A few points, I am a gay black man and I've always found it more triggering when black people spread homophobic hate. As black people we have all experienced a lot of the same kind of hate. Everything that he is saying about the LGBTQ+ community as far as what rights and freedoms we want or what we think or believe we should have, there was a time when black people were fighting for those very same rights and freedoms. In many ways, we still are. So to see my fellow black people fighting to deny my fellow LGBTQ+ family of the very same rights that black people have fought for and are still fighting for is incredibly hypocritical and disgusting 😤 Anytime someone says something about the "gay agenda" 🙄 to me, it's basically an admission of them being homophobic. As Emma explained beautifully, our existence is not an agenda. I truly hate religion 😞 Christianity most of all. Religious people are among the most judgemental, hypocritical, hate filled, violent and blood thirsty people on the planet 😕 and they will always use their religious beliefs to justify the most horrific acts of violence.
I always baffled me how intolerate minority groups can be against other minorities. In my naIve younger days I thought they all should consider themselves and would find natural allies against the oppressive capitalist regime. Less was true.
The issue is slavery has been the the earliest point of our heritage we go back to do to it being stripped away from us and a lot of us used religion as a way to cope with our oppression. Not understanding that slave owners taught us the Bible before even allowing us to read or write as a way to control us and have us be content with our oppression. While we are no longer slaves and we have more rights (even though they are constantly undermined and violated) we are still holding on to the codependency of organized religion which is still being used to control us. A lot of White Evangelicals say things that make most blacks uncomfortable (their response about police brutality and misconduct and BLM)and would strongly disagree with but they co-sign on everything their black pastor says who's likely regurgitating the same talking points(Lgbt issues) as our churches holds on to conservative values in spite of us never truely benefiting from it. White Evangelicals always makes sure that what they preach(baring anything that controversial regarding race relations) trickles down to our communities to better control us and have us content. That's why we are so behind when it comes to progress and acceptance. They pit us against one another ( black women, LGBT people of color) so we never vote for anyone who doesn't pass the religious purity test (are they pro choice/LGBT rights) This is something I didn't realize until I left Christianity and started watch more secular news and news commentary. We need to abandon black conservativism/evangelicalism because it's keeping us at a stand still.
I feel the same way about woman who don’t seport lgbtq+ or pro choice. How? Why? Don’t you see it is the same thing? As a woman I want to be free to choose what is right for me. I want everyone to have that as long as it doesn’t harm others!
That's exactly what I told my dad! They know what it is like to be hated for simply existing how can they do that to another human being? How can you scream "Black Lives Matter" while being violently homophobic? But the logic in that statement was lost on him. One of the great things about being black is having a leg up on empathy and compassion. You can more readily understand the suffering of ppl who are judged for things far out of their control. I know it is fucked up to say, but I really lose empathy for individuals that are from marginalized groups and still mistreat others. The LGBT community isn't nessasarily, loving and understanding and accepting. They just want everyone else to be. I'm more accepting of gay people than religious people. Gay people are who they are. Religion is a choice.
We had a gender bender day at my highschool and it was a really fun experiment for me. I went all out and even got a wig for it and showed up at school and noticed that I was the only one. Other girls just wore baggier clothes and put their hair up and still wore makeup, which is totally fine, it was just fascinating to see how everyone interpreted the day. Would have been even better if they had taught us about gender struggles and inclusion that day.

As a non binary AFAB person, I am "allowed" to wear skirts, but I usually do not because I find sitting "like a lady" to be uncomfortable and therefore would rather wear shorts. it's more applicable to Christians. you BELIEVE you are a Christian. your Christian identity is literally based on belief. you believe in Christ and the resurrection, that makes you a Christian. you ARE male, or tall, or a tiny elf who does UA-cam videos with puppets, you ARE straight or gay or bi, you ARE right or lefthanded, but you BELIEVE in Christianity.
I am a straight cis guy. But I've never had any issue understanding how LGBT+ people can exist. For instance I find women attractive, so me understanding why lesbians, bi people or anyone else finding women attractive sounds perfectly logical to me. All I need to do to understand the rest of LGBT+ is to extend that logic to the same extent. But I have never understood why bigots and other angry people can't follow similar simple logic to it.
Yup. That's where I stand. I grew up as an extremist; when I say that, I mean to express that I firmly believed these extremist viewpoints. Then my brain stumbled across a very interesting perspective: if I didn't decide, consciously to be straight, how can someone decide, consciously, to be something else?
From my interactions with people with these attitudes, some of these Christians live in such an echo chamber of friends, tv, radio, and social media that they come to believe the lie that they're a tiny minority fighting to save the world. They have a persecution complex, despite being a provable majority. Others understand it's a lie but prefer to fool themselves out of cognitive dissonance and rationalization. As David Hume said, reason is a slave of passion. And many in tv, radio, and UA-cam simply spread the lies for the sake of building an audience. It could be any of the three. But that's why it's best to stay away from toxic people (if possible): it gets tiring trying to decipher if they're lying, ignorant, or some combination of the two.
Which is a strange thing to see of a black man speaking for a religion that was used to keep his demographic as slaves, and even after the abolishing of slavery, to keep black people down in society.

As a heterosexual, atheist, Black man; I have some points to make. It irks me when Black/African-American people are conservative and they have problems with people demanding equal rights. It's like they are so blind they are not able to see themselves in the mirror. These conservative, right-wing, working class people are not able to see the slippery slope forming. Various states are making it more difficult for homosexuals and Trans people. Both the various states and the Supreme Court have come down hard on women's right to choose. This is not going to stop with this. It will continue with the right to vote, restricting immigration, and so forth. There has to be some sort of concerted effort to bring this to a halt.

I am a trans autistic woman from Texas, I came out when I was 12, I got expelled from a private school, beaten, threatened, assaulted, humiliated, ignored, and tormented for years my my peers. I'm 19 now, and only now have I met people who just accept me. There is transphobia, there is homophobia. Be there, be strong, be proud
As a black person, I find it especially egregious when people of colour and especially other black people are the ones espousing views likw those discussed above. We know on a syatemic scale what it is like to have our rights and freedom to exist in our skin colour infringed upon, yet here many of us are spewing this kind of vitriol towards another group and those who intersect within these communities.

Even more, everytime I see a black Christian, I think about how their ancestors were forced by slave owners or colonists to abolish their own religions and become christians.
Sometimes victims of oppression believe that the only way to not be the victim is by being the abuser. It's a variation on "I hit my kids because my dad hit me". When really nobody should know better more than someone who grew up being hit.
Just like how anyone can feel love the same is true in that anyone can feel hate. Even in the most optimistic version of our future we'll never get rid of the hate since it exists solely to counter love.
A lot of Black people think that oppressing another class makes White people like them more or puts them on the same class level as White people. It's just how men who are losers hate on successful women whereas successful men support successful women.

