"Of course I love yuh, I fuck yuh and buy yuh chips don't I?"
The most Limerick thing I've ever heard
Gud wan ha!
"I wouldn't give him the steam off my piss!" well, I have a new insult
😂😂😂😂😂😂
"Yer one" is the most Limerick I've ever heard, also "Its my birthday!!!'" and "Thats bad form"
I've lived in Limerick all my life and i can tell you that both accents in this Video are genuine Limerick accents. Ok theres loads of expressions like "tackies" , "give you a boot in the forehead","C'mere i want ya" that are not in it. But then again theres only so much you can fit into a short Video. Well done lads I love it.
Only realised now that I talk like this.... I'm from Limerick 😂
neidin savage Hi! I know this is going to sound weird but I'm from the United States and I'll be studying in University of Limerick next year...any advice or anything that I should know before I go? Thanks for the help!
Caroline Crasnick What would you like to know? :-)
Thanks for the help! Since there's a lot of slang in Limerick, what are some phrases that people use a lot that I should know? Where are the best places to go and what are some things that I should see before I leave? What is it like in Limerick in general?
Thanks so much again!
I think that just as long as you know that when they talk about 'crack', (the craic) you know that they're NOT talking about what you think. :-)
I actually knew that one! But thank you :) if you think of anything else important let me know!
Come here, I'll tell you a question.
come here to me now
I didn't get half of what they have said!
Ranjan Biswas You'd only understand if you're from Limerick (I understood everything)
Bam Itz Millie I'm from tipp and I understand it all. get off yer high horse haha this is Irish talk not just limerick
Did the dude say "She's got a face like a plasterers radio?" That's not the context to which I know that phrase, it would suggest she's out in public with spaff all over her face. Apart from that we use half of these phrases in Dundee, which isn't even in the same country.
A good insult has a less sensitive meaning at times, so I'd say they took it up innocently to be about make up.
She will learn, who gives a shit about him?
0:27 The "watch him off" sums up limerick in one ha ha
I live in Limerick and it soo true
stuart pot /2D Do you know anyone called Lilly btw? She is into a lot of things I can see you are.
Bam Itz Millie
It depends on which lilly you're talking about XD
Jewelled Pixel Lilly O'Carrol
I'm from cork but I have to say I love the Limerick accent.
UP LIMERICK
YES!!
YES
UP THE ISLAND!!!
@@marjorierene427 yah see u say nothing now fucking muppet
I live in limerick that is so true
Hit count says it all. A huge success. Well done to everyone involved. This vid was made at the perfect time. Ye could have spent weeks compiling Limerickisms but you'd get nowhere near the response later in the year. Congrats.
0:16 "the tide wouldn't even take her out" ;)
the toilet*
My favourite is the third sigh with the hand gesture!!!
I grew up 20 miles from limerick city.its my home town.limerick people are my people.they are the best.am so proud of the people and the place.
this is brilliant....seriously well done
Also it was very intentional by everyone involved in this video to use sayings and phrases generic to all Limerick people, not just to those of particular socio economic backgrounds. There are also many variations of the Limerick accent, from the thick working class to a clear well pronounced upper middle class accent. Accents both covered in this video.
Love it, many of the slang used here we had where I grew up..
needs subtitles, irish accent might be not understandable...
daniel ryan why do you think I've got French accent? I might be not from Quebec, Canada is huge
Dennis Alexander gway u fool
Can someone write out what they're saying? I'm from Texas and can't understand a word.
u don't even understand english LOL
very sad.
loving this
I went in in Cork and met lady from Limerick - I
Couldn’t understand word but she was the sweetest person I ever met and i pretend I
Understand everything- I was thinking I
Can speak English but this is black belt of twisting word . Irish making this planet better place with you warm attitude!
"I wouldn't give him the steam off my piss!" Brilliant!! XD "I'll tell you a question." Lol good ole Chicken Hut. Ye left out a good few things though.
We already have, it's just that they're all up north in Antrim and Down.
"Limerician" is the correct term
"Of course I love ya! I wanna buy you chips don't I?" :D lol
Actually he says "I fuck you and I buy you chips don't I?". A bit sexist.
I've heard my friend from there say every one of these
the guy with the beard sounds hilarious LOL you don't even know what they saying but by their body language, the way it sounds and facial reaction is funny
@shaneserrano Well said Shane! I think the girls accent is more of a middle class Limerick accent. Kind of accent you would hear on the bus out to UL while the lads accent would be typical Limerick. Won't use the word scumbag or scobie as I know plently of people (including myself!!) who would sound like these but are actually fairly nice down to earth people. Btw did you direct some Rubberbandits videos.
Cork has a lot of common slang with Limerick slang.
well I know cause I'm from kildare/Ireland
"Don't mind him love, he's only a bollocks"
So you see a clip where they use the phrase specifically because it is widely used. Then you conclude that it isn't a widely used phrase because ...
the chips thing is straight from "The Commitments"
Brilliant.
