- In Episode 4 of my Ultimate Whales Series, I head to San Ignacio Lagoon in Baja California, Mexico.
In this series, I'll travel from LA to Hawaii, to Baja California, central California, and the Sea of Cortez in search of the oceans largest creatures. While whales are the focus, my ultimate goal is find whales and sharks coexisting. A tall order but one that is likely given the wonders of sea.
To plan a visit to San Ignacio Lagoon, please visit Baja Expeditions' website.

When I was a boy back in the 80s, my family sailed regularly around New England, and in 1984, we had an encounter with two humpback whales--a mother and her calf. The amazing part of that experience was that we didn't approach the whales in the slightest (there are strict laws in Massachusetts about that); the mother actually brought her calf over to see us. They graced us with their company for about an hour, swimming around and underneath the boat. I'll never forget staring into the eye of that mother whale while she was spyhopping us. It's a very humbling experience.
How exciting to have such a memory!
I love it when gentle giants get curious❤.
Oh my gosh what an absolutely amazing thing to experience, these beautiful creatures allowing humans to touch them wow just wow, tfs x Julie 🇬🇧
Thanks for bringing me to tears, yet again, Carlos. This is an incredible trip keepsake, second only to the memories. Beautiful work.
This was a joy to watch-thank you! What an awe-inspiring experience to have direct contact with these beautiful beings.
Thank you! It's such an incredible place!
This is such a lovely video❤❤❤🐋
Beautiful animals and so amazingly gentle! 💙💙💙
Thank you for sharing! ❤❤❤
Your videos are ever more inspiring
Wow, thank you
So incredible! It’s emotional to see this and I am putting this on my list of must do’s!! ❤
I absolutely love your videos thank you!
Thank you for sharing these experiences with us, Carlos! Your videos are so relaxing and your voice is so soothing, and both of these expressions of yours helps us get through our day in one of the most stressful environments in earth; trying to stay ahead of the curve by not becoming over-saturated with current events and 'certain people' always sparking controversy whenever they are within a hundred feet of a news camera. 🙄 Thanks for helping us stay sane!
awh this just made me so happy to see! I love Whales and it was so sickening to watch how many were being slaughtered. They are beautiful, majestic animals and i think they all should be protected. Great filming.
That was amazing touching the Whales.
Thanks so much for taking this on your whale Expedition. I thought it was fantastic👏! I was trying to figure out how the painting can be 7000 years old LOL💯🌊🐋
The night sky alone made the trip worthwhile.
I also noticed that, however, breif it was. Stunning 😮
Awesome footage again, puts me such a calm state, thank you ✌️
Great vid Carlos! That week in San Ignacio was absolutely unreal. Can't wait to get back. (Mike B.)
You’re my biggest inspiration. Seriously 😃
Soooo beautiful! 🐳🌴
Whales are totally amazing... a thing of beauty... and whaling and whalers are criminals. Nothing will ever erase this cruel crusade against wild life. Sail far to the horizon, my great sea friend!
Mahalo from Hawaii
Awesome! This is my dream!
I would love to see a whale before I die. Beautiful animal and just wonderful. Xxxx❤
I’ve just discovered your channel and I’m completely obsessed!! So gorgeous and mesmerizing! Can’t wait to also share with my students! (Middle school science)
Many thanks! It's an honor to hear this from a teacher.
You are this generation's Marty Stouffer.
Magnifique
the orca's fin was huge holy
A resident pod of orcas came by our little boat off Vancouver Island, Canada (including 2 babies). They swam by both sides of the boat. The entire group of people went silent. It was surreal & a little scary. The male had a much larger dorsal fin & kept his distance but parallel to the pod.
Always beyond words when I watch your videos ❤
However, when you used the word “forgiveness” as if it were from the Whales I weeped 😢
😂😂😂😂😂you have made my day thanks
they seem like huge puppies, curios and enjoying some nose rubs
👍👍👍
❤❤❤
please upload in 4k and 1440p 🙏
🎶🎵 I kissed a whale and I liked it🎵🎶
whale scritches 🥹
I wonder, has anyone ever hummed in the water around whales? Do they respond back?
I hope to see that first hand some day but not with a bunch of screamers. The screaming ruins the experience.
I love these majestic creatures and my all time favorites is the giant Manta ray and their relatives they really are so wonderful to experience and watch in their " ballet " like dances in the water our oceans and seas are fu f wnders
