  • English - Welcome to another Schony747 tram presentation. Tram presentations normally Saturday morning but this weeks appears on a Friday a we commemorate the 100th anniversary of the formation of the Melbourne Metropolitan Tramways Board (MMTB). Feel free to hit SUBSCRIBE if you like the channel content.
    BEST VIEWED IN 4K - You can adjust the view quality in the settings.
    The MMTB ws formed November 1st 1919 and ceased June 30th 1983. The orgranisation was formed to take over all Melbourne Tramway Systems and the Melbourne cable car network. The only trams not included was the system operated by the Victorian Railways.
    As no local tramway museum of tramway authority had no plans to celebrate this important milestone, I ventured to The Sydney Tramway Museum at Loftus. The museum held an event titled "Centenary of the MMTB 1919 -2019" featuring 3 of the museums resident Melbourne Trams. Y1 Class Tram 611, Z2 Class Tram 111 and former Ballarat Tram number 37.
    Here are the three trams running throughout the day featuring line side and internal views. Z2 111 was the highlight of the day for me. I hope you enjoy the coverage. More trams Saturday next week - Brenden S

    That's such a great museum with some really nice trams Brenden. I wish we had a setup like that here in Melbourne, the museum in Hawthorn is great but being able to ride them would be even better 😄 I bet you really wanted to drive that Z2 but I am sure you really enjoyed being able to ride in one again after such a long time since they were retired here. It's great there's still one that runs out there, I don't know what happened to the last ones after they were retired, those and the B1 Class trams, I am still hoping the B1s go to a museum one day too, those guys are super rare and unique being only 2 of them in existence. Thanks for sharing Brenden, I really enjoyed joining in the fun while watching all the great trams and getting to experience them all too. I also really liked the Z2 too, reminds me of the days when I used to ride them to school everyday down Dandenong Road. Awesome video as always, I really enjoyed this one 😄👍

      I didn't even give driving a thought. I was up there to enjoy myself on my day off! It's a great museum and it helps when the museum has it's own track.

      Haha, that's great, you know you are having a great time when you just enjoy the moment. 😄 That sounds like the best kind of day off. I would just want to drive all the trams, haha, but I settle for dings on the gongs at the museum🚊🔔🔔
      Yeah, I wish there was some track for tram rides at our museum, I would love to go on tram rides like that. But it's still great we have tram preservation at the museum, our old trams definitely need to be saved somewhere because once they are gone you never can see such wonderful parts of history again.
      I am glad you got to have such an awesome day off Brenden. If I ever get the chance, that looks like such a fun place to visit. I am waiting for the B1 Class trams to get into the Hawthorn Museum hopefully one day, I would love to go see one of them there if they ever get around to preserving at least one of them. 😄
      Still waiting on getting a tram ride again with you one of these days. The last ride on the E Class over a year ago was super awesome. 👍 Take care until next time and keep enjoying those fun adventures out and about.

    Great video Brenden. I went to the Sydney Tramway Museum in 2014 or 2015 but cannot remember what trams I saw. Sounds to me like a good reason for another visit (when Covid permits).

    3:58 I know this one! I rode on it when I visited the Tramway Museum in November, 2019. But the tram was still new and I did not notice the info poster until I saw it in this video just now, watching again on 2nd March, 2021.

      @@Schony747 Plus the St. Kilda tram loop was ripped up in May 1962. Now in its place is Mc Donald's and those newish apartments with a green facade.

    • @ctwentysevenj6531

      The loop which was built in 1916 surrounding a cafe called the "Green Knoll" by the Malvern, Prahran Tram Trust. It was built as a quick way to shunt the electric trams at the end of Carlisle street. There was still cable trams along the Esplanade, terminating in Acland street. The Esplanade trams was changed to electric in late 1925, the first cable line to be converted. Anyway for much of it's existence, I believe the tram loop wasn't used much. A Ministerial order was given in 1959 in State Parliament to abolish the tram loop. Wasn't until May 1962, the loop was finally ripped up. Part of the land was transferred to the police in 1964 including the MMTB Candy Corner milk bar, a small white building in a corner. The Cafe where the loop surrounded it was demolished in 1973 and replaced with Mc Donald's in 1977. The are land where the police were, they left in the early 2000s and the Government sold that land to developers and built those apartments . Actually where Mc Donald's is that is still crown land. It seems Mc Donald's has a long term lease.

    I've seen Z2-class @111 in the display shed at previous visits to the STM, but never looked up to her roof, so I'm somewhat surprised to see her using trolley-poles rather than a pantograph, especially since this tram is only 40 years old(though the Z2-class dates back to 1975).

    • @Schony747
      @Schony747  4 роки тому

      I never drove 111 in service. 101 was the only Z2 I drove. The original pole would have been refitted once arriving at Loftus.
