I love the York sidings hotel, it is amazing for trainspotting.
I've passed that place so many times while on the East Coast Main Line, never stopped there, great video
I've driven past it numerous times. Always wondered what it was like inside.
There is a set of five or six down at Dawlish Warren
7:52 that's the rarest class 66 you saw! 😮
66779 (Evenint Star) It was the last class 66 ever made and it was painted into old British Railways green livery! 😄
Yes, I know my 66's well! 😂
I’ve pasted that place so many times on the ECML and wanted to see what it actually was like; thank you for the tour.
A train spotters dream. Looks lovely.
That sign looks like a milepost sign, 5 miles from a point where the mileage is measured from
The Zero post is at York Station.
@@andrewnelson4057thank you Andrew 🙂
Ayyy! Been here 4 times now. Its amazing!
In regards to the sign, from what I’ve been able to find out (with help from a thread here in the comments ofc), this is indeed a milepost sign that was once placed 5 miles from York Station and is most likely over (or at least close to) a century old. Images of this particular sign made for Picton Junction and Rillington Junction are also online. The purpose of said mileposts is to make it easier to determine the location on the tracks relative to a major junction/station.
I find it fascinating to see your videos on the UK railways popping up on my feed lately, especially after finding out more on the past of the railways in my own country. Love the vids though and looks like I’ll be planning another trip over in following years lol.
I wonder how you do this all and Uni, must be a challenge
Well done
Great video. There is something special about the trains and the network that's so fascinating 😊
Being a certain age, can remember the mark 1 corridor/compartment coaches. From late 70s, into the mid 80s
that hotel looks really cool & perfect for any train spotter & is def a perfect place to watch the trains infact if i ever stayed there i could kill the time before breakfast filming the trains pass till its time for breakfast awesome vlog
One of the quirkiest places to stay I've ever seen is at Apple Mount Retreat, Suffolk. One of the types of accommodation they offer is a converted 1938 tube stock driver car, the one that features a driver's cab at one end in other words.
It's not cheap admittedly, roughly 200GBP per night on AirBNB, but it looks like one of the quirkier places to stay I've ever seen
You should have gone onto the viewing platform!
The sidings hotel, i loved it when i stayed here, it was amazing, a bit warm but nice
Darn it I wanna go there now
Absolutely brilliant 😂. Need to stay there
Absolutely amazing place
I think if stayed there for the night, I'd be tempted to stay up watching trains instead of going to sleep 😂
Was in fact very tempting!
A similar sort of place is the Railroad Park Resort in Dunsmuir, California (ua-cam.com/video/b0jz_pIhfx0/v-deo.htmlsi=dIaoCEamdmTA1iKx) which consist of a bunch of railroad cabooses turned into hotel rooms. My wife and I have stayed there a couple of times, staying in cabooses with cupolas (that's the attic-like part above the main part of the car where railroaders sat to look down the length of their train to watch for any problems). On one trip, I was sitting upstairs drinking a cup of coffee when a herd of deer wandered into the grounds and started nibbling on the grass. Like The Sidings, you need a vehicle to get to it, but it's a lovely place to stay.
A C1 is not bad at all, except maybe for the lack of power sometimes, but hey it's essentially a Toyota, so rather reliable! Nice colour as well. 👍🏼😎
Great video. See also Rail Holiday at St Germans in Cornwall. I recommend the Old Luggage Van.
Wow! I was there this school holiday as well, Tuesday 2nd April for 2 nights, and I was in room 9 as well!!
You were there only 5 days after us then!
*Point to point* Millbrook (Marston Vale) to Millbrook (isle of Wight)
Hello 👋. This was fun. The hotel looks great. Were the sounds of passing trains soothing during the night, or did they keep you awake?! I really like these two-hander videos, with you and Natt presenting together. Thanks for sharing.
I hope you both had a lovely break, those exams are looming!
Brilliant video Nick, I do believe I have passed the location of that coach once, the accomodation facilities it has do look rather nice. :)
I feel obligated to go look at that hotel
Yaay you visited Knaresborough my town!
This looks really cool! I’m surprised it’s so cheap!
Glovestrains did something similar in one carriage
Although that was on a clifftop rather than off the railway. Also recently Scott from PlanesTrainsEverything took a trip to Budapest I believe specifically to visit a railway carriage that's been turned into a restaurant. We have one near us too - Junction 28 in Bassaleg, although the railway next to it is now a scarcely used (if at all) freight line branch off the Ebbw Valley line that only goes as far as Machen.
Nice video as always. Was wondering if you could do a video on the Warrington avoiding line built by the CLC. There's a decent patch of old grade down in Latchford
Nice Videos 🥰 love the style 😊 try a little bit more food and red review etc too is my tip. I say you could be good at that kind of thing too. May things go well with the GF too, nice to have an other half in your videos to enhance videos.
In reply to the question about whether any Mk3 coaches have been similarly converted, I live near to one of these in Stannington, Northumberland, which is also positioned next to the ECML. Google Stannington Pullman. It’s more expensive than the Sidings, but much more spacious, as it’s not just one compartment.
I love the Sidings hotel!!
Great price & location indeed ! :) Did you make Natt a cup of tea too ? Hope you enjoyed yourselves....
there's one in Amsterdam that's an old carriage and actually on the tracks its super cool!!
