    The design process of "push it too far and make it stupid, and then scale it back based on what we learned" on this has been interesting to see. I'm sure in many ways it's weird or less fun to ride, but cool to see that it definitely goes fast.

    • @widkin
      @widkin Рік тому +1

      This approach was actually done in alpine skiing when carving skis came. It quickly went to extreme radius on the skis, and then it was slowly dialed back to find the sweet spot.
      It is a good philosophy in many ways, also when it comes to technique, to try too far forward/rearward positions and so on, to really learn the boundaries of whatever sport your doing. Same with speed, you eventually need to try where the limit goes to get better.
      But of course, when it comes to production bikes, where there is so much money invested in a line, and high competition between brands, it makes sense that chances are incremental. They Don dare stick out too much. But that's where prototype bikes for pro racers would have a place.

    • @joelecho
      @joelecho Рік тому +2

      @@widkin you could almost say the same for powder skis, where the first inspiration was ski bindings on water skis. Definitely a step to the extreme.

      The bike I’m currently on has a 445mm reach, 64.6° hta, a 77° sta, and 442mm chainstays. It came out in 2020. Aside from the standover and seat tube length being higher than what I’d prefer I’d call it perfect for an all mountain/enduro rig. I don’t think geo needs to keep going longer and slacker, but frame compliance and tech needs to be focused on instead. Making frames more reliable, reducing cost, etc.

    To be honest, that was actually pretty convincing, the original was so extreme that you could see how it would be entirely track dependant like on some steep straight tracks it would be way better but equal performing or worse on the average track, having a regular bike in the testing was interesting bc it showed that the range makes up for the donut v1s slackness in cornering performance and ended up being just as good overall time wise
