  • Robert Field explains how his father's love for cacti led to the creation of one of Australia's most significant collections. It would be safe to say that anyone in Australia who has a decent size collection of cacti will have plants who's origins would be found in Ralph Field's collection.

Currently growing Trichocereus scopulica x pachanoi that said "Fields collection" and had to do some digging, since I am a newbie and had no idea. It's impressive what people with a passion can achieve! Thank you for sharing this!

Awesome video! It's always great to hear the story from a member of the family.
Mr. Field's seeds have even made it to Texas- and gave me amazing results when they sprouted! They're probably some of the best I've ever seen. They were so great, i even did a short video on my channel that shows the seedlings. Almost finger-sized seedlings at just 100 days!
-now to see if I can track down any more information or articles/ photos from the expedition!
A big thank you to Mr. Fields!
( I just realized I have about 10 of the Field's seedlings that I'm going to be sharing and mailing out in the fall when it cools off a bit.)

So cool. I have Field’s pachanoi and a couple hybrids of Fields trichocereus, absolutely stunning plants. Going to try to do some more research into the expeditions. Makes me want to do something similar, legitimately of course.

Wow, what an interesting story! Oh, I have never seen a Ferocactus hamatacanthus that was so big. The giant Cleistocactus strausii look very cool and the big Espostoas too. Can you please tell us the names? The crested Cereus is already a big brain shape! Nice, was that a Ferocactus pilosus full of fruit, at the end? You are my favorite club, in Australia, haha! Thanks

There were loads of fruit on all the Fero's last time I was there. Lots of very old plants. I have a project in the pipeline were I hope to look at each of the old plants a bit closer and will list the names also.
      You are our greatest 'fan'