It doesn't even matter to me if someone finds it "fun". It's a personal choice that should be up to the uterus owner for a variety of reasons. Anyone who doesn't want an abortion doesn't have to get one. But the whole evangelical mindset is that they have to spread their opinion, they are strongly encouraged to gather more and more converts for the tribe. I doubt that mindset would ever be satisfied, even if the whole world did become Christian.
I was a Christian once but left because of the January 6th event. Only then did I finally have a word for what I had been feeling my whole life - I'm trans. When I came out to my mom recently, she launched tons of anti-trans bullshit at me, citing Gays Against Groomers. I had to listen to two hours of her because I didn't want to be rude and hang up on her. Then I had a massive panic attack and left the house during a thunderstorm so I wouldn't wake up my roommates. My experiences with Christians I don't know has been horrific. I get called a groomer every day. I can't believe I was ever a Christian. They are among the most hateful, violent people on Earth.
So what are you trying to say exactly? I think that you were hurt by unjustified and irrational responses from someone close to you. If so, that's an issue between you and the other person. Secondly when I was a teenager I rationalized and justified some hatred against the church, or rather a church that I previously went to for a certain period of time, after I more or less was atheistic after having my faith shaken and a number of things happen. Stuff like that happens, obviously you'll have a different opinion in 1 or 5 years or at least it will be more reworked or refined. As for me, I now clearly see that back then in my life no one truly owed me anything to the extent that I couldn't fully blame my problems on a church that I went to for their fault of not "fully preaching everything as they should," even if I was right that some missing elements could have been infinitely better if that church had them. Lastly as someone who is a Christian but with problems in my life and heart, I want to say that nowhere in the Bible does it state or imply that mere believers in God's existence somehow meet heaven's criteria and that intellectual acknowledgement of God's existence is the beginning and end of the whole process of being on the road to heaven. People become "culturally" Christian, so it would better or less worse if you categorized people by their nationality or social class rather regarding the harassment you're experiencing because it's a dead end and pointless to use the "Christian" card, although it's pretty shallow and dishonest to group people in your case by nationality or socio-economic status as well. Obviously, a person can be kind and nice to you and maybe their kindness and smile would brighten your day, with you later finding out they're Christian, so I doubt you and all the people in the comments of this video are as _"centered against Christians or Christianity"_ as you may currently think you are.

@@someperson2789 The point is not to be against Christianity, but to be against any system that would hurt someone in this way. A mother hurting their own child? Unforgivable, and something I also lived with when I came out. Our parents use the rhetoric they were taught to hurt us, and that is the real problem. Are all Christians bad, of course not. But after leaving the church and hearing how many awful things many Christians do to queer people on a regular basis, I can certainly say I'm better off now than I was before. I'm not anti-Christian, Christians are people after all. I just don't like the system of Christianity, what it represents, and the values it spreads. I don't blame the original poster for their anger because that sounded like quite the horrible experience, but the more people share stories like this, the more there may be a fundamental problem connecting them together. I had to learn a foreign language, leave my country to find a job in a new culture, cutting all ties with my past to be able to come out. Only three years later when my life started settling somewhere I managed to tell my mother. All so someone over the internet can tell me that I just "believe" what I am, as if it was a game, or a random thing I chose in a saturday evening because it's cool. I want to think it's just ignorance, or lack of empathy, but at times it's hard to tell.
I mean, Allen Parr only has himself as his frame of reference - so maybe he goes through life, just pretending to be something and believe something he doesn't really feel inside.
Good luck on your journey to a better life - it's not particularly easy, but it is extremely rewarding when you are finally out and have a circle of friends who like you for who you actually are.
That’s what I keep trying to convince my family. Gay and bisexual people are often shunned and mistreated and that’s why pride month exists and not straight pride month. I have been in a lot of relationships over the years with bisexual women and I always hear the same stories over and over again, either they have never told their family that they are bisexual because their parents would be disappointed and shame them, or their family knows that they are bisexual and won’t talk to them anymore. Nobody has to hide being straight and that’s why there is not straight pride month.
My best friend from high school recently came out as F to M trans. I'm a practicing Christian and my feeling about his decision is that it's a damned shame that he didn't feel comfortable coming out as his true self until now. He's still the same friend I knew and loved back in high school, the only thing that changed is his gender and appearance. Allen Parr is just full of it.
I came out as queer in high school but hid that I was trans from even my friends until I was an adult. Now I am extremely open. I have had issues at work, with people on the street and with people online. I recently started testosterone and vlogged it for my youtube. The amount of comments I had to delete on youtube and on instagram was ridiculous. I am lucky enough to have an amazing partner, an incredible supportive mom and siblings, a dad thats starting to try, and a boss and coworkers that protect me. But that doesnt mean the fear isnt there and that the hate stops. This guy has no idea
i honestly don't think i've ever heard of a christian or anyone against the lgbtq+ community or womens rights, EVER being silent. This is news to me. Usually they're pretty damn loud about not agreeing and who they actually are.
To be fair, if they were silent then you probably wouldn't hear about it. Still, I think the (mostly silent) majority of Christians choose to focus more on the love/compassion side of their religion than the burn the gays/women are property parts.
There are definitely some folks who silently judge and disapprove. They speak to me condescendingly, and with the language they use, it's difficult pick up on, and VERY uncomfortable to be aware of.

@@kotadis2919 depends on your church I guess. My church usually picks a book of the bible and goes through it. Reading every single word and preaching on that. We also encourage people to read the whole bible themselves.

I grew up Christian, and my parents, brother and sister - not to mention entire extended family - are all still believers. All of them have accepted me as a trans woman. They also accept that I am an atheist.

I grew up in churches that are aligned with what Alan Parr teaches, and it is only the past two years that I have broken out, accepted myself and my sexuality, and begun changing my beliefs to be more just, loving, and accepting. Your channel has been very helpful for me on this journey. I have appreciated your critiques of Christians like Alan Parr and Kent Hovind. I have found a lot of solidarity and support in your videos. I still consider myself a Christian, and ironically enough, I am more proud of my faith today than I ever was before I came out. I think that even then I recognized the very things you shared, my earlier faith devalued human diversity and denied others equal rights. I can honestly say that it is Christians like Alan Parr who are the most harmful people to me. Thank you for making a response to this video and all the content you make. I know the hatred from this brand of Christianity can be exhausting and overwhelming. I see the amazing work you are doing, I appreciate it, and I am one of many many Christians who are on your side in these issues.

@@benry007 to be fair; almost all of are damned in perpetuity for one reason or another. The Bible is essentially a long list of don’t. Exodus 22 18 is a favourite. And 2 Kings 2:23-25 suggest best not call a pastor “baldy”.

i literally had a small confrontation with my parents. we were driving and the pride flag came up and i identified it as the equal rights movement. my mom was like "you mean gay rights" and i politely reminded her "the goal is rights equality"
Did your mother understand your point? I have a brother that has trouble with equal rights for everyone in the U.S., racism was an issue in the past but doesn't affect society today. I'm trying to use current examples that show incidents where someone's skin color or sexual preferences lead to unequal treatment by authority figures, and how a pattern emerges over time. I'm pretty sure they are thinking "special rights for gays." During the 1992 campaign against Colorado's Amendment 2 campaign, such people told me explicitly that I didn't deserve equal rights and that my desires for "equal rights" meant I was asking for special rights. During the campaign for gay marriage rights, that was considered a special right. All of this completely unselfconsciously: they think they deserve some things and we don't, and that's the way it should be.

