Thank you Ian. I’ve just finished this upgrade and my budget Rega P1 is now sounding like a much more expensive turntable. Now I need to save my pennies for the Schiit mani phono pre-amp to make my system truly sing. Thanks again - wouldn’t have attempted this without your video with very precise instructions.
Just an update on my experience with these settings. I’ve found that a distance of 25mm (rather than 27mm) on the anti-skating magnet worked better for my TT. Perhaps my magnet was slightly stronger than on Ian’s P1 TT.
Thank you Buddy for getting on it and updating all of us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-D!!!!!! Best Regards to you my friend, and thank you for coming by ever so kindly. humbled here, from ian.
I used this guide on a Rega P2 and Nagaoka MP-110. I was having problems with the cart skipping and I was really annoyed. Everyone I asked suggested it was a VTA problem, but it's seen this video so was sure it wasn't. I spent 15 minutes doing these quick changes and aligned the cart with a better protractor than what Rega supply; total night and day difference. Thank you so much for this video. I'd be wasting money on VTA spacers if it wasn't for you spending the time to post this.
Thank you too my friend!!!! 👋😄happy to see you catch up so early!!!! Have a smooth and easy week ahead my friend! See you Brother Tony😃🤜🤛😃!!! Let us enjoy our analogue journey!!!
Ian finally got everything hooked up set anti skate at 27mm like you showed us ! Man i am blown away guys you cant go wrong with this setup its best sounding system i've listened too in a lonnnnnnnnng time!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH IAN!!!!!!!!!!!! i'm using a sherwood rx-5502 receiver with schiit mani preamp -Rega planar 1- glass platter upgrade-Nagaoka mp-110 cartridge and speakers are -2 ELAC 2.0 debut 6.0 - 2 Klipsch 610-f towers and 2 klipsch R-15 m and last a definitive 800 sub
OMG! Thank you so much for this instructive video! I've had my MP-110 for almost a year and didn't make the anti skate adjustment, and so many records were skipping! I thought it was the cartridge, but it was the anti skating adjustment. Not only are there no skips, my MP-110 sounds LOTS better! Thank you!!
Excellent video as always! I’m currently using the MP-110 on my Rega Planar 3. It’s reassuring to know that the rake angle is acceptable. Thanks for all your hard work!
Dear Buddy Dave :-D . yes you have really upgraded :-D from the Rega cart to the Nagaoka MP-110!!!!!! Thank you for coming by and spending time catching up with me again!!! Sorry for being late in my reply to you...as hundreds of messages came in shortly and I couldn't cope... BRother, thank you for waiting for my reply. Warmest Regard to you and your family on this weekend!! ~ ian.
I‘m currently binging through your playlists and have to say, that I genuinely enjoy every single video you put out. Your enthusiasm and friendliness are very contagious, and I keep smiling whilst watching :-) 👍 Looking forward to more content, your cartridge shootouts are the best! Kindest regards from Germany
Guten Tag Freund!!!!!! Thank you for your kind comments and friendship!!!!!!!👋😄👋I am confident you will find the best quality and no nonsense, great equipment to enjoy our beloved vinyl analogue playback EASILY!!!!!!! Stress-free and just superb. Thank you Brother and may you and your family be well and happy, safe and healthy, always🍀🏡🍀💚🌱✌
Your comparison of the carbon vs MP110 was easily noticable just via the built in speakers of my Samsung s9. Currently running an MP300 on a Thorens TD318. Thank you for reaffirming Nagaoka's excellent product line.
Hello Ian thank you so much for the wonderful instructional vids you create, having owned my linn sondek from new for some 35 yrs and in the past my dealer always helped me choose and fit a new cartridge I was faced with doing this myself as my last cartridge was worn out and very old and no dealers near me that I could take it to, so armed with a mirrored protractor and a digital stylus force guage I successfully fitted a nagoaka mp110 and am extremely happy with it, i thank you again James.
Wow....thank you so much!!! For your time writing back to me!!! I am so happy for you my friend!!! We are all cogs in this giant big warm vinyl community. We'll keep this going strong and fun😄😄😄😄😄🎶🎵🎵🎶🎶🎶
Hi Ian. I listened to your advice, so I installed Nagaoka MP-110 and Schiit Mani and now my P1 finally gives me a great pleasure. I even got rid of humming and buzzing noises with connection of ground wire between Mani and iFi AC iPurifier. So everything I hear in my speakers now is low level of analogue noise and very good sound. Couldn't be happier. Thank you very much for your great work :-)
Dear Buddy :-D !!!!!!!!!! Thank you for telling us all these!!!!!!!!! Thank YOU! WOW...wow, WOW!!! ENJOY YOUR SUPER REGA P1- NAGAOKA MP-110 - SCHIIT MANI system!!!!!!! :-D I am glad i have been of help! Warmest Regards!!!
I think you've nailed it with that combination, Ian. That set-up would keep most analogue fans happy for years before they felt that they needed more. Best wishes to you and the family from a cloudy UK.
Brother!!!! Hehheh👋😄!!! From Sri Lanka to the U.K.!!!! All the best for your family too Buddy!!!! We try to catch up when you're passing by singapore in future. Keep me in the loop my friend! 👋😄🎶🎵🎶🎶have fun!!!
Dear Buddy :-D ...thank you for taking time out to write to me!! Yes, the MP-110 is sufficient i believe for ALL of us to enjoy vinyl analogue which is beautiful, dynamic and fluid, and better than digital. ALL of us :-D !!!! More than enough!!! Warmest Regards and may you have a lovely week ahead and more, ~ ian
Best vinyl channel in youtube I'm waiting for my MP110 and today i did the mod in the magnet. In my case remove that magnet was a pain in the ass. Finally I use a soldering pen to give some heat. After 1 hour trying the magnet was free. Now I'm waiting for my MP110 and the test LP. I hope I can finish with the inner groove distortion this time. I'm struggeling with this problem for 2 years now. Starting with an AT LP120 with a Ortofon Red, next to a Rega P2 with the Rega Carbon and now the P2 with the AT-95ex Next week I will mount the Nagaoka
Hi Ian, just wanted to let you know that we miss your regular instructive and informative videos. Understandably, priorities have changed in these unprecedented times and your involvement on the front line is greatly admired. We eagerly look forward to a more stable future and wish you and your family a safe journey to happier times.
Buddy Michael, thank you too for giving me your support and encouragement!!🤗🤗🤗 let us all have a good settled system and hunt ahead for vinyl records, and SAVOUR them at home😄🎶🎵🎶🎶🎶. Warmest Regards my friend, ~ ian.
Dear Buddy :-D ...great to see you again!!! Must be listening Live In Paris over the weekend!!!!! enjoying your Mani and MP-110 too!!! YUP. Excellent engrossing and engaging analogue sound does not mean spending tonnes of money!!! Really NOT necessary!!!!!!! Not AT ALL! Cool Regards to you on a bright day :-D last night I parked at Adelphi and walked with my family over to the newly opened Funan :-D... my millenial sons and their GFs love it! Bought some finger food at B2 and also bought some durians near Bugis home :-D .Hehheh!!
HiViNyws channel Yeah, i am definitely enjoying the Mani+MP combo since you recommended!! No time yet to explore Funan.. probably Da Da Record no longer there..... LOL
Good afternoon Ian. Many many thanks for this very informative video. I do not play a lot of vinyl (time constraints, work, life in general!) but I'd been having issues with my planar 1 I have had for a few years, records skipping, always backwards. Research identified that, sometimes, the pre-set bias on the RB110 can be the isue. Today I followed your instructions and re-set the bias magnet to 29mm (using my vernier calipers). I set to 29mm as I have the original carbon cartridge and thought I'd see how it went at that. After the change I played 3 albums which, before, had alwas skipped backwards. I had been getting to the point of thinking that my return to vinyl was a mistake, the deck too fussy etc. Now there is light and I may even consider the upgrade to the MP110 in the near future. Thank you again for your detailed video and taking the time to do it. Very best wishes from the Highlands of Scotland. Richard.
Dam it.... I should have never watched this dudes video... my next credit card statement will have the Rega P1, Nagaoka MP 110, and the Schiit Mani on it... and I had no intention of getting into vinyl... FOR REAL!!! Great video... your joy/ enthusiasm is definitely contagious... Excellent Job... I can't afford to watch anymore of your vids!!
John, I never had the intention either but, you will not regret it. Once you start to hear and feel the diference in sound from a digital source to an analog source, you will not mind all the hassle involved in vinyl, (clean the record, change the record adjust the stylus, etc), yes, it is a pain in the ass, but worth every minute of it.
Wow. Awesome video. Very technical and compressed information. You did all the experiments first and showing the results in the video without a fuss. I like that approach.
Thank you Buddy🤗🤗😄🙏🙏🙏🌱🌱🌱we march on together!!!! Yes!!😄super vinyl analogue bliss can be with us *AFFORDABLY*!!!!! Enjoy your journey my friend. Stay safe and healthy you and your family too🎶🎶🎶🏡🌿☘
Hello kind sir. Thank you for your wonderful reviews! I purchased a nagaoka mp110 and schiit mani based on your recommendation! My turntable is a bit old, Technics Sl 1500 MK2 but I couldn’t be happier with the sound! I hope you and your loved ones are well during these trying times.
Dear Buddy :-D thank you for coming by too!!!! I am very happy to receive your message and query!...... YES! Have fun with your Nagaoka MP-110 and Schiit Mani!!!!!!! Keep your solid vintage legend stalwart tank of a turntable will you :-D !?!!!! For us and for your future generation!!! :-D Warmest Regards, and may you and your family be Safe, Well and Happy, ~ ian.
