Utah vs Oregon Fail 2014

- Опубліковано 10 лют 2025
- Utah Utes football player Kaelin Clay drops the ball on the 1 yard line thinking he is in the end zone. The Oregon Ducks recover it for a 99 yard touchdown. The best fail of the 2014 college football season.
One of the great moments in sports history. Dude couldn't wait to be in the spotlight and let the crowd know how great he is - ends up looking like a total ass. Just beautiful.
agreed
@surfboyabry007 This was in 2014 bro
@surfboyabry007 Kidding
How does that old saying go?
"Act like you've been in the endzone before."
Yeah, that's it....
Best part is everyone's fighting over the ball then running it down the field while he and his crew are at the top of the screen skipping around in celebration.
That’s a great ref. He didn’t signal or even give a sign that the play was still going and he just watched to see how it would play out.
Yep, it's hard to be a ref having to know all the rules, if he had signaled a TD, they would have gone back to the tapes maybe
I’m a Utah fan and this play crushes me every time I watch it. And that ref turned out to be my high school health teacher
He dropped his bean bag indicating a fumble. And refs never indicate a play is still going. They only indicate when a play is over by blowing the whistle and waving their hands above their heads. If the play is still going, yes the refs watch to see how it plays out like every other play. Moron
@@wisemang73 who's the moron? Nobody is disputing what you just said...
@@wisemang73 how bout you calm your small ballz sir😂 no need for name calling
Credit to the lone Utah guy who tried to stop Walker from scoring. Dude faced like five defenders.
Yeah only him and one guy trying to recover the fumble even tried, other nine players were just wandering around or celebrating.
even the ref while he was announcing the ruling on the play looked like he wanted to laugh and shake his head.
I would've wanted to do the same thing. "What a moron he (Clay) is."
chris gast you probably didn’t know this but idiots like you don’t know that people make mistakes in life, but it’s ok I know you Oregon’s wouldn’t know
@@ethang2494 I never said I was perfect. I've made mistakes in my life, and I actually have the ability to laugh at myself at times. Can YOU? Have you? Oh, and by the way - I'm not from Oregon. Don't make an ass out of yourself and assume anything.
Brings tears of joy to my eyes every time I watch it.
Jacob Gowans quack!!
BYU fan?
This NEVER gets old...
7 years later and Clay has 6 total NFL receptions while scrappy Joe Walker who returned the fumble has been a consistent active roster player, racked up 88 career tackles, and won a Super Bowl ring.
Is this a jab at Clay for making 1 mistake? “Scrappy Joe Walker”? 🤔
@@thekokosho look at his name lol that should have told you all you needed to know 🤣 He probably hated when Kaep took as knee also 🤷🏿♂️ I'm just guessing though!
@@muhfkajones 😂🤦🏽♂️
@@thekokosho 1 mistake? His career has been terrible.
Laces out!
I love how he goes right into the celebration and points at his name, classic
Oh man, as a Utah fan, that was rough to watch. Absolutely embarrassing.
+Dontworry Boutit you mean WERE #3... Thanks to that disheartening, depressing, disgusting game against USC. Now we're #13.
The thing about that unwarranted ranking from last year was Utah had defeated a team on a six game losing streak AKA Michigan, sixth place and 11th place MWC teams, AKA USU and Fresno, and a gutted Oregon team that was playing with a railroad tie as QB. They got their ranking by beating a combined record of 7-9.
The saddest part is those idiots in the polls thought Utah had defeated a Michigan team from the 90s and Oregon from 2014 with Mariota. Utah took the title of being the most grossly overrated team of 2015 from ND.
Utah is always overrated. They always complain about being disrespected, and then when they get the chance to prove themselves, they fail.
I like how the crowd cheered for the final ruling because they didn’t realize he was saying touchdown for Oregon, not Utah. They were probably confused when Oregon kicked off.
Exactly!
Whats still so funny about this is how all the Utah fans, at home and in that stadium, all cheered thinking it was a Utah TD 😂.
The ref didn't do a good job explaining it though.
@@gnnascarfan2410 I don't think the ref cared much at that point. Let them all celebrate too soon, the Utah players and fans alike.
what's even funnier is when the touchdown is ruled for Oregon, you can hear the audience getting quieter as they slowly realize what just happened
@@gnnascarfan2410 He said the ruling on the field was confirmed. There was never a TD signaled for Utah....only Oregon..so he did just fine "explaining" it.
