There was an editing mistake around 8:38, I always rewatch my videos, Idk what the happened there, whoops. I tried to trim it a bit with the youtube editor but if it still looks jank thats why. Some people say I'm being unfair because this is supposed to be "alternative history" so I went to the official cod website and vanguard is advertised as follows: "The award-winning Call of Duty® series returns with Call of Duty®: Vanguard, in which players will experience influential battles of World War II as they fight for victory across the Eastern and Western Fronts of Europe, the Pacific, and North Africa ." The funny part is that none of these inaccuracies are in any of the in-game cutscenes(videos), almost as if they knew! Lmao Anyways, save your money.
"It is truly the most IMMERSIVE Call of Duty experience, I ever played!" Let's see: => Red dot sight in WW2 (Technically just follow up the game engine of MW2019, not a big deal for multiplayer, but not suitable for a campaign maybe) => Russian speaks English, but German speak German => Flashbang in WW2 => Suddenly changed theme to "The Avengers" in final mission Yeah, truly Immersive -_-
@@stormyprawn it basically not the first time. I know there are many cod series that have an issue language like that before Vanguard appears. But i need to admit that this one is a quite mess and not consistent. Like the VA cannot decided if he/she wants to be an American or a Russian people.
10:58 The game makes you evade the bombardment by running backwards along the firing line. That would actually only keep you in the firing line longer, it's stupidity.
The difference is that in Wolfenstein you are shooting actual nazies, while in this game they're calling the Wermacht "Nazies", while in reality they were just German soldiers forced into war without any choice, either fight or be killed for being a deserter. Many young and innocent German children were killed brutally in WW2 too. I don't think it's fair to demonize the Wermacht and all the German people during that period, so all video games and movies who do that are garbage imo. In Wolfenstein, you kill actual Nazies who look like SS soldiers. These were actually Nazies and the ones voluntarily signing to commit genocidal atrocities. So in Wolfenstein it's understandable. But in this game, that line was just cringe. The German soldiers were the same as the Russian and American soldiers. You had no choice back then. If you're a healthy man of fighting age, you had to fight in WW2. Otherwise you either get jailed for being a traitor (the US) or straight up executed (Russia and Germany).
Yeah lets glorify killing conscripted germans and most of the time pows from other countries that were fighting on the western front. People often forget that history is written by the victor and of course history will have us believe that millions of people on one side of a war were all satan level evil when many didn’t even want to fight a losing war and have their homes bombed out. We just skimp over the fact that the allies we bombed civilian targets in Germany constantly with no other objective other than to beat the populace into submission. Don’t get me wrong they did the same thing but two wrongs don’t make a right in war. Killing millions of civilians and then calling yourselves liberators is a bit of a stretch. Just offering a different point of view for people.

Ah yes, good old grandpa, defending the beaches of Normandy with a stockless STG-44 w/ underbarrel grenade launcher and pistol grip, drum mag, suppressed (duh) and with a optic that won’t exist for another 40 years. He’s got a bad shoulder, on account of the fact that without a stock to stop it the STG ejects the bolt at high speeds out of the back of the gun, but fear not! He just picked up his trusty Luger P08, red dot sight and suppressed, and ran at Mach 10 into a corner before healing.
Then he saw his squad leader and squad-mates with 18 round cut-down barrel M1 Grands slaughter captured allied paratroopers. Learning the errors in his ways, he took his helmet off and killed his own comrades with a suppressed incendiary shotgun, safely meeting with an American-British special operations force armed with MP-40s, still with his German uniform on, and got his assignment to assassinate Hitler and his top generals before they escape to Japan and nuke Russia. A true hero!!!!!!!!
I remember my grandfather's WWII story where he was pinned down under enemy fire... 8 Germans were surrounding him quickly...as he started to cry, a tomahawk came flying out of nowhere, decapitating 3 Germans at once...then the bravest woman he ever saw came flying in with a roundhouse kick, and just started beating down the rest of the German soldiers barehanded...huge bulging biceps and all. She made it look easy, so strong...stunning and brave...and as my grandfather wiped his tears knowing he would be ok, she picked him up with one hand, slung him onto her back, and carried him and 3 others back to camp.
I really hate how fictionalized this franchise has become. WWII in reality was so fucking brutal and unprecedented that you don't need all this alternative history kid bullshit. I swear, most modern or modern-ish CoD games have the obligatory "The bad guy captures us and explains his evil plans" scene, it's like a goddamn trope.
Remember when COD games based on World War Two were actually decently historically accurate in the people or weapons or even game design (i.e.. less running and gunning or making you feel like a part of an army then being said army.) Even though they weren't trying to be a super realistic game? Yeah, me too. (Big Red One, Rising Sun, World at War/Final Fronts are all prime examples.)
Rising sun is from medal of honor, but yeah i get your point. They were a million times better. Medal of honor european assault was so good as well, the ost omg..
My buddy Lui is a Marine Veteran, retired. I asked him how many times he used a slide technique and he said only once and completely on accident. So there's that lol