Excellent summary video Ian and I hope this one really gets increased view counts as it tells the story on how good this package is. I loved the bonus footage at the end.
Dearest Brother Paul, Thank you very much for coming by as well. My wife asked about you too...always. I've told her that you have completed all of the good work with all the great and pertinent pressing plants and mastering engineers 💪💪💪😄✌✌✌✌✌✌✌ and "hence Master Paul is taking a much deserved rest"👍👍👍👍👍👍she understands. Brother, I wish for you and your wifey and daughter good health and smoothsailing endeavours in Texas and beyond. 🤗thank you for coming by to see me Buddy.
Thanks Ian for your great enthusiasm and commitment. I am listening to wonderful jazz thru rega p1, naga mp110 and schitt mani. It sounds lovely to me. I would never have known were it not for your videos. Thankyou. Keep safe and come back soon.
I just followed your advice. Well mostly my P1 has the goldring E3 cartridge. But everything else is as you recommend. Wish me luck on my vinyl journey. Thanks so much for all of the time and love that you put into this Chanel. It’s my go to place for hifi advice.
Thank you Buddy Jeff! 👌😁🙏hehheh!!! P1 as your solid foundation, good tonearm, good smooth bearings, minimal freeplay, smooth spindle-hub fitment!!! Enjoy your vinyl analogue journey with many lovely vinyl records my friend😄👍🎶💪🎶🎶🎶🎶
hi Jeff!! what can you say 2 months after installing goldring E3? I decided to put the same pickup head on my Planar 1. tell me, friend, did you set the value of the magnet to 27 mm?
Hello good morning here near Paris. We do not forget about you, and your great work. Just tell her that we look forward to her return. Take good care of yourself and thank you for your work, you all over the world are doing the miracle of saving us. Thanks from my heart. VIVA EL VINYLO...
After seeing your P1 shootout video, my next question was whether it would accept the MP-110-and here you answered it! Thanks Ian! (And great to see a bit of Singapore-I was there for the first time six months prior to this video post!)
Hello there longtime friend and audio extraordinaire Ian. Absolutely wonderful tutorial and very easy to follow. As you know I have been collecting records since the sixties when I was a kid. But I was never comfortable in doing any upgrades or quick fixes to my audio equipment. Thank you so much again for teaching me a few more tips and tricks. I hope that everything has been going well. The traffic in downtown Boston was insane all day. It was definitely a Manic Monday. So it was nice to be able to relax this evening and spend some time with you. Have a wonderful week Brother Ian. Catch up with you soon~ Rob/Boston
Dearest Big Brother Rob :-D, Thank you once again for coming by to see me, to help me despite your busy Monday traffic...i am very touched!! I am really happy and grateful to you as I keep seeing your name pop up on many fellow VC friends' video efforts :-D !!! Amazing that you can still do this for a little friend in faraway Singapore :-D.... i just had the chance to bid farewell to a friend from Florida, who flew here just a week ago. You should be able to see excerpts of my meet-up with him in my next video too :-D !!! Best Regards dear brother! ~ ian.
Thank you very much for your video, it's proved invaluable! I've adjusted the weight, and been brave enough to take apart the RP1 and adjust according to your specs. I don't know how you did everything with just two hands though, my girlfriends hands (and tweezers) were invaluable! Keep up the excellent videos!
I’m Martin, thought I’d say hi. Just starting on a hifi journey. I happened across and watched this video, completely by chance. Your passion and genuine goodness and honestly is awesome and very refreshing. The difference on the p1 with the carbon to the p1 with the mp110 is so stark I didn’t believe it was posible. I literally got family to listen to see if my ears were playing tricks. I’d never been connected to music like that before (and I’m in my 40’s) lol From the uninitiated who didn’t care to me now desperate to have some decent kit. I’m smiling as I write as I know how my head works and that I’ve opened a can of worms. First step on a journey..... So yeah, hi
Dear Buddy, thank you for coming to see me, and i apologize for my alte reply... sorry Buddy! I read with delight your "opening up a can of worms" and wow i congratulate you!!! I am in my 40's too (45 this year) Hehheh! Time to indulge in some great analogue sounds and music!!! They are truly engrossing and therapeutic, detailed and beautiful!!! Just amazing. No digital glare from now on! Do help yourself with the information i have humbly provided here...and yes, the P1 with a Nagaoka MP-110 PLUS the Schiit Mani are a MUST for any first-time into the world of beautiful vinyl analogue!! THEY will keep you IN, and indulge you forever as stalwarts in your analogue music appreciation! ~ ian.
I love your videos my friend, I do not even have a Rega and I still watch the whole video as I always learn something....Singapore seems to be a beautiful place, I wish I can visit someday....and Moko is looking good 🐶. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Dearest Jorge, thank you so much for coming by and chatting up with me! Heeheeheee.....sorry i have to always say this: enjoy your TWO manis.... just like me :-D . ... Moko is next to me now. We say our warmest regards to you and your family!!!
Impressed again from one of your videos, you're a master in terms of clarity of explanation. To watch your videos is a continuous source of information for me about the magic world of vinyl and setting turntable. I can only say you "Thanks" for that. A big ciao from Italy!
Ian, I really appreciate your dedication to set up technicalities and demonstrating them to any level of audiophile / HiFi enthusiast. I’ve been helping so many friends over the years with proper turntable and tonearm set up... sometimes I don’t have the time, and so in those times, now I just recommend the master - YOU! lol. - TONE
Dearest Buddy Tone :-D...hehheh...everything, every prized and precious record nicely put up in your new home!!! Very happy for you! It is great that you do the right thing which is to lend in the proper real-time hand on your friends' turntable set-ups!!! So very dedicated and kind of you to do so!!! Brother, looking forward to your next VC video for us. You have sooooo many great stuff to show and to guide us on! YUMMY.
Such a great video, I wish I’d viewed a few years ago it would’ve saved me a lot of time! I tried changing to the MP10 but the stylus kept jumping around so eventually gave up. These days I’ve got installed the Rega Bias 2, noticeably better than the carbon, but as you say not quite up to the level of the MP10. If I may, I’d suggest a way of altering the tracking force magnet without the fuss of removing the whole tone arm unit. equip yourself with a long pair of tweezers, secure the tone arm to the centre of the platter and carefully locate and pull free the magnet cylinder, apply blue tack as instructed above. Also an alternative to the blue tack and mm by mm adjustment you made to the magnet cylinder is to add a small disc magnet on top of the existing magnet cylinder head, check the tracking, if it’s still needs adjustment add another one! Overall the sound improvements you’ve suggested are tangible. Equally so changing to a better machined Tangospinner sub platter. All the best Ian and many thanks for all your tips.
Dear Buddy James, thank you for coming by!!! May i ask? :-D : - where would you add the small disc magnet and its placement with regards to the existing magnet cylinder :-D ? Thank you Buddy :-D I am eager to know. Thank you for your time catching up with me my friend, and may you have a great vinyl'ing time ahead!!! I AM SURE becasue you are equipped with the Rega turntable!!! and i guess upgraded Tangospinner subplatter!
Oh my goodness I don't know how to thank you enough for this guide! I changed the cartridge of my Rega Planar 1 from the stock Carbon to a Bias 2 and while there is a very stark improvement in sound, the anti-skate was way too strong (or too weak? not sure) for the recommended tracking force of the cartridge. But thanks to this video, I was able to adjust the anti-skating of the RB101 tonearm, something that I think shouldn't have been possible! I'd love to drop by your store next time I'm in Singapore for comic con! 😁
WOW I didn't know THAT!!!! P1 Flex Edition!!!!!! I MUST TAKE THIS INFORMATION DOWN!!! Brother, can i ask more? --> is this a P1 retrofitted with a RB330 tonearm? :-D I am so curious!!! Warmest Regards, and Guten Tag :-D ~ ian.
HiViNyws channel Hi! Thanx for your response! www.auditorium.de/vinyl/komponenten/plattenspieler/rega-planar-1-weiss-flex-edition-plattenspieler Here is a shop in Germany that sells it for 449€, the tonearm 110 is modified especially for the German market because customers asked for it! They might have seen your video 😉! Btw I ordered the Schiit Mani for my Rega P3 due to your recommendation and I am verrrrry happy with it although Schiit was not available in Germany! I got it from Holland! Thanx again!!!
Hi Ian! Man you are the best! So thankful for you. Love your energy and passion. I really appreciate all that you do to help educate us. Hoping someday to meet you!
Thank you Buddy Den for coming by!!! Yes we can meet up! :-D thank you for your encouragement!!!! Please do chat up again, anytime! Sorry to be late in my reply, because a hundred messages came in and i needed time to properly reply friends like you! May you have a lovely weekend blessed with much vinyl analogue music!!! ~ ian
Very cool video for you to do for those who need help with their P1 upgrade. As much as I love the audio portion of the video I think I like seeing your beautiful city even more. :) incredible views, just gorgeous. I am enjoying my MP200 along with my cable upgrades. Hope you and your family are well. Take care my friend!