When I came out to my parents my dad told my stepmom “tell that queer to go to bed” and even to this day I get snide little jabs at ky sexuality just because I’m married to a woman instead of a man with things such as “all he needed to do was find the right woman” or “I know it was just a rebellious phase”

The same people who think that gay individuals are going through a phase or just haven't met the right cis partner tend to overlap almost entirely with the people who think they know more about climate change than the actual professional scientists that study it everyday know. It's all shades of the Dunning-Kruger Effect and personally I think is reinforced by a religious upbringing that doesn't focus on the importance of critical thinking and epistemology.
I'm in America and I don't tell anyone I'm Bi except my kids know. I'm also transmasc, but didn't realize that until recently, when I started watching video's and found the words to express what I've been feeling my entire life. You're not alone. I'm a 47 year old man and just recently crocheted a "Minion" 😊. I love crochet, it's so relaxing. Always loved puppet animals, Muppets, Fraggles, hand puppets, etc. I still have almost all my childhood stuffed fluffy animals.
I never "seriously adored" muppets as a kid or as an adult, but I watched the Adam Savage videos on the Fraggle Rock puppets and it was incredible. Those puppeteers are awesome. The puppets have gaze, they have body language, they have personality, it's wonderful. Puppetry is now an art form I have serious respect for, and I am definitely noticing it more and more, the skill and effort involved to make an awesome character.
I used to be Catholic. It really hit me hard when I learned such a large portion of christians are so hateful, even to one another. There always seems to be some sort of purity test and I've never fully grasped how some individuals can't do the bare minimum of just letting people be themselves when other people just living doesn't impact their own personal lives.
I recently had a squabble with a "christian" who claimed that christians had never participated in holy wars or religious wars, and one of his first statements was that I couldn't mention the Crusades, because Catholics aren't christians. I'm just baffled by their arrogance and ignorance.
They are afraid of the influence on their children, but it's really sad that hiding their children from many life experiences. I'd still became bi even after decades of repression from Christianity.

I started calling pro-life people anti-choice sometime ago because it is a far more accurate representation of their position than it is to call them pro-life and I'm really glad to see that it's become rather common for pro-choice people to refer to the other side as anti-choice because a lot of them are opposed to a lot of things that would actually make life better and worth living so they don't deserve that label.
i don't get the "pro-life-label" either. thankfully abortion is not prohibitet where i'm from. but 50 years ago it was. and there were a lot of women who either killed themselfs because they saw no other way out or they did by accident because the procedure was unsafe. how can someone call themselfs pro-life when they are the reason people are dead?

years ago my gf and I made the mutual decision to have an abortion we were literally pushed, kicked, and I got hit in the head w a rock just walking into the clinic. it was already a really tough personal decision. so much so the gauntlet of verbal and physical assault we endured getting into the clinic was still the easy part.

My friend is legitimately afraid to enter most churches with her wife. Even if they have acceptance signs outside and seem queer positive, they're afraid to hold hands or sit too closely during a service. People like this guy are why.
If your friend wishes to attend church, tell them to look for "welcoming and affirming." This particular phrase means more than "all are welcome here because we're all equally sinners" but means that queer persons can participate in all levels of the church including leadership!

I'm 50+ and my deeply religious parents died never knowing that I was bi-sexual.. I would've loved to have told them. But I felt it would be selfish of me to burden them with that knowledge. I'd like to think that they would've been ok with it. But I didn't want to shame them in front of all the homophobic bigots that I knew were in the church. Coming out as an atheist was bad enough..
I think it is best to just come out and tell people about these kinds of things because that's how progress is made. Nothing ever happened to the person that stayed in the closet their entire life.

Well it's a myth that the average Christian in the west is more ignorant or hateful than a liberally minded atheist (at least in a way that is morally unjustifiable and/or noticeable) for example and part of the myth comes from the cultural baggage pertaining to how certain topics are viewed. Secondly, it's okay to view the faults of Christians even if before God they're just as big or even worse sinners than many atheists but atheists in the west are generally faultless in their average perception of topics relating to morality? Certainly not. A person doesn't need to be a Christian or any other theist to agree with what I just said.

Emma, I am so obliged to you for the messages you send out to the world. Only when I broke free from the lies and superstitious nonsense of religion was I able to truly live as I am. I was born bi, but the religious pressure that I grew up under kept me in denial and in fear of my natural sexuality. I am now, at the age of sixty, finally able to live a tolerant, loving and truthful life free from religion and hatred.

I used to be a Christian and enjoyed Allen Parrs videos. I'm currently in the process of deconstruction and leaving faith behind. This year I discovered that I am ace, grayromantic and non-binary. I am so thankful that I got to discover my identity apart from Christianity, although there is a lot to unlearn. I am not out to any Christians in my life, as I know that 99% of them are homophobic and transphobic. I'm close to my parents and am genuinely scared of telling them, because I have no clue how they would react or how our relationship would change. I don't know why I'm writing all if this, but ig I just want to say that it is indeed not easy being queer and having a lot of contact with Christians. Good luck with your progress - and commenting on a video like this is very worthwhile, it helps you practice saying these things so that it will be easier when you eventually start talking about it with the people in your life. And - that may be easier if you find a way to move to a distant city and start a new life there. That's been a godsend to lots of LGBTQ+ people over the centuries - it's a tried and true, but difficult, way to find a life you want to lead.

I'd argue that it's not true that 99 percent of Christians are homophobic. Maybe in the US. In Germany you're Christian if you visit church on Xmas and that's basically it. I am Christian, even studied theology and left the church because of the problems I had with the official doctrine (in particular the fact that even the Lutheran church in Germany, which is basically not as homophobic as the catholics, argued that homosexual couples should not be allowed to adopt children). Especially when comparing it to what Jesus actually said. I became a huge fan of Matthew Vines and his reformation project. I even wrote a book about homosexuality and the Bible (not published however). I think it is ridiculous that the church (doesn't much matter which denomination, behind the scenes they are mostly the same) thinks they are "upholding family values", considering what Jesus said about family. Let's put it bluntly - Jesus was not a family man 😂. Love thy neighbor and God were the most important commandments according to his teaching. I'd go one step further and agree to the apostle John (my favourite) and say - God is love. The rest is interpretation and especially US American Christians do a horrible job at interpreting the Bible. Every interpretation should be guided by love. And all we hear is hatred against everybody that according to these people isn't a "true Christian".