Remember when WaW reinforced a feeling of tension and helplessness in its Stalingrad mission? Remember when you weren't the one winning the entire war by yourself?
That game didn’t need cutscenes to show you that either, you were always in control during moments like that Cutscenes only came between missions and it was a mix of IRL footage and a map of where you are

To be honest, the latter is a bit more realistic. I know of a Slovenian guy from Trst whose family got killed by the Germans and Italians in 1943. He rose through the ranks to become a captain and in 1945 executed Axis POWs. Never once did he express an ounce of remorse. It's amazing how World War II, with all its political complexity has been reduced to a comic book story with the band of diverse plucky heroes facing off against the one dimensional bad guy who is evil for the sake of evil. Of course it makes sense that the Soviets and the Allies would run some sort of joint OSS op or whatever. Nevermind that the Western Allies and Soviet Union deeply distrusted one another and often times covertly worked against each other.
i feel like the only reason cod keeps picking WW2 for its stories is because it’s got a much more clear-cut “good” and “bad” side, one side was doing genocide and the other was stopping them (im being very reductive by this, i know, but you get what i mean). i would love to see a cod game set in the Vietnam War, or one of the many conflicts in Africa, or perhaps the Chechen Wars. but of course, these conflicts don’t have a faction that you can point at and say “the world would be objectively worse if these guys won”, unlike WW2. WW2 has been done to death, there is nowhere left to take this conflict in videogames. but hey, gotta have that mass appeal
@@beedubree2550 I actually hoped someone made a WW2 game from Germany's POV. Not the ideology ofc, but there's actually several good stories that would be perfect for games/movies (example like 1 Tiger Vs 50 T-34s, 2 Panthers Vs 21 Shermans)
That's a big problem nowdays. Most games have great graphics, it's hard to find a new game with bad graphics nowdays. On another hand a shitty game still will be a shit. Even some vaporware nonfunctional kickstarter scam have good graphics.
it's true that the graphics are great, also the cinematics are amazing. But after that every single thing is trash, this comes nowhere close to the old CoD games. They were and still are gold
That's what I originally said about The Last of Us 2. I started watching the opening scene and I said out loud "Holy shit this game is incredible, it looks better than real life." Then I kept watching and saw the rest of the game. Words can't describe the disappointment I had for such an anticipated game.
I love how the germans casually stroll into Stalingrad after a single bombing while IRL the soviets had turned the city in a freaking fortress with several layouts of defensive perimeters in which the german army had to fight for each meter of ground they gained. And Activision is still talking about historical accuracy >
One small bit of revisionist history that annoys me is that they always refer to the enemies as 'nazis'. Back then most people would just refer to them as the Germans. It's the equivalent of never referring to the Japanese by their country and only calling them 'imperialists'; technically an accurate description but no one would ever have said that. Not on a regular basis anyway.
Im not actually sure this is true, I’ve read the diary of Roza Shanina, the sniper that killed tons of Nazis, and she constantly refers to them as Germans, Nazis, and fascists. While this is only one diary, that she does it constantly leads me to think it was common to refer to the German army by various names.
"I wish you guys had uniforms." Yeah... Having a hodgepodge of random outfits and weapons from basically every major theatre of the war is a fantastic way to have blue-on-blue fire. God this game is such dogshit...
Even having different weapons can cause friendly fire, just like the vietnam war where US soldier prefer use akm rather than m14, it ended with friendly fire caused by different noise created when firing .308 and 7,62×39
The graphics are amazing, it sucks that everything else is garbage. It's truly a shame that most of the fps games I think are good either have no campaign or are old outdated and clunky.
Play S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl. A shooter where the gameplay is still very tight and the graphics (while old) still hold up and are quite pretty
The one thing that will always stick with me about CODWAW is the very young, high voiced, German soldiers panicking and screaming dialogue. That mixed with the close quarter street battles and grim, grey palette of colours made CODWAW anything but a pretty game.