Brother Luis!!!! :-D Great to see your most updated photo again!!! One taken at your recent birthday event!!!!!!!!!! Transparent cables for your birthday, as gifts? :-D !!!! Heheh!!!! MP-200 and transparent sounding Transparent cables..... BLISSSSS! Warmest Regards, ~ ian.
Hi Ian, Although I do not own a Rega P1, I found your video to be instructive and interesting. I’m a big fan of removable headshells and easily adjustable anti-skate, since I like rotate cartridges, with the Nagaoka MP-110 as my favorite. Also, thank you for the tour, you are very fortunate to live in a beautiful city with so many hifi and record stores. My best to you and your family.
Brother Steven👋😄!!!!! Yay! I get to hear from you!!! Thank you for seeing me! Hehheh...yes...swapping carts with ease and with adjustable precision anti-skate plus high quality tonearm height adjustment will also lead us to... our Technics😁😁😁 🌈may you have a wonderful time in CA Buddy!!!! Heeehee enjoy your nag!!!!!!as always!
Excellent information very clearly presented. Love the store footage and outdoor scenery, it’s a very beautiful city. As always you do very high quality work. Thanks Ian.
Dear Buddy Don :-D thanks for coming by again to see me!...and thank you once again for alerting me to the good mentions by fellow friends of my humble efforts on Steve Guttenberg's video a few months ago. I appreciate your kindness... thank you. Warmest Regards and have a good smoothsailing week ahead my friend!, ~ ian
Dearest Andrew :-D FROM THE PACIFICA!!! :-D Thank you so much for your love and kind words to my family and i...thank you so much Brother..... I wish for you and your family a lovely Sunday too and more! Have some vinyl hours too!:-D . hi five!!! ~ ian
I just followed this with my P1 and at ATVM95ML. Prior to adjusting the anti skate it would constantly get stuck on really good records. The VTF on the ML is lighter than the standard rega at 1.8-2.2g. I used a distance of 30mm for the magnet it works a charm. No more sticking and my records sound much quieter as they aren't try to fight the groove anymore. My next turntable will absolutely not be a Rega. It will be a technics that I can adjust fully and interchange carts easily. Rega's look pretty but every planet has to align to play music well
Brilliant Video absolutely worked on my Rega Record store day Planar which I understand is a hybrid P1/2 - took me a while to realize that the records that I had which repeated were doing so because of the planar which was like it from new only once I realised 'problem' records played perfectly on my other record player (a Stanton T92 USB) that I searched youtube and found your video - today I bought the blu tack and after less than 30 Minutes I had the Turntable 'upgraded' and working well on those same 'problem' records - so a big thank you - I would buy you a beer if it was possible :)
Brother :-D WOWWW YOU ARE ON IT!!!!!! JUST AFTER 30MINUTES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I applaud you for getting into this simple act and just utilizing a simple blutack to fix the anti-skating!!! Beautiful now it plays isn't it!!! :-D !!!! Warmest Regards Buddy!!! ~ ian.
Where was this video when I needed it ? This is very much what I needed some time ago, when I decided to upgrade from the Carbon. I found various sources, but none put it all in one place e like this. Great job ! This is the same combo I have. Riga could simply have made a slider mechanism to allow anti-skating adjustment with the magnet. Once you figure it out, then of course you end up doing a MacGyver job. I have a rather thick mat on my platter, so I went the cheap route and used simple washers to raise the arm. In between the washers, I used double-sided tape to reduce the risk of any added vibration. I've rewired my tonearm with a copy of Cardas, which also included a proper ground wire. So now my wires go straight from head shell to my Mofi phono-preamp. Overall, nice sounding set-up, but since stock Carbon days, I have a low hum through the speakers. Not audible at normal volumes or from my seating position, but still something I'd love to be gone. My P1 will eventually end up in my 2nd system, connected to a mid-60's Sansui integrated, once I decide on what will live in the main system.
Dear Buddy :-D great to see you after a year!!! THANK YOU FOR COMING BACK to see me an old friend!!! WOW you have improved your system a lot!!! Rewired your tonearm after your "Doktor Mastan Uncle" fixed the triangular copper ends on your Rega leads with circular ones! Brother, glad to hear you have been enjoying your P1 and maybe your Thorens TD160 can come later :-D !!! Warmest Regards my friend!! Love to hear your journey and what you have done in detail!!!! Thank you always! ~ ian
Hi Ian, as my P1 may become my Frankenstein table in which to continue to try different mods, I was thinking to add Dynamat to the underside of the table. When I had my car speakers done, I asked for a full mat, and they gave it to me. Unfortunately my P1 sits close to, but behind my right speaker, and was thinking extra damping wouldn't hurt. As for next TT, I am intrigued by the upcoming table from Schitt. My upgrades since we were last in touch has been the Mofi phono-preamp (the cheaper one) and my speakers are now Focal Kanta 2's.
@@larrypupkin dear Buddy💪😄👍doing well, doing very well you are!!! Wow new Kanta speakers! Dynamat, I'm looking at it now. Perhaps just stick it as a supporting layer on the rack on which the 3 feet of the P1 rests...as Roy Gandy's design principle would be: a lightweight plinth, so that it doesn't impact upon the bigger mass platter. (He explained it well in the book "The Measurment Machine"). And if there is anything to take away resonances, it would be done BEFORE the plinth, that is: the feet, the isolation platform/rack😄✌. I thus suggest that your Dynamat not be stuck directly on the underside of the plinth, but just be a mat on which the 3 feet of the P1 turntable rests on. Cheers cheers ✌😄✌
Brother from The Netherlands!!! :-D thank you for catching up with me again!!! Hope you have been enjoying your Mani too!!!!! Hehheh!!!!!!! ENJOY YOUR JOURNEY, take it slowly and sip and enjoy at every moment!!! Catch up again anytime my friend! ~ ian.
@@HiViNywschannel thank you for the response! I don't have the mani atm. I got a chance to buy my dream speakers. MB Quart 2000. They are so good paired with the right amp and setup. I love them. The mani is on my short list though! One thing I have discovered is that the little glass fuses in the equipment when changed to ceramic... make all the difference.. Vp concepts made a video about it and I decided to try it and the biggest change is that the music became deeper and meatier and a lot more planted, hard to describe haha. Apparently some high end manufactures accutly use ceramic fuses out of the factory! It is such a little and cheap change that does a lot! If you ever feel the urge to try something. Replace the fuses! Just check the power connection at the back of the item and you should see a little black tab where it sits. Really easy I would not have thought it would work but that is the best thing of this journey. Try to get the most and the best out of the equipment you own to get the best sound you can! Best regards! :) Ronald
HOW TO REMOVE THE MAGNET I guess, Ian was just lucky. I tried removing it same way he did, but it wouldn't come out and after some googling I learned, that the magnet is actually glued in and not supposed to come out that easily. So what I needed to do was: a) get some pliers which allow a grip as firm as possible on the magnet, so the inside better be rippled and the tips very small b) try turning the magnet in a wiggling motion and pull at the same time. I slipped off a couple of times. Eventually the magnet came loose, but even without the glue holding it in place, it wouldn't slide out as easily as in the video. I still had to grab it with the pliers to get it fully out. Hope this helps some who might feel discouraged after watching the video and finding out, that it isn't as smooth sailing as it looks.
Hi Brother👋😄good to see you again! I am not aware of this difficulty. In fact, mine was the reverse: I tugged it one time, and I thought it hadn't come yet because I felt almost no resistance!!!...so I just lightly withdrew the tweezers and...... -> the antiskating magnet came off and was stuck onto my tweezers without me knowing😅😄!!! I think I am lucky to have started off with a good pair of tweezers!!! See you again Brother!! 👋😄🎶🎵🎶🎶🎶
@@Cage_is_in_a_cage I don't have a test record yet so I went with 27mm. I had one record where the needle was stuck in one groove about 2/3 the way and after setting the magnet to 27mm I could play the record without any issues. So definitely an improvement. I'm curious though what the test record will tell me.
Dear Simon, thank you for answering Cage Tanaka's query! Yes, 27mm away from the tip of the edge tunnel :-D is nice!!! Hope Brother Cage finds his way easily too.
Dear Ian Thanks to your dedication and hard work, you have shown that you do not have to spend ridiculous sums of money to enjoy music. Simply put, new budget concious audiophiles should start off with a good turntable and cartridge combination, one that will preserve and protect your precious vinyls. The rest of the system, the amplifier, speakers and other accessories, can be inexpensive purchases at first but later on, when funds becomes available, upgraded to bigger and better equipment. In the meantime, I await your next video with eager anticipation. Bob L
Dear Brother Bob, thank you so much for your kindness and help, coming by and write to me. Yes...audiophiles can enjoy so much great sound at affordable prices :-D !!!! and "the rest of the system, the amplifier, speakers and other accessories, can be inexpensive at first" and later on, upgraded. Having a great vinyl front end keeps new comers in the hobby :-D !!! Warmest Regards, ~ ian.
