I was at one of the 10 concerts that Neil Diamond did at the Greek Theatre in 1972! It was my first ND concert and I remember sitting there during the Prologue trying to process what was happening! At one point I looked at my wife and jokingly asked" are you sure we're in the right place"? As the music built to a climax and the acoustic guitar kicked in I looked at my wife again and said, " here we go "! The stage doors opened, red smoke spilled out, and a full orchestra and band became visible! Neil Diamond then cooley strolled out, picked up his guitar and proceeded to sing 'Crunchy Granola Suite'! The Prologue is the greatest introduction to the greatest concert of all time, and one that I will never forget...

My father kept me immersed in Neil Diamond's music during my formative years (and beyond). After dad committed suicide, Neil is who I have to bring memories of Dad. Dad when he was at his best... Listening to Neil, soaking in the magic. No yelling, no hitting, no throwing, just joy. Neil Diamond, in some way, may have saved my life. Somehow, I feel like he was a member of our family. Much of our family life revolved around Neil Diamond's music. We had an exceptionally large stereo system for that day in age, and we would listen to Neil at 120 db +. Neil does love his strings! One of the best things about his concerts are that he brings an orchestra to play with him, his music is so rich and makes you feel alive!
Back in 1974, when Australia first introduced no-contest divorce, the most disputed item in divorces was, after the family home, who got the copy of "Hot August Night". Custody of the children was #3
Hot August Night and Bat Out of Hell, the two albums in just about every Australian home in the '70s and on into the '80s. The biggest albums of the decade and still two of the best selling albums of all time. I really can't think of an album from the 80s, 90s, or 2000s that can really compare to those two.

dadadruma ND wrote the lyric as "think you're growing your own WEED", but the early 70's was anti pot. Later years! You can hear Neil on live concerts singing WEED.
It was in Danmark in Horsens and it was 1972 (i think) and i was working as a trainee. On a certain night i couldn't sleep, and than somewhere in the middle of the night i turned on radio Luxenburg, and suddenly they turned on Hot August night The whole album. And somewhere in the twighlight i heard the whole album. It was perfect. I'll never forget that night. It was so peacefull. Later on in my life i bought the album. Still one off my favorite albums. Thanks to Neil Diamond.
I can just imagine that people at about a minute or two into the concert looked at their ticket to make sure this was the correct show...then with each breath of the instruments, they are brought in further into a new place...so that when the softness of the guitar begins Neil has them in the palm of his hand.. The Greek, Red Rock, Hollywood Bowl..the holy trinity of open air concerts.

the best intro to a gig ever.
I too played this album over and over. Singing into my hairbrush and dancing in my mother’s living room!
still after so many years .........one of the best albums .......can't get enough of it
! Absolutamente magnifico ! !
Neil does love his strings! One of the best things about his concerts are that he brings an orchestra to play with him, his music is so rich and makes you feel alive!
such a talented man to compose the music that he has. One word WOW!
Couldn't agree with you more. His arrangements are unsurpassed.
That wah-wah pedal didn't hurt either!
Back in 1974, when Australia first introduced no-contest divorce, the most disputed item in divorces was, after the family home, who got the copy of "Hot August Night". Custody of the children was #3
Haha!
😆😆
I got the album!
Hope you got it ....!!!!🤗
Hot August Night and Bat Out of Hell, the two albums in just about every Australian home in the '70s and on into the '80s. The biggest albums of the decade and still two of the best selling albums of all time. I really can't think of an album from the 80s, 90s, or 2000s that can really compare to those two.
this is the track I looked for so long, Goes down great with my earphones on,
Dam that intro once heard never forgotten, just heard the very start of this on a radio station Magic FM, stopped me in my tracks, hadn't heard it in years!!! Never ever gets old!!!
The seventies the best era for everything . Music , Cars and Security in you job, homes and nations!
Uh,.... Ford Mustang II... ??
With you all the way brother
@@johnsavage5482 They were . You could say what you wanted without being charged with (hate speech ) and all lives mattered .
I grew up in the 70s & I know they were the absolute best times ever! Best people, music, cars, clothes and times.💜💜💕 Such great memories!

One of the very best albums EVER
The best album in the whole world - I promise you
It has always been Neils best, and will remain for me to hear until my deathbed.
Crunchy granola swete
Neil diamond at his very best incomparable talent
Went his concert in Sydney circa 1976/77. It was magnificent!! Absolutely enjoyed it...
This music was my first major skating programme. It still moves me 50 (OMG) years later. I spent a lot of years on the ice, this one is still my fave.
Through the ages many have had the privilege to live on planet Earth and sense all it's splendour's, but only a few were privileged enough to witness and experience Neil Diamond on that hot August night. Am I jealous - damn right I am.
Found this album at a girlfriends parents house. Might have been the reason I kept going back. Been together for 30 years now. I do love Neil!!!!
Been together for 30 years?
The girlfriend or the album?
Nick it and send me album man..
john
Neil has been, will, & always will be my # 1. I have every album of his. Ops, just remembered I gave all the albums to my wonderful granddaughter Julia, but not before I had recorded them onto C/D's.
It was 40 years back that I heard this wonderful song. I found it now purely by chance.... Thanks you tube. Without any doubt : this still gives me goosebumps. Fantastic.....For the Belgian and Dutch people, this was the Radio Veronica tune (1974) in the version of Percy Faith. Those were the days......
I have seen Neil Diamond live three times, and this still gives me chills.
Thank you, Mr. Diamond for introducing your band at every show, and caring about your audience in the cheap seats.
We all love you so much!
If you sing it in school they are liable to send you home never knowing what your growin think your growin your own tea, GOOD LAWD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now that's some poetry!!
no shit man!
dadadruma ND wrote the lyric as "think you're growing your own WEED", but the early 70's was anti pot.
Great story.
OMG... RADIO LUXEMBURG! A whole generation grew up with this unforgettable station....
When I was young we relied on my brother to buy good albums. He brought this one and us kids loved it.
Inolvidable
Still listening to this masterpiece 🇭🇲 lockdown 2021 ❤️
My dad bought this LP when it came out & I grew up listening to it. Some really great stuff here.
Yes I have it also, the best of Neil Diamond.
What an incredible intro !!!!!!
when I was a girl, I would go to my aunt's house and this album was always on. we would dance around while we cleaned. some of my favorite memories are to this music!! ♥
Epic..Epic...What a fantastic intro!! ... Diamond Classic...!!
“Tree people out there, God bless you I’m singing for you too. Are you still there tree people?” 😄
#Treesnotpeople
@DC R. Oh, when you were young you thought they looked like those talking mean apple trees in ‘The Wizard of Oz’ huh? Must have been a bummer when you heard otherwise.
Good lord 🤗
So there were Ents from "Lord of the Rings" with "tree people" sitting in them at these concerts.
Tree people are here 🤗
This prologue is my favorite part of the this album :)
what an incredible album and intro. this got me hooked at 6 yrs old. unreal. what an incredible album
If it wasn't for my late mum recommending Neil Diamond to me as a youngster,I would've never discovered this muscial genius.
Such a shame he can no longer perform.😥😮
Everyone must listen to this in their lifetime 🙂
Epic opening to a concert...got to see it in person!
Old mate Ricky hart loved this song, rip and happy fathers day rick , great man taken way too soon 😢 💔
Best album of all time.
Best intro ever!
Neil Diamond said In an interview that he regretted not having this concert filmed. A mistake he corrected in 1976 in Australia.
HAN 72 is for eternity