Feels like 95% of production time was sunk on graphic design, which is very fucking good most of the time, but Activision has to realise that it isn't graphics that make FPS games unforgetable.
Design? Soviet soldiers' design is suck. They don't even know what a Soviet "pilotka" should look like. They think it's just a Soviet beanie. The faces of the NPS are terrible. Customization of weapons should only spoil it. The design of the German soldiers is terrible too - *Black* Gilly in the middle of *winter* with a lot of *white* snow
agreed, They need balance. There was a period when I refused to play COD because graphics became really bad like it stuck in early 2000s and now they did graph.s right and story bad.
I like how Cod after Cod, the more they try to force you to like the characters, the more we don't care. Oh and i hate then saying "I HATE NAZIS." "NAZIS THIS, NAZIS THAT, LET'S KILL NAZI" it's so overused for absolutely nothing. Like, you're not going to get points for hating nazis. Just be like any civilian on war, there's a thousand soldiers outside, you HAVE to be scared for your life, not killing one with your knife and going to save your dad alone.
Oh grow up incel. Fun fact: That tank you can see (11:31) is T-34-85, this tank was produced in 1943 but battle of Stalingrad start 8. 23. 1942 so thanks CoD Vanguard for time traveling tanks :)
Duck tape was invented in the late 1800's (cloth added to tape to make it stronger) but the current version was re-made in the 50s which is what it looks like they used to wrap their mags while tactical sprinting. Looks like duck tape can time travel as well as tanks can.
You could make a list of all those historical inaccuracies or stupid illogical flaws: Size of abovementioned tank is quite wrong Soviet soldiers having rolled up sleeves (it's a break of their military code, they would be chastised for that) Also soviet soldiers having a 1943 variant of uniform, ahead of time Some german soldiers in Stalingrad are having STG44 weapon (again ahead of time) or wearing italian paratroopers uniform for some reason Soviet civilian having sniper variant of mosin rifle (how the hell did he got the scope? And why? Simple rifle is more than enough for hunting) Germans completely ignoring the main character who's wearing soviet uniform as if she's just a civilian (12:45) Soviet buildings having surprisingly convenient brick placement for climbing The brother of soviet main character has been found unfit for conscription and that's why he's instructing soviet soldiers how to shoot while being a civilian (wut?) and so on and so forth
Fun Fact: The devs in their free time was going to make a campaign where you play as a Nazi, but the devs weren't comfortable with it and made Zombies as an Easter egg mode in WaW and then fully released it.
"I shoot Nazis they die thats my plan" I think Polina is one of the worst characters ever in a videogame, before you call me sexist, look at Farah in Modern Warfare 2019 that's how you write a female protagonist. Polina is just a knock off Reznov with awful story writing and not being Reznov, if your whole point of being in the game is just to kill "Nazis" than win the war or a battle, then awful story writing. Vanguard itself is just a terrible game, who else thinks COD devs should stop making WW2 games? How do soldiers not even have uniforms, like Wade and Lucas who are they if they don't have a uniform identifying them.
@@BobGob99 uniform and polina as a character lemme explain. Polina as a character was built off the foundation of her wanting to fight and make a change for the war and felt like she never belonged in any other quarters and she kept clamoring to take a fight to the nazis and whenever it the moment came (due to the invasion of stalingrad) polina lost her final parent figure and could only see her memories tarnished for what the nazis have done to her and later lost everything. She became so distrought from these events that she becomes so sadistic that she visualizes slaying nazis and nothing else when the war is over. For the argument of uniforms its a team ranging over nationalities with very different backgrounds.
The most blasphemous thing i heard from a panel about this game was that "CoD doesn't have any memorable characters so we made these people" I guess Cpt. Price and Ghost aren't memorable.
The problem was not the charge, no one was giving covering fire for those advancing. Which is basic squad tactics 101. Seriously that's why there's always an LMG gunner or two for every squad (2-3 for the US cause the BAR was terrible for the SAW role).

