- (7 Jul 2016) Britain's Queen Elizabeth, and her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, on Thursday attended an Order of the Thistle church service in Scotland's capital.
The royal couple, draped in ceremonial robes, were joined by Princess Anne and Prince William for the thanksgiving service at St Giles Cathedral.
Hundreds of wellwishers lined Edinburgh's Royal Mile to catch a glimpse of the party as they entered the cathedral to a trumpet fanfare.
The Order of the Thistle recognises men and women who have held public office or who have contributed in a significant way to Scottish life.
It is the highest honour in Scotland and the second highest in the UK, preceded only by the Order of the Garter.

With only 16 members (outside the Family) this may well be the most exclusive Order of Chilvary.
God bless our gracious Queen. Long life to Brits traditions. Best wishes from a Canadian.
Michelle GRUBER and from an Australian - our Queen too 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Think you for that
Beautiful. God save your Queen. Keep your traditions, Brits.
Lovely to see her Majesty and members of the Royal family attending this prestigious service. 🌹♥

Long reign Queen Elizabeth
... Satanisten ... !!!
Well done to the page boy for carrying the train
Trail😀
Can you imagine his parents preparing him do this do t do that I’d be a nervous wreck. Lol
@@jamesmed4 Haha. "Now whatever you do, do NOT drop it in the dirt. We cannot fit it in the washer and we cannot afford the dry cleaning bill either!"
jamesmed4 His parents are friends of The Queen, so it won't be a big issue for them.
Beautiful pageantry..
I did see her passing by and yet I love her till I die late Sir Robert Menzies to her majesty 1954 I think embarrassing moments
"UK Queen attends..."? She does not attend, she PRESIDES at investitures.
Hermosa tradición refleja la identidad nacional
Long live the Queen
tell em large marge sent ya!!!!!!!
Vivat
great ……..
Long live our queen as long there is stability in England there is hope
It’s all about tradition
what is the meaning of the clothes the queen is wearing
Don’t knock it as this is what all the tourists come to London to see . And you are going to need tourist revenue when you embark on Brexit , as the old saying goes . Don’t bite the hand that feeds you !!!!
Although this ceremony was taking place at St Giles’ Cathedral, the High Kirk of EDINBURGH.
The service at Windsor is for The Order of the Garter
The order of the thistle 😀, for someone who is struggling with her mobility Queen Elizabeth didnt look like she was in any discomfort ,i know the page boy was holding the cloak but there had to be some weight on the gown she's wearing, not the wisest decision for someone with her mobility issues to wear , she didnt look like she was in any distress, i was surprised to say the least when i saw her walking with that heavy load on her shoulders ,hope she is ok
It may be a load of old nonsense but long may it continue!
how is the Thistle awarded? a committee sits on it 😆
All those robes look awfully heavy. And hot!
I've seen the queen look hotter
They are 20 yards of heavy silk velvet
It's cold there in England dUHHHH.
TSAR NICOLAS II Oh, careful. That's Scotland not England.
@@lucasdeabrielle7375 It's Scotland, so it's even colder.
An Order created by the last Catholic monarch of the UK, James II of England. He was deposed more so because Parliament feared his absolutist leanings and put it to his Catholicism.
The Pope wants in!!!
if you notice, william is wearing different color sash compared to other royals, like shes prepping him to be king, not charles
James He is wearing the robes of the Order of the Thistle, like everyone else. Nothing is different, not a sash or anything, because that is what members wear, nothing else. Obviously The Queen will be teaching him the art of Kingship for when it's his turn, after his father.
@@mscott3918 he's the art of Kingship for years, they don't carry on learning for years
they learn how from their parents and William and others have said
the Queen lets them find their own way of doing things and heirs to the throne are taught
constitutional history usually by the Monarch and william went to tea with Queen every week at Windsor and had lessons
younger siblings aren't taught it, so King George VI learned on the job and Elizabeth was taught it at Eton
James the sashes represent different royal orders and he's already been "prepped" to be king
I don't get, what they do?