I did something like this by Northiam station on the Kent and East Sussex Railway
that looks a great place to stay
I believe some Mk3s are already being converted in to holiday accommodation
I went to the hostel in Glenfinnan that's also an old train carriage. It's so much fun 😀 but not as good a view of the train line
What app do you use on your phone to locate trains ?
What was the App being used to track which trains would be passing?
realtimetrains.co.uk :)
You can stay in a train carriage in dawlish warren! I say you make a video on it as it is very cool 👍
You can say in a single box in Scotland
this is so awesome i am planning to get into vlogging how do u vlog for such a long journey do u have any advice
What app did you use at 5:26?
That is realtime trains
point to point northernmost station in the UK or England to the southernmost station in The uk or england
Looks a cool location
though I do worry that being so close
to the East Coast Main Line
and with single glazed windows
it might be a little noisy at night.
What is the quiet time on the line like?
It was a bit noisy yes but I didn’t mind it that much there’s only really a train every hour or so through the night
@@InkItOut
It is for the experience,
I suppose but not sure
I would chose it.
Well done Nick and Natt, like a pair of kids in a sweet shop. You deserved a break. Hope you got a good nights sleep, wink wink.....
my frend sons like you verry much
why not do a pointless journey from gainsborough central to Gainsborough lea road?
7:27 that is a mile marker
I suppose it is too late to tell you to behave yourselves! 🙂
Do pointless journeys from St Budeaux Victoria Road to St Budeaux Ferry Road please.
why can't you just go to dawlish warren aswell?
Is she your girlfriend? 🤔
Either that or Nick's never going to hear the end of Sweet Home Alabama
@@mattevans4377 😂😂😂
Of course she is, obviously.
That is such a cool hotel!! We need more of these across the country
Nice seeing you here ! 😃
89 quid a night and they have Yorkshire Tea. That is elite value!
havent even started watching it but i know id be good. Just wanted the first comment.
There’s one of those in Goathland on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway - which Heartbeat fans will know as Aidensfield! Not quite as posh - it’s called a “camping coach” - a former train carriage converted into a holiday home!
I went there in 1994 for my 40th birthday. It was owned by railway enthusiasts with lots of railway memorabilia. It became I believe an Italian restaurant after that.
That C1, what a fire whip
Citroen C1 represent 🔥
AKA Toyota Yaris
@@simontay4851try Toyota Aygo or Peugeot 107
C1 car and a C1 coach, how pleasant.
@@NickBadley What app did you use at 5:26?
Nice video! I have an idea for pointless journeys:
Walthamstow Queens Road - Walthamstow Central
The route depends on if it is the weekday or weekend unless you don’t take c2c towards Central London
I stayed somewhere similar near Whitby, it was a holiday cottage though, not a hotel
Unsure if it’s the one you mean but there’s one off the NYMR that looks cool :)
This place is still in a pinned message on my Telegram chat with my other half to go and visit, will definitely get to it this year! :)
Went to the Sidings restaurant the day I left school in Thirsk.
June 1989.
Hiya! It's Bob! How you doing? So sad about DP😢.
@@robertwilloughby8050
Morning Bob.
DP?
David Port?
@@andrewnelson4057 Yeah. He'd been a bit naughty with women, got sent to prison, and commented suicide with a massive overdose of smuggled in MDMA. Terrible. Strange suicide method though.
@@robertwilloughby8050 Yes, I had a look at Yorkshire Live.
@@robertwilloughby8050 Where are you these days Bob...?
You need the Ordering Actual option on Real Time Trains, rather than Planned. How did you get on with trying to sleep with the overnight freight trains passing by?
Nice
I live like half a mile from there!!!!
Are you acoustic
Another great video, have to look into this for me and my fella. Was great to see you and Nat the other day, hope you both enjoyed your concert. From the woman in the Premier Inn Lobby 😂
Was great to see you too! Hope you enjoyed your Pullman! Our concert was great too 😁
@@InkItOut I work for LSL so get to work behind some of the best traction. I’m off to Aviemore tomorrow! Get to see the whole of the UK, it’s amazing
Hope you enjoyed the Pullman! Was nice to see you!
what was the name of your carriage, because i’m looking because we live in darlington so it’s pretty close by!
We stayed in The Orient Express room :)
Absolutely excellent video! The dynamic between you two just gets better and better!! This place looks amazing and great value.
Though I am shocked you have a driving license haha, though I guess it makes sense as you’re not in London
Very nice to see a former old railway carriage now turned into a hotel. Very nice 😊
7:31 I didn't expect to see that sign from Sussex. I live in one of those locations on it.
Slept there for my 13th just in August 2023, I got 4 hours of sleep because of the freight trains (in the room with the private balcony)
WOW! I've been there a few times, me and my wife had our honeymoon there in 1996. We went back in 2018 and it was still great dispite change of ownership.
Nice little review for me because I'm planning to book when i can! Cheers Nick! 😊
I stayed here last year it was ammmaaaazziiiinnnnggggg
Very interesting and fun video, thank you!
And I have stayed there Nick. It is a superb stay.
was the bed comfy
Brilliant video!
This is so cool!!
Cool
