I went to see this and I was being a Broadway snob and was like I can’t believe they are doing a SpongeBob musical-what is happening to Broadway ?so lame. I LOVED IT. They had me from opening number and I bought tickets the next day to see it again
I wouldn’t say I was a “snob” when I heard about it but my expectations were pretty low. I’m so glad I was wrong. I love the musical so much. The sets and costumes and music are just amazing. I think it was a welcomed change to Broadway.
I've seen this show twice now actually. The first time was the North American tour and then a local production in my hometown. It’s quite an accomplishment to turn SpongeBob to stage, and not only make it work, but make it so, so so good!
@@FraserOliver Well, now that the show has been available to license, it should be easy to find a local production in your area. Considering how popular SpongeBob is, there’s probably crazy high number of theatre groups doing it.
One thing I will point out is that a LOT of adults went to see this show who didn't know Spongebob at all and only went to see it because their kids wanted to. Unless you know the show, it's hard to realize that Plankton is, in fact, stupidly tiny compared to everyone else. Specially since this gets referenced a few times in the course of the show. So for people who don't know the show, it's a good way to 'show not tell' the actual size Plankton is supposed to be.
@@FraserOliver I know I don’t have any vids up but I’d love to enter the UA-cam world by doing a collab with you about some new theatre stuff. I’m interested in “6” getting the nominations they did
10:00 I will say the way the use the plush in the UK tour is ALOT better! Definitley better for the comedic value the plush is there for to show the seer size diference
i love how plankton’s actor in the musical has two different pig tail things in his ponytail to represent his antenna
It's incredible!
The main thing they did with Sandy in this one was the large puffy Afro hairstyle which represents her diving helmet.
Ah yeah! I totally see it now!

It's honestly so good! People judge it too quickly!
Same exact thing happened to me before I saw it in Chicago. I didn't see it again the next day, but I saw it 3 more times while it was there.
I'm glad people enjoy it as much as me!

Its definitely a different show but in the best way!
I think for this particular performance they actally got Tom Kenny to be the narrator since he also plays Patchy the pirate later on
Oh amazing! I love how much they put into this show

It's not huge here in the UK unfortunately 🙁
@@FraserOliver Give it some time, it’ll happen. ^^
Fingers crossed

True, it does give context whilst still working, but I do love the way plankton is portrayed in the show throughout!
“Even the sound guys doing it”
Me: huh when the hell did he get up there under review
🤣
This is great!
Looking forward for more of these!
New one out soon!
I love the plankton plush is so cute
He really is!
I don’t know how they didn’t win the Tony for sound that year
It's honestly so impressive!
@@FraserOliver I don’t know if they considered it a live instrument or not but it should’ve won sound design for sure.
It 100% should've won for sound design