Oregon ended up winning this game 51-27---talk about deflating Utah.
Yeah and I clearly remember Oregon getting their asses handed to them up until this point in the game where the flow of the game flipped COMPLETELY
Ducks scored 24 straight points before Utah closed the half with a field goal.
This was actually one of the toughest games of that season for Oregon but Mariota caught absolute fire in the 4th quarter. I feel like this game is the game that won Mariota the Heisman because the first half was rough for him but scored a touchdown on every possession towards the end of the game. That showed that Mariota was clutch.
@@zeaferjones1404 In college, but an NFL bust.
@@trwent Mariota has won playoff games and is still a starting quarterback for the Falcons. He isn't a bust but the Titans coaching staff did screw him over. He scored more points than Tannehill does.
it was at this moment kaelin knew.... he FUCKED UP
He didn't know until after Walker was already heading the other way with it. If he did, why didn't he go try to recover it?
No TD call was ever made though.
The Utah fans cheering when the TD was confirmed 😂😂😂. LOL for Oregon!!
Talk about NEVER LIVING THAT DOWN!
This is what's called "snatching defeat from the jaws of victory!"
Changed the momentum too. This would have been 14-0 Utah, but instead an Oregon blowout began.
Never gets old.
This still brings me so much joy.
His idol is Desean Jackson..
They both went to the same high school. LOL
That's not such a bad idol being that Desean has been successful at the highest level, dropped balls and all.
4:06 Utah fans cheering thinking it was a TD for them
Glad I am not the only one that comes back to this video for a little pick me up.
No TD was ever called for Utah. You see the side judge missing his hat because he threw it down to mark a fumble.
@@AEMoreira81 yeah dude we know but after oregon ran it back for a td, the refs discussed it for a bit and then announced a td but they didn’t say which team so they fans thought it was for Utah
Hahaha
@@tekkenfan01 THEY fans?
I guess you could say Utah really dropped the ball on this one...
Still laughing ... this never gets old.
This ruined Utah's season.
aClan OFFICIAL really? That ruined the season?
@@mediumpimpin004 They lost to Oregon. This would've had them up 14 points
They would’ve been up 14-0 against the no. 4 team in the country with a whole lot of momentum. Likely would’ve continued to win the game cause the whole stadium shut down after that play so Utah could never get anything going. 7-2 on the season with 2 wins against top 10 teams. Whole new story
Jordan Dennis Utah still lost by 24 so I do t think it had a huge impact. It was not a fun game to be at that’s for sure.
CURTIS OUTDOORS it made a huge impact, this changed the entire momentum of the game
Normally I don’t watch a lot of football but I saw a small clip of this and thanks to you I got to see more. WOW! That’s gotta hurt.
haha they're in the back celebrating totally oblivious to whats going on LOL
As a BYU fan, I find this hysterical!
My favorite part was the Utah band playing music while they were running it back
Great defense, exactly how you draw it up in practice.
Years later, every coach before every game should show this to their team. Heads up job by the side judge.
Joe Walker's like "lemme show you how it's supposed to be done"
Your comment makes me wonder if there will ever be a day when this happens again, and the guy returning the fumble drops it before the end zone to start celebrating as well
That play was a thing of beauty!!
I love that after Clay dropped the ball he pointed at his OWN NAME in the endzone, yeah guy we know who "dropped the ball." Hilarious.
this is the nfl equivalent of when ufc guys don't give a fuck about the fight but can't wait to put on their sponsored t-shirt after.
Kaelin Clay, Marcus Williams, the legacy
Hahahaha just saw this on ESPN. And while dude picks up the ball and runs the other way, the dude that dropped the ball initially, keeps celebrating @3:20 at the top of the screen. How embarrassing lol! I wish I saw that live haha
At the end you can tell that the crowd of Utah thought it was their touchdown... shame.
I swear this guy did this on purpose to be remembered by lol..
I love it when a show-off makes an ass of himself. I think Kaelin Clay wanted to crawl under the turf.