I am a transgender woman who is pro choice and a Christian. I watch your videos because I disagree vehemently with all the people you feature as subjects and think you deal with them in a smart level headed and well educated manner. My wife and I are currently moving to the other end of the US because we don't think it's safe for me to trans here and the general right wing politics of our state makes us extremely uncomfortable. I was raised to listen to right wing media. Instead of Alex Jones like in your case, it was people like Rush Limbaugh. I slowly realized in adulthood that those opinions did not make sense and did not fit in with the teachings of Jesus as I understand them. This has caused me to have a lot of strained relationships.
Believe what you want to believe, but don’t associate with any church. They hate you and want you to be who you are. Become an apostate. Otherwise, you are a hypocrite.

All you have to do is turn away from your sins and put your trust in what Jesus did on the cross, openly confess Him as your Lord and Savior and give your life to Him and you WILL be saved! Romans 10:9 " If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved" My friends, universalism won't save you for in John 14:6 "Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." I have been struggling with my anxiety expressing itself as eating disorder and I have been forced to do some introspection. There seems to be a correlation between my unwanted behavior and the Senate Supreme Court confirmations, then the leaking of the upcoming Roe v Wade overturning, the actual disaster, and the promise of coming after me as a gay man next. What the Christians need to get from the LGBT handbook is to adopt inclusion, acceptance, and tolerance, which is the heart of the movement. In Richard Day's movie, Straight-Jacket (2004), there is the line, "The difference between you and us is that we don't wish you harm." I have eaten eight cookies writing this.
I don't know if this advice will help you, but I try to do it: buy fruits, etc. not sweets. Just don't have them in your home. When you feel like snacking, snack the fruits, etc.
@@autohmae Several years ago, I developed a system to control my eating disorder. I prepare all my food from scratch using nutritional guides and fresh, non processed ingredients. Literally, everything I eat is calculated to have precisely measured calorie, fat, protein, carbohydrate, and fiber content. I traded one eating disorder for another. Of course, the system breaks down from time to time, but the frequency and intensity of these episodes of binging have increased precipitously. It seems everybody feels under attack and everybody's coping mechanisms are failing. I even detect a note of hysteria under Allen Parr's studied jovial presentation. He's scared too.

I have a daughter who is a lesbian. The last time we had a family gathering, my religious sister privately asked her to refer to her girlfriend as her "friend" in front of her teenage son that she home schools. She didn't want him to know about her "lifestyle". I don't even know if he knows that lgbtq+ people exist. His only associations are with people who belong to her church. He's nearly an adult now and it scares me. How long can she shelter him from the real world, and what's going to happen when he encounters it? What kind of man will he be? What kind of future will he have? How has his potential to lead a full life been restricted by people who have raised him in a bubble? The way I see it, he'll either grow up to be a horrible bigot, or the world will crush him because he's so naive. It makes me very sad.
I mean, i lost count on how many times he contradicted himself. The most egregious one was when he said that christians were the minority and after that he said they were the majority. plus,the bit of the echo chamber and the fact that they argue over details all the time. And he does not realize that this means that probably what he believes in or pretends to, is almost assuredly all fake. I mean no offence in saying this, it's just my opinion.

I was watching Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness with my father, and he lost his mind when he saw the scene with America's mothers. I asked him why he got so bent out of shape about it. He replied, "It's not realistic." My response was, of course, "You're watching a movie about wizards traveling through the multiverse, and you have a problem with lesbians being unrealistic." Also, I'm not sure, but I think that America's universe is all female, but I could be wrong about that.
As a Christian, let me express my utter disdain for what this "Christian" person says. Christ himself would be appalled at the message of hate this man is espousing. I'm not sure what he is, but he's NOT a Christian. Also, let me say that one of my best friends is gay, I have a gender-fluid grandchild, and I've had trans family members for over 50 years. (Not so) Fun fact: In some states in America, it's still a viable legal defence if you assault or murder a man to say he was gay and trying to solicite you and if there is sufficient evidence of this, you may be pardoned. Growing up, I lived in a fundamentalist household. My father is a pastor and he is determined to abide by God’s word. I am a bisexual atheist living in the ‘secular world’. I find it really easy to come out to most people, except to my father. I know I wouldn’t be accepted. It’s weird, I remember when ‘Finding Dory’ first came out and my dad was so disgusted about the lesbian couple that was displayed for 2 seconds. I found that scene so comforting, and yet I felt uneasy. I still feel uneasy whenever seeing scenes like that, and uneasy to accept myself. At the same time I am so proud of what I am learning and who I am becoming. I just hope I can shake off the ‘Fear of God’….
I was raised in a very very conservative household but I had good friends and they challenged my beliefs constantly until I finaly emancipated from my parents indoctrination with age 15, it is sad to see that this moment will not happen for the majority of children from conservative upbringing. I love how he just doesn't seem to understand how exhausting it can be to come out as something. I remember trying to explain to my step mom that I was Aromantic and just the blank stare of utter confusion she gave me after 10 minutes of me trying to tell her I have never been in love with someone just kinda said it all.
He exemplifies one of the major reasons I left the church. It became less about what we were for, and more so what ‘we were against’. My first weeks in, I was still on - what we called - a holy ghost high. There was a framed list hanging on a wall in the church. Intuitively I avoided looking at, or even asking about it. I surmised what it was about but figured if I don’t look at it, it would just go away. But finally, I decided to man-up; and sure ‘nuff it was a record of ‘Don’ts’. Don’t do this, can’t do that, don’t even think about the other - not a ‘Do’ to be seen, but plenty of ‘Don’ts’. To give somewhat the flavor, Bowling, was one of the prohibitions. What does…, yeah, don’t ask. My heart sank. I think that was the beginning of the end, though it took another 7- 8 years for the inevitable exodus. I look at this guy and see a walking, talking, ‘Don’t, or you're going to Hell’.
Fortunately, not every Christian or church is like this. When I was still a Christian myself, I went to a Presbyterian church. I found out that at all levels that denomination is supportive of the LGBT community. As a member of said community, it was a relief. I was able to be open and relaxed without fear of judgment.
Found this just before pride month ends! I was raised Christian, two generations of my family were ministers in their respective church's. I still identify, and believe I am, a Christian. I'm also a Demisexual cis gendered man who would wear nail polish every day if I didn't hate the smell when it's fresh. I have at least 2 other queer siblings, and countless other queer family members, most of which were raised under the same teachings as myself, with my minster grandfather telling us to love people, protect people, and that everyone is loved in the eyes of God. My experience being "Out" as Christian online does make me feel like a minority, with many of my immediate peers in the LGBTQ community not sharing the same religious views as me and making assumptions on my family based on them, which I know comes from experience and a place of trauma. As well as among other Christians who are very vocal about being against people I love being who they are and many have called me lesser for doing so. It's not up to me to say who's right and who's wrong, all I can say is be who you are, be proud of what makes you you, and don't try and force limits onto other people

