I just turned 70. I was born/raised in NYC. My first job at 15 was at Woolworth. I had no idea they were still around. I worked in the soda shop and I made rootbeer floats and they cost 10 cents. Crazy! You took me back to my childhood. I am retired and live in a tiny town on Texas but it was nice looking at all the old houses, took me back. Happy, blessed, safe travels.
Woolworth aren't around. There is an old Woolworth building in Downtown Asheville.
I also worked the Woolworth soda fountain in Coral Gables Fl best time ever.
It's not a Woolworth store anymore.
Not usually a fan of watching other people driving around towns;... but I used to live in Asheville & this video included 1 house I owned and 2 others I lived in so one of my definite favorites. Also recognized a few houses friends lived in; brought back great memories.

You're in Asheville NC and decide to drive to Knoxville, TN. No big deal just a two-hour drive. Wow, this really gave me some perspective on how far distances are in the western US. I live in San Diego county and for me just to get to Yuma AZ is THREE HOURS! Tucson is another THREE HOURS! Gosh, no wonder I find travelling so hard!
You are just like me. As soon as I got my license I hit the open road and found out how to get to all my local towns just to look at old homes and buildings with old architecture. This video just took me back to me having the travel bug. Now I want to go to Asheville NC, just to go to the Woolworth’s. My mom and I use to eat lunch at ours, it’s been burnt down for quite a few years now. Thanks for sharing.
I live in Asheville Area and sorry you didn't get to visit longer. I grew up in Western NC. They do have a Tiny Home Community near Asheville. The "old" Woolworth store is now an art/crafts gallery and I have eaten there at the soda shop several times. They have good food and good coffee. Yeah, parking is a bear in Asheville. Speaking of bears, LOL, we have those too. They frequent my neighborhood. You should have stopped at the WNC Farmers Market off I-40 on your way back to Knoxville. They have indoor and outdoor vendors and are open all year round.
Love Asheville! Sounds like you didn't make it to Acony Bell which is the tiny house village about 20 miles from Asheville. You should still say "we" because sweet Lily is still traveling with you!
Please be safe out there. Cute town but that sandwich at the end was my favorite part. I always forget about those and they are so easy!

Its cool that they’ve retain the Woolworths name even though Woolworths ceased operations in the USA. There is also one in Bakersfiled CA but I think its currently closed for renovations.

Just remember even though Lily is not physically with you she is still with you in spirit and so everywhere you go no matter what you do she is experiencing it with you and the neat thing is you can go someplace that doesn't allow pets and it's like oh well she's still with you so enjoy enjoy

Yes I used to go to Woolworths as a kid. They used to sell nuts that were warm. I used to collect disneykins there. Little Disney characters.

I love Ashville, my husband wanted to retire their from the Army . But becuse of his father and mother we didn't. We stayed in Kentucky to take care of them till they passed away a few years ago . Have a blast stay safe !
I love Ashville! And I used to live in Greenville, SC. It's a nice area. And, as far as "we"... it could certainly mean you and all of us.

Waynesville, NC is a nice small town!
The Woolworth's was still a Woolworth's when I moved here in '84. Now it's Woolworth Walk and is a wonderful art gallery with the soda fountain downstairs. If you drove one or two blocks over from Patton Ave. you probably would have found parking.
You’re probably already at your destination but if not safe travels. I can definitely see you in the near future with a craftsman style home in some cool area 💕😊

Always love visiting The Biltmore estate While im in Ashville for the Holidays.Just the hour drive is worth seeing the Christmas Decorations at the estate. I'm Jealous lol..Always a joy watching your vids.
Seems like there should be an app that shows where outside public parking is. If not, there should be. ;) I remember going to Woolworths when I was a child. Sometimes getting a milkshake. That was sad that you couldn't find a place to park and go check it out. But, on to the next adventure. :) God bless!
I lived in Asheville for a year back in 1999 and it was a delight! Only left under duress, but visited friends there in 2020 and could not believe it was the same place! SO many people, traffic, noise, congestion, even on hiking trails. Could live there now because who can afford it?! 😂
Asheville is beautiful, but it's changed a lot. Hendersonville is a beautiful little town close by!
Cheerwine is locally bottled here in Salisbury, NC. There is even a Cheerwine Festival! It's my favorite soft drink!

Those buildings with numerous balconies & windows are most likely apartment buildings. They resemble the one in Atlanta that Margaret Mitchell (Gone With the Wind) lived in. We toured her home/apartment, they’re cute!
I had a terrible time trying to find a regular parking place in Asheville. Finally made it to the Woolworth and had a delicious bologna sandwich. There is an art gallery in the rest of the store. Lots of interesting history in Ashevillle.