Jaw dropping...just jaw dropping, what a vibrant sound the Nagaoka 110 creates! Gues Ill upgrade my Ortofon Red on my SL-1900 to a Nagaoka 110 this Christmas :-)
You are right Buddy :-D the MP-110 is A SUPERB, THE SUPERB one cartridge everybody MUST have :-D!!! Heehee...Christmas.... MP-110 on your YUMMY SL-1900...................... Congratulations on your Technics SL-1900 Brother Eddie!!!!! Great to see you catch up! Warmest Regards my friend!!! ~ ian.
Dearest Buddy Ted!!! Thank you yet again for your kindness spending time to see me!!!..hope you and family are doing well in the Pearl of the Orient!!!!!! Warmest Regards :-D ~ ian.
Hey old friend, I hope you and your family are doing well in these difficult times. I understand that there are many obstacles. Love ya buddy..take care.
Buddy Eric. So nice to see you again!!! Thank you for coming to see me and encouraging me on. I just had an uneasy day at work yesterday. Love ya too my brother! Your insightful messages all along these years, I remember them. Your friendship. Thank you Brother. I wish for you and your family, to be always well and happy, safe and healthy too🍀🏡🍀🤗🤗🤗
Hi Ian, excellent new video comparison. Thank you for you great videos. I really enjoy watching. Got the MP110 for my 1210MK2 because of your recommendation and i like it very much. Looking forward to also get a Schiit Mani when available again in europe.
Dear Buddy Christoph!!!!! WOW WOW WOOOOWWWW!!! :-D I AM DELIGHTED FOR YOU!!!!!!! THAT SL1210Mk2. I believe its build quality is even better than the Mk7 and the SL1500C. I really have a huge hunch about it. Very, very sure. We shall look at the actual samples of the 1500c and Mk7 when they come up. You and I should be tipping our hats and nodding our heads at our Mk2/3/4/5 :-D!!!!
Dear Friend, take my sincerest appreciation! I enjoyed every minute of Your phono cartridge reviews. In February I travelled not far from You, so I am very sorry not knowing You earlier. I wish You all the best! A follower from Hungary.
That was a great tutorial for our Brothers & Sisters who have a P1 and want to upgrade. The big question is why would Rega make the anti-skate such a pain to adjust???? I believe Rega needs to go back and redesign the tonearm. Make it more user friendly. As always, love seeing video of your country.
Brother enjoy your Mani, MP110 and MP150!!! Hehheh...Rega has probably deemed it to be a Plug-N-Play turntable, for first time vinyl adopters, or vinyl adopters who won't want to spend time dabbling in changing cartridges and setting up turntables, and hence assigned the Rega Carbon (AT3600L) cart to it and foregone with the adjustability coz the users won't need it. Secondarily to keep cost down further more. Hahaha...they can't please everybody. Continue your super fun with your super vinyl rig! Best Regards my friend! ~ ian
@@HiViNywschannel No problem with the P1 being setup that way, but the P2 should be adjustable. I did read something about getting around the problem in a forum but cheers for doing a video on it.
Dearest Eric :-D thank you for coming by and chatting me up again!... there have been hundreds of messages... i hope you pardon me for not replying immediately (i wish so! for a good ol' friend in you!!!). Hehheh!!! hope you enjoy your Peanut Butter Jelly cables soon :-D!!!! We will enjoy our common Nags! Listening to Jobim - Wonderful World of , on my P1-MP110-Mani NOW here at 8am in Singapore :-D Warmest Regards to you and your family, ~ ian
Dear Buddy, thank you so much for catching up with me after 2 years!!! :-D thank YOU!!! I have checked back, and your first two messages were 2 years ago, on my Goldring Elektra cartridge video review :-D! Thank you so much my friend!!! May you have a restful and lovely weekend :-D ~ ian
Hi Ian , greatings from Germany. Got the upgrade done, according your great description. I strongly agree with you, it‘s a big step forward compared to the Rega Carbon. Thank you very much!
Ian - so glad I discovered your channel. I love your extremely thorough reviews and unbiased opinion. My only regret is not discovering your channel sooner. I have no doubt, the out-of-the-box package you are recommending provides the best bang for the buck P1 + MP-110 + Schiit Mani. For people like me, who have already invested in other gear, perhaps for your next series of videos you could investigate how we can upgrade or if its possible to salvage our investments. My current setup is a Project Debut Carbon DC with the acrylic platter and Ortofon Blue cartridge and a Parks Audio Budgie phono stage. Although I had to spend much more money upgrading my system, I'd be curious to see how it stacks up against $700 package. As for phono stages, the Budgie is now out of production, but I see it recommended quite a bit in the forums. Would love to see how the Schiit mani compares to a Budgie stock, Budgie with Gold Lion 6922 tubes and also see if you can revisit the PHO 701 with Gold Lion 6922 tubes. I had heard it really opens up nicely with different tubes. My next TT is going to be a Technics SL-1200GR or G. Can't wait to fall in love with my vinyl again.
Ian does an incredible job at describing things in an easy to understand way. What he wants to come across is easily identifiable and he does such a great job in A/B comparisons. My favorite reviewer. Wish he lived in Australia.
Dear Buddy Garf, i hope you enjoy the journey, never mind the components...as my old audio gurus always advise.... don't rush, take things slowly and enjoy the breeze :-D thank you for falling in love with your vinyl records again...oh my....especially with your big budget GR or G!!!! :-D You may try, really, along the way, a P1+MP110+Mani :-D...lovely. Thank you for coming by and writing to me, to us. Brother Blake (essendon72) is helping out too with many friends usually. Kudos to him :-D
REMINDS ME of the SHURE M55E in the seventies......it did everything well , what it lost to the more expensive cartridges it made up by fantastic dynamics and good tonal balance........Very expensive cartridges excel to oftenon some parameters but lose on a broken harmony of qualities ....and lack of involvement and or dynamics. You can't loose with an MP11O..............for the money you get real good music just like the Shure did decades ago. I cared also for the V13 III and it excelled on higher quality systems. One of the cartridges i loved very very much was the Fidelity Research MC 201.........and the EMT MC. Ella Fitzgerald was standing in my room........in flesh an alive.Wonderful an pure magic . The Goldring 1042G is also a best buy but at a higher price tag...so is the MP 200. Very high priced MC can do wonders but can also deceive you ........listen before you buy these expensive items. I use the COTTER MKII L , still a fantastic trafo , way beter than most other and better ( musical satisfaction and spaciousness )than solid state MC pre-amps. Like your reviews you do share with vinyl lovers and agree with your experiences. Have pleasure and waiting for another quality review. PS: The SRA is something really important when the needle shape is not a spherical. Don't adjust for the VTA bur do it for the SRA , it won't deceive you because it will make the difference of good music replay versus a magical listening experience.
I remember the Cotter transformer, I had one back when I had a Supex 900. Never had the opportunity to hear any of the Fidelity Research moving coils. The Koetsu Rosewood Signature is the best sounding cartridge I've ever heard.
My friend from Singapore! I got amazing news! I got my hands on a nagaoka mp 110 and soon, yes, a schiit mani! At the moment they are all sold out in Europe hahaa. I wonder why that is the case... I will be getting one as soon they are back on stock. Recently I started picking up some more records and it has been a lot of fun. The joy you get from those little black discs is so dear to me. Hope you have been doing well! Looking forward to the next video!
Dearest Buddy!!! HEY!!!! WOW YOU PURCHASED YOURS!!! AND BOTH!! BOTH STERLING PIECES OF TOP-FI GEAR!!!! MP110 PLUS SCHIIT MANI!!! You are on a roll my friend!!!... "recently picking up some more records?" THAT is the icing on the cake!!!!!!! Oh my goodness...you are making my Sunday evening very joyful with your energetic message!!! Brother, updates, anytime!! Thank you for coming by and talking to me again!! Warmest Regards, ~ ian.
What a crazy way to adjust the magnet! So complicated!! Ian, If you go back to that record store where you show the big wall of records, i can fully recommend that Janos Starker box of the 6 Bach solo cello suites on the very top shelf (next to the Coltrane box.). It’s a Speakers Corner reissue of the old Mercury Records box - it sounds amazing! Original copies are very expensive and this reissue is very well done. Also, have you heard the new Blue Note Tone Poet series? It’s like the Music Matters series (masters cut by Kevin Gray, gatefold glossy covers, good vinyl pressing.) Take care buddy!!
OMG!!!! TOne Poet series!?!!! I didn't know!!!!!!!! :-D I am hunting them down NOW!!! Listening to the p1-mp110-mani here at 8am in Singapore at home now.... Moko at my thigh as i sit on a low floor cushion-chair (Muji Japanese ones) :-D Gosh Kevin Gray, Masters, Gatefold. OKAY!!!!!!! Here i come!! I check that Janos Starker box of the six Bach solo cello suites as you say... yes on the very top shelf!! You are sharp :-D Warmest Regards to you and your family on this peaceful weekend! Have fun Buddy!! THank you for the tip-offs!! ~ Ian
Superlative video Ian! You have the shown a sure way for someone new to vinyl to get it right for such a reasonable cost. And for those reading this the $700 for this setup is worth every penny and much more for the vinyl bliss you will enjoy. Go find those good condition used records and get new vinyl of your favorite artists and listen with confidence and be blessed. Ian this video has helped me discover that I likely have an anti skating issue with my turn table. I have a new issue Deutsche Grammophon record that has this distortion and I now know that it is likely not handling the very aggressive piano transients. Going to work on my anti skating and see if it goes away.
