Lots of metal parts so thats why it is still working today. I have the Sony EV-S700 and EV-S500 Video 8 home decks and they are still working great, built like a tank.
Just some info, I have been able to get my other 2 x PC55 sensors working. Using an 11,000 lumen torch and shining into the sensor seems to power them on. Had to turn the light on and off a number of times and it seems to kick start the sensor. Might be worth a try.
hello, you may need to correct the video title :) another interesting fact with this model (or another very close to this one, but in silver velvet) they offered an optional PCM coder. and this possible feature let imagine frank zappa about what could have been considered as the first audio streaming service. he imagined a service using phone line coupled to a modem itself coupled to a betamax with PCM option, and sending PCM music title you can have choosen over the line, and the betamax recording the stream in real time. was definitely an interesting concept. i don't remember where i've read that, probabely somewhere on internet .
Oops on the title. Rushing to get this one uploaded before catching a plane. Thanks. I was just very relieved that it actually worked as promised. Thanks for watching.
Betamax was a great format , because the tape speed was slightly faster the picture quality was better that vhs . VHS won the format war due to price and VHS having longer record times

I've had a lot of success with older Sonys. The Canons not so much.

I have noticed as well that shining a bright light into the sensor brings it back to life at least temporarily.
Great Betamax videorecorder 👌👌👌
And it works. First time this century I've seen a working Betamax.
Thanks for watching.

You might need to get a small Sony Trinitron TV to connect to it. I have a Sony 6 inch Trinitron from 1981 coming this week :)
Great idea. It would look much better on a CRT.

Yes longer recording time was the primary reason. VHS was longer every step of the way. The smaller beta tape was it's undoing.