Remember the Battle of Berlin in World at War? Yeah, Vanguard just completely skipped it. You had SS officers toasting to the "Fourth Reich" on April 30th, 1945 as if Berlin was completely untouched

You remember how in WaW fighting through Berlin compared to Stalingrad you really felt just how absolutly desprate the Germans were to fight and survive. How by the last two Russian missions the Germans felt much less like proud soildiers of the German war machine and more like Scared, wounded, starving men being absolutely slaughtered by an army that outnumbered them 10/1? How impactful it was clearing the rooms of the Riech Stag and seeing how more and more germans tried to surrender just for their lives? Where the actual hell was that here?! At that point in the war, the nazi army was made up of pre-teens, old men, and women. It was called Volkssturm and was made up of anybody the nazis could find that could hold a gun. I can very much disagree and I liked Wade and Polina as characters as it seemed like they grew from their experiences. Having historically inaccurate attachments isn't really a problem but having it pop up in SINGLEPLAYER is such a confusing choice. They were perfectly capable of putting normal looking guns in past MWs.
There are plenty of pc ww2 games that at least have authenticity like right uniforms and guns depending on the country. So no having a samurai sword as a German soldier fighting the Russians etc. But no game is ever historically accurate. Which is something EA couldn't even do. Authenticity is actually doable unlike historical accuracy. Post Scriptum is an example of authenticity not accuracy where the battles maybe didn't play out like real life but you could only use certain weapons depending on country and even rank. So only a German of higher rank could use a mp40 or you had to be apart of a machinegun team to use the mg42 or 34 same goes for Americans only using American weapons. And yes gender is affected to as regular infantry was only men. so is Hell Let Loose which just introduced the eastern front of ww2 something dice didn't do for some dumb reason.
Yeah, in multiplayer I really don't care because let's face it, there isn't a lot of realism happening there in general. But in the single-player missions, which are presumably trying to replicate some kind of actual experience of WWII combat, it's just wildly anachronistic and dumb.

Long story short, her family evaded the Russians, but one night, while they were sleeping in a barn, there was a battle raging on in the distance, between the Americans, and the Germans. Almost like the princess and the pea, she had a hard time sleeping at night. Turns out, in the morning, she discovered a stray, live mortar shell, that had crashed through a barn window, and got nestled in the hay bale she was sleeping on. After surrendering it to the mayor, it was determined, that had that shell gone off, it would have literally vaporized the entire barn, with her family in it.
The saddest part is that if they took 20 seconds to read a history book, there are plenty of real events that they could make an action scene out of without completely disrespecting history. The weapon customisation whilst completely out of place is pretty much a requirement for the series now. I do wish they kspt it out of the singleplayer and relegated it just to multiplayer. 12:34 I actually got to meet a real WW2 vet who WAS that lucky. He was dug into a foxhole taking cover from a German mortar bombardment and a dud round landed right in front of his face. He said he probably would have shat himself...except he had dysentery so that had already happened anyway. Gotta love the glory of war. Cool guy, sadly he's probably passed away by now as this was about 8 years ago and he was in his 90s. EDIT: Turns out no, decided to look him up and found out he was still very much alive as of November 2021. Hope he's doing well.
"Luckily, I'd already contracted dysentery, so I didn't shit myself when a dud shell landed right in front of me." It's hard to think of a response to something like that. What these guys went through back then, Jeez.
@@TheByQQ Don't need the F quite yet, turns out. I went and looked up his name (Douglas J. Harvey, from the 84th infantry division) a while after I made that post to see if there was an obituary, and instead found an article in a local newspaper mentioning him attending a Veteran's Day event this past November. So he's presumably still kicking and apparently doing pretty well for almost being 100.
@@RJALEXANDER777 Yeah, I didn't really know how to respond to that. He was super matter-of-fact and laid back about it all though, even laughing a bit about the dysentery and how he didn't mind it that much since it got him transferred off the front lines for a bit a couple days later.
I understand a historical video game cant be 100% accurate but what the f*ck was this storyline. World at War obviously wasn't completely accurate but at least in was believable lmao. WaW also showed how terrifying war is and didnt hold back on the grit and blood, even the main menu screen was creepy. This game just made me laugh, makes the whole war seem like a joke.
I may not be a military strategist, But even I know that charging a heavy MG emplacement with no armor support, no artillery support, nor even smoke cover is a very stupid idea....
It wasnt used during WW2 is a main tactic and especially not by british paratroopers. Britain had some hard learned leasons during ww1 and while they werent entirely up to date during ww2, they werent dumb enough to storm a fortified position.
I still find hard to believe that after thousands of years of humanity perfecting tactics and strategy this 7:19 was the best tactic they could think of during wars
yeah especially those civil war ones where there are just men in a straight line shooting each other with no one even flanking the enemy. But then again its just countries playing chess and using the people as chesspieces.
@@sigmamalegrindset132 Well no, that WAS actually one of the more effective ways of fighting in those days, massed volleys of fire not only had a much more significant impact on enemy morale, but also allowed for a greater semblance of discipline, skirmishing units like the German/Austrian Jaegers who were known as light infantry, were more for hounding the enemy than proper combat. This was mainly because spreading out your infantry like you would see in the world wars would lead to them getting torn to shreds by cavalry, not to mention it's not like cover was available on your average napoleonic battlefield, and lying down wasn't really an option due to how you had to reload a musket. That and, you are incorrect on flanking, flanking and outmaneuvering your enemy was paramount, the main difference was that it was rarely the infantry doing the flanking, and if it was it was the aforementioned light infantry, most flanking maneuvers would have been done by cavalry, hussars (fast light cavalry), cuirassiers (heavy cavalry whose armor, the cuirass, could actually stop bullets), or lancers (pretty self explanatory).
You have to keep in mind that sometimes the officers in charge don't have time to come up with a good plan. I don't have any land battles on hand as an example, but at Midway the Japanese admiral in the area at one point had only 15 minutes to make a major decision during the battle (before active planes ran out of fuel), and he wasn't under attack at the time. In a more chaotic situation, it's not unbelievable that an officer could have even less time to come up with a plan.
There was an editing mistake around 8:38, I always rewatch my videos, Idk what the happened there, whoops. I tried to trim it a bit with the youtube editor but if it still looks jank thats why.