This play completely turned the game around and literally saved the season for the Ducks. Instead of the Utes being up by 14, this tied the game and the Ducks an off 24 straight points before Utah got a 32 yard FG to end the half. #4 Oregon ended up with a 51-27 win over the 17th ranked Utes, an 11-1 regular season record, a 51-13 win over #8 Arizona in the Pac-12 Championship and a 59-20 dismantling of Jamies Winston and Florida State in the National semi-final.
Right then Oregon lost to Ohio State in the title game
Kaelin Clay if youre reading this, you saved the ducks season that year. Thank you always, hope high school football coaching is going good
This just illustrates that it's important to recruit players that are intelligent as well as athletic. Funniest play in college football history!
Its not an uncommon mistake to be fair lol.
Crowd was so loud they didnt know what was going on
this is so painful to watch even as an oregon fan. i would disappear off the face of earth.
Prancing around like ballerinas as the ball is picked up and taken to the house. I will never forget this game.
177 yard play. And I'd like to point out the huge failure on part of the broadcast crew as well.
They obviously couldn't see it either with all the hands in the way. They have to call the same broadcast that were watching so it all syncs up. They're not watching the field.
Even the ref at 0:35 couldn't believe that just happened.
That's the face of a man who has no idea what just happened while simultaneously knowing exactly what happened.
Great Teaching Moment for all young people in sports about being selfish in sports !
When celebrating is more important than finishing the play.
Crazy thing is that while he was close, at the same time, HE WASN’T. It was super clear
I know this was 6 years ago but that guy is still running laps
imagine if the oregon player did the same thing
Imagine if he flew and then exploded and from his ashes another football team appeared and did the same thing.
@@CalvinHikesfor eternity but increasingly more absurd
The funniest part is this SAME exact thing happened to Oregon a few weeks earlier where they dropped the ball on the 1 yard line and loss possession. They were all mad about it so they flipped it on Utah during this game!
Oregon running to score a touch down was the biggest possible middle finger to all pre-celebrating idiots. Middle finger to cocky twat, middle finger to broadcast operators, orchestra and fans who celebrated touchdown without referee having given it to them yet, and even middle finger to announcers who didn't get what was going on.
Props to referees who knew how to do their job properly.
Orchestra? You mean the marching band?
What do the announcers have to do here? They are only shown what people are seeing they have no way of knowing what the call was. Also lol orchestra...its called a marching band...
Unless the camera cut before the fumble, they should have seen the fumble.
Well the first view that’s shown has someone’s head in front of him dropping the ball so you can’t see it.
The Utah crowd chanting “bullsh”. D’Oh!
A Clemson player just did the same thing against Troy. He's lucky Troy didn't run it back the other way. I really don't get why players do this. It's dumb.
...and then Cal vs. Texas
So did the OSU player but the ref didn't catch it. Morons.
Foolish Banana
Maybe the ball is too heavy.
lol
Foolish Banana I love Clemson
Yet,if the players celebrate, you'd be saying act like you've been there before. He didn't do anything! He was celebrating prematurely. He just dropped the ball unknowingly before he crossed the line with the ball.
I just learned about this happening, WOAH
My favorite blooper ever.
The worst part of this is Utah has at least 3 players who have a first name for a last name.
Ok,everyone commenting and blasting Clay would be telling him to "act like you've been there before" had he not dropped the ball. He wasn't celebrating prematurely. He just happened to let go of the ball, unknowingly before he crossed the line! He doesn't let go of the ball until after crossing the line,it would just like handing the ball to the ref.
He wasn't celebrating prematurely? Are we watching the same play?
Bullshit lmao
@@kristianvandehei8757 not really! He was celebrating with his teammates in the end zone.
@@kristianvandehei8757unknowingly?? 😅
We were there that night. I had no idea what officially happened until Sportscenter that night.
2024 and players in both the NFL and college STILL DO THIS.
Came across this on IG and had to see this. Kaelin “Klutzy” Clay 😂
When you're sooo close then fuck up;...
A Cal player did the same thing last night, but got lucked out by bad officiating. I'd like to think that one of these days, they will learn their lesson. However, with this happening time and time again, I have little hope that players will stop doing this.
If you look at the first Oregon player to touch the ball, he looked at the ref up top the whole time. When he saw the ref standing there looking back at him he realized " oh sh*t it's a live ball".
Would have been nice to not immediately switch to the crowd for thirty seconds while stuff is happening. Also great camera angle, right behind some dude's head.