I've been dealing with this crap for nearly 60 years and yes, it's exhausting. Because you can't just come out once and be done with it - as you move through life people of all kinds - liberal, conservative, progressive, fascist - automatically put you into a "straight" box. So coming out, and dealing with homophobia and even violence, is a life-long process. I occasionally watch a little of one of your videos - and then I have to stop, its just too painful to hear you rehash the crap I've been hearing for so long. I'm glad you have the strength to do it, I'm sure it has helped a lot of people open their minds a bit - but I can't take much of it. It's like movies about the early years of the AIDS epidemic - I'm glad they're out there, I'm glad that young people can see them, but I lived through the 1980s and 90s, and there's no way I want to relive it through a movie. Some things are impossible to forget. So - good job! Be sure to take time away from it to rest and replenish yourself, and watch yourself, too - if it gets to be too much for you, turn this into a cooking channel or a gardening channel. As a gay Christ follower, I personally feel like I'm always being offered an ultimatum, as when they say 'its okay to have homosexual attractions, just don’t act on them' I keep wondering 'to what extent though' and if it is just being romantically intimate with the same gender in anyway (dates, kissing, cuddling etc) then that just leaves me with being single, which is nice for a while, but I'm a hopeless romantic, I genuinely want to be in a relationship with a guy I like, yet they say "that's not acceptable" and they would either say "just pray and stay faithful and God will provide you with the right woman" yet, I don't like woman in that way, platonically sure, but romantically intimate, I'm good, thanks. So it feels like a lose lose for homosexuals, while the heterosexuals have at least a guaranteed promise to be in a relationship they are most likely interested in in a romantically intimate way. I don't blame God for any of this, i blame humanity.

What goes by the name "Christianity" in the US, for me looking from across the pond, looks like an extrem religious group based largely on old testament teaching with some vague Christian overtones and a good sprinkle of superstitious believe (which also mostly has no basis in the Bible as strange as it may sound but it is true - the Bible is not endorsing superstition. In the beginning of the "witch craze" of the middle ages and renaissance the church actually taught that there is no witchcraft - but that's a whole other story. A few points, I am a gay black man and I've always found it more triggering when black people spread homophobic hate. As black people we have all experienced a lot of the same kind of hate. Everything that he is saying about the LGBTQ+ community as far as what rights and freedoms we want or what we think or believe we should have, there was a time when black people were fighting for those very same rights and freedoms. In many ways, we still are. So to see my fellow black people fighting to deny my fellow LGBTQ+ family of the very same rights that black people have fought for and are still fighting for is incredibly hypocritical and disgusting 😤

I always baffled me how intolerate minority groups can be against other minorities.
In my naIve younger days I thought they all should consider themselves and would find natural allies against the oppressive capitalist regime. Less was true.
The issue is slavery has been the the earliest point of our heritage we go back to do to it being stripped away from us and a lot of us used religion as a way to cope with our oppression.
Not understanding that slave owners taught us the Bible before even allowing us to read or write as a way to control us and have us be content with our oppression.
While we are no longer slaves and we have more rights (even though they are constantly undermined and violated) we are still holding on to the codependency of organized religion which is still being used to control us. A lot of White Evangelicals say things that make most blacks uncomfortable (their response about police brutality and misconduct and BLM)and would strongly disagree with but they co-sign on everything their black pastor says who's likely regurgitating the same talking points(Lgbt issues) as our churches holds on to conservative values in spite of us never truely benefiting from it.
White Evangelicals always makes sure that what they preach(baring anything that controversial regarding race relations) trickles down to our communities to better control us and have us content.
That's why we are so behind when it comes to progress and acceptance.
They pit us against one another ( black women, LGBT people of color) so we never vote for anyone who doesn't pass the religious purity test (are they pro choice/LGBT rights)
This is something I didn't realize until I left Christianity and started watch more secular news and news commentary.
We need to abandon black conservativism/evangelicalism because it's keeping us at a stand still.

We had a gender bender day at my highschool and it was a really fun experiment for me. I went all out and even got a wig for it and showed up at school and noticed that I was the only one. Other girls just wore baggier clothes and put their hair up and still wore makeup, which is totally fine, it was just fascinating to see how everyone interpreted the day. Would have been even better if they had taught us about gender struggles and inclusion that day.

I am a straight cis guy. But I've never had any issue understanding how LGBT+ people can exist. For instance I find women attractive, so me understanding why lesbians, bi people or anyone else finding women attractive sounds perfectly logical to me. All I need to do to understand the rest of LGBT+ is to extend that logic to the same extent. But I have never understood why bigots and other angry people can't follow similar simple logic to it.

For people like him, being reminded that anyone not exactly like himself existing feels like oppression.
From my interactions with people with these attitudes, some of these Christians live in such an echo chamber of friends, tv, radio, and social media that they come to believe the lie that they're a tiny minority fighting to save the world. They have a persecution complex, despite being a provable majority.
Others understand it's a lie but prefer to fool themselves out of cognitive dissonance and rationalization. As David Hume said, reason is a slave of passion. And many in tv, radio, and UA-cam simply spread the lies for the sake of building an audience. It could be any of the three. But that's why it's best to stay away from toxic people (if possible): it gets tiring trying to decipher if they're lying, ignorant, or some combination of the two.

It irks me when Black/African-American people are conservative and they have problems with people demanding equal rights. It's like they are so blind they are not able to see themselves in the mirror.
These conservative, right-wing, working class people are not able to see the slippery slope forming. Various states are making it more difficult for homosexuals and Trans people. Both the various states and the Supreme Court have come down hard on women's right to choose. This is not going to stop with this. It will continue with the right to vote, restricting immigration, and so forth.
There has to be some sort of concerted effort to bring this to a halt.

As a black person, I find it especially egregious when people of colour and especially other black people are the ones espousing views likw those discussed above. Even more, everytime I see a black Christian, I think about how their ancestors were forced by slave owners or colonists to abolish their own religions and become christians.
Sometimes victims of oppression believe that the only way to not be the victim is by being the abuser. It's a variation on "I hit my kids because my dad hit me". When really nobody should know better more than someone who grew up being hit.
Just like how anyone can feel love the same is true in that anyone can feel hate. Even in the most optimistic version of our future we'll never get rid of the hate since it exists solely to counter love.
A lot of Black people think that oppressing another class makes White people like them more or puts them on the same class level as White people. It's just how men who are losers hate on successful women whereas successful men support successful women.

It doesn't even matter to me if someone finds it "fun". It's a personal choice that should be up to the uterus owner for a variety of reasons. Anyone who doesn't want an abortion doesn't have to get one. But the whole evangelical mindset is that they have to spread their opinion, they are strongly encouraged to gather more and more converts for the tribe. I doubt that mindset would ever be satisfied, even if the whole world did become Christian.

