Very informative video. Thanks. I have a suggestion, if you put the lid to the tumbler in a plastic sandwich bag and tuck all the excess under the lid, it makes a great seal for the top when painting.
I love your videos it comes with some imperfections but it's unique and not fake like some videos I've seen some that tries so hard deleted some oops. Thanks for the information bro!👍
Great video! I've fallen in love with the Ozark Trail tumblers. The first one I bought, i'm leaving as is but I just bought 2 more and will be painting them.
would it work the same if you didn't want the matte finish and just wanted a gloss finish? would just like an input because I am thinking that I will make these for my bridal party(:
Good video,,,,, years ago i took my ss squirrel hunting thermos painted it OD and took a wolf print rubber stamp and put black paw prints on that,,,,made coffee taste better 😃
I doubt it lasted very long. Stainless doesn’t hold paint well and the rattle can paints chip very easily. If you want a lasting finish then powder coat it.
We sell stencils that are used primarily for Cerakote, but would work fine for rattle can. All you'd need to do is let the first coat dry completely, apply the stencil, paint the over coat, dry, then peel the stencil off before clear coat.
A lot of people think stainless steel never rusts but in fact it’s just rust resistant due to the chromium in it that forms a oxide layer on the surface to protect it. If scratched it will quickly fill in the gap with a new oxide layer to protect it but if you scratch it with normal steel exposing it to iron it will rust much faster. Steel wool, harsh chemicals such as chlorides and other things are not safe for it. Wiping it with a soap and water is best
You have to be careful with what you use on stainless as it can rust if exposed to certain things. Stainless does rust eventually it just takes much longer then other steels. Steel wool is not good for it as he used. I’m not sure if lighter fluid is okay but harsh chemicals are not good for it. Soap and water is best
After applying the coats of paint and before applying the final top coat, could you spray paint glitter to make it more "girly"? I'm thinking you can, since you are applying the top coats, but I'm not sure & would like your input. Great video & thank you for sharing.
Miranda Scott Use a high gloss paint and let it dry for 24hrs. Lightly sand with 1200 grit sand paper and wipe it clean with alcohol. Than use a 2k clear coat and let it dry for 24hrs. Than enjoy...
The ozarktrail actually performs better in a few trials I've seen online. Although most believe they're made by the same company. All their measurements are identical, even the degree of the angle where it gets smaller for the cup holder.
I painted several cups with the paint and top coat, but did not use the oven. Now my bottoms of the cups are scratched up. The sides are mostly fine. I saw another video that a women sells cups and she uses epoxy clear coat as a final coat. Does the oven treatment 'replace' the epoxy?
Bought my wife a Yeti for work and it disappeared very quickly. Bought her a new one and personalized it with my dremel. Been 2 years and she still has it. : ) also engraved my cell number on the bottom of it.
Might want to consider leaving a larger unpainted lip if you are not using a food safe clear top coat. Especially if you are selling them or giving them to others as gifts. Lets face the facts if one person gets sick from the paint it could be very costly.
I just want to add names to the already colored Ozark trail tumblers. I've applied the names with an oil-based paint. Do you recommend that I bake the Tumblers to ensure the names don't come off? If so do I need to do it in stages like bake them three times like you did on here? I just want to make sure that all of my detailed work does not wash off after the first use. Also do you recommend that I apply a finishing coat of some sort? Any input would be very appreciated. As these will be Christmas gifts for my employees and need to be done ASAP.
Most important question about your process, I took notes as I watched and I am confused as to how many actual coats of paint do you use? Do you paint with color then matt and oven bake a total of 3 times?? Thank you!
On the cooking part, does it need to be 100%\24 hours dry? I did a first coat, dried 24 hours, cooked for 45 min at 200. My second coat is a different color, just an over-spray in spots, not a total covering. Do I have to let that dry all the way before putting it in the oven, or will about an hour suffice? I'm putting another clear coat on after this one.
Um, you need to scratch the surface of the stainless for anything to stick. You also need a metal etching primer as a base coat. How long is this paint lasting for you?
+Mid-America Prep You painted and baked the first time, then you scuffed with steel wool. What did you clean with or how did you clean the tumbler after scuffing?
I am planning on getting a 64 oz rambler, from YETI, i'm getting a great deal, and if I wanted to do this, which I kind of do, my biggest fear is it exploding in the oven, is that something that I need to worry about at all?
+Cassidy Wallace Oven might have been too hot? I let them cool down in the oven completely. Klean Strip paint stripper works well to remove it. Try again if you have time!
+ScienceFoundation You can buy powder coated tumblers directly from yeti and companies alike. Baking it assures adhesion. You don't have to bake it if you're not comfortable.
We bake them in our shop at 200 for 2 hours, and have never had any issues. We've sold somewhere in the neighborhood of 100 of these things, and have never had a reported issue. We also have a cabinet full of them, and use them daily.
Every Stainless Tumbler you buy will tell you not to microwave. NEVER PUT ANY METAL INTO A MICROWAVE! That has nothing to do with the heat. The dishwasher statement is because some of the more abrasive detergents can pit the metal over time. The guys that powder coat these put them in the oven for extended periods of time. 200 deg or less and it should be fine.
+Mid-America Prep awesome job man is not if yeti sales those cups already colored is about to get our mind and ppls ass to get to work and find cheap ways to get good stuff at a cheap price thank u for sharing ur video mid-america prep!! i will work soon on my ozark cup the way u r doing it on your video brother!
+bassist1217 yes but still he is not talking about go to the store and buy it cheap he is talking about get ur ass up the chair and be creative and crafty!! dummie
The ozarktrails small cup will keep coffee hot enough to drink for about 4 hours. I wonder how long yeti does. I would like to tell you the probable reason you have so many negative thumbs down is the video is so hard to watch. At 8 mins in you're just now taping the top! No one wants to set and watch that much. You made a 6 min video into 20+ mins. Unfortunately, that gets thumbs down. 😏😖
Dude don't be a A$$ about it. You said something about putting them in the dishwasher. We were just making a statement to let those who don't know that your not supposed to put in dishwasher. You have a great video very informative but why the attitude?? We were just stating what's on the instructions.
Dude, if you like, look at the date, it’s almost like this video was made WELL before yeti, rtic, or OT offered any colored tumblers. Also, they don’t offer every color an individual may want one to be. Shocking
Could you do an update video on the durability after continued use? I would love to see how the paint job holds up.
Very informative video. Thanks. I have a suggestion, if you put the lid to the tumbler in a plastic sandwich bag and tuck all the excess under the lid, it makes a great seal for the top when painting.
I'm also very interested to know how it's held up. Great video thanks for sharing.
That's 20 mins of my life I'll never get back
Congratulations. Thanks for the minutes watched. I made $0.008 from your complaint.
Have you done any where you've used a vinyl decal in the same way as the tape than just remove decal to leave behind a stainless steel logo?
would it work the same if you didn't want the matte finish and just wanted a gloss finish? would just like an input because I am thinking that I will make these for my bridal party(:
Good video,,,,, years ago i took my ss squirrel hunting thermos painted it OD and took a wolf print rubber stamp

