Lovely job you did there. After 40 years I’ve stopped doing external work. Too physical for me now and the weather drives me mad. I enjoy your channel.
After 40 years up and down ladders without incident I’ve quit while I’m ahead. I did a small one this May and it rained on day 2 and 3. That meant I had to catch up on a Saturday 👎
Yeh, i have given up on outsides now. They are too tiring off ladders and i have had my fill of climbing over conservatories like peter pan. The first week in July it rained everyday Monday-Friday. Who needs the hassle? Good work though, its nice off a scaffold.
Thank you. Yes I was worried about dropping things. So much preparation your hands and arms get tired of holding on to things. But it's a nice house to work on. 👍👍
They weren't cowboys just can't do as good a job of ladders not that high up anyway especially barge boards etc also the previous owners probably didn't want to pay for scaffolding budget and price is a problem most the time
Well in the past painting was better paying and they really took pride in their work. So it's probably been done well for the first half of its life. Then pride goes and it's just about money and standards fall. Thanks
@@jackwardley3626yes working on ladders is all about time as well. If you haven't got the time then it's going to be a quick job. Money and time for a good job.
That's a big job wow. just wish my brother was not a brickie. if he was a painter like me and my dad we would take that on with big hearts and pride. I the best of luck looking forward to watching the progression of your skill and labors :)
Thank you and yes it's great my brother has the same depth of passion for painting and decorating. My dad helped with his passion for quality and respect. He worked for him self for over 50 years. Thanks
That's a great job fellas, well done i saw the finish work on another video but did you guys set up the scaffolding yourself?Or did a company set it up for you. Pro from the 🇺🇸
It'll be gleaming when its finished. Nothing better than the cast guttering and down pipes. Weather look good for a tan as well, bonus... Thanks for the vids.
❤ Excellent work chaps...bit annoying the roof wants doing. Bet the north facing windows etc were okay..it's the sun ruins wood. I've done a lot of wood replacement on Victorian facias etc...quite complex, use old red pine if possible. Well done.. nice touch with the brushes. You can only work on an hourly rate on this sort of job
Sadolin superdec water based new technology. Full of resins hopefully won't crack or peel and be flexible with the wood. In the past they would use lead in paint for flexibility. Thanks 👍
I start a big outside job next week. Removing putty and stripping windows down and doing them up again. I havnt used putty since my apprenticeship. Question need help with. How long does putty take to dry before you paint over it? Because I was watching a video and it said 6-8 days which I didn’t know about.
Yes putty takes a few days to dry, but usually that's the first thing you get done on the job. Carry on painting everything else and do the putty last. You could use wood beads pushed into putty to make a seal and nail. That's a quick way. Thanks
do you not use blow torches anymore mean i know the insurance wont cover them but I dont think it would cover heat guns either I find blow torch is faster. I don't rate superdec I had to do 3 exterior jobs this year alone that were done by someone else in superdec last year by building firms on new timber I wouldn't trust it.
you wanna try bedec all primer does everything knot block stain block wood primer non ferrous and ferrous adhesion primer etc also bradite all the same as all primer but a finish too. you started to shy away from undercoat and gloss these days
Not really it all depends on the job and what the customers want. Have used bedec and found it to be good. Will have to have another look at their paints. 👍
Always taught not to burn off or apply heat at roof level …… rub it down within an inch of its life with a electric sander would be a safer option….. I think you’re there a couple of week too early if there’re talking about fixing roof and replacing wood!!
Never burn off under eaves everything else is about common sense. Remove cobwebs and any loose material that can catch fire. Burn off slowly and watch sections for any signs of ignition. Always have a bucket of water with you and don't burn off near gaps, holes and rotting wood, plastic or glass. Thanks
Thats an expensive job. Scaffold will be £3000k Two painters away from home for at least a month has got to cost £3k a week. So £20000 minimum just for a paint job. Very few people in Glasgow paying that.
Not sure about that the paint is more designed to stick directly to rust and not something in between. They are both oil based and it possibly won't do any harm and act like a lubricant for the paint. 😅 But I'd rather not it's more expensive and possibly makes no difference. Thanks

Hello,
Great job. What filler do you use on the joints in minute 9.50?
Thank you
Wow nice job, a lot of work but looking amazing so far!
Thank you 👍
Got some nice original features there, love the cast gutters and fancy hopper heads, great job lads
Yes it was a pleasure to work on nice painting. 👍👍
Nice work as usual lads, love how you used your overall large pocket as holder for the wood filler to reduce the risk of falling from height s.

Yes very big for a house. But nice to work on. Thanks 👍
i`m curious what paint you use. the same as already on if possible? or mainly stick to one trusty paint?

@@PaintingandDecorating cheers mate. Also would you recommend priming the wood before putting the putty on? With a BIN primer?
You should use a grinder with a sanding disc on much easier

Personally I like work in sections stoping any burning off by midday so the rest of the afternoon can be fire watch and knoting/ primeing