I was a Christian once but left because of the January 6th event. Only then did I finally have a word for what I had been feeling my whole life - I'm trans.
When I came out to my mom recently, she launched tons of anti-trans bullshit at me, citing Gays Against Groomers. I had to listen to two hours of her because I didn't want to be rude and hang up on her. Then I had a massive panic attack and left the house during a thunderstorm so I wouldn't wake up my roommates.
My experiences with Christians I don't know has been horrific. I get called a groomer every day. I can't believe I was ever a Christian. They are among the most hateful, violent people on Earth.
So what are you trying to say exactly? I think that you were hurt by unjustified and irrational responses from someone close to you. If so, that's an issue between you and the other person. Secondly when I was a teenager I rationalized and justified some hatred against the church, or rather a church that I previously went to for a certain period of time, after I more or less was atheistic after having my faith shaken and a number of things happen. Stuff like that happens, obviously you'll have a different opinion in 1 or 5 years or at least it will be more reworked or refined. As for me, I now clearly see that back then in my life no one truly owed me anything to the extent that I couldn't fully blame my problems on a church that I went to for their fault of not "fully preaching everything as they should," even if I was right that some missing elements could have been infinitely better if that church had them.
Lastly as someone who is a Christian but with problems in my life and heart, I want to say that nowhere in the Bible does it state or imply that mere believers in God's existence somehow meet heaven's criteria and that intellectual acknowledgement of God's existence is the beginning and end of the whole process of being on the road to heaven. People become "culturally" Christian, so it would better or less worse if you categorized people by their nationality or social class rather regarding the harassment you're experiencing because it's a dead end and pointless to use the "Christian" card, although it's pretty shallow and dishonest to group people in your case by nationality or socio-economic status as well. Obviously, a person can be kind and nice to you and maybe their kindness and smile would brighten your day, with you later finding out they're Christian, so I doubt you and all the people in the comments of this video are as _"centered against Christians or Christianity"_ as you may currently think you are.

Also, about people owing other people things, you're right, but many Christians think I owe them respect just because they are Christian and living the "righteous" life while I lead a life of sin. I don't CARE what kind of life they live, and I don't want it forced on me!

@@someperson2789 The point is not to be against Christianity, but to be against any system that would hurt someone in this way. A mother hurting their own child? Unforgivable, and something I also lived with when I came out. Our parents use the rhetoric they were taught to hurt us, and that is the real problem. Are all Christians bad, of course not. But after leaving the church and hearing how many awful things many Christians do to queer people on a regular basis, I can certainly say I'm better off now than I was before. I'm not anti-Christian, Christians are people after all. I just don't like the system of Christianity, what it represents, and the values it spreads.
I don't blame the original poster for their anger because that sounded like quite the horrible experience, but the more people share stories like this, the more there may be a fundamental problem connecting them together. But the point is that following a systems of rules so antagonistic to the existence of so many people just doesn't work for a lot of people. And when that system works to make lives actively worse, that's worth getting upset about.

I had to learn a foreign language, leave my country to find a job in a new culture, cutting all ties with my past to be able to come out. Only three years later when my life started settling somewhere I managed to tell my mother.
All so someone over the internet can tell me that I just "believe" what I am, as if it was a game, or a random thing I chose in a saturday evening because it's cool.
I want to think it's just ignorance, or lack of empathy, but at times it's hard to tell.
I mean, Allen Parr only has himself as his frame of reference - so maybe he goes through life, just pretending to be something and believe something he doesn't really feel inside.

That’s what I keep trying to convince my family. Gay and bisexual people are often shunned and mistreated and that’s why pride month exists and not straight pride month. I have been in a lot of relationships over the years with bisexual women and I always hear the same stories over and over again, either they have never told their family that they are bisexual because their parents would be disappointed and shame them, or their family knows that they are bisexual and won’t talk to them anymore. Nobody has to hide being straight and that’s why there is not straight pride month.
My best friend from high school recently came out as F to M trans. I'm a practicing Christian and my feeling about his decision is that it's a damned shame that he didn't feel comfortable coming out as his true self until now. He's still the same friend I knew and loved back in high school, the only thing that changed is his gender and appearance. Allen Parr is just full of it.
I came out as queer in high school but hid that I was trans from even my friends until I was an adult. Now I am extremely open. I have had issues at work, with people on the street and with people online. I recently started testosterone and vlogged it for my youtube. The amount of comments I had to delete on youtube and on instagram was ridiculous. I am lucky enough to have an amazing partner, an incredible supportive mom and siblings, a dad thats starting to try, and a boss and coworkers that protect me. But that doesnt mean the fear isnt there and that the hate stops. This guy has no idea

i honestly don't think i've ever heard of a christian or anyone against the lgbtq+ community or womens rights, EVER being silent. This is news to me. Usually they're pretty damn loud about not agreeing and who they actually are.

There are definitely some folks who silently judge and disapprove. They speak to me condescendingly, and with the language they use, it's difficult pick up on, and VERY uncomfortable to be aware of.

@@benry007 to be fair; almost all of are damned in perpetuity for one reason or another. The Bible is essentially a long list of don’t. Exodus 22 18 is a favourite. And 2 Kings 2:23-25 suggest best not call a pastor “baldy”.

i literally had a small confrontation with my parents. we were driving and the pride flag came up and i identified it as the equal rights movement. my mom was like "you mean gay rights" and i politely reminded her "the goal is rights equality"
Did your mother understand your point? I have a brother that has trouble with equal rights for everyone in the U.S., racism was an issue in the past but doesn't affect society today. I'm trying to use current examples that show incidents where someone's skin color or sexual preferences lead to unequal treatment by authority figures, and how a pattern emerges over time. But it's exhausting trying to change long term behaviors. I hope that you have better luck than I have recently.

I'm pretty sure they are thinking "special rights for gays." During the 1992 campaign against Colorado's Amendment 2 campaign, such people told me explicitly that I didn't deserve equal rights and that my desires for "equal rights" meant I was asking for special rights. During the campaign for gay marriage rights, that was considered a special right. All of this completely unselfconsciously: they think they deserve some things and we don't, and that's the way it should be.

When I came out to my parents my dad told my stepmom “tell that queer to go to bed” and even to this day I get snide little jabs at ky sexuality just because I’m married to a woman instead of a man with things such as “all he needed to do was find the right woman” or “I know it was just a rebellious phase”

The same people who think that gay individuals are going through a phase or just haven't met the right cis partner tend to overlap almost entirely with the people who think they know more about climate change than the actual professional scientists that study it everyday know. It's all shades of the Dunning-Kruger Effect and personally I think is reinforced by a religious upbringing that doesn't focus on the importance of critical thinking and epistemology.
I'm in America and I don't tell anyone I'm Bi except my kids know. I'm also transmasc, but didn't realize that until recently, when I started watching video's and found the words to express what I've been feeling my entire life. I never "seriously adored" muppets as a kid or as an adult, but I watched the Adam Savage videos on the Fraggle Rock puppets and it was incredible. Those puppeteers are awesome. The puppets have gaze, they have body language, they have personality, it's wonderful.
Puppetry is now an art form I have serious respect for, and I am definitely noticing it more and more, the skill and effort involved to make an awesome character.