Born in limerick but I live in cork and only now I realise that half the shite I say is only said in limerick
What language is this?
English. Spoken in a Limerick accent.
I've come to the conclusion that Cork and Limerick accents and slang are the exact same!
most are cork words aswell.
James keanan not necessarily .. if they're used in Limerick they're obviously not cork words
リア !! huh?
Fuck Cork
@@forenamesurname9630 fuck you
The girl was crap but the boy nailed it
@jointz666 ive heard it a few times i think its only the girls from castletroy that say that
"i'll tell you a Question!" gas
Sound a lot like the cork accent.
not really
lovely accent
@paddypride Very alike except the Limerick accent tends to be more nasal and the Cork one is sing songy!!! That said the slang words are similar. Which is to be expected as they are neighbouring counties.
havent heard most of that tbh
Dju know the way in limerick city they go like well loveee
@Jonathan19304 nope, its 'i rides ya, an i buys ya chips' (the Dont i' is optional tho).
@Arthur3835 Thanks, and yup, I have worked with the lads on a few different things.
...anyone understand what they are saying?
Limerick's slang is very similar ta Cork's
That sounds exactly like the one of the rubberbandits
is she from Limerick? sounds a bit dublinish to me?
I understand every word they say
I knew a traveler girl that had a similar accent and used some of the same phrases she was from dundalk originally but lived in Manchester easily the most funny broad I've ever known.
Yeah. We use most of these
Funny stuff lads .............. i lived here a while and there half right ...... me and the peeps enjoyed it much hahaha
Well done. Can't believe you left out "steamer". And "pure spa".
translation we'll catch a cab at 3 to go eat when you come home
Same as cork city
.
Mams life
The rest after 0:44 - "I've been (I've been) I've been popping (popping), man I feel just like a rockstar..."
Yea understood all of it.
BRAVEHEART BROUGHT ME HERE
Ah that's bad form
My friends says that all the time
that blonde one from clare
can yo do cork accents?
Someone commented there are Cork Slang words in it, the truth is, the North Cork accent and the Limerick accents are very similar as is the culture like Black Pudding, Pigs Toes etc, in food that is. limerick has the Sh instead of a T, as gesh away oush of ish,' get away out of it' don't know where that came from, some Dubs use it also. Anyway, enjoyed the Vid! Thanks for posting.
She's lush. ( Bristolian expression )...
isnt this slang all cork slang?
@hughmcgauran You're right about the ''ride you'' bit... but I don't know anyone who actually calls it d'icon except for occasionally when trying to be funny.
In real life people do actually say 'the icon'... and especially in the context of a heartfelt ''I'm NOT going to the Icon" (which they often rebuke on some hours later)
good few in dublins sprawling ghettoes we have them in the poorer ghettoes in my country too
@62scubasteve The bandits (because they're from Limerick) have mastered the Limerick accent... so has the bloke in this vid. I have suspicions about the girl however... she sounds a bit more like she's trying to mask a mayo accent or something
"Don't mind him love. He's only a bollocks."
Reminds me of my grandparents. Both from Limerick.
Ah bollocks lads, this inspires homesickness.
@MrMalley666 England?
No mention of tackies??
A limerick would be a type of poem.
Limerick is a place.
The article determines which one you're talking about.
nah way all the cool cats hang in dublin i used to go to college down there
SHWER TO GAWD LOIK
2:00 💀
what's a limerick?
THATS LIMERICK CITAAAAEEEYYY!!!!!! and also every other city and town and Ireland :P
and Dublin words
So true :D
I wouldjaa
true la but never heard...come ere an i tell u a question...anywhere but limerick kid
@cianjoseph Says someone with two first names....
@Diehardmaggot100 blindboy boatclubs name is dave chambers, his picture is online. Its not him
So, they don't have a good word to say about anyone!?
Now I understand where the old nasally fast-paced New York Irish accent comes from. My ancestors were from Limmerick and emigrated to New York in the 1910's.
Piss off
subtitles @ 0:26 :)
whatre u gawking at
This is..more true than THE BABY JESUS ON CHRISTMAS EVE.
So true 😑
dont be jealous
Things most people say
@Bigspoon021092 It isnt.
I’m from Texas and the things the lady says are what my grandma might say. The man is harder but a woman being so skinny the gust of wind carrying her away, I know it.
Having some sneaky suspicions about this video.
1.Filmed by Shane Serrano, same guy who filmed RubberBandits "Bags of Glue" video. They had no money at the time so they must know the guy.
2.At the end the guy in yellow sounds suspiciously like BlindBoyBoatClub.
3. If you've seen the edited pictures of the bandits without masks (Blurred) You can see the guy in yellow has the same colour hair & Facial hair.
I'm glad I emigrated before "totes" became a thing...