Remember people you can’t go 5 minutes in this cod without a character reminding you that you have guns and your fighting nazis
Yeah lets glorify killing conscripted germans and most of the time pows from other countries that were fighting on the western front. We just skimp over the fact that the allies we bombed civilian targets in Germany constantly with no other objective other than to beat the populace into submission.
Right. They were just German military. Nazis where members of the political party like the SS and such
Im not actually sure this is true, I’ve read the diary of Roza Shanina, the sniper that killed tons of Nazis, and she constantly refers to them as Germans, Nazis, and fascists. While this is only one diary, that she does it constantly leads me to think it was common to refer to the German army by various names.

Authenticity is actually doable unlike historical accuracy. Post Scriptum is an example of authenticity not accuracy where the battles maybe didn't play out like real life but you could only use certain weapons depending on country and even rank. So only a German of higher rank could use a mp40 or you had to be apart of a machinegun team to use the mg42 or 34 same goes for Americans only using American weapons. I am beyond angry that people came running on the internet to tell that this COD had a very bad story and when a COD game gives them a good story like infinite warfare and WWII they just forget that and start talking about how bad the multiplayer is.
Good to see CoD players and BF players can be united just this once in the feeling of disappointment since both games suck big ass.
I really didn't luck out, CoD Vanguard was my first time ever playing a CoD game. Which ones are worth it?

I love that COD can show a head completely blown off, but god forbid they add some entry wounds when you run up to the bearded guy who gets shot on the wall

Few people realize how good WWII optics really were. Even after finding them on the ground in the middle of a war zone, their anti dust anti scratch coating kept them perfectly clear, with better light transmission and less distortion than even the best multi-coated modern optics. Its a shame how far we've regressed.

I may not be a military strategist,
But even I know that charging a heavy MG emplacement with no armor support, no artillery support, nor even smoke cover is a very stupid idea....

@@sigmamalegrindset132 does not known linear warfare

You have to keep in mind that sometimes the officers in charge don't have time to come up with a good plan. I don't have any land battles on hand as an example, but at Midway the Japanese admiral in the area at one point had only 15 minutes to make a major decision during the battle (before active planes ran out of fuel), and he wasn't under attack at the time. In a more chaotic situation, it's not unbelievable that an officer could have even less time to come up with a plan.
@@joshuaa7266 I doubt that charging enemy fortifications with nothing but infantry could be the best you could come up in 10 minutes of time.