Are you stupid
Try asking a sensible question in proper English and you might get an answer.
Thank you so much for your kind responses. God bless you.🙏
All that stuff has to weigh about 40 pounds... poor queen.
Sword of Faith Something like that. I tried on my grandfather's Order of the Thistle robes when I was young and they were so heavy that I slipped and fell down some steps.
St Francis de Paola said in the future ther will be twelve monarchs ... 1emperor 1 pope over Christendom ....ref.(see prophecy of st Francis de Paola on the great monarch ...thee Chanel is the contrite heart ⚜️🏴⚜️🏴⚜️🇫🇷⚜️💙
They must get utterly tired of these pompous church services and rubbish
What exactly is this? Are they just people in strange clothes?
This is a service for the members of the Order of the Thistle, the highest honour that can be bestowed by the Scots (analogous to the better-known Order of the Garter for England, held at Windsor Castle). This annual service is also a Chapter, or official meeting, of its fellowship. The service commemorates the living and deceased Companions of the Order.
The robes are in the traditional style used by the members since medieval times.
The Queen is the Sovereign, or principal member, of the Order.
that boy is not performing as well as I'd require. The ornament of HRM should NEVER touch the ground!
Keith Johnson Who's HRM?
@@charleswatson1093 the queen lol. HRM means Her Royal Majesty
@@angelandi5140 It may do, but it's not a correct title, The Queen is referred to simply as "Her Majesty (HM)".
I think he was afraid of not leaving enough slack in the train...it would be a disaster if he "stepped on Superman's cape".
@@baraxor Or afraid of tugging her backwards. The robes are beautiful (what a fantastic green color) but the headgear is ludicrous. No doubt the components of the design stand for something, but they look like caricatures of royal headdresses. I was amazed at the spring in Prince Philip's step at age 94. So sad that he is no longer among us to support the Queen. Some of the children and grandchildren are, but, of course, it's not the same as your spouse of more than 70 years.
Their whole life is a celebration and pary after another, and the balls dinners. This life is not for me, even if I was born into this life. I would be a recluse. Lights camera action.
Helen Boula It isn't done for pleasure, any of it. It's all duty. It's well known that the perfect life for The Queen would be living in the country, quietly, with dogs and horses.
I wonder are they from a German descent did the Queen father change is last name to Windsor if so then why do anyone care about them its high time for the real Queen to come out.
The Royal Family were the House of Hanover, until Victoria married and then they were theHouse of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha.King George V changed the name to Windsor during WW 1 because of strong anti-German sentiment. Some members of the Royal family may use the name Mountbatten-Windsor. Mountbatten is another name changed because of anti-German feelings. Battenberg became its English translation, Mountbatten.
More relevant perhaps is the fact that the Queen's mother was Scottish.
Lissi Tb
It was the Queen's grandfather (George V) who asked Parliament to abolish all German titles in the UK not her father (George VI) Nationality is not transferred by your blood - the Queen was born in London in 1926. You're beginning to sound like a racist.
Where were you born and what is your family's origin?
Illiterate comment. The ancestry of the Royal Family is well known. Try writing properly if you want to be taken seriously.
I have to laugh do you send prince Philip a email with your rude and racist remarks ,calling her a degree wife ...
Creepy nonsense!
Such a huge show-offs... modern people don't care about what these ppl do anymore...Time to change...so called Queen...
Oh, the Brits and their silly costumes!
Admiral Lady. butt there ALL soooo old &
These istablishments must dissolve, antiquated & purposely...anti-democratic. In good time ...all things pass
Boy does this Queen enjoy parading herself around. What empty NONSENSE. Stay home and READ, ENLIGHTEN YOUR MINDS..
Don't be so jealous
Actually she doesn't do this for her pleasure, but duty. I think that Her Majesty is a bit more enlightened than you, and certainly still doing her duty at the age of 93. Perhaps you should learn from her instead of self righteously lecturing on a subject that you are clearly ignorant of.