Very helpful! Thank You!
Hi, Im wanting to paint my stainless steel appliance handles a matte gold, do you think this would work on that?? My husband is having a fit :-)
Did you get around to planting it?
Finally a paint for stainless, how well does it hold up over time?
I doubt it lasted very long. Stainless doesn’t hold paint well and the rattle can paints chip very easily. If you want a lasting finish then powder coat it.
@@daspicsman I forgot all about this. Yes powder coating might be the way to go.
love the video especially your comments thank you for sharing this with us. must try and see if some girly vinyl would stick.

Branson Cerakote
Can you bake after you remove the stencil and spray you final clear coat?
Does it have to go in oven? Drying isn't enough? Does it smell like spray paint?
A lot of people think stainless steel never rusts but in fact it’s just rust resistant due to the chromium in it that forms a oxide layer on the surface to protect it. So do you do one or two coats before it goes in the oven the first time? I'm kinda confused.
Just an FYI removing residue left from stickers and labels is best done with Zippo lighter fluid!

I bet it would work out well!
How has it held up over time with normal abuse? great video and thanks
Curious about the same question
+james russell update video coming soon. Thanks
Mid-America Prep how can I make them have a glossy finish?
Miranda Scott Use a high gloss paint and let it dry for 24hrs. Lightly sand with 1200 grit sand paper and wipe it clean with alcohol. Than use a 2k clear coat and let it dry for 24hrs. Than enjoy...
watching this tutorial hoping to paint my stainless steel mini fridge for my dorm, and i happen to be an incoming freshman at KU! small world
Thanks for the vid mate! What does making it ensure? Does it require a certain kind of paint? What would you do if your stainless Steele was polished?
I heard that apex paint for stainless steel works But any type does to so long as you prepare the surface right
The ozarktrail actually performs better in a few trials I've seen online. Although most believe they're made by the same company. All their measurements are identical, even the degree of the angle where it gets smaller for the cup holder.
Can i paint it and let it dry but not bake it? We dont have ovens here in 3rd world country.
I painted several cups with the paint and top coat, but did not use the oven. Now my bottoms of the cups are scratched up. The sides are mostly fine. I saw another video that a women sells cups and she uses epoxy clear coat as a final coat. Does the oven treatment 'replace' the epoxy?
Putting the tumblers in the oven on a low temperature bakes on the paint. Therefore hardening the coating.
Hola, me gustaría saber si esa pintura resiste altas temperaturas como al tener mi vaso al lado de la parrilla
Great video. How is the durability of the paint? Does it chip or crack with use?
+Steve Brown I have not had an issue with them. Even dropped one and the paint tuck.
Bought my wife a Yeti for work and it disappeared very quickly. Bought her a new one and personalized it with my dremel. Been 2 years and she still has it. : ) also engraved my cell number on the bottom of it.

wd-40 cleans the stickers off nicely
Very well
great work.
How many times to do put it in the oven just once or after ever coat of paint? I am trying it with a decal sticker I'll let ya know how it works
How it works?