Omg that’s so funny. In my 30s I literally lived right across the street from Cornish in some apartments and then in my 40s lived in REO Flats for a little over a year before I bought a house in Mount Vernon. What was your area of music study at Cornish?

Greenville is also a beautiful town/city! A prior employer’s corporate headquarters was in the lovely downtown so I was there quite a bit. Would definitely be a pick for a “if I ever moved” home.

It's a shame you didn't get to see more of Asheville. It sounds like a place you would really like. I am sure you already know about the tiny home community that's over there somewhere. If not, it's a place you want to check out for tiny home living. But there are a few UA-cam videos on some of the homes and community over there that you probably have seen. Sounds like a neat place. Be careful driving!
In Asheville you should have parked on a residential side street and used the bike😀

Wow sorry you couldn't stay longer. We had a Woolworth too. I'm an hr from Asheville and 45 mins from Greenville. Although I know you post after you have the area. When I'm traveling I do the same. The storm didn't get too bad here just some rain. Happy travels.

Cheerwine is awesome and an NC and SC staple. They used to be their own company until they were bought out by Pepsi. Check out Biltmore Estates if you get a chance. It's especially pretty at Christmas.

I’ve moved many times in my 69 years. I learn new towns by driving the streets. Ashville is gorgeous year round.
Hope you found Acony Belle tiny home village. It’s about 22 miles from Asheville. It’s amazing.

I love your blouse it really looks good on you. We have Woolworths in Australia, I remember when it looked like the original. Our Woolworths is a large supermarket chain. Asheville isn't too good for car parking, I felt stressed watching you trying to find a park. But very pretty town, I love American architecture. Capital Hill looks stunning location.
The Woolies where l live in Victoria has disappeared, l noticed today. But l never shopped there.

There is always meter parking around the Grove Arcade before 11:30am that will fit full size trucks/vans and that's only a block from Woolworths. Next time.

My mom lives just west of Asheville. She says when hurricanes come through, it’s so far inland that they just get the outer bands. So they basically get rain and maybe some wind but nothing scary.
Not true, they can get substantial flooding from tropical storms and hurricanes. Lived in the Mountains of NC for years, family livrs in Mountains. Biltmore village area flooded so bad around 2005 or 06 that people were canoeing down the road. People have died because of flooding from hurricanes in the mountains. It's not just a little rain.
I love those old soda fountains… my dad had a cool Coca Cola one in his drugstore
My daughter and I use to spend every Thanksgiving in Asheville, NC. We had so much fun, but then it became a tourist hot spot so we stop going.
I was disappointed that you couldn't find parking! I was hoping to see the inside of the Woolworth store. We had one in my hometown in Michigan, spent much time there in the 1960's. Hope you get somewhere warm Amber!❤️

Asheville is Beautiful, and so is Winston Salem (okay I'm gushing over the entire range of the Smoky Mountains) Be sure to check out Biltmore place next time your in Asheville (if you haven't already). It's gorgeous. Then if you have time I highly recommend the Outer Banks of North Carolina with Kill Devil Hills and the Hatteras Light house [Nope I'm not a Proud Tarheel at all am I?]. Lastly if you like big floaty things the USS North Carolina is in Wilmington, and while your there I recommend College street or Front Street. Be safe, Glad you were in the Carolina's.

WA. STATE HERE I lived in the Capital Hill area in 1961-2 during the World's Fair. Yes the older architectural homes are gorgeous.

Cherwine is the best, Everytime in the area I get it.... Kentucky and Tennessee have their own hometown craft sodas too.
Best time to see fall leaves is in October in the NC mountains.

No “L”!?!?! Have you ever tried making your own sprouts? Super easy to do. All you need are your dried sprouts (my fav is a salad mix), a small jar and sieve lid (bought off Amazon). I took my kit on a two+ month RV road-trip to Alaska last summer and never had a lack of greens. They’re great in sandwiches, top of soup, very versatile and healthy. Yes they take a bit of water, but not much and they keep 3-4 days in the fridge.
If your going thru Jacksonville when you go to FL. Check out the Treaty Tree, (a gigantic oak) Its in a Park in downtown Jacksonville. Its huge! Oldest living thing in FL. Predates Jacksonville.

Oh my goodness, Cheerwine is so good. I've had both the regular and diet. I dated a guy who was from NC that introduced me to it. You can sometimes find it in 4 pack bottles around the US. Little secret... Cheerwine ice cream floats! Delicious.
If your knees are still a problem. Maybe you qualify for a handicap plackard. That way parking may be less difficult.
Well as wonderful as that sounds my knees are doing just fine, which is a really good thing.

Asheville is where I bought my RV two years ago. I flew in and the couple I bought it from took me to some places. Downtown Asheville has some great architecture.
Amber, don't stay at the Tallahassee Cracker Barrel. The area around that exit is a high crime area.
