As a casual viewer I would like to say I do prefer your more competitive leaning content and you more serious leagues, you will always be the Bant wizard this side of the mississippi
I mean, in an ideal world, I love seeing a new brew be competitive. Occasionally playing a tier 0 deck is fine. I'd get bored if it was Delver everyday though
Ive been seeing so much of your round 1 opponent's deck and variants of it in leagues lately. That deck is terrifying and it's making want some number of hydroblasts in the board. Also i think you're right about PoP over Moon now that people know about the tech
@BoshNRoll After an hour of thought on this while walking my dog, I came to some interesting findings regarding portent vs preordain. Portent is better when you mishra's bauble your opponent while surveilling and seeing your top card and liking it, then getting the option to target them. Similarly, you can find 3 cards that you want to mill for delirium or just mill them to get them out of the deck for a shuffle. It is also better with counterbalance, better against endurance, personal tutor, mystic forge, mystic sanctuary, vesuvan drifter, narset & leovold and triumph of st kate; also weird cases with daze being card neutral, seek the beast being card positive combined with the monarch and initiative additional draws can keep you at max handsize for your clean up.
My best guesses for Portent as casual who has never played legacy - As you mentioned, it can mess with Doomsday piles - In those close matches where the opponent is on top-deck mode and NEEDS answer for one of your threats, you can mess with their draws - You can mess with opposing Delver to try and prevent their Delver from flipping
Just as this video came out, my girlfriend called me. She said, “babe come over, I called out of work.” I said, “can’t, I’m busy Q U E S T I N G .” Then I proceeded to Q U E S T hither and yon, stacking my +1/+1 counters to the sky, pondering all the portents, sternly dismissing all the creatures and enchantments that would dare interrupt my Q U E S T.
I am very late to this but at shortly after 41:00 you could bauble yourself in response to the thoughtseize. That way if there was a card on top that you didn't want to draw you could Daze the thoughtseize to get a DRC trigger. Obviously bouncing a land and giving the opponent 2 life is a real cost but you wouldn't be forced to commit the Daze after the Bauble anyway. I think the line taken in the video was not incorrect at all but the other one was fun to think about
The only scenario where drawing a card now versus next upkeep makes a significant difference here is if you're digging for a land. I think the option to look at your opponent's cards is good enough to be worth giving up that very minor case. It also makes them wait until their turn to Bowmaster it.
questing druid can hit counterspells so portent gets the force or daze on thirde place questing druid's adventure then you draw the counterspell and not give information
You didn't miss lethal in the last round when you were going on about that. Double bolt face plus all attack would be 12 damage, they were at 13 so they would have survived at one.
I think there’s actually an argument to bringing in more fons versus rescaminator. Fable actually gives so much value that the 2-1 is arguably worth it if they try to out value you (and maybe that’s wrong playing delver, but that’s what I’ve been doing with control)
Yeah, Force only requires that the pitched card be in your hand to cast it. So you can't Seek on an empty hand for Force + blue card, but you can Seek a Force when you have the blue card in hand.
There's an arguement to be made for aggressively using forces you spike off seek than. If your opponenent gets to expect it they might play around a force you exile out even if you have no way or intent to pitch cast it.@@drpibisback7680
Why does bolting Namesticker Goblin in response to its ETB trigger cause it to not generate mana? Is it because, although 0 is less than 9, its still not at least 1, so it fizzles the trigger?
@@ThePteranod Ah, part of the ETB trigger checks to see if its still on the battlefield during the resolution? Do I understand that right? Also, are there ANY other cards with ETB triggers that check to make sure they are still in play for the ETB trigger to happen?
In paper play, the "place a sticker on this" is part of the trigger. If you kill it in response, then it never gets a name and never generates mana. Online they just templated it to have an additional "if its on the battlefield" clause to simulate paper play without coding the entire sticker mechanic for one card.
@@andrewbaynard2914Animate Dead is infamous for its unintuitive templating, starting with "When Animate Dead enters the battlefield, if it's on the battlefield...".
Every land is an Island so Flooded Strand and Scalding Tarn are functionally identical. Cards like Pithing Needle and Surgical Extraction make it beneficial to split them if it's otherwise the same.
for the ~1:14:00 mark, just a note because you didn't seem to notice the line (and because combat isn't as relevant in legacy I can see how a primarily legacy player just wouldn't have run into the interaction) if you do stuff post combat turning on delirium doesn't matter because they didn't have the text when you were in combat. it can also be pretty useful if you want to block some critter with a 3/3 darcy

I like both this and the brews.
I would love to see more of the competitive stuff. But I guess the Patreons are deciding.

Portent is to shuffle away opp St Kath lol
Toxic behavior
Based choice then
I mean it's not a card on mtgo but in paper it's definitely played right? Unholy heat will put it back in the deck

Portent in this deck is for setting up seek the beast, it does it simply better than preordain
I watched quite some games of the eternal weekend, so nice to see a tribal deck beeing competative again (goblins).

My guess is that portent is there to mess up doomsday piles. And its close enough power level to preordain.
For me the comparison is with Ponder
@@ivanlazaro7444well, you can't play 6 Ponders, which is why the comparison is to Preordain, which is usually considered the third best cantrip.

That final game vs goblins was wild
Portant and wasteland can brainstorm lock your opp from important lands or cards or mana choke points enough time for this deck to win
I have made the sound 22:26 many, many times.
Same. I rewatched that at least 10 times. Near infinite serotonin
Whenever I see a super short round coming (specifically round 3 here), I know some shit is going to go down.
The reason this deck plays Portent over Preordain is because Preordain is legal in modern right now and that's gross.
Right. Can’t play a boring modern card when legacy exclusives are available.
Legacy and vintage feel so much better than modern. How expensive is the entry point for both of these formats?
Edit: I'm referring to mtgo
Both formats are healthy and fun right now. Entry is comparable, and in some cases cheaper, to modern on MTGO.