I was at this game and the only duck fan in my section. I was screaming “pick it up, pick it up!” Every Utah fan was telling me to shut up and to fuck off hahaha.
beautiful.
Never let him forget this
I watched the whole game. Utah fell flat and Oregon just walked all over them the rest of the game
When you almost do something cool then fuck it up at the last minute
“There’s a ‘Not-Top-10-play.”
The Ultimate Epic Fail..
If you'll watch the ref up top in the replay, you'll see him point down to the one-yard line, signaling to the side judge it was dropped there.
Lesson boys and girls, save the celebrations for when the game is won.
This was the direct result of a culture that values gloating over accomplishing.
OK boomer
Alex Murphy , he is right you dipshit, and I'm not a boomer...
No it’s not the game was nowhere near like this in 2014
How can the crowd call this a bad call? It's clearly on video that he drops it, and you have to be across the goal line before you drop it or it's a fumble!
The denial is strong here..lol😂
He sat with his headband over his eyes at the end haha I don’t blame em I would’ve done the same!!
One of my favorite mishaps ever 😂
Humility, isn't it about...time?
Shout out to the BYU fans who watch this with a big smile on their face!
Isn't there a rule if you go out of bounds on your own you can't be the first one to play the ball coming back into play? How is this not a penalty on Oregon in their endzone. Am I missing something, or should've this been a safety?
Nope, in the end zone if you reestablish inbounds you’re good to go. If you touch the ball while one foot is out it’s a dead ball.
@sidecar7714 double check the video, my friend. Love following up years later. He was completely out the endzone out of bounds with the cheerleaders, then came back in. What one foot you talking about?
@@dano6389 out of bounds beyond the goal line rule. If you touch a loose ball in the end zone after reestablishing in bounds after going out, you’re good

The utah band playingand the crowd cheering for Oregon....priceless
2017 and I’m still heartbroken about that play 😔
This play healed me spiritually.
I loved that Oregon scored. utah is stupid
fuck Utah!
Announcers should never say the words “what’s going on on the field here?”
A feel good moment to see these guys show their intelligence.
Karmic retribution doesn't come much faster than that.
I know a guy, who has a cousin, that's seen it come faster than that.
Pride cometh before the fall.....the Dunning-Kruger effect in sports.
It's most commonly said as "Pride GOETH before a fall."
Showboaters are selfish by nature, and don’t hesitate to put their self-glorification above the interests of their team. I came of age, and played the game during an earlier time, when this kind of thing never, ever would have happened. Frankly, I don’t know how the wheels came off, and how sportsmanship went down the drain.
Why was clay acting pissed?? He's the one who did it????😅
Could this have been ruled illegal touching by Oregon @ 3:17? The Oregon player runs out of bounds and is the first player to touch the ball
+Ethan Moreno funny, you're absolutely right. Although you never know with football, there could be some super obscure rule implemented decades ago that says it's fine if the ball is in the end zone or something lol.
They took their time with video verification, if there was something wrong I guess they'd call it.
Unless they wanted to deliberately punish the Utah guy for idiocy.
What I'm saying is that super obscure rule would further justify the judgement made on this call.
Excellent point Ethan. I wonder if the rule only applies to catching the ball instead of a fumble recovery.
That could be. That's probably why they took a little while for the ruling because they wanted to make sure a call wasn't missed - maybe. Good props to the officials for actually paying attention and getting the job done right for once.
Thats the problem bein a ute, you don't learn til you get older.
What was he thinking
Reality he wasn't thinking
Wtf are the announcers doing?
Announcing.
Utah fans were cheering after the ruling on the field was confirmed. What were they thinking? Lol.
I still watch this lol..... that’s what happens when your to worried about celebrating haha.....
i remember this game
I will never understand why they can't take two more steps then drop the ball.
Chris Martindale it's just safer to run through the end zone to the goal post, coaches need to stress this
It reminds me of something a sport teacher once said, with regard to running a race: NEVER slow down just because you're nearing the finishing line. Keep going, only slow down once you KNOW you crossed the line.
It seems obvious, but the impulse to slow down because the goal is near is strong.
I don't understand why they drop it at all. It doesn't look cool or anything.
U-tah to be kidding me! 😂🤣
