attention
I have a puppy that will be 7 weeks old this Friday. I got him at 4 weeks old because the mother quit caring for him. I just got a crate today. He hates being confined. And he wants to rule the roost. Man is he a handful! He knows "here", "sit", "down", "out" and "potty". But he wants to be a pay me dog if he's in the mood. He's smart. He loves milk and will sit and wait with big puppy dog eyes while I get it ready. Everyone kept telling me he was too young to train because he's just a baby. BS! He has already learned bad habits from not being crated.
"anything dog I'm doing"
All owners dogs should been eating the same food! Jajajaja we have the same organs, is thrust¡
My dog chokes on kibble lol