Dearest Blake :-D thank you for catching up!!!!! Sorry for my late reply. UA-cam doesn't notify me of all comments and i only managed to see this now. I apologize. Dear Buddy, i wish you and Grace and Zoey a great fun time together this weekend! ANd hehheh! Any auditions with the Spatial X3 and X5....hmmm yummy! Let me know! No box colourations... open baffle :-D . You are having it good!!! Send my regards to your dear Dad as well my friend! and oh yes, Sutherland? Manley? ~ ian
@@HiViNywschannel Good to hear from you Ian. I am holding off on my large phonostage upgrade for now. For now I just bough the Swagman Labs power supply for my Mani and it has given a nice improvement with a lower noise floor, more stable imaging and convincing soundstage, better bass quality and quantity. Still plan to upgrade phono pre though and move Mani to another system. Musical Surroundings is also in the hunt. The reason why I am not upgrading phonostage yet is because I am upgrading my Spatial M3TM to the new Spatial M3 Sapphire. The M3 Sapphire, also open baffle, has a large sapphire dome that covers 576hz to 40khz! I kid you not. Also the Sapphire dome is direct wired with nothing in the signal path. No crossover, coils, capacitors, or resistors. Supposed to have significant improvement in soundstage and transparency compared to my current Spatials. This Sapphire dome driver is Spatial branded. The 15" woofers of M3 Sapphires have also been upgraded now with more impact and faster more detailed response. The only thing in signal path with the woofers is one Danish Janzten inductor coil for each woofer. So with no crossover these speaker can be easily biamped. While I currently use solid state the M3 Sapphires are still tube friendly with 92db efficiency and a nominal impedance of 8ohms with a min impedance of 7 ohms. I have a 60 day trial with these so we will see if I keep my current Spatial M3TM or trade them in on the M3 Sapphire after home audition. Really looking forward to this. And as you probably guessed my Dad will travel to Omaha to audition as well. Really did not plan on getting new speakers but with how innovative the new model is and Spatial offering trade ins to Spatial customers I believe is it likely the bust upgrade I can do with current funds. Take care Ian. Just saw you posed a new video. About to brew some coffee and watch it!
Brother I will take time to digest all THESE in :-D!!!!!!!!!! WOAAAHHHHH!!!! Spatial M3 SAPPHIRES!!!! I am faintful......with envy............. special trade-ins too!??!!!! Brew me some coffee Brother. :-D
Ian, I've been watching your vides and coverage for months and I enjoy your work and channel so much! As of this year I've been using a U-Turn Orbit (standard, hoping to upgrade the platter to the acrylic soon) and have upgraded to the Nagaoka MP110 as well as the Mani and I must say, I feel like I'm living the Hi-Fi dream! I know there's always room to grow and have hopes to one day but it's so nice to have a setup that is already so pleasing to my ears. I'd love to see some videos on speakers that pair well with the MP110 and Mani and I'll be in the market to upgrade speakers soon. I seem to always struggle with finding something that has lots of bang for it's buck! Thank you for all the info, it's helped me so much!
Dear Buddy Cole :-D.!!!!! WOWWW!!! Thank you for writing to me!!!!! Really humbled to have received your kind encouragement!!! Thank YOU!!! I feel so touched and excited to hear you are living the Hi-Fi dream!!! Really touched to hear a fellow Brudder gets in, stay in and be jubilated every day :-D!!!!!!!! Thank you!!!for your time!! Warmest Regards!
Fantastically informative video as always from the vinyl master Ian. As you know I recently swapped the pre fitted elys cart on my P3 with the blue mat😉 for the nagaoka mp110 without spacers (Regas recommendation) and it is a huge improvement. Upwards and onwards next stop a schitt mani.
Dear Buddy Stephen!!!! Thank you for coming to see me!!!! Hehheh your P3 decked with blue mat...with sumptuous optiwhite glass luminous beneath it!!!I am VERY HAPPY YOU REALIZED what my friends and I have realized and would love to share: P3 kicking out that Elys2 and getting in the MP-110!!!!! Thank you for your time sharing with me your journey always and coming to catch up with me. Warmest Regards to your family and friends!!! ~ ian
Thanks for the informative videos, Ian. I too bought the MP110 & Mani for my P2 on your recommendation and it sounds fantastic! Got my eye on the Zu DW or Totem Rainmakers for upgrades from my trusty old B&O Penta 3s :)
Brother!!!!! WOW!!!! Congratulations!!!!! Rega P2 + MP-110 + Mani!!!!!!💪😄👍👍👍👍👍👍 Depending on your amplifier, you may choose between the Zu DWs and Totem Rainmakers!!🥰🎶🎵🎶🎶🎶🎶
The Rega Carbon cartridge (as Ian points out is really a rebadged AT-3600L) is priced at $65 USD, whereas the AT-3600L with original Audio-Technica badge or unbranded can be purchased for $12-15 USD on eBay. Huge Rega markup!. The cartridge cannot compete with the MP-110, but sounds decent and is undoubtedly the highest value cartridge in the world at the $12-15 USD price range.
Fantastic, Ian! Great showing how inexpensive you can get into the hobby and have an amazing setup that you will most likely never have to change out for many years. Loved seeing the antiskate and the proof of you setting it! I just got back from NYC - Singapore looks MUCH nicer :)
Dearest Kris, thank you for coming by and catching up with me! I am not adept with my hands as you but yet received your kind grace🙏😄!!! Glad you're doing well with your TKR🤗....and glad to see so many friends seeking strength from your story/vlog/postoperative diary! 💪💪💪💪💪💪 Great going Buddy!!!!
Hey and hope everything's well yes at nakaoka 110 is a superb combination with this s*** and just about any turntable I tried it with cheaper turntables them the Riga and found it to be such a wonderful upgrade in some cases twice as good!!!! Still waiting for that s*** turntable to arrive can't wait for the review!!!!😎✌
Brother enjoy your MP-150! Hope we get to lay our hands on the schiit sol turntable soon too!!! Delay after delay! I hope all this delay is time well spent perfecting the sol ...good luck to Mike Moffat! Warmest Regards Buddy and your family, and thank you for always catching up with me!!!despite your busy times!!! I appreciate your kindness coming to see me! ~ ian.
Hi Ian, Thank you very much for your very interesting contribution. The challenging part of our hobby is, that you really can achieve superb sonical performance without spending a considerable amount of money. And if you have been successful in choosing the right gear - it's very satisfying. I don't know if you know "ROBIN HOOD" but actually you are like this nobleman - not a king of thieves but the king of vinyl. You really help people saving their hard-earned money - it's a perfect contrast to the so called audiophile world. All the best and nice greetings from Europe.
Brother :-D !!!! YOU DID A SUUUUUUUPERB video on your P8 with Nag!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have just seen it and wrote down the referral link to your channel and video too!!! Your editing and sharp and shows your efforts and resourcefulness. VERY, VERY, VERY THOUGHTFUL. Brilliant my friend!!!!!!!!!! I am very fortunate to have a good person in you sharing his time and friendship with me. Thank you Sir. ~ ian.
Great video, so much work for the music comparison parts but so revealing. I used high quality headphones to listen. I am a vinyl lover and long time Rega user and have added improvements such as Groovtracer sub platter and other cartridges of course. Thank you.
Dear Buddy :-D thank you for coming by and saying hi to me!!! Great to see your verve and energy for vinyl, and sharing with us your upgrades!!!! The GrooveTracer subplatter is so good, it is a no-brainer for all Rega users.... superb!!! Warmest Regards and may you continue to have a wonderful vinyl journey filled with immense analogue music and warmest friends!!! ~ ian.
Great video! Only one thing. When comparing the cartridges, the volume seems clearly louder for the 110. You have to match the volume extremely carefully to do an accurate comparison A difference of even a half a dB will subjectively make the louder one seem "better". The difference in volume in your video sounds more like 2 or 3 dB! I am a professional sound engineer and am used to listening to these kinds of differences. It makes me wonder if you did that on purpose in order to exaggerate the difference. I am in no position to judge your honesty, but if you don't tend to such details, it puts it in question. I am not questioning whether the 110 is a better cartridge than the Carbon. I am just pointing out that not matching volumes, confuses your point except for those that don't know better.
Totally agree. I actually had to stop listening to the comparison halfway through because the MP110 was indeed tonally better but the clearly changing volume kept making me 'feel' like I was being sold somthing.... Even tho I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND that different cartridges give different pk-pk outputs. It really needed to be perfectly leveled so as to let the tone sell the sound....
Hi! Tested with Planar 2 and setting at 27mm with arm floating It doesn't even move the arm (there is no anti-skating force att all!). I tested also a Goldring E2 tracking at 2g and the factory preset anti-skating resulted in a good tracking, from outer to inner groves (actually, I pulled the magnet just a little). Lowering bias gave me distortion (tested through headphone). Anyway, it is a very instructive video and will help a lot of people with this respectable deck.