I used to be Catholic. It really hit me hard when I learned such a large portion of christians are so hateful, even to one another. There always seems to be some sort of purity test and I've never fully grasped how some individuals can't do the bare minimum of just letting people be themselves when other people just living doesn't impact their own personal lives.
I recently had a squabble with a "christian" who claimed that christians had never participated in holy wars or religious wars, and one of his first statements was that I couldn't mention the Crusades, because Catholics aren't christians. I'm just baffled by their arrogance and ignorance.
They are afraid of the influence on their children, but it's really sad that hiding their children from many life experiences. I'd still became bi even after decades of repression from Christianity.
I was raised Roman Catholic in the Boston, MA area. In the 1980’s I moved to Cincinnati to work at a computer company that was founded by some “fundamentalist Christians.”
98 of them, plus two Catholics.

It always blew my mind because Catholics were the first Christians . Protestant religions didn’t even come around until the 1500’s but an embarrassingly large number of Christians don’t even know where or how their religion started .

I started calling pro-life people anti-choice sometime ago because it is a far more accurate representation of their position than it is to call them pro-life and I'm really glad to see that it's become rather common for pro-choice people to refer to the other side as anti-choice because a lot of them are opposed to a lot of things that would actually make life better and worth living so they don't deserve that label.
i don't get the "pro-life-label" either. thankfully abortion is not prohibitet where i'm from. but 50 years ago it was. and there were a lot of women who either killed themselfs because they saw no other way out or they did by accident because the procedure was unsafe. how can someone call themselfs pro-life when they are the reason people are dead?

My friend is legitimately afraid to enter most churches with her wife. Even if they have acceptance signs outside and seem queer positive, they're afraid to hold hands or sit too closely during a service. People like this guy are why.
If your friend wishes to attend church, tell them to look for "welcoming and affirming." This particular phrase means more than "all are welcome here because we're all equally sinners" but means that queer persons can participate in all levels of the church including leadership!

Just the fact that the Bible has different interpretations, should make some people doubt that it is true, Or at least that it needs to be taken literally, I can get behind some of the moral teachings, but if you take it at a literal meaning it is self-contradictory and quite frankly horrifying in some parts. Well it's a myth that the average Christian in the west is more ignorant or hateful than a liberally minded atheist (at least in a way that is morally unjustifiable and/or noticeable) for example and part of the myth comes from the cultural baggage pertaining to how certain topics are viewed. Secondly, it's okay to view the faults of Christians even if before God they're just as big or even worse sinners than many atheists but atheists in the west are generally faultless in their average perception of topics relating to morality? Certainly not.

I was born bi, but the religious pressure that I grew up under kept me in denial and in fear of my natural sexuality. I am now, at the age of sixty, finally able to live a tolerant, loving and truthful life free from religion and hatred.

I never look for confrontation from religious people, but if they ask my opinion, I simply state that I am not convinced that God exists. I used to be a Christian and enjoyed Allen Parrs videos. I'm currently in the process of deconstruction and leaving faith behind. This year I discovered that I am ace, grayromantic and non-binary. I am so thankful that I got to discover my identity apart from Christianity, although there is a lot to unlearn. I am not out to any Christians in my life, as I know that 99% of them are homophobic and transphobic. I'm close to my parents and am genuinely scared of telling them, because I have no clue how they would react or how our relationship would change. I don't know why I'm writing all if this, but ig I just want to say that it is indeed not easy being queer and having a lot of contact with Christians. Our lives are by far not ad easy as Allen makes it seem to be

Good luck with your progress - and commenting on a video like this is very worthwhile, it helps you practice saying these things so that it will be easier when you eventually start talking about it with the people in your life. And - that may be easier if you find a way to move to a distant city and start a new life there. That's been a godsend to lots of LGBTQ+ people over the centuries - it's a tried and true, but difficult, way to find a life you want to lead.

I'd argue that it's not true that 99 percent of Christians are homophobic. Maybe in the US. In Germany you're Christian if you visit church on Xmas and that's basically it. I am Christian, even studied theology and left the church because of the problems I had with the official doctrine (in particular the fact that even the Lutheran church in Germany, which is basically not as homophobic as the catholics, argued that homosexual couples should not be allowed to adopt children).
Especially when comparing it to what Jesus actually said.
I became a huge fan of Matthew Vines and his reformation project. I even wrote a book about homosexuality and the Bible (not published however). I think it is ridiculous that the church (doesn't much matter which denomination, behind the scenes they are mostly the same) thinks they are "upholding family values", considering what Jesus said about family. Let's put it bluntly - Jesus was not a family man 😂.
Love thy neighbor and God were the most important commandments according to his teaching. I'd go one step further and agree to the apostle John (my favourite) and say - God is love. The rest is interpretation and especially US American Christians do a horrible job at interpreting the Bible. Every interpretation should be guided by love. And all we hear is hatred against everybody that according to these people isn't a "true Christian".

I am a transgender woman who is pro choice and a Christian. I watch your videos because I disagree vehemently with all the people you feature as subjects and think you deal with them in a smart level headed and well educated manner. My wife and I are currently moving to the other end of the US because we don't think it's safe for me to trans here and the general right wing politics of our state makes us extremely uncomfortable. I was raised to listen to right wing media. Instead of Alex Jones like in your case, it was people like Rush Limbaugh. I slowly realized in adulthood that those opinions did not make sense and did not fit in with the teachings of Jesus as I understand them. This has caused me to have a lot of strained relationships.
Believe what you want to believe, but don’t associate with any church. They hate you and want you to be who you are. Become an apostate. Otherwise, you are a hypocrite.

Really I just mean when you meet new people, get a job, dating, just a lot of life situations where you might want to express your sexuality as part of yourself. I think some straight people see “coming out” as a one off thing but the world doesn’t automatically see us as queer individuals so we have to explain multiple times, thus we could be coming out quite often

I have been struggling with my anxiety expressing itself as eating disorder and I have been forced to do some introspection. There seems to be a correlation between my unwanted behavior and the Senate Supreme Court confirmations, then the leaking of the upcoming Roe v Wade overturning, the actual disaster, and the promise of coming after me as a gay man next. What the Christians need to get from the LGBT handbook is to adopt inclusion, acceptance, and tolerance, which is the heart of the movement. In Richard Day's movie, Straight-Jacket (2004), there is the line, "The difference between you and us is that we don't wish you harm." I have eaten eight cookies writing this.
I don't know if this advice will help you, but I try to do it: buy fruits, etc. not sweets. Just don't have them in your home. When you feel like snacking, snack the fruits, etc.
@@autohmae Several years ago, I developed a system to control my eating disorder. I prepare all my food from scratch using nutritional guides and fresh, non processed ingredients. Literally, everything I eat is calculated to have precisely measured calorie, fat, protein, carbohydrate, and fiber content. I traded one eating disorder for another. Of course, the system breaks down from time to time, but the frequency and intensity of these episodes of binging have increased precipitously. It seems everybody feels under attack and everybody's coping mechanisms are failing. I even detect a note of hysteria under Allen Parr's studied jovial presentation. He's scared too.