How did you pick up wet Tumbler to put in oven without smudging wet paint?
Magic.
Hello would you be able to share the spray paint color used for the blue cup? Thanks!
Could you add a decal BEFORE applying the matte clear coat?
Many have asked and I think that it would work out fine. I have several die cut vinyls I plan to test out soon.

if you wrap the lid in tape, then insert it into the cup, it will keep paint out of he inside.
Um, you need to scratch the surface of the stainless for anything to stick. You also need a metal etching primer as a base coat. How long is this paint lasting for you?
Wrong and wrong.
Will 30 minutes in the oven 200° did it make any smells? Is stainless steel oven safe and will the paint adhere in the oven???
It’s going to smell some but not horrible. Yes, it is safe to put stainless in the oven. Many parts within an oven are stainless.
can you vinyl over those when they are done?
Yes! You can also apply vinyl and then clear coat them. If I do vinyl and then clear coat, I do not bake it.
if I use clear matte coat....will it make the vinyl look weird? Thank you for your response!! =)
It shouldn’t! Just be careful not to spray it heavily. It will dry cloudy. Light easy coats.
Thank you!
+Mid-America Prep You painted and baked the first time, then you scuffed with steel wool. What did you clean with or how did you clean the tumbler after scuffing?
moiziz Paper towel and rubbing alcohol.
Is it safe to use spray paints on cups and water bottles? I know they are mostly used for crafts and furniture.
Maxie A yes
Mine is a matte finish can you make it gloss?
You could get gloss clear spray
is that spray paint?
I am planning on getting a 64 oz rambler, from YETI, i'm getting a great deal, and if I wanted to do this, which I kind of do, my biggest fear is it exploding in the oven, is that something that I need to worry about at all?
+Eric Plautz I believe keeping the oven around 175 will prevent that. I have done a dozen or so of these and they all turn out well. Good luck!
Found the Ozark 30 oz in local wally world that had been factory powder coated black.
Cool! Haven't seen them yet. Price?
Still 9.74
can you bake them in a dutch oven outside so your not putting dangerious chemicals into the home?
+Jennifer Cody probably could but might be hard to regulate temperature being close to direct heat
Hit a yard sale, or thrift store and find an old toaster oven.
Hallo, is there any info about durability of color on stailess steel? Thanx
It sticks and stays. About all there is.
@@MidAmericaPrep Thank you sir.
Is it necessary to put tape on top ? Could I just paint it all ?
+Viktor Salas as you please
I baked mine and it got all kinds of bubbly so I freaked out and pulled it out of the oven.. any suggestions where I went wrong??
+Cassidy Wallace Oven might have been too hot? I let them cool down in the oven completely. Klean Strip paint stripper works well to remove it. Try again if you have time!
does this glass or paint come off?
If you apply paint stripper it will come off. Otherwise no.
Why didn’t you sand it before?
Doesn’t require sanding.
Rock Chalk!
Seeing as how the Ozark Trail tumbler says do not microwave and handwash only I'm not entirely comfortable putting mine in the oven.
Yeah but a car part or whatever isn't vacuum sealed and it's almost undoubtedly some sort of adhesive that's sealing it.
+ScienceFoundation You can buy powder coated tumblers directly from yeti and companies alike. Baking it assures adhesion. You don't have to bake it if you're not comfortable.

Was looking for reviews... Why would you take the time to paint a cup? You can buy them powdered coated from Yeti...
Because I don't have $40 for a cup. But do have $13. $10 for the cup, $3 for paint. Yetis are subpar compared to these.
And I'm not looking for a name to tote around

What's the purpose of baking in the paint
I'm pretty sure the baking session is so the paint stays on there permanently because if you don't bake it you can scrape it off with your fingernail
Aaron Lozano baking the cup after the fact keeps you from getting the tiny little dots all over the cups from air drying.
Well I've also heard of people baking it to make the paint more permanent
it does that as well.
didn't specify type or grade of steel wool like 000
Whatever you feel. Preferably 0000
I forgot to sand it down now what do I do
Throw it in the trash and buy new. Or finish it. :)
I hit my labels with a heat gun. comes right off.
Do you think this would work on painting a stainless steel grill?
+Victor Roque would need more info on where this grill is?
Outside
Now that funny.
The ozarktrails small cup will keep coffee hot enough to drink for about 4 hours. I wonder how long yeti does.

Must be new here. If so stick around and you'll learn why. I'd say I'm not an ass but I would be lying. About like hillary.
and is this toxic
I wouldn't suggest you eat it..but you'll be ok
Buy a red tumbler dude. All the labor and paint cost you can buy a red tumbler at Marshalls far cheaper.