Dear Buddy Hans Vos!!! Thank you yet again, for coming by!!!!!!!!!! :-D really happy to have you here with me, all the way from The Netherlands. Thank you Sir!
Hi Ian, my friend in Singapore. Great work. Two weeks ago I found a new pressing of Frank Zappa New York (Grundman mastering!) for €25. Fantastic find. I am hoping for two more, The Best Band You Never Heard and Make A Jazz Noize. Frank Zappa live is amazing.
I bought the Rega Planar 2 two months ago, and on certain LPs like Diana Krall Very best of, or Pink Floyd Wish you were here. the sound stage is deep, defined, and the music leaps into the room. on others like Carol King Tapestry it sounds somewhat flat and dead. Next month I will buy the Nagaoka MP-110, and breathe fresh life into the other records.
Hi Ian, So glad to see you back with a great video. Still very happy with MP-110 on my second Technics. I find myself listening to records with that setup quite often. Very relaxed and unemphasized, likely the very best pickup in its price range. And it already has a lot of the quality foundation the MP-500 shines with. Since I have discovered Nagaoka years agi, I don't see the point of low output MC's anymore. For me, this as good as it gets. What an effort to determine the correct condition on the P1. I am so glad that I have my Technics - sooo much easier to swap cartridges. :)
Guten Tag to you Norman in Germany :-D !!! *YOU ARE SPOT ON* *"Since I have discovered Nagaoka years ago, I don't see the point of low output MC's anymore."* *Brother, I feel the same way.* Dear Buddy, enjoy your SL1200Mk3D + KAB + soldered on 78rpm motor function. I am very happy for you plus give you a big pat on your back for bringing back the motor from U.S. on your trip. I can feel how proud you are with your rig now. A labour of love. Great going Freund :-D Warmest Regards on a warm lovely Summer in Germany! ~ ian
@@klepp19 Yes, I would think so too. And to my understanding, it's indeed all determined by the phono-preamp, not necessarily the type of pickup. An MC cartridge delivers its signal the same way an MM or MI does with differences in strength and EMF sensitivity. So, in some scenarios, goign the MC route might be better. For me, both types work fine and the MP-500 is still going strong.
Great video as usual. Can you do a comparison between your sl1200 mk5 and the new sl1200gr. Nobody seems to have done this yet. I would like to see what the new enhancements Technics have made to the gr have on performance. Thank you.
Brother, thank you so much for your encouragement... the GR is an expensive deck for me to purchase and do a review on.... going beyond what I can commit in these community projects. I apologize... but I feel so happy and encouraged!!!...to continue to do my best. Thank you so much my friend!!🙏🤗💪💪💪💪 Have a lovely vinyl'ing journey Buddy!
Ian, please review the new Technics SL-1500c. I'd like to get one, but price is high and I want to make sure it's worth it compared to other alternatives. Now using a Sony PS-X600 which is a great but aging turntable. You're doing a great job, by the way. It's hard to get a valuable review of audio gear in this day and age. Thank you for your dedication.
Alex Tremblay SL-1500 received very good review from What a hifi last month they scored it 5 stars I’m interested in MK7 based on same motor and materials But no phono stage
Dearest Alex and Ivan buddies :-D Hehheh!!! The SL1500C!!! WOW! How would it compare to the P3 and MoFi StudioDeck!!! I am so keen to lay my hands on one and know too!!! Thank you for all these great chats!!!! This is so exciting! Brothers, any news, let me know of your own experiences with the SL1500C!!!
I have the P1 and the P2 here right now. They both come with the Rega Carbon cartridge. It is obvious that the P2 extracts much more from that cartridge. High frequencies of the carbon are much more extended on P2.
Heh Buddy!!! Great to see you again!!! You HAVE THE P1 *AND* the P2!?!!! WOWWWW>.... two things very nice to play with!!!!! and :-D thank you for telling me how they compare! Coz I have yet to grab hold of the P2 for any proper listening...(only casual at my retailer's shop twice)...so your sharing is very, very helpful to me! Thank YOU Brother!!!!!! ~ ian.
Thank you my friend, I could hear the difference even through the little speakers in my I phone. Bet it would be even better through some tannoy’s ha. Maybe some day.
Brother Brian :-D, thank you for coming by to see me again!... your VPI Classic doing well i believe!!!! Paradigm and more!!!!!! HAVE FUN MY FRIEND!! ... Parasound JC2, 3, A23.......
It is by far really the best new turntable at this price point going up to $500, easily beating even the Debut Carbon DC and PS-HX500👋🤗congratulations and have fun Buddy!!!!
Another great video Ian. I note that on another of your videos you said that to fit the MP-110 on your Rega Planar 3 it required the arm to be raise 6 to 8mm to get the correct VTA. But on this P1 no spacers required? Truly awful anti-skate set up on this P1 though. The holes in the plinth for the tonearm are just screws into wood, repeatedly removing and refitting will destroy the grip and render the holes useless.
True my friend!!! The P3 needed 6 to 8mm to bring it to 91.6°...but the P1 get away with not having any spacers and still get close at 90.6°😄👌!!! See you my friend!!!!! Great to have you again just 2 days post-release of my effort. Thank you for your time!
Whoa!! I’ve destroyed this tonearm just by watching! lol 😆..... you really have great patience brother Ian, hope you and the family are having wonderful weather oh! I see you are having nice weather hello to Moko 🐶....I’ve finally been able to ride in fact when I’m through here I’m out again🚲....wow the differences are amazingly in your face! Mp110 really stands out....the pick of the guitar 😱thank you as always for this impeccable review my friend- Lis
Hehheh!!!! Sister Lis am i glad to see you riding out into the great open again!!! SUCH GREENS!!!! AFTER THE RAIN!!!!!! Warmest Regards Sister :-D ~ ian.
Hi Ian, thanks for all your advice. I have now added the Schitt Mani to the system and it is sounding really good. Heaps more depth to the sound stage/imaging. Just wanted to check the gain settings you found worked best on the phono pre-amp. All the best!, Leo
Hehheh, Brother :-D thanks for recommending me the Yuko Mabuchi Trio!!!!!!! hope you are enjoying your Sat-Sunday now :-D warmest regards buddy!!! have FUN! see you soon. ~ ian
HiViNyws channel Have a nice one too. My daughter will return from Egypt in the evening. The temperatures over there were lower than in Germany. No need to mourn. -----Yes the Yoko record contains fine music. My latest buy was: The Emerald Forest-OMPS, a John Boorman film. Music composed by Junior Homrich. I ordered a cd, lp's are not nearly affordable. A very natural sounding recording mostly with percussion.
Perfect timing! I've been watching your reviews for some time now and have bought a Rega P1 (Record Store Day Edition) and recently a Schiit Mani on your recommendations. I'll perhaps upgrade to the Nagaoka MP-110, or MP-150, soon. I'm currently working on detatching the 24v AC motor from the Rega's plinth in an attempt to completely remove any motor vibrations from the noise floor and will let you know how it works out and whether it's a worthwhile upgrade. I'd really like to know the artists, albums and tracks that you use in your reviews, please. Maybe that's a subject for another video. Looking forward to more HiViNyws content. Thank you, Ian. All the best, (another) Ian.
Dear Buddy Ian :-D.... thank you for watching my vids and gaining information from my heartfelt efforts. I just hope and wish for everybody to get superb, and the best sound, for the money. Superb sound first and foremost ;-D !!! Congratulations for scoring a great RSD P1 !!!!! That is even better than the standard P1 i remember correctly!!! Detaching the 24V motor and siting it somewhere else is a great DIY method that is sure to work (but then again, this motor is already pretty quiet (must better than its price competitors and more, from my experience, Roy Gandy has chosen his supplier well). Brother, the titles of the tracks and the vinyl albums they are from, are found at the top left hand section of the screen at the start of each of each sound parameter introduction i.e. bass, treble, vocals, guitar, jazz, orchestra :-D . Thank you for your extremely comments and support!!! Love your update and this gives me energy :-D !!! Warmest Regards Buddy!!!and again, CONGRATULATIONS for getting everything right!!! ~ ian.
Ooooohh...that's a huge investment!!! I wish you happy times ahead!!! Have fun caressing and ogling too at your new vinyl front end🙏😄✌🎶🎵🎶🎶🎶!!!!! Best Regards my friend!
do not forget to observe the polarity of the magnet, otherwise antiskating will work in the other direction). And Yes, it needs to be pasted because when you turn the tonearm, it will jump out.
Thank you very much Buddy!!!🙏☺️ I will continue to do my very best. It means a lot to me to hear your kindness and support. May you have a wonderful vinyl'ing journey ahead😀💪🎶🎵🎶🎶🎶✌
@Maximo Omari It took me 15 seconds to hack your spam with this comment.
I truly enjoy your videos Ian . I’ve learned so much from you. Many thanks
Tony
Did you experience any issues with combining the nagaoka and glass platter"?
Your enthusiasm and friendliness are very contagious, and I keep smiling whilst watching :-) 👍
Looking forward to more content, your cartridge shootouts are the best!
:-D
I am glad i have been of help!
Great video. The magnet and hole should be threaded so you can simply screw it in or out to adjust the anti-skating force.
Brother, it is a great idea!!! Rega should read this!!! :-D
I love my MP-110. Bought it based on your recommendation and have no need to look further for my needs.
Warmest Regards and may you have a lovely week ahead and more,

