DDR3 vs DDR3L RAM | PC3 and PC3L RAM Difference | DDR3 RAM

In this video I have explained the difference between DDR3 and DDR3L RAM. There are two types of DDR3 RAMs. The both type of RAMs are physically made up same and have the same notch position and can be fit in the slot of each other physically. The first one is DDR3 which is also referred as PC3 that works in 1ST 2ND AND 3RD generation intel laptops and operates at 1.5Volts. This RAM doesn’t work properly in 4th and 5th generation laptops and can cause blue screen errors and system instability. The second type DDR3L RAM is also referred as PC3L RAM that works in 4th and 5th generation Intel laptops and operates at 1.35Volts. The DDR3L PC3L RAM is backward compatible with DDR3 PC3 systems of 1st 2nd and 3rd generation. Therefore, you can use DDR3L RAM in all generations from 1st generation to 5th generation.

@@-Spardox Wrong. DDR3 is designed for consuming voltage slightly higher than DDR3L

@@nikzz9858 It is obvious. See, an electrical component can consume voltage safely just 1 volt higher than its rated voltage. So, if the motherboard supports DDR3 RAM(1.5 Volt), then it should be able to support DDR3L RAM(1.3 Volt). Else if it supports DDR3L RAM(1.3 volt maximum), then no doubt that DDR3 RAM might fit into DDR3L slot but will never supply the required voltage to that DDR3 RAM

I'll write in short points:-
1) If your laptop can actually run both DDR3 and DDR3L, then both type of RAM are compatible with your laptop system.
2) DDR3 consumes more power than DDR3L but it generally provides faster speed than DDR3L.

Hello, I have HP pavilion g6 2231 tx laptop in that samsung 2gb + 2gb sticks ddr3 1600 ram was installed but I bought new rams of 4gb + 4 gb of same company but they are DDR3L 1600 ram and my laptop is restarting in few minutes after installing them

Try to update and restore your BIOS. Hopefully your issue will be resolved. If not resolved then use DDR3.
Some laptops doesn't support DDR3L even though its backward compatible. For your case its better to use DDR3 ram.