I have a daughter who is a lesbian. The last time we had a family gathering, my religious sister privately asked her to refer to her girlfriend as her "friend" in front of her teenage son that she home schools. She didn't want him to know about her "lifestyle". I don't even know if he knows that lgbtq+ people exist. His only associations are with people who belong to her church. He's nearly an adult now and it scares me. How long can she shelter him from the real world, and what's going to happen when he encounters it? What kind of man will he be? What kind of future will he have? How has his potential to lead a full life been restricted by people who have raised him in a bubble? The way I see it, he'll either grow up to be a horrible bigot, or the world will crush him because he's so naive. It makes me very sad.

I mean, i lost count on how many times he contradicted himself. The most egregious one was when he said that christians were the minority and after that he said they were the majority. plus,the bit of the echo chamber and the fact that they argue over details all the time. And he does not realize that this means that probably what he believes in or pretends to, is almost assuredly all fake. I mean no offence in saying this, it's just my opinion.

I was watching Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness with my father, and he lost his mind when he saw the scene with America's mothers. I asked him why he got so bent out of shape about it. He replied, "It's not realistic." My response was, of course, "You're watching a movie about wizards traveling through the multiverse, and you have a problem with lesbians being unrealistic." Also, I'm not sure, but I think that America's universe is all female, but I could be wrong about that.
As a Christian, let me express my utter disdain for what this "Christian" person says. Christ himself would be appalled at the message of hate this man is espousing. I'm not sure what he is, but he's NOT a Christian. Also, let me say that one of my best friends is gay, I have a gender-fluid grandchild, and I've had trans family members for over 50 years. (Not so) Fun fact: In some states in America, it's still a viable legal defence if you assault or murder a man to say he was gay and trying to solicite you and if there is sufficient evidence of this, you may be pardoned. The same defence is not afforded to women who are harrassed by men. It's called the "Gay panic defence"

i know this video is a couple of years old now, but i wanted to take a moment to say thank you Emma. as an man who didnt have the courage to even identify within myself that i am queer until i was 30 years old, thank you. and as an american who in 2024 is facing the real possibility of Christian nationalism and fundamentalism becoming prevelant, thank you for using your platform to be vocal for us when so few can have a voice
Growing up, I lived in a fundamentalist household. My father is a pastor and he is determined to abide by God’s word. I am a bisexual atheist living in the ‘secular world’. I find it really easy to come out to most people, except to my father. I know I wouldn’t be accepted. It’s weird, I remember when ‘Finding Dory’ first came out and my dad was so disgusted about the lesbian couple that was displayed for 2 seconds. I found that scene so comforting, and yet I felt uneasy. I still feel uneasy whenever seeing scenes like that, and uneasy to accept myself. At the same time I am so proud of what I am learning and who I am becoming. I just hope I can shake off the ‘Fear of God’….
I was raised in a very very conservative household but I had good friends and they challenged my beliefs constantly until I finaly emancipated from my parents indoctrination with age 15, it is sad to see that this moment will not happen for the majority of children from conservative upbringing. Coming from a straight cis man in America, this was beyond infuriating! Thanks for drawing attention to and calling out these hypocritical and hateful views (even though it has my blood boiling).
I love how he just doesn't seem to understand how exhausting it can be to come out as something. I remember trying to explain to my step mom that I was Aromantic and just the blank stare of utter confusion she gave me after 10 minutes of me trying to tell her I have never been in love with someone just kinda said it all.
He exemplifies one of the major reasons I left the church. It became less about what we were for, and more so what ‘we were against’.
My first weeks in, I was still on - what we called - a holy ghost high. There was a framed list hanging on a wall in the church. Intuitively I avoided looking at, or even asking about it. I surmised what it was about but figured if I don’t look at it, it would just go away. But finally, I decided to man-up; and sure ‘nuff it was a record of ‘Don’ts’. Don’t do this, can’t do that, don’t even think about the other - not a ‘Do’ to be seen, but plenty of ‘Don’ts’. To give somewhat the flavor, Bowling, was one of the prohibitions. What does…, yeah, don’t ask. My heart sank. I think that was the beginning of the end, though it took another 7- 8 years for the inevitable exodus.
I look at this guy and see a walking, talking, ‘Don’t, or you're going to Hell’.
Fortunately, not every Christian or church is like this. When I was still a Christian myself, I went to a Presbyterian church. I found out that at all levels that denomination is supportive of the LGBT community. As a member of said community, it was a relief. I was able to be open and relaxed without fear of judgment.

Found this just before pride month ends! I was raised Christian, two generations of my family were ministers in their respective church's. I still identify, and believe I am, a Christian. I'm also a Demisexual cis gendered man who would wear nail polish every day if I didn't hate the smell when it's fresh. I have at least 2 other queer siblings, and countless other queer family members, most of which were raised under the same teachings as myself, with my minster grandfather telling us to love people, protect people, and that everyone is loved in the eyes of God.
My experience being "Out" as Christian online does make me feel like a minority, with many of my immediate peers in the LGBTQ community not sharing the same religious views as me and making assumptions on my family based on them, which I know comes from experience and a place of trauma. As well as among other Christians who are very vocal about being against people I love being who they are and many have called me lesser for doing so.
It's not up to me to say who's right and who's wrong, all I can say is be who you are, be proud of what makes you you, and don't try and force limits onto other people

What you said about abortion reminds me of an analogy I thought of. You don't see people screaming at patients about to receive a life-saving organ transplant, and you don't see people debating on whether or not people should have the right to an organ transplant. Abortions are also important medical procedures, so why debate one's right to them?

I've been dealing with this crap for nearly 60 years and yes, it's exhausting. Because you can't just come out once and be done with it - as you move through life people of all kinds - liberal, conservative, progressive, fascist - automatically put you into a "straight" box. So coming out, and dealing with homophobia and even violence, is a life-long process.
I occasionally watch a little of one of your videos - and then I have to stop, its just too painful to hear you rehash the crap I've been hearing for so long. I'm glad you have the strength to do it, I'm sure it has helped a lot of people open their minds a bit - but I can't take much of it. It's like movies about the early years of the AIDS epidemic - I'm glad they're out there, I'm glad that young people can see them, but I lived through the 1980s and 90s, and there's no way I want to relive it through a movie. Some things are impossible to forget.
So - good job! Be sure to take time away from it to rest and replenish yourself, and watch yourself, too - if it gets to be too much for you, turn this into a cooking channel or a gardening channel. Protect yourself - we all have to do that.

As a gay Christ follower, I personally feel like I'm always being offered an ultimatum, as when they say 'its okay to have homosexual attractions, just don’t act on them' I keep wondering 'to what extent though' and if it is just being romantically intimate with the same gender in anyway (dates, kissing, cuddling etc) then that just leaves me with being single, which is nice for a while, but I'm a hopeless romantic, I genuinely want to be in a relationship with a guy I like, yet they say "that's not acceptable" and they would either say "just pray and stay faithful and God will provide you with the right woman" yet, I don't like woman in that way, platonically sure, but romantically intimate, I'm good, thanks. So it feels like a lose lose for homosexuals, while the heterosexuals have at least a guaranteed promise to be in a relationship they are most likely interested in in a romantically intimate way.
I don't blame God for any of this, i blame humanity.
