Early/Mid July 2023 It has rained all day yesterday and it is now still sort of drizzling, so there should be enough water in the river. With Peter McGroary, Ross Tones and Dietrich Bohnhorst
Vielen Dank, Gerhard. Die Fluesse sind wirklich klasse und meistens auch naturbelassen, nur in diesem Jahr sind noch kaum Lachse da, hoffentlich aendert sich das mit dem naechsten Regen. Vielle Gruesse ins Frankenland und alles Gute.
Hello Dietrich,, well, first fishing was slow but another great fishing session later and a few beauties landed too.Great trip, awesome video, thanks and greetings to you all from Down Under,, Tony.
Thank you, Tony, thank you. The salmon fishing is really slow this far, hopefully that'll change with the next dose of rain. Hope all is well and greetings to Down Under.
Plenty of brown trout nice to see. Caught my first keeper last week brown trout. Fry in lots of butter it was very tasty. Salmon fishing down here is slow also so I hear.
Yes, Mr. Martin the salmon fishing seems to be very slow everywhere. Hopefully it will pick up with the next dose of rain. All the best and tight lines.
It's not that bad, Henry. And the thing fishes and casts much better than you'd think. Greetings and all the best and thank you for watching our little movie.
Peter the angler was a real gentleman of the water, what a first class bloke. I would love to fish there, how wonderful. All the best from the U.K. I have to say though I often wonder if anglers from the U.K. may not be welcomed in Ireland. History haunts the present.
I am from UK and spent a week on the Blackwater in May - everyone was very charming and welcoming, and the river is beautiful. Highly recommended. Don't be a victim of history, live in the present and get over there. It's worth the travel.
People up here are usually very gregarious and friendly and welcoming, David. Peter surely is a real angler and gentleman and I'm looking forward to fishing with him again. Take care and all the best.
@@DietrichBohnhorst That is a great human quality, and we should never forget circumstances and treat people accordingly. My old maths teacher came home from Germany with a bride, probably not what he expected when he went there in less happy times. She was a lovely lady. All the best. David
Another great episode , shows that for eating half pound browns are what you want, in Scotland they role them in oatmeal and pan fry them, yummy. All the best to our Irish brother and sister anglers.
Hi Dietrich, Nice trout session! Do you make your own wood chips for smoking? I use a reciprocating saw on a chopped off branch of Alder tree here in Ireland and collect the saw dust on a plastic sheet. Alder smoke has a subtle taste. When I lived in Spain, I did this method on apple prunings. But since moving to Ireland, my 70 different apple trees I planted are still too young for amputation. Therefore I looked for alternatives. I found that Alder works quite well and they are all over the place. But I still prefer apple wood.
That is very interesting, sir. Never made my own wood chips or saw dust for smoking. Just bought it in the shops or on the net. All the best and greetings from Donegal.
Thank you, Sir. Am glad that you like our little movies and Mr. Medlyn will visit me today for a weekend of fishing, so, there'll be a new episode coming soon. All the best and greetings to the Netherlands.
Hopefully, Robert. It is the middle of July and the grilse runs should be really in full swing by now. Mabe with the next flood. Thank you for watching and all the best.
Thank you, Sir. And thank you for watching. It's the Bibio we are talking about, it is also sometimes called The Hawthorn Fly and is supposed to imitate the Bibio Marci and represents everything and nothing at the same time, therefore it is such a good fly, I think. Cheers and all the best.
Good to see the smoker out again. Do you fillet the trout or just remove head and tail and then smoke whole ? It looked like you were crunching through bones in your smoked trout sandwich.
They are not filleted and the middle bones were removed; Ross just put the whole thing quickly onto his baguette, since it was still very hot. Thank you for watching and all the best.
That smoker is a great job, what do you use for fuel, small sticks? Are rivers are full and fast with water at the moment from having none for 2 months
That wee smoker is really good, you can bring it along to the lake or river and it takes only 20 minutes to produce some nice fish. The fuel is methylated spirit. There was a good dose of rain here too, so, maybe there's some salmon fishing on the agenda soon. All the best and tight lines.
Hello Dietrich thank you for another video, I have been binge watching them. I am in Donegal and know a lake that no one fishes but me. It has some big trout, much bigger average than average mountain lake. Maybe only 30 minutes of walking. I would like to tell you about it but I won't post the location publicly!. I don't know a way to contact you privately but if there is a way I will tell you.

Well done Dietrich, the river looked perfect…
Thank you, Stiofain. It looked perfect alright, and I heard there were two or three caught that day. For this time of year that's very poor.
Just wait until I get to Donegal!!
The whole world is waiting to see you in Donegal, and so am I. Really looking forward to our weekend, Dave.

Hold off that rain for 1 more week...
Then I'll be back!
We'll be getting a dose this weekend, Cuan. So, there just have to be some fishes in the rivers next week. See you then and take care, my friend.

Another great adventure in fly fishing! Been watching for some time and still have not figured out what the heck is a Vieo?
it's a bibio , a fly that does all fish in all conditions , the worm is a"garden olive" among anglers