Best vinyl channel in youtube
I'm waiting for my MP110 and today i did the mod in the magnet.
Starting with an AT LP120 with a Ortofon Red, next to a Rega P2 with the Rega Carbon and now the P2 with the AT-95ex
Next week I will mount the Nagaoka
Thank goodness you magnet can be freed!!! :-D

Hi Ian, once again, you have taught that excellent analogue sound does not mean spending tonnes of $$$!!! Thank you bro!
HiViNyws channel
Yeah, i am definitely enjoying the Mani+MP combo since you recommended!!
This happened to me a few years ago watching this channel and ended up with the rega p1 and the Mani. Now I'm thinking of the upgrade 🤣

Excellent summary video Ian and I hope this one really gets increased view counts as it tells the story on how good this package is. I loved the bonus footage at the end.
Dearest Brother Paul,
Thank you very much for coming by as well.

I decided to put the same pickup head on my Planar 1. tell me, friend, did you set the value of the magnet to 27 mm?
hey buddy!! have you moved the magnet by 27 mm??please share your experience

Catch up with you soon~
Rob/Boston
Dearest Big Brother Rob :-D,
Thank you once again for coming by to see me, to help me despite your busy Monday traffic...i am very touched!!

Yay!!!! You and your girlfriend have done it!!!!!!
Fistpunch into the air!!!!! :-D
I’d never been connected to music like that before (and I’m in my 40’s) lol
From the uninitiated who didn’t care to me now desperate to have some decent kit.

YUMMY.
This worked so well for me. Bless you and your genius
May i ask? :-D :
- where would you add the small disc magnet and its placement with regards to the existing magnet cylinder :-D ?
They now provide the P1 Flex Edition with antiskating here in Germany!
Enjoy your channel very much! Thanks for the great work!
WOW I didn't know THAT!!!! P1 Flex Edition!!!!!!
I MUST TAKE THIS INFORMATION DOWN!!! Brother, can i ask more?
--> is this a P1 retrofitted with a RB330 tonearm?
:-D
I am so curious!!!
Warmest Regards, and Guten Tag :-D

Here is a shop in Germany that sells it for 449€, the tonearm 110 is modified especially for the German market because customers asked for it! They might have seen your video 😉!
Btw I ordered the Schiit Mani for my Rega P3 due to your recommendation and I am verrrrry happy with it although Schiit was not available in Germany! I got it from Holland!

Very cool video for you to do for those who need help with their P1 upgrade.
As much as I love the audio portion of the video I think I like seeing your beautiful city even more. :) incredible views, just gorgeous.

Hehheh...yes...swapping carts with ease and with adjustable precision anti-skate plus high quality tonearm height adjustment will also lead us to... our Technics😁😁😁
🌈may you have a wonderful time in CA Buddy!!!!
I appreciate your kindness... thank you.
Warmest Regards and have a good smoothsailing week ahead my friend!,

Ian the service you provide is inestimable, love to Moko and your beautiful family :)
Dearest Andrew :-D FROM THE PACIFICA!!! :-D Thank you so much for your love and kind words to my family and i...thank you so much Brother.....
I wish for you and your family a lovely Sunday too and more! Have some vinyl hours too!:-D . hi five!!!

Thanks to this video I also went out and bought an MP110 for my kid's turntable. I was login to give her an Ortofon 2M Red, but this clearly beats it.

Rega P2

And now Nagaoka MP-110
Thanks again friend Ian for this video!
Hi Buddy Salvador :-D!!Hehheh!!! Thank you for coming by and saying out loud your vinyl system!!!!!!!!!
Gives us all, the vinyl energy!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow! With the mp110 it is if the music comes to life! I know what my next upgrade will be!
Ronald
HOW TO REMOVE THE MAGNET
I guess, Ian was just lucky. I tried removing it same way he did, but it wouldn't come out and after some googling I learned, that the magnet is actually glued in and not supposed to come out that easily. So what I needed to do was:
a) get some pliers which allow a grip as firm as possible on the magnet, so the inside better be rippled and the tips very small
b) try turning the magnet in a wiggling motion and pull at the same time.
@@HiViNywschannel The good thing in my case is, I don't need any Blu Tack since the bore is so tight ^^
Did you have to adjust the magnet by testing at different lengths? Or was setting it to 27 mm as in the video the way to go?
@@Cage_is_in_a_cage I don't have a test record yet so I went with 27mm. I had one record where the needle was stuck in one groove about 2/3 the way and after setting the magnet to 27mm I could play the record without any issues. So definitely an improvement. I'm curious though what the test record will tell me.
Dear Simon, thank you for answering Cage Tanaka's query! Yes, 27mm away from the tip of the edge tunnel :-D is nice!!!
Hope Brother Cage finds his way easily too.
Hi Ian, thanks for your sharing on all turntables and cartridges test in your youtube chanel.
Dear Ian
Thanks to your dedication and hard work, you have shown that you do not have to spend ridiculous sums of money to enjoy music.

DP57M spinning over the weekend my friend in Penang :-D !?!! Brother Sari, thank you for coming by to chat me up again! Thank YOU :-D !!!
They do it to sell you a P3
Brother enjoy your Mani, MP110 and MP150!!! Hehheh...Rega has probably deemed it to be a Plug-N-Play turntable, for first time vinyl adopters, or vinyl adopters who won't want to spend time dabbling in changing cartridges and setting up turntables, and hence assigned the Rega Carbon (AT3600L) cart to it and foregone with the adjustability coz the users won't need it. Secondarily to keep cost down further more. Hahaha...they can't please everybody.
Continue your super fun with your super vinyl rig! Best Regards my friend!

Brother :-D yay now i know you are staying in Australia ;-D!!! Great to see you catching up here too.... very kind of you my friend!!!!! Thank YOU.
Woahhhhh thank you Buddy for all that sharing and information, I love it!!!🙏😄👍
I remember the Cotter transformer, I had one back when I had a Supex 900.
"recently picking up some more records?"
THAT is the icing on the cake!!!!!!!
Oh my goodness...you are making my Sunday evening very joyful with your energetic message!!!
Brother, updates, anytime!!
Thank you for coming by and talking to me again!!
Warmest Regards,

Moko at my thigh as i sit on a low floor cushion-chair (Muji Japanese ones) :-D
Gosh Kevin Gray, Masters, Gatefold. OKAY!!!!!!! Here i come!!
I check that Janos Starker box of the six Bach solo cello suites as you say... yes on the very top shelf!! You are sharp :-D
Warmest Regards to you and your family on this peaceful weekend! Have fun Buddy!! THank you for the tip-offs!!

Very nice turntables! Another fantastic video, Ian! I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Hi Brother, thank you for coming by to see me👋😄🤜🤛😄✌
Hehheh! Enjoy our analogue journey and friends 😍😍😍🌈see you my friend!
@@HiViNywschannel absolutely, my brother!🎙🎙📢

My friend I invested in Goldring 1022 and adjusted stylus teaching force with a needle weigher.
Got the g1022 for 88 dollars.
Great Cartridge!

@@HiViNywschannel I just did the magnet mod tonight on my RB220 tonearm to exactly 27mm and it stopped the skipping on inner tracks 🤗Thanks again!!
Great going Buddy!!!!

Hi Ian,
Thank you very much for your very interesting contribution.

The GrooveTracer subplatter is so good, it is a no-brainer for all Rega users.... superb!!!

@@HiViNywschannel If you are ever in Tasmania you are most welcome to come to our place to listen to music. The setting is not bad. x
Could this be from the cartridges MV sensitivity? Not sure that’s correct terminology. Rather than the sound being physically turned up?
@@artvandelay5782 absolutely. But it has to be compensated for downstream or the comparison is meaningless.
Do you have reviews on the nagaoka mp-300?
Awesome review!!! For a long time I was wondering how to adjust the anti-skate on my P1.
Thank you Buddy for coming by to say hi to me too!!! I'm very glad I have been of help😅👌👌👌...ENJOY YOUR SUPER P1.🤩👍👍👍👍
The sound quality is a huge step up, but darn it looks like a terrifying process...
Great and interesting topic, buddy Ian with you DIY technical video .. I LIKE IT .... and greetings from the dutch lowlands nl eu.....
Dear Buddy Hans Vos!!! Thank you yet again, for coming by!!!!!!!!!!
:-D really happy to have you here with me, all the way from The Netherlands.

I don't consider myself deaf, but I don't hear much sound quality difference, but I truly enjoy your videos and I appreciate your effort, ciao!
Zappaman zapping through the airwaves in your home.... I know you!!!!😄😁😄🙏...
Yes Buddy!!!🙏😄👍👍👍👍you are onto a good way!!!! And coming is the MP-110, congratulations 💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪Buddy!!!!!
I miss this guy.
*YOU ARE SPOT ON*
*"Since I have discovered Nagaoka years ago, I don't see the point of low output MC's anymore."*
*Brother, I feel the same way.*
Dear Buddy, enjoy your SL1200Mk3D + KAB + soldered on 78rpm motor function. I am very happy for you plus give you a big pat on your back for bringing back the motor from U.S. on your trip.
I can feel how proud you are with your rig now. A labour of love.
Great going Freund :-D
Warmest Regards on a warm lovely Summer in Germany!

But don't MC cartridges have access to a full balance signal when used with a balanced phono pre like the Project SB3?
Thank you so much my friend!!🙏🤗💪💪💪💪
Have a lovely vinyl'ing journey Buddy!
